I do think a lot of what we are being told is a lie and that a lot of it is government just trying to control us/scare us. I am not saying this is fake and no one is dying but I think the numbers are much lower than what people are telling us. Have heard multiple times reports of people likely dying of a heart attack with no symptoms of this virus and yet being reported has vivid. I agree with a lot of what you said on the last page or so but I know most people think we are crazy.

Nah. People throwing up their hands and going full blown conspiracy theorist is pretty new. Bizarre but new nonetheless.

I don't care one way or another, but are we listening to doctors or are we not listening to doctors? It seems like kids not going physically to school has caused a lot of problems with kid's learning and them being able to succeed.
Literally the first sentence of that shows it is completely different than what was said by Trump and company yesterday.
One said it’s important to get back to in person school if we can do it safely and responsibly (everyone agrees with)
The other said every school needs to be open no matter what and they will pull funding if you don’t open

Nah it’s a world wide conspiracy. First step is masks, next get everyone the microchips

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
I'm assuming you are still following Nate?I'd be curious how many tests per day those other countries are doing, particularly the past few weeks. Not that it's an excuse for anyone.
The US did 650k+ tests just yesterday, while Sweden has done 600k tests altogether in total. China has supposedly done over 90 million tests, with only about 83k positive cases. Then you have Brazil at 1.7M cases in 4.3M tests. Some countries count the same person being tested 3 times as 1 test, while others count it as 3.
Maybe one day someone will write a book explaining the methodology and reliability (or lack thereof) of some of these numbers.
Awful day.
Newly reported deaths
Today: 897
Yesterday: 922
One week ago (7/1): 701
Newly reported cases
T: 62K*
Y: 52K
7/1: 53K
Newly reported tests
T: 666K
Y: 641K
7/1: 633K
Positive test rate
T: 9.3%
Y: 8.1%
7/1: 8.4%
* record
There were a total of 2,576 deaths over the 5-day period Saturday-Wednesday, as compared with 2,407 for the same period a week ago.
Plus, a record number of cases and the highest positive test rate since May 6.
Just not really any good news here. The numbers in the Northeast still look pretty good, I suppose, but it's been a long time since that region was the main source of concern.
My comments: I can only go by the #s that are out there, whether they are cooked or juiced, if it happens in other countries or not.
I need to contact my doctors office today, this should be a interesting conversation.
I'm all for schools opening safely and we won't know until fall how that will come out. I don't envy teachers, admins and everyone else that will need to plan around that different type of environment.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
The disconnect is really simple. Schools are absolutely essential for the health of the country, both economically and the future health of our youth. It does have to happen. This can’t be minimized.
But one side is using that fact as a tool to force schools open and the other using it to require us to do the hard work to reduce the level of new cases a day to make opening schools possible.
The worst thing about such a pathetic performance compared to the EU, we actually had a time and information advantage that could have prevented a massive percentage of the deaths and cases in this country. And our economy would be opening today. Schools could open with a plan and not chaos. And sports could be played.
We can start to do the things needed to open schools and the economy any time. But right now, we have one side whose entire plan is open up and hope it works despite all the evidence from countries and states that have shown what has and hadn’t worked.
Forcing safe guidelines is not about being against schools opening its about doing it without it making everything worse, leading to future school re-closings.Comment

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
Or how about losing a grandparent in a nursing home? She knew she had days to live, the staff knew, and the family knew. Yet cant go see her at all, due to the "fear of Covid" So after 93 years, she died all alone in the bed with no one there around her. Staff didnt tell her that people weren't allowed to visit, because the felt that it would be detrimental to their health. So there she died, all alone, most likely thinking her family didnt give a damn about her...all while the family stood in the damn parking lot.
CDC and the WHO have been completely wrong at damn near every step of this process.
Whoever blindly believes the BS that the media is shoving down peoples throats is an idiot.
There is a reason many of us dont visit these boards anymore, and with that....Im out.
You made all that ruckus to take your ball and go home? We're months into this where did you think this thread was going to be at when you clicked it?Take this the wrong way or not, but the old head OSer shtick is silly...
Nobody is missing you if you're going to seek out a thread, click it knowing what you were about to see, and then make some grandiose melodramatic exit.
FWIW my grandmother passed away in a nursing home about a month ago and no one had been able to see her in a long time. She died alone and without anyone and then we dealt with the complications of her funeral and only 10 people being allowed or whatever. It all sucked man.... it really ****ing did, but at the same time nursing homes are doing what they have to do to mitigate risk. Nursing homes have been the epicenter of coronavirus cases in Alabama.... there's statistical evidence to back that up.
It all sucks man and we all feel different about it. If you disagree with everything you see just stay out of this particular thread and look at things that you enjoy. I'll be honest I skim right past some posts because my brain doesn't have enough energy to digest another chart or graph, but putting down the forum for showing concern, presenting information they see, and discussing isn't right either.Last edited by AUChase; 07-09-2020, 11:15 AM.Comment

