It just takes more than what should initially be deemed somewhat an overcorrection

If people aren't receiving a sizable viral load from someone that is infected and actively contagious, people are less likely to get sick

The biggest causes of infection are time and proximity. That is, if a person has a prolonged contact time of 10-15+ minutes with a sick individual and is within about 3 feet of them, that's when you are likely to have virus transmission. While being outside is the least likely place where someone could get infected, being in a controlled environment (indoors) is the most likely place one would be infected.

And even with that being said, there are still many people that seem to be wearing masks which almost completely prevents a sick person from spreading their own germs.

So it would be correct to assume that there may be an increase in infection rate....under normal conditions...these arent normal conditions. We still have to consider that there are still a lot of people scared and modifying their behaviors in ways to protect themselves the best way they can. There are also the circumstances required for infection (mentioned earlier) and the fact that places are still practicing social distancing and mask wearing inside businesses, effectively limiting the viruses spread, it's reasonable to conclude that we should only see a small blip, if anything at all, in the rate of infection down the line.

Basically, protests or no protests, we should continue seeing the virus trending down no matter what IF people continue to practice social distancing and mask wearing inside businesses.

I was wondering what region or country would be the first to stop counting its Covid-19 cases and deaths because they were making the government look bad. I figured it might be some communist or authoritarian country. Turns out it is Brazil which was still a democratic country last time I checked.

Actually I think that honor should go to North Korea who has been denying they have any cases at all from the start.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

I know we have a work from home thread, but it seems relevant here.

Our CEO sent out an e-mail a few weeks ago updating everyone on when to expect returning to the office and even hinted at the possibility that we won't be back until 2021. When I left the office for the last time in early March I never would have thought that I would not return until next year.

I'm still seeing people adhere to social distancing for the most part, but I've also started seeing/hearing more instances of people returning to "normal". My neighborhood pool opened up a couple weeks ago, and people are always there, a couple of friends have returned to going to the gym, I've seen more instances of people shopping without without facemasks, etc...

We surpassed 110k US deaths this week as well. It still seems kind of crazy people were hanging their hat on that non-peer reviewed Stanford study a month or so ago when we were already at 50k deaths.

It's a fair point but the reason I didn't mention North Korea is because they never started counting cases.

Most of the people who have donated to OS have been around a long time. For example: since June everyone who has participated in conversation has been on this site for 11 years or longer.. some close to 20.

I think the only point he's trying to make is history on OS has shown that these types of conversations have a longer shelf life behind closed doors. I'm actually really surprised that this thread hasn't got out of hand.. so maybe times are changing?

For a long time the Supporters forum was disbanded. Now it really doesn't serve as significant of a role and it's not an "elitist" club. It's just a place where you might can tip toe over the line a little more and keep it civil.

Also some people would rather share a little bit more personal stories/information about themselves with a smaller audience they are more familiar with.
