re: Off-Topic
Anyone have any suggestions on where two 30 year olds should stay in Dallas? We're looking for an area that's safe, clean and can be decently accessible across the area by car.
Also if you have your "local's best" food choices, that would be preferred. I want the real ****.Last edited by TheMatrix31; 06-15-2018, 12:57 AM.Comment

I will have to think about the food choices. Most of my favorite places are off the beaten path and out of the city. Are you visiting for a certain event and sticking to Dallas?
One food place that i like to go to in Dallas is Twisted Root. It's a Burger Company, the burgers are 1/2 pound and they are very good. They as also make good specialty hot dogs. The atmosphere is pretty nice and lively. Also, i dont like Root Beer floats, but they have a famous one, and its the only Root Beer float i have ever liked. I will get it again when i go back. It was delicious. I believe their ice cream is their own recipe. This place was once featured on Food Network, Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive in's, and Dives.
The original one (i think) is in Deep Ellum, near downtown Dallas. Deep Ellum is kind of a nightlife hub, but not my scene. So when i go, i go during the day. I think there is another Twisted Root near SMU but ive never been there.
What kind of food you looking for?
Ill try to think if any others stand out.Comment

Being that i live in that general area ("General Area." --salute), i dont know accommodations very well. I did stay in a hotel at the DFW airport that was nice once. i usually go to Fort Worth instead of Dallas, much friendlier and more laid back. But occasionally we go to Dallas.

Any food is good but I'll probably be looking for BBQ. I've already got a list going but if you have your favorite I'm all ears. I also kinda want a place that's not necessarily a BBQ place specifically but has like fat steaks that's not super nice steakhouse dress up style. But really anything. Desserts, etc. Any suggestions you might have not just good but anything else.Comment

Thanks for the help. Not coming for any specific event. Just wanna hang out and drive and eat and check out the neighborhoods and probably go to a ballgame and such. We'll probably be driving around a bit but maybe at night closer to stuff. Was thinking around the Galleria area. Is that a good clean area?

If it were me, just off hand, if i were to stay in the actual city of Dallas i think i would probably rather stay near Addison or near Highland Park Village (however, ive never been to this shopping center) they both seem like a nicer areas to me, based on what little I've seen. I've been to Addison several times for 4th of July and it was nice. Its less than 10 minutes north of the Galleria (15 to 20 minutes from Downtown) The other place is south of the Galleria, about 10 or so minutes away from Downtown. The only Hotel i know of near here is the Hilton/Park Cities hotel and i heard its pretty nice, and within walking distance of restaurants. I dont know if there are other hotels nearby. Look up some reviews near these places first to get a better idea.
From these areas of Dallas, you are probably 30 minutes or so away from Rangers Ballpark and the Death Star (Cowboys Stadium).
The only BBQ i have had anywhere near Dallas that i have really liked (i havent eaten much BBQ in the city) was Hard 8 Barbeque. It is located about 10 minutes north of DFW airport, and it was pretty tasty.
Arlington, near the Ballpark, wouldn't be a bad place to stay, but depends on what you like for entertainment, besides eating. It is also a happy medium between Dallas and Ft Worth.
There is also the Fort Worth stock yards, which has restaurants, with BBQ, and shopping with a western theme and some nice hotels. And longhorn cattle walking down the street. And horses. And some actors dressed like 1880's. Lol. And If you like Country music, or hate it and just want a taste of the scene, there is Billy Bob's Texas near the stockyards, which is pretty famous.
If you like history at all, you need to go to Dealy Plaza, (Downtown Dallas) the site of the JFK assassination. There is a museum there in the building that Oswald (supposedly...) shot from. And the whole area looks pretty much just like it did in the Zapruder film. If you plan on doing this, watch the movie JFK before you come to Dallas. It does a good job of transporting you back to this area in 1963.Comment

re: Off-Topic
I know it sounds like a cop-out, but after years of buying my dad things that sometimes just sit there..or that he might feel obligated to use (because he has everything he needs or wants it seems), the last couple of years we just take them out to eat. My dad genuinely likes doing that and hanging out better than another gift or clutter.
However, in the past we have gotten him wallets, a pocket knife, a multi-use ladder, a really good flashlight, a sound bar for his tv, outdoor game cameras, a drill, a grill, a tool box, a concert dvd...and other things i cant remember atm.
If i catch a hint for something he needs or wants, i will get it still.
Doesn't sound like a cop-out at all. The older people get (in general), the more they value experiences rather than things. At some point, you sort of have all of the 'things' you really want, and the things you don't have probably can't be gotten as gifts (by any normal people).
Almost all the dads I know would rather have a nice meal and maybe knock a few back with their family or go golfing rather than get some random 'item' that will never be used. A nice meal with the family is a nice memory forever. Can't buy that.Comment
