Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.

Meanwhile, Dr. Redfield has given his opinion on the upcoming fall season:

"For your country right now and for the war that we're in against Covid, I'm asking you to do four simple things: wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands and be smart about crowds," said Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"I'm not asking some of America to do it," he told WebMD. "We all gotta do it."
Without following the recommendations, this could be "the worst fall, from a public health perspective, we've ever had," he said.

      0% chance everyone complies, guaranteed.

      Also, Dr. Fauci weighed in:

"You can't run away from the numbers," Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergies and Diseases, said during a National Geographic panel Thursday. "You can't run away from the numbers of people who've died, the number of people getting hospitalized, the surges we're seeing."

"How long we're going to have to be doing this depends totally on us," Fauci said Thursday. "If we keep running away from the reality of the need to do it, it could linger on and linger on."

There is that "us" word, again.

You can keep with the sophistry all you want but the truth is there was plan, there were guidelines and this administration chose to ignore them.

This isn't about the plan failing after a punch (the pandemic). This is about having a plan that accounted for the possibility of getting punched and ignoring it the same.

More like the administration is darth vader. Cdc come out with guidelines and they're like this is too strict tells them to alter it. "I am altering the guidelines. Pray I don't alter it any further." Cdc creates new guidelines, administration like its still too strict alter it again. "I am altering the guidelines. Pray I don't alter it any further." Anytime they complain the cdc guidelines magically change.

            Kenny: What's the difference?
Vic: Well, in one, one girl wins. In the other....

I'm interested in what numbers he uses for the "surges". I use quotations there because I know some of the surges are not exactly what they appear. I really only follow Tennessee and Florida's numbers closely. I know the story nationally has been the South Florida spike, but it is caused by the delayed death reporting style.

For example, the way a lot of media is reporting the spike is that when the 225 death count on a Thursday is announced, they act as if that means 225 people died on that day. The truth is that is just the announcement of 225 deaths and generally those deaths go back 3-4 weeks at a time, so 20 will go to the day before, 18 the day before that, and so on.

When you place the death count numbers on the days that the death actually took place, this South Florida spike is actually not that true because August is still trending down compared to early July. However, the way the death counts are being released and reported has many people believing that there have been record deaths on numerous days in August alone, but that isn't the case.

Again, I am not calling Dr. Fauci a liar, I only follow two states closely and know this is how it is being released and reported in these two states. I would assume other states are following similar procedures and that they may be trending down more than the headlines make it seem, but I am sure other areas, like Missouri and the Ozarks, are still seeing the cases and deaths shoot up because some people are idiots to put it bluntly, who are going out and partying and are packed like sardines with no masks. And the mayor there is an idiot who keeps talking about how every time the media reports on their parties and case spikes, the tourism numbers pick up even more.
“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

I don’t know what you do, but in any line of work I have done plans can fall apart, and than you improvise or trouble shoot or whatever.

It’s not like there is this magical plan where everything went perfectly and this just disappeared.

Notice though how you actually have to keep using metaphors instead of just describing how the plan didn't work. We had a plan and it was completely disregarded. We had people and procedues in place because a pandemic is one of the greatest threats that we can face and that was dismantled and ignored.

It's befuddling that this is some point of debate or disagreement. It's not that the plan didn't work, it's that all of the prep work preparing us for exactly this situation was completely disregarded and discounted.

Everything beyond that is largely a political discussion, but those facts are the foundation of why we are where we are at today.

You are assuming the plan would've made this situation better and not worse. You are also assuming that this plan wouldn't be challenged in the courts and everything would happen smoothly.

And to be honest, any illness that is airborne that can be transmitted with no symptoms is almost impossible to contain no matter what plan you have.

I honestly would like to know the details of that plan. I get that people think the fact that they didn't follow that plan is a deep enough criticism and analysis without knowing what details or useful information would have led to specifically different outcomes, but I think it would be useful to know.

Not only was this ignored, in the years prior the rest of the infrastructure built to fight pandemics was reorganized and reduced. 2/3 of the CDC staff in China as well as an extension of the National Security Council were either reduced, eliminated or reorganized largely out of existence as business and politics were emphasized over science.
