Meijer had 1lb ground turkey for $1, all the display areas were sold out, I was mad. Then a dude who had already clearly stocked the hell up, asked a worker if there was any more. I hung around in the background... the worker brought out more, the hoarder tried to pack them all into his cart but there wasn't enough room.
So, I got a couple

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
I'm usually a late night shopper...great for social distancing I suppose?
Anyhow, I went to my local grocery store earlier tonight and it was busier than usual. I got my usual amount of things and was behind this woman who seemingly bought one of everything. Her order took so long to scan that I even made a couple of "impulse buys" from the display near the register (a Butterfinger and a pack of AAA batteries for various remotes, if you must know). The conveyor belt after checking the items splits off into 2 lanes so one person can bag their groceries on one side while the next order goes into the other lane. Her side of the conveyor belt was really smashed in there and items on top of other items, lol.
I was chatting with the usual cashier, whom I recognize and who recognizes me from my usual nocturnal grocery store visits, and he was giving me crap about my impulse buys. He was also telling me about all the massive orders people were buying. He had some $400+ order and the guy in line behind me (whom I did not know, but seemingly worked at a store himself) was talking about how he had an order of $500+ earlier today. Normally this same cashier is telling me how boring it is and how little there is to do. Today he was telling me that my order was the first one he'd checked under $100 (which I didn't believe, but still). Times are a changing.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

I'm surprised that we havent seen more of a rationing from stores yet to stop people like that.

I'm seeing the federal government is mulling a national curfew, with exceptions being grocery stores and pharmacies.
Too much photo evidence floating around of people over the weekend at crowded places.Comment

China basically shut down for 2-3 months. Us weening ourselves off is not really accomplishing anything.

I listen to Dr. Fauci, more than our political leaders.
There, NJ just issued a statewide curfew of 8pm and it remains into effect for the foreseeable future. States are making quicker decisions vs fed. government.Last edited by roadman; 03-16-2020, 09:55 AM.Comment

Still, we need to be able to make decisions without always counter-weighing the decision by monetary value of its costs. Obviously we don't want people losing their jobs, homes, or having to chose between health and wealth. But that is where we're at and that "norm" was apparently OK to a lot of people for many years.

Substantial and arguably dangerous precedents are being set by federal/local governments.

Any non-essential business are shut down at 5PM today in Maryland for foreseeable future.
Drive through is open.
Hogan basically said "we tried to play nice but no one wanted to follow rules" so now we have a mandatory shut down.Comment
