Yesterday I popped into Lowe's and felt bad about going...and then I saw the parking lot about as full as it's ever been. Was like damn I should've bought some stock in Lowe's and yep it has taken off since all this.

Also, apparently the CDC is now including headaches as one of the symptoms. Had this current set of symptoms been in place in mid-March, I would have been looking to get tested about 2 weeks before the lockdowns began. At that time I was feeling everything except the shortness of breath (and fortunately never had that).

I don't know what to listen to or believe anymore - as my state prepares to open back up on May 4.
This is honestly where I'm currently at. I understand this virus is new and the doctors and scientist and all are still learning about it, but it seems nothing is the same for more than a week, whether it be symptoms, numbers, or whatnot. And I can turn on one tv station and here a doctor say one thing and then turn to a different station and here a different doctor say something completely different.

I hear the gov of my state mention that while ICU beds and all are at over 50% capacity, the number of those patients who occupy those beds due to COVID-19 are less than 20%. And then they stated that 75% of the ventilators they have at their disposal haven't had to be used.

Now I'm not accusing anyone of inflating anything, just that its hard to keep track of the little bouncing ball. And after speaking with my dr on Friday for a virtual checkup, his thoughts have gone to the point where he thinks its ok to open things back up, but people need to maintain the protocols in place, which we should be following anyways during flu season.

Again, not downplaying the severity of this virus nor am I suggesting we just go back to normal and everything will be fine, but in listening to our gov, the head of the health dept, talking to my dr who I've had for over 25 years and who I trust 100%, and other friends and family who work in hospitals in this area, I'm confident in our state's decision to start opening things back up on May 1st.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I think the bottom line is the Stay at Home and social distancing has been effective.

I still think it’s a big mistake opening back up this soon. I don’t think we know enough about the virus yet since every day some new piece of information comes out that makes you question whether or not you’ve had it, the accuracy/availability of testing, etc...

Just too many unknowns for me but I’m a very risk adverse person in general.

Pretty much agree with this. There is a lot unknown, and things seems to change everyday. What is known though is that in about a 2 month time span 50k people have died in the US with most of the country being on lockdown for much of that time frame. It's a pretty logical conclusion to say that without those measures the number of people dead and the number of people in the hospital due to covid19 would be higher.

I think we are being used as lab rats (intentionally or not) . I'm still going to act like it's necessary to stay home. They can find out if they were wrong on someone else.

Dr. Birx said this morning social distancing will stay throughout the summer, but based on the current models, it appears the hot spot areas are declining in numbers. She listed Louisiana, Detroit and Houston.

It will be interesting to see what normal looks like. So many companies have gotten the violent shove into remote work that would have taken years to study, understand and implement in some industries. In IT at work we're already moving in a direction that may make working remotely a permanent option for positions that make sense. It reduces costs as long as the productivity remains - and thus far it has for the bulk of our employees.

Already we're planning on being the last group to return, and have been told that could be 6 months from now.

No idea what teaching is gonna look like come fall. Basically impossible to social distance at all in schools

Unfortunately, one of the reasons we get so much sketchy information is that Fauci and Birx are required to make things seem more optimistic than they are. It has created a weird subtext to what gets released. And information has been politicized, so you get the usual suspects debunking anything that comes out, regardless of which side of the political spectrum they are on.

Right now, things are going really well. But think of this like a hairline fracture in your foot. It will start to feel better, and your confidence will grow before it can take the pressure you are about to give. But come back to full speed too soon, and that fracture will open up and maybe take longer to heal.

And that is where we are at. Every state is getting pressure to open up. But with your foot, if you blow it, you are stuck. But if a state blows it, say, like Tennessee, that will affect all the surrounding states. While MO shares a small border with TN, I know there is a lot of commuting back and forth. I know lots of folks in St Louis from TN, and still have family there.

In Missouri, we’ve actually done pretty well since the cases began escalating. We’ve been on a really slow decline for about 3 weeks. The St. Louis are has 60-70% of the cases. I just saw someone ask why western Missouri can’t open up, and it should be obvious. If they do, people from St. Louis will gladly head out to shop and visit the parks. We will bring as much virus as you can hold.

So many states are treading water under current social distancing measures. The measures put in place, generally, were not strict enough. It’s been enough to flatten the curve, but I do t think people understand that flattening the curve is just a stopgap measure. If you are still getting dozens of new cases a day, relaxing measures will make that worse.

What it seems like to me is that a bunch of states are about to create a much bigger problem. Missouri May be on that list if Parsons goes through with his plans of a May 4 opening. St Louis will remain locked down, I’m sure, which will help, but won’t stop the spread, because I am positive folks will leave this area to do what they want elsewhere. And a % will carry the virus.

I have a feeling we'll go back in August then go back to remote learning again after the second wave hits.

I'm curious about this too. I think many companies (I know mine is one of them) have been slow to embrace teleworking, even though technology has more than caught up with the ability to do so for most office jobs. We have been working from home since March 15th, and as far as I know there has not been any productivity loss. Well, the first week of the month was not easy because the VPN is slow and certain financial deadlines made it pretty stressful, but the other 5 weeks have been fine .

There are still benefits in working face to face, but I hope that companies realize having a couple days a week where employees can work from home isn't going to be total anarchy.

Remote learning does not work for most families or younger kids. If the parents have to work, how can you watch, feed, etc younger kids? If you have multiple kids they have to be online at the same time. It's hard for young kids to stay focused online like that. They will have to figure out something or hire a bunch of more teachers to do more 1 on 1 online learning.

I travel for my job and I like doing it. I'm hoping to be able to get back to traveling at some point, but I wouldn't be surprised to see us go to mainly working from home. I'm fine doing it every once in a while, but I'd rather travel.

Australia and China the only other two countries opting out of this initiative.
