CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
Why would you go to a bar anyway with a mask? Gotta take it off to drink or eat. Seems pointless to bring one.

CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
Here’s a study from last week about masks. Makes it seems like they aren’t worth it.
“We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic”

Interesting but that article also says:Here’s a study from last week about masks. Makes it seems like they aren’t worth it.

"Masking all providers might limit transmission from these sources by stopping asymptomatic and minimally symptomatic health care workers from spreading virus-laden oral and nasal droplets."
That's why I try to wear a mask when I'm inside a store (I'm not worried about getting it from someone on the street that I walk by). It's not just about my fear that I may get it from you. It's that I may have it, not know it and I don't want to spread it to you.Comment

Bingo.Interesting but that article also says:

It bears repeating, it's not a me virus, it's a we virus to protect the more vulnerable plus elderly and front line essential people.
A friend of mine is a nurse and here is what she had to say
While wearing a mask is a choice, I think if people knew the huge benefits of masks, they could make an informed decision. A study published last month in the New England Journal of Medicine found a cloth mask can stop more than 90% of the droplets that can spread the coronavirus. But that’s only the case when the mask captures droplets at the source, when worn by a person who’s infected. Since not all infected people show symptoms, everyone should wear a mask.
In NY City, you can't go inside a business without a mask, the place of business can kick you out, but I'm not sure how that law will be effective.
No mask, no service.
Dickey, I understand you don't wish to wear a mask and maybe if I was living in Alaska, I may feel like you do because Alaska has more land and room to roam and is less populated than some other areas of the lower 48.
I wear a mask because we are near densely populated areas and I have a mom and dad 1 hr and 30 minutes away and both of them are vulnerable. I had my first haircut last Friday since lockdown, you don't get a haircut if you don't wear a mask.Last edited by roadman; 05-28-2020, 10:06 PM.Comment

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
Thats assuming people wear their mask properly and they dont touch their face a million times adjusting it and they clean it each time. I only wear a mask at Costco and I touch my face more at Costco than at the grocery store where I dont wear one. I saw a guy who was at least 70 at Costco 2 days ago who used a plastic bag for a mask lol. The CDC even says staying 6 feet away is more important than a mask and masks arent a substitute to social distancing. I dont care if people wear masks but I do care when they become mandatory as stores and the government act like masks are some amazing form of protection when the CDC says it should be used as a last resort.Interesting but that article also says:

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
Articles from CDC endorsing mask use:
Nothing in this article says to use it as a last resort.
In light of this new evidence, CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
It is critical to emphasize that maintaining 6-feet social distancing remains important to slowing the spread of the virus. CDC is additionally advising the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others. Cloth face coverings fashioned from household items or made at home from common materials at low cost can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.Last edited by roadman; 05-28-2020, 11:47 PM.Comment

To me its clear social distancing is more important than a mask and masks are only if you cannot social distance which would be a last resort.

Vanilla ice cream is good. It's even better if you put chocolate syrup on it.
I don't see the problem.

I am pretty worried about all these gatherings happening of late.
Gonna be a few more "wait 2 weeks" situations to monitor I guess.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
And it has a doozy of a strawman argument in the middle of it:
Who's arguing that universal masking alone is a panacea? What is clear, however, is that universal masking alone is not a panacea. A mask will not protect providers caring for a patient with active Covid-19 if it’s not accompanied by meticulous hand hygiene, eye protection, gloves, and a gown. A mask alone will not prevent health care workers with early Covid-19 from contaminating their hands and spreading the virus to patients and colleagues. Focusing on universal masking alone may, paradoxically, lead to more transmission of Covid-19 if it diverts attention from implementing more fundamental infection-control measures.
I have heard of:
- Testing
- Thoroughly washing your hands
- Social distancing
- Testing
- Contact tracing
- Widespread vaccination when available
- Testing
- And sure, using masks.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
It doesn't help when WHO is saying not to wear masks if you are healthy.
WHO guidance: Healthy people should wear masks only when 'taking care of' coronavirus patients
The World Health Organization is recommending that healthy people, including those who don't exhibit COVID-19 symptoms, only wear masks when taking care of someone infected with the contagion, a sharp contrast from the advice of American public health officials who recommend everyone wear a mask in public.Current careers:

So do you think it would be easier for the government to mandate that everyone stands 6 feet apart than requiring that they wear masks? You said masks should be a last resort, but how are they going to guarantee the steps before that are being met?Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Neither should be mandatory by the government. Do you think someone should go to jail or be fined for not wearing a mask or social distancing?MLB: Texas Rangers
