What’s weird though is with how contagious this thing is you would think if it was around significantly earlier things would have really exploded earlier in a lot of places. A lot of things can cause similar symptoms.

I know in the early days of testing in my state, which has been hit hard, even with all the challenges in actually getting a test and all the symptoms you needed to have, only about 10% of people were testing positive.

I don't think it was Covid. I was down the first week of January, but it was still just the flu (type A).

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

I had something that lasted 3.5 weeks from the beginning of January till the 1st week of Feb.

I had a dry cough I couldn't get rid of and making it difficult to sleep at night with draining. I called my doctors office 2.5 weeks in and said I can't get rid of this.

I had the dry cough, but no fever. Diagnosed by PA as a sinus infection, which I've never had before. At the time, there were 6 cases(beginning of Feb) in Chicago and we were already discussing the virus. My nurse said you don't have a fever, so, you don't have the virus.

I was giving some cough medication and a antibiotic for 10 days and finally, near the end of the 10 days, I felt feeling better.

My wife came home from China on Jan. 26th and she picked up the infection I had. No fever, but dry cough. Her infection lasted about the same time as mine did.

We aren't jumping on the virus wagon because we had 0 fevers and mine was diagnosed by my PA.

Yeah, that seems logical. But, on the other hand, diagnosing a brand new illness symptomatically (that we now know can produce a variety of/no symptoms) seems like a tricky thing to do.

Yeah my ex-wife was diagnosed as having a sinus infection by her primary doctor about 3-5 days before she went to the hospital with worsening conditions and then tested positive for Covid 19.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were cases that started far sooner than the announced date, as people didn't know about this virus then.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

One of the aspects of this ongoing saga that has me fascinated is the antibody testing. Trying to figure out what fraction of our society has previously been exposed will allow us to have a much better grasp of how to proceed in the future.

Here is an article from Science magazine (not a peer-reviewed type, more of a news article) that sums up some of the antibody testing to date and, interestingly, some of the flaws in these studies. There is a double lesson here...the current state of testing as well as how science only functions well when impartial and various hypotheses/tests are subjected to scrutiny.

That being said, the linked article here appears to have a definite slant to it, although it is quite informative nonetheless.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

Governor of Minnesota just announced that the State is expected to have capacity to test 20,000 people per day and have greatly increased the number of people doing tracing. A bit of unexpected good news. I’ve been extremely impressed with the leadership here.

They have not sugar coated anything. They are transparent. They have been consistent all along and have followed through on what they say they are going to do.

Today was also the highest number of new cases and deaths in the State to date. I see a lot of people saying that we’re on the down part of the curve nationally, which flies in the face of all data I’ve seen. And if we just go back to “normal” too fast you’ll really see that this isn’t the case.

Anyway, just glad that we’re sticking to the plan of ramping up testing, tracing, and hospital capacity. All while making common sense decisions on re-opening some classes of business. For example golf courses are now able to open and they are talking about plans for other sectors.

“Opening” isn’t just everyone flying out into the world like it’s done. It’s figuring out how to live while the virus still exists in a way that is sustainable and more targeted in isolating flare-ups.

We WILL be going out into the world while this is still out there, so we should be preparing for what that means for each of us.

                    Nice work by your government.

I noticed WI has outpaced MN in the #of positive cases.

Protesters last Friday in MN and this Friday in WI.

Also, we had pretty big spike from yesterday to day, about 137 yesterday to 225 reported today. That doesn't go well with the 14 day curve.

Yeah, my state just had its biggest increase yet after a few days of small increases.

They set the stay at home order to expire on May 15 back in what, late March? Which I thought seemed reasonable at the time and now at about 3 weeks out I think will be a good cut off to figure out what to do at that point.

Driving home from work today and definitely more volume.

This actually makes me optimistic - because IF it has been here a little longer than we think, IS IT POSSIBLE that people were getting sick back in, say December, with symptoms that mirror Covid-19 - and had the ability to stave it off after a hard fight. We just didn't know then. My whole family, for example - wife and 3 teenage kids - all got very sick and each missed school and work. We were told it's "a strain of the flu" but no one was really sure. However, it didn't look like the flu. Each of them had bronchial issues, high fevers (our middle son spiked at near 104 degrees), and much coughing. I never got sick.

My only point is this: maybe this is further along than we know. And I see that as a good thing because it's possible more people have had it than previously known, more have built up immunity against it, and we can now proceed forward with more knowledge. Caution, yes...most definitely.

I believe Wuhan officials knew much more than they're saying. I believe many people left that city (as what - 12 million live there?) and that China was already preparing for this before any of us knew. That story this morning, in my estimation, sheds hope on this situation, and I hope other states will allow autopsies to be conducted to see if there's an underlying development.
China knew and even tried to steal a patent for a drug treatment. I definitely believe it has been in the US before the end of last year.

As testing ramps up the thing that still scares me is the amount of people who could be asymptomatic who would never go to get tested.

Still reason to be optimistic, if other metrics are in decline it's still good news, deaths while unfortunate in any circumstances are a lagging indicator and will be the last to show signs of any downward slope.

Even positive cases is tough to really gauge, because it's really a measure of testing, rather than the rate of new cases. Biggest one for me is the measure of admissions and intubations, most informative graphs at Cuomo's pressers IMO.

Unrelated, our (Las Vegas) mayor was on CNN today. Ugh. Her interview with Anderson Cooper was so bad it went viral.
