Bro you don't even know. I work at a grocery store and people were buying TP like that would cure the virus. There is a legitimate shortage everywhere in the US. At least hand sanitizer makes sense (although soap is still readily available which again is very ironic lol).

This was my thinking as well. Online for all universities, people working from home, and people just being home more with nothing to do seems like a huge influx of usage. That is way more then weekend, summer, winter vacation, and spring break I would think. Really not even close because many people are out doing things where now they will just be inside.Comment

My work is impacted by this too. Basically shutting down for foreseeable future. Plus side is that we might get (partially?) Paid vacation, key word is might.
I still get to finish out the week, but tomorrow will be strangest feeling. Last day for who knows how long, or if it'll be last payday for weeks.Comment

Usually, I don't believe in conspiracy theories. But Sunday was International Women's Day and only four days later all sports are cancelled and we're forced to talk to our wives.
(Sorry, just trying to lighten the mood around here)Comment

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

I own a gym man...we only do personal training with our computerized exercise machines, so high-end memberships and no way to replicate online...only one person has cancelled so far because of corona, he had a good excuse though because he previously had valley fever and his lungs are compromised...but I'm hoping people don't freak out and cancel left and right. I can't survive something like that.Comment

Hearing about the NCAA basketball tournament being completely cancelled was an eye opener. But it's smart. 41 people have died in the US, and keeping that number as low as possible is what matters.Comment

Look at the line at a grocery store or anything, those minimum wage part timers dont deserve that stress and workload. Theres not only major lines inside, theres lineups outside to even get in! Who knows where the line to pay starts and the one to get in ends.Comment

A lot more school districts here closed down. We're still open, but definitely getting the vibe tomorrow will be the last day and then we shutdown. There was a huge push today to get online lessons ready and packets sent home by tomorrowOriginally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

If you need toilet paper, hit up the office stores: Staples, Office Max, Office Depot. They usually always a have a ton because those stores aren't what come to people mind when they think of toilet paper.Comment

The NCES Fast Facts Tool provides quick answers to many education questions (National Center for Education Statistics). Get answers on Early Childhood Education, Elementary and Secondary Education and Higher Education here.
I work at a community college that's going all online until mid-April. To Fresh Tendrils' point, it's going to be a real challenge on many fronts. I'm not in IT, so I don't know about servers and all that. But for faculty and students to switch mid-course is wild. Those without experience using the learning management system are going to be in a bad way. I'm in an online program myself and there's a learning curve for sure.
I hope faculty are understanding of what we're asking them to do and reasonable in their expectations. Students also need to be patient and willing to give everyone a chance to figure things out. And that doesn't even get into students who don't have constant access to reliable tech/internet without campus resources. Or any kind of hands-on, experiential, lab, or clinical course.
We have a big meeting tomorrow about all this. Should be fun. I'm already planning to email all 700ish of my students and offer 1on1 Zoom assistance if they want it. We'll see what the bosses have planned...Last edited by Qb; 03-12-2020, 09:22 PM.Comment
