Re: Tactics?
As of now, I don't think I am. The reason is that I can not get them to "work". For example, no matter what I do, I can not get the AI to play actual "long ball" and hit it long and beat me over the top.
I also can not get them to play painfully slow, and pass it around their back four.
My guess at this point is even though I'm applying tactics and team sheets to teams, they're not being used by the AI when I play against them.
If anyone has any guesses as to how to get them to stick, let me know, as I already have a semi updated spreadsheet for this year's game. -

I was waiting until you tried the tactics to see what you thought, but this is EXACTLY what I witnessed when I tested some custom tactics using Barca 2 days ago.
No matter what I did, if I put the Barca custom tactics=1 or 100, they played EXACTLY the same (fast, hyper speed, mazy runs, like they each did a line of coke in the tunnel). They never played a single long ball or cross even when those values were set=100.
I even tried switching my controller to the CPU during one match, just to see if they somehow were using the "default" tactic, but when I switched they were using the created "favorite" that I set along with the checkbox on the Custom.
Bottom line, EA totally broke the tactics system with the implementation of Team Sheets. Good job EA, stellar effort.Comment

What this could mean is that by lowering it back to at least 50, the custom tactics will take effect again. And honestly, I'm not ruling it out. The passing is the only thing that isn't working with custom tactics.
If I set a team to be all out pressing me, they would. The opposite, and they'd back off. Yet their passing would still be short and fast. But, maybe lowering that slider will make the passing different, and custom team tactics can be used!
Maybe!Comment

I think I'm done with this game. Some of the cool features that look impressive at first sight are not having any effect on the game play, this being the most important one to getting teams to play even somewhat like their real-life counterparts. The Team Sheet feature is therefore useless to me; kind of like fishing lures that are designed to get anglers to buy them, not to actually catch fish.
I'll have to look at PES 2015 to see how good/bad that may be. I do believe I am done with EA sports titles of all types from now on. They just stink at Quality Assurance -- if they hired testers and those testers were any good, they would have to see *some* of these glaring holes. If they could make this game work properly, I would gladly pay $150 (US) for the game. As it stands, what looked promising has proven to be a significant disappointment. Given their history of patches in the past, I'm not hopeful they can patch all of this and get even a fraction of it right and then do it without breaking other things.
It looks more like the now standard cliche: FIFA is flashy, but *way* short on realism in game play. If I do ever buy another EA Sports title, it will be after reading comments from people that have played the game for several months and not found glaring problems. I think it's a fairly safe bet that won't happen until major changes happen at EA and their approach to both game design/engineering and Quality Assurance.Comment

Re: Tactics?
Were you using Matt's sliders with the high passing error setting? If so, fearwhatnow's discovery could be a saving grave. He believes that the higher that setting, the less varied the AI's attack is. So, when high, they dribble around looking for short passes and not crossing, but when low, they backpass, cross, etc.
What this could mean is that by lowering it back to at least 50, the custom tactics will take effect again. And honestly, I'm not ruling it out. The passing is the only thing that isn't working with custom tactics.

Yes, I had the CPU pass error at 85 when I tested this, so hopefully that is indeed the culprit.
That is encouraging that you saw a change in CPU behavior for pressing, with my testing I had set the defensive tactics=50, I was only concentrating on the passing speed/buildup issue.
I'll do some more testing with the CPU Pass error=50 & 5, just to see how these settings compare to 85, along with retesting the custom Barca tactics.Comment

Re: Tactics?
I tried a play now game, i was Chelsea against West Ham. I changed west ham to 100 in pass distance and even changed contolers to make sure they had the custom tactic to make sure it didnt default. I am using Matts sliders and i lowered cpu pass accuracy to 50, guys they still did the same dribling and short passing that every team in Fifa 15 does, they did cross it more with pass accuracy at 50 though. I think unless we get a patch making tactics work or making teams play differently i think we are stuck with every team playing the exact same way.Comment

Re: Tactics?
Not being able to have a custom tactic as a quick dpad press was a huge letdown for me too.
Playing with Barca, if I want to change to long ball to try and hit the opposition off guard I cannot change back to my custom tactic without fir pausing the game and selecting it.
Completely defeats the purpose of having the dpad tactics as an optionComment

Re: Tactics?
I had a bad feeling this would be the case..
after playing millwall in career mode in the league cup I got frustrated at them playing ping pong short passes so went out and did some tactics testing.I selected the already made long ball preset for millwall in team sheet screen, then played them in a friendly and nothing changed except maybe they did alot more crosses but didnt notice any long balls played into the last third.my sliders were at 55 for pass error for the AI btw
really hope this can be fixed not sure I can play a career mode with everyteam playing barcelona style football especially lower league sidesLast edited by saintric; 10-03-2014, 06:09 AM.Comment

Re: Tactics?
Tactics are jacked. EA screwed it all up with the dumb Team Sheets, which really only provides any value in a career mode. Outside of career mode and every other instance the main thing would be DPad tactics being customizable, and the actual custom tactics functioning.
Whatever design person at EA who thought the whole Team Sheet concept up should be crucified, it's so piss poor in its design & implementation that it's laughable. And I'm so surprised that none of the sites that reviewed this feature in the pre-release phase didn't mention ANY of the numerous issues.
It's typical EA, 1 step forward 3 steps back. Assignable DPad tactics has been in FIFA for a long time, then sudden gets removed inlieu of TS? You've got to be kidding me here. So I change to long ball to try to switch things up, but there's no method to return to my default or custom tactic? WTF EA. You your brain.
I'd rather eliminate the whole team sheet thing and revert back to '14's tactical system, with only the addition of instructions. At least formations were properly labeled (i.e. the common 4231 is not listed as 451), you could assign specific man marking, DPad tactics were assignable, and the tactics actually seemed to effect gameplay in a recognizable manner.Comment

Re: Tactics?
just trying to think of a work around for when playing against the AI maybe set the team width wider for lesser teams so they use long ball more and cant do triangle passes
EDIT - I changed the shooting for a couple of teams to 80-90 just as a test and it did make a difference to their shot count and they seemed to take a couple from the 18 yard box and instead of cutting back a pass across goal the AI sometimes shots from wide angles which is a bit of a pain since GK are beat pretty easy at the near postLast edited by saintric; 10-03-2014, 08:22 AM.Comment
