One of the negatives to working on an ambulance is the abundance of sick people I’m exposed to on a daily basis.

I got the flu shot in early October, and still got hit with the flu last week.

I'm starting grad school in May. It's going to be a three year, full time program for nurse anesthesia. It's supposed to be one of the toughest programs to get through, but the hard work will definitely pay off... I've got about 3 months left to dilly dally around. Should I even bother buying a new console (thinking PS4) or even a Kindle (maybe the Voyage or the Oasis) to keep me entertained for 3-4 months? I'm also going to travel to the Philippines for a bit... I feel like I'm in limbo waiting for this program to start.

I believe the rare "Super Blue Blood Moon" stuff will happen in about 12 hours from now?

Usually when anything happens, it always seems to be cloudy, or it's just at a part of the sky that you can't see if there's a single building or tree around you. Hopefully this one is different.

I doubt a grad school program will keep you busy enough by itself to preclude you from playing video games or reading if you want. It can be a bit overwhelming at first when you set out to balance different responsibilities. But, I think people tend to overestimate the time commitment for grad school (probably a healthy thing to do, honestly, especially at first). Most types of programs will ask you for 50-70 hours per week with small variations up or down based on what your semester is like and so forth. Depending on if you have kids etc, the rest of the week is yours.

Some people can come across as trying to 'psych you out' about how hard grad school is; both profs and students will do that. Students in the thick of a grad program are especially notorious for this with many attributing their struggles to the difficulty of the program/content rather than diversions/poor study habits/work-life imbalances/motivation shortages. I always cringe when someone says they study "like 12-16 hours per day." I know health grad schools are different than what I'm used to, and things get dicey around exam time, but still...

I completed a rigorous PhD program (chemistry) in one of the most hardcore research groups at a major B1G school and there was plenty of time for chilling/clubbing it up/gaming/etc. In fact, I wouldn't have enjoyed it quite as much or been nearly as effective as I was without a solid group of buddies and things to do to break up the monotony of it at times. Granted your program will be more course/study-heavy and less lab/teaching-heavy than mine was, but the balance of hours probably comes out in a wash.

It's really important to have an outlet/outlets as a grad student. Video games and books are actually among the cheapest and most modular entertainment you can find. Easy to pick up, pause, and get back to later. You don't want to spend each night at the pub or whatever, but you know what they say about all work and no play.

                      Well sure.

But I'm not about to walk around every day wearing a mask.

And it works too. I eat an apple virtually every day and haven't had to go to the Dr. outside of routine checkups in years.
