Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
I got sick on February 29 and it lasted almost 4 weeks. During that time I assumed it was a sinus infection that turned into an upper respiratory infection.
I had almost every symptom I've seen for Covid-19 but several of them only lasted for a day or so. I had a fever one day for about 6 hours. I had the chills and shivering one day. I lost taste and smell for about a week and so on.
Many of my friends and relatives are convinced that I had it but I've remained skeptical. I do get URIs every year or two and it usually takes me 3 weeks or so to shake it so while it was happening I assumed it was that.
The only real symptoms that have made me question whether I had it were the cough (it was much worse than I've ever had and even though I could feel a tickle in my bronchial tubes I could not produce anything with my cough - it was frustrating) and the slight loss of smell (though I had no nasal congestion) and total loss of taste (something I've never experienced before).
Full disclosure, the last week or so that I was sick, I did produce a lot of crud from my lungs.
I still don't know what to think.Comment

At least we can all agree that we hope China gets sanctions galore when this is all over and companies pull from them and families are allowed to sue. They (the Chinese government) should have to pay one way or another.
In other news, new study suggests saliva can be as effective as nasopharyngeal swabs for detection of the virus, allowing self-collection that can reduce direct provider-patient interactions, lowering the risk to healthcare system and demand on testing supply chain.

Read summaries of the latest results for 230+ locations, including WHO regions, national, and subnational locations.
I believe some of this is contingent on testing that is still not available though, it's late and I haven't read through all of the modeling updates. This is updated regularly.Attached FilesComment

Still reason to be optimistic, if other metrics are in decline it's still good news, deaths while unfortunate in any circumstances are a lagging indicator and will be the last to show signs of any downward slope.
Even positive cases is tough to really gauge, because it's really a measure of testing, rather than the rate of new cases. Biggest one for me is the measure of admissions and intubations, most informative graphs at Cuomo's pressers IMO.
Unrelated, our (Las Vegas) mayor was on CNN today. Ugh. Her interview with Anderson Cooper was so bad it went viral.Comment

There's a lot of blow back that comes with trying to sanction a country that exports and imports so many goods. Who needs who more and are we really willing to go down that rabbit hole and write more bailout checks?
I believe in holding people accountable, but at this point I'm more interested in working with than against. Our own country dropped the ball too when presented with facts, but the American way is passing the buck to cover for our own incompetence. Was it too late by then to stop the spread? Yeah probably so, but attempting to sanction China seems like a bad move that will drag the impact of the virus out even longer in the world. At this point I just want to return to as close to normal as possible.
Just my .02 cents. I'm obviously not an economist and just talking in layman's terms.Last edited by AUChase; 04-23-2020, 09:45 AM.Comment

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
On March 1 there were 23 confirmed cases in Boston, New York, Chicago , San Francisco and New York.
One model says that number could actually have been 28,000 cases.

I just read they’re examining pretreatment wastewater, and it’s showing that 15x more people have CV then there are confirmed cases in my area. They did caution this was very preliminary but I thought the method of collection was unique and smart.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
