So the treatments that are being tested in other countries and are showing promise...what needs to happen for them to be used here? Do we have them? Can doctors just use them, or is there a bunch of red tape to go through to get them approved?

First Coronavirus case was reported in my county. The person tested positive at a clinic yesterday and is quarantined at home recovering. They just started testing here on Monday and had done 28 tests. 13 were negative and 15 were pending. Today mobile testing started in my area.

My county has a population over 170,000 people.

It would require the American government to swallow their pride and allow outside help. Much like the masks, test kits and everything else other countries tried to give us since the beginning of January but was denied.

I mean you have to realize American government didn't even think the virus was even real for the first 3 months this year. Calling it a hoax and all that. Now for the past 2 weeks we been in scramble mode.

If it isn't American made, probably going to be waiting a long time if ever they use it.

Feels pretty much like business as usual where I'm at. Just went to GNC and Gamestop and Walmart. I live in the Florida panhandle.

This should be a wake-up call for those under 50 or under 60 (or spring-break idiots) but I still have no confidence in the younger generation's (30 and under)contribution in fighting this monster.

Macys have shut down everything except their fulfillment centers (Aka where I work).

We have a lot of people in one area here.

"I want to inform you that due to the spread of COVID-19, we have made the decision to temporarily close all of our stores by end of business today. This includes all Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Bluemercury, Backstage, Bloomingdale’s the Outlet, and Market by Macy’s stores. The store closures will also require us to close or reduce activities at some of our distribution centers. We will provide both compensation and benefits to impacted colleagues. The Stores team met this morning to ensure that the closure process is orderly and that our colleagues have clear guidance on how this impacts them.

Our stores are the heart of our business and I want to thank our teams for their dedication. And I look forward to safely bringing our colleagues back together as soon as this crisis has passed. Our intention is to re-open the stores on April 1, 2020. However, we will continue to evaluate the situation in partnership with health officials and keep all of our teams informed of any changes.

Our corporate offices remain open; however, we ask that colleagues follow current CDC and Health Department guidance and work from home if possible.

All colleagues will be receiving direction from their respective leaders on how we will operate during this temporary closure. And we will continue to serve our customers through our .com sites and mobile apps.

I know these are very difficult times for all of us. But I also know this company is resilient, and our people are strong. We will work through this together.

Ford, GM and Fiat factories are shutdown nationwide. Half of the factories in my town feed those factories with parts and raw material, so they are going to shutdown too pretty soon.

I went to a neighborhood Walmart store(SE WI) and TP and paper towel aisle is bear, nothing, nada.

All sandwich meats and bread aisles are barren.

                  Very few canned vegetables remained.

I was fortunate enough to get our needs quickly and get out. The lady that was behind me in line at the self registers started coming closer to me. I gave her a look and she started backing up a bit.

At least it says they will compensate the employees, although who knows if that is full compensation.

My company sent out several emails today and while not directly saying it, they did hint that they will look to not penalize people for not having hours to bill to anyone. We will see what happens.

I have seen several companies I occasionally shop at saying they are closing but that they will continue to pay their employees. I will definitely keep those companies in mind and shop at them in the future. Companies that fire people definitely need to shared so people can choose. I know at some point you can't keep paying but you should be able to absorb some and treat your employees right.

Yea I forgot about that. I had to go to Staples for paper towels and tissues lol. But I did that
A few days ago. Walmart was barren in some areas but was pretty well stocked. The toilet paper shortage is so ridiculous.

Digestive symptoms may be more common in coronavirus infections than previously thought, with a small study released Wednesday finding that symptoms such as diarrhea and a loss of appetite were the “chief complaint” in nearly half of more than 200 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
The research suggests that, during the coronavirus pandemic, clinicians may need to look beyond the major Covid-19 symptoms identified by US health officials: fever, cough and shortness of breath.
That’s because many patients infected with coronavirus, according to the study, may initially present to the hospital with diarrhea, anorexia and vomiting – not necessarily with respiratory symptoms.
Even when researchers excluded anorexia – a loss of appetite or aversion to food – they found that 1 in 5 coronavirus patients still came to the hospital with diarrhea, vomiting or abdominal pain

TP Price gouging? I bought this Charmin megapack at Target six days ago for $25.99 and yesterday the same pack cost me $29.99!!

I always buy Scott because of it's sturdy thinness resulting in less paper in the bowl but they only have Charmin. I've yet to find ANY TP in Wal-Mart but we have plenty to last us awhile.

I didn't have any of the "classical" symptoms of coronavirus like shortness of breath, fever, cough, etc...so that would be quite the stretch to blame it on that.

Maybe people should just be on the lookout for anything unusual compared to the symptoms they normally get. For example, when I get sick it's basically always predicated by a sore throat. Getting sick in some other way, or in a different pattern of symptoms could be worth noting.

One nugget of positive data? WHO Situation Reports, that I'm reading daily now, show that Germany has been ultra-effective in preventing deaths due to coronavirus. Situation Report 58 shows Germany with 7156 confirmed cases and just 13 deaths to date. That's a CFR of 0.18% which is right about on par with regular ol' influenza. Too early to tell if the US will follow in the footsteps of Italy's tragedy or not, but it seems countries are having a wide range of outcomes--a lot of that seemingly to do with which parts of the population (old and infirm vs young and healthy) get exposed initially.

The REALLY exciting news, though, could be announcements forthcoming about re-purposed anitviral drugs that are effective against SARS-CoV-2. One particular study using a Japanese-made re-purposed flu vaccine on a population of ~340 Chinese patients showed efficacy treating 91% of COVID-19 patients vs 67% without it. Lots of other potential pharmaceuticals in the pipeline...the sooner the better, but it could still be many months.
