Our son had 3 lab classes online this semester at MN.

The professor would instruct all the way up to the lab part and then turn off the video and come back on after the lab work was completed in classroom.

Our son said no way can you replicate lab work lab work online with the real thing, I would would tend to agree with him.

That is where I was going with it.

My undergrad alma mater (small, rural, private college) is taking a hybrid approach to next year as far as in-person/online learning goes. Students will return to campus in August but will be subject to cornavirus testing upon arrival then will have 12 weeks of in-person instruction ending before Thanksgiving then the final 3 weeks including fall semester finals will be done online. For the Spring 2021 semester, it will start with a 3-week online Capstone course before students return to campus in early February for 12 weeks of in-person learning. There will also be modifications to campus life to attempt to minimize crowd sizes and whatnot.

Just depends how well your school prepares for it. I did all my engineering labs online and it was doable.

I understand, I doubt major colleges had much time to prepare for the lockdown we were in at the time.

One day you are going to all your classes in the middle of the semester and the next day you are home bound and online for the duration of the semester.

Yeah very true. I’m surprised how well colleges and primary schools were able to adapt considering how quickly everything happened.

There are plenty of online and self paced schools, so primary schools didn't have a lot of issues with material. Some of the schools already do some of the online stuff in the classroom.

Colleges are going to need to open back up because that is too much revenue to leave on the table. I think it is good for people not to go to college because too many students waste their money and time getting useless degrees with a ton of debt. It is good though for the students to get out of their parents house and have to live since too many are way to sheltered. So there is good and bad, if colleges can work together and create smaller local groups of students so you still get some social and team building skills it could work.

One thing is for sure: the responding to pictures of large groups of people outside with shocked emojis and abject fear isn't going to be a thing anymore after this. I mean, people can do it if they want, but you can't unring that bell.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

Missouri opened May 4th. The St. Louis area delayed opening until May 18th. The partying at Lake of the Ozarks started May 22nd.

So the rise in cases is absolutely the protesters. You will hear it often.

That sudden rise in cases before opening was “just a meat plant” and testing it was strategic. It polluted the data and provided a fake decline in cases. The issue isn’t that they counted them, but how states are strategically manipulating data to take advantage of how we read graphs.

Over time I have watched as the numbers Missouri releases lagging behind what The NY Times reports, only to catch up in a dump from counties that “had not reported yet.” But The NY Times gets numbers by contacting each county themselves. Somehow The NY Times can get them, but the governor can’t.

But none of this mismanagement is effecting new cases. Nope, next week it will be all about the protests.

We are sitting in the hotspot of Wisconsin, no hoaxes here.

With 919.7 confirmed coronavirus cases per 100,000 people, Racine County has become one of the nation’s COVID-19 hotspots. That figure, reported by the state Department of Health Services, is higher […]

Have you actually taken a moment to understand the difference between those two items? Or the common refrain church/etc vs going to Walmart?

Isn't a protest a social outdoor gathering? I'd think it would be safer to have family and friends over for a BBQ than it would be to be around hundreds of strangers you don't know.

I support healthy discourse and disagreement, but I think it's pretty clear at this point that everyone in this thread has long ago retreated to their viewpoint's corner and will not be engaging in anything other than affirming their own already-held beliefs, while rejecting everything else.
