Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
Yep, agree Canes, and for this virus, I'm living for my parents and grandparents living longer lives than what Covid could give them, it's always been about that and that is how I was raised by my parents.
All four of them are in a vulnerable age group and grandparents are vulnerable in health related areas.
Good find.
Most of the guys in my group of friends feel similarly about the pandemic. We aren't really fearful that if we contract the disease we will have an unfortunate fate. It's always possible, but 100% of us have legitimate worries with regards to our grandparents/parents who are in the vulnerable age brackets and/or are at high risk with conditions like diabetes. We all take precautions with making sure we visit with them responsibly.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Just for comparison, here is the numbers for NYC, obviously the place in this country that has been hit the absolute hardest. I used the same CDC estimate for the 10x infected. I also will share the link for the NYC data that was pulled straight from the .gov sit itself. The data was updated as of today, August 11th, at 1:00 pm est.
I also added in a percentage breakdwon of cases and deaths for each age group.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
One other thing to remember when we think about how the 70+ bracket is driving a large part of the overall IFR or talking about the reported infectiousness of younger people; we can't forget that 164k people have died since early March from Covid in the US. I'm not saying that to humanize the statistic or appeal to any sense of emotion. Just from purely analytical standpoint that puts it in a scope that we have not seen in this country, at least not in my life time. I don't mean to rehash the covid vs. the flu argument, but it's a convenient point of comparison here. The flu doesn't kill half that many people in the worst of years. Also, when we're talking about the flu, we do not take the kind of wide spread preventative measures against it that we have against covid for the last 5 months which makes that 164k number even more scary.
I like the various data points that are being shown. It helps to put into perspective that covid is not the end of the world. Something is obviously different and not being accounted for though (it might be as simple as the range of IFR for all age groups with the flu is much smaller, I don't know). Otherwise it simply doesn't make sense that we would have seen more than twice as many covid deaths this year versus the worst flu season of the last 4 decades (and still counting).Last edited by KSUowls; 08-11-2020, 06:50 PM.Comment

CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
The media is reporting when 4 people die in a day in Montana.
4 people.
We will never be rid of this if the media can help it.

The point is, it’s everywhere. They’ve now had 77 people die from a virus that could have been prevented if we would have had leadership take it seriously.

100% of coronavirus deaths are not preventable. Let's not act like they are. People were going to die regardless if the lockdown went better or not.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

If you think the pandemic has been handled poorly that is one thing, but to say all 100% of these deaths could have been prevented is taking it to the extreme.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

What? People die. Are we going to do this for every virus moving forward? Regular flu death count?