The dude basically posted a "hearsay" story and wants us to believe the media is all lying.
C'mon man.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
I think we all understand that the majority of popular media outlets have some sort of agenda or purpose for existence. I just hate lumping all of them together. One of the best quotes I read (and I can't remember who or where I saw it now) was something along the lines of "Honest journalism is often the only thing that stands between the people and the truth."
That is to say that if journalism just died out completely imagine all of the wrong that politicians or whoever could get away with. Often times that journalism is what keeps elected officials in check.
It's up to us to fact check, decipher, etc. That's why I don't blame anyone for posting something here that may be misleading because it's up to us as individuals to decide whether we are taking it at face value or doing our own research as well. It's all up for debate though to me and that's part of why we're here right?
The best journalism and reporting is often behind a paywall for a reason. They don't get all of their revenue from generating clicks and advertisement so the motive for writing is usually completely different.
I just imagine Alex Jones wearing a tin foil hat when people blame the media for everything.Last edited by AUChase; 07-09-2020, 11:31 AM.Comment

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
It all falls apart with very basic follow up questions.
"Media sucks"
"The media is like everything. What media sucks?"
"THE media"
"No. Like a specific outlet."
"The Washington Post sucks."
"You subscribe to the Washington Post?"
"No."
"Do you actually read the Washington Post?"
"No"
"Have you EVER read the Washington Post?"
this is usually when the topic changes.
But seriously, I don't understand why it's so unreasonable to people that with a new virus credible orgs might get some things wrong in the beginning. Does it suck? Yes. Should they try to nail things down? Absolutely. Is it some grand conspiracy? C'mon.Last edited by dsallupinyaarea; 07-09-2020, 12:58 PM.NFL - Vikings

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
We can't cure the common cold and still people think we should be able to have all answers on a new virus within weeks?
Anyways, went to CVS last night. Other than the employees there was only 1 other customer that had a mask on.
A friend of mine has a sister who is a doctor in TX who was recently interviewed and reported that things are pretty serious there.

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
I've been working from home for a few days now.
My boss left work to help his wife with their children because she became sick. So they went to the doctor for her to get tested and just as a precaution the doctor also tested him. So she's been sick and she tested negative. He hasn't been sick at all and as a matter of fact just went for a 3 mile jog the morning of getting tested and his test results came back positive.
So everyone in our office got tested. I should get my results sometime today.
I have been on vacation and not around him, but you never know. I also saw it as an opportunity to get some time to work at home and to know for sure whether I'm okay or not. We were talking and this is a perfect example of how someone could be spreading a virus without knowledge and it supports the importance of the masks with or without symptoms of being sick.
If he didn't get tested and his wife was negative he might have came on back to work and been in the office with everyone.
Just thought I would share an example of how things can work.Comment

Re: CDC Officials Warn of Coronavirus Outbreaks in the United States.
We have mandatory masks in St. Louis and St. Louis County. From my time going to the store and doing errands, mask use is nearly 100% in grocery stores and most retail.
I can’t tell you how much stress near 100% compliance relieves. Beyond people doing their part, it eliminates the other aspect, where everyone is judging Ravelry one else, or you think they are. I’ve mostly had positive interactions with non-mask wearing folks, but 90% of people refuse to interact with each side, and mask wearing was mostly 50/50.
I text a friend at the auto parts store I worked at to see how they were doing. They were going zero masks, not for employees or customers. They were told the local police wouldn’t enforce it, and the clientele is pretty antagonistic to masks, which is the main reason I can’t work there.
But that is a very blue collar and white area. If you go out more westward, where income is higher, mask use it much more prevalent. But that is close to the city. The farther you get, the more antagonistic people are to someone wearing a mask or requiring it.Comment
