On a serious note that display case is nice. Where did you pick it up?

Michael's is running a 50% special on those. Last week I grabbed three myself. Here's a link:

Half the answers in this thread are links to Michael's.

So then I'll ask you decorating divas a question. I want to display albums on the wall about my record player. I want to be able to change them regularly so no cases. What I envision in my mind are thin, shallow shelves, but I am not having any luck finding anything close.

                        re: Off-Topic

My math student has given me a "probability" problem that has stumped me:
There are two families, family A and family B. Both of them have two children. Family A has a boy who plays football, and the other child likes to swim. Family B has a 5-year old boy and a newborn. Which family is more likely to have a girl? Why?

Here have been my guesses so far, just pasted from my e-mails back to him:

                        Spoiler

He said that was wrong. Then I looked more at the age factor and made my second attempt:

                        Spoiler

Also said was incorrect, that I was overthinking it, but that it did have to do with the ages. So my final crack so far is this:

                        Spoiler

... to which he also said is not only incorrect, but I am still way overthinking it. I mean, clearly I am. I'm aware of that fact. That's because I can't think of any simple answers to this.

Maybe it's one of those kinds of problems that doesn't require a math mind, but one of those "Five-year-old's answered this with a higher success rates than adults." I mean I don't actually think there is any sort of probability involved (not that anything I did was real-real probability to begin with, but still).

Can anyone else take a crack at this, tell me what I'm missing or go for your own answer here?

Didn't read the spoilers but even though it's a "trick" question I would assume if there was a correct answer it would be family B since the new born is too young to give clues as to his/her interest.

There is no fair logic to assume either male or female with family A and with family B both children are too young to assume anything so if I had to pick one of the two it would be family B.

                              I’d go with option B.

B waited 5 years to have a second child. If they wanted a girl they probably wouldn’t have waited so long but since life isn’t fair they got a girl.

Option A wanted a girl and had kids closer together and since life isn’t fair had a boy and they said **** it. It’s not worth having a 3rd.

Right? I don't know how there really is a way to say what the better chance is of having a girl regardless, unless these clues mean something. Or, unless they mean to look the opposite way, kind of like you said. In making no assumptions, that allows us to presume even more as a result.

Hmm, interesting. I said the exact opposite reason in one of my other statements (that A settled once they had both). I get your logic though equally as much.

I believe according to my student though, that still may be "overthinking it." I can't wait to hear what his answer to this is, but I don't want to cave in yet and ask him to tell me it.
