    Hard pass for me.

12 to 18 months is even tough to swallow after hearing it takes 5 to 10 years for a vaccine to hit the market on the average and only 1 in 10 are successful.

The hypocrisy is funny. I read an article the other day about a Texas mayor that was busted for disobeying her own stay-at-home order to go to a nail salon.

We may be getting closer to a vaccine for COVID-19, but we're no closer to vaccinating against stupid.

Eh, I don't think that's anything conclusive. They said the study was cancelled for low enrollment and then the "results" were posted in error. I will wait *heh* to see what some of the clinical trials in the U.S. have to say about it. There are several going on around the country.

That was me and I don’t have a problem with those vaccines (I’m not anti-vaccine). I’m just hesitant to have my kids get a vaccine that will most likely be fast-tracked.

I'd like to know more about what goes into fastracking. Whats getting done that will allow them to hopefully get this done signifcantly quicker than normal. Are important steps getting rushed, or are they cutting out a lot of red tape? I don't know anything about it.

Kids and people 65 and under will be at the back of the line for vaccines, as they should be. The people most in need are seniors, particularly 75+, who are making up close to 60% of the deaths. After all those folks are taken care of, then we can talk about younger people. Children 14 and under are so low a risk that it's not even worth talking about honestly.

I guess it was always my understanding that we didn't vaccinate against viruses, only illnesses.

I don't think these demonstrations will be anything close to what a revolt would look like if a mandatory vaccination comes to fruition... No way I'd let them shoot me up with this stuff.

I unfortunately won’t have a choice. I got the H1N1 vaccine as well. I wonder how long that came out after it started.

Do you think front line workers will be before seniors? ie doctors, nurses, etc..... 7 billion people in the world.

Remember that part of vaccinating will be so the disease can't be transmitted. Asymptomatic people have been shown over and over to be able to carry the virus. For some people, that will be the much larger concern than having a minor illness for a few days. It would be difficult to take a "just old people strategy."

It's a fair point, but anything can be risky. Even well-established therapeutics have some risk of deleterious effects. I remember one student I had in a previous course was deathly allergic to aspirin, and we happened to be synthesizing aspirin at the time. lol (I sent her home)

Let's hope that fast-track doesn't equate with "total lack of scientific evidence about safety and efficacy."

It will also be true that some questions will only be answered more definitively with an ever-larger test group and elapsed time. Some trepidation makes sense from that perspective. It's all about risk tolerance.

To me, the upside of not having to worry about any of this crap anymore (if you might get sick, if you could get others sick, if you can go to work/school) might be worth it to be something of a guinea pig.

They’ll most likely lump the elderly, those with serious pre-existing conditions and health workers into some sort of Tiered system where they are at the top of the list for getting the vaccine based on immediate threat (elderly/pre-existing conditions)+ rate of exposure (health workers).

I'm not a threat to your life. Man, that's extreme. Everytime we get in a car, fly in a plane, go into a public place - and many more - we're all taking our lives into our hands. You're reading way too much into this, friend. I simply asked a question - you have labeled me as "anti" - and WHERE did you actually read that in my post??? I simply asked a question, and an answer was provided. Keyboard warrior... Geesh.

Edit: To clarify - I would never want to have a rushed and unproven vaccination. THAT was the context of my comment. I have 4 kids and all were vaccinated. But this is being pushed too quickly, in my opinion.
