The way it is now I'm fine with. I like summer days being bright past 8pm,sometimes even up to 9pm.

Winter might as well have earlier sunrises to please the majority who have to leave before 8am. Sucks getting dark before 5pm, but that's the tradeoff. 6-7am sunrise and 7-8pm sunset I think would please most people, unfortunately its impossible to make it so.

If we went with "fall back" all the time, wouldn't summers have sunrises before 4am?

I haven’t see any “bright” summer days in the US after 9pm. At least on the East Coast.

I’ve seen where there still be a little bit of “sunlight” around but then getting dark real quick but definitely nothing bright.

Western Michigan in the dead of summer. You could tee-off at 5:30 PM and easily finish 18 with sunlight left over without rushing, and have time to sip a cocktail in the clubhouse while watching the sun go down. It's pretty glorious, actually.

Yea, the sunset here in Pittsburgh this year in the solstice is 8:54 pm.

Really? For me, from mid June until mid July is sunset +/- 4 or so minutes from 9pm.

Looks like the sunset in Toronto is about 30 mins later than the sunset in DC on the solstice.

Right, latitude and longitude (with regards to placement within time zones) both factor in. At the North Pole, the sun will never set on the Summer solstice while conversely it will never rise in the south pole which will be at the winter solstice. And if you're near the eastern edge of a timezone, it will get dark (and light) earlier than if you are on the western edge of that same timezone since the sun can't set/rise over that entire timezone at the same time.

Yep. I mean, Michigan is practically 1/4 of the way across the country from NYC, yet they are both in the Eastern time zone. I think the western part of Michigan is essentially the western terminus of the Eastern time zone (actually the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is), so in a way it's the maximum sunlight possible in that regard.

One of the many, many things to love about the summer is the endless daylight...

Spent most of the morning and afternoon in the ER thanks to kidney stones...again. I passed one while there and have 3 more in my upper kidney. I also, not surprisingly, have a kidney infection.

Summer-clocks all year-round. I've been saying this for as long as I can ever remember. How is having more sunlight in the afternoon a bad thing for anyone? Even schoolkids (which, by the way, there's no actual evidence as far as I know that DST was started because of dark mornings being a safety issue for kids).

It wasn't. It was started in Germany (and later adopted several countries in the war) to save coal during WWI for use by the military
