You guys are PHD's at this stuff and I'm still in grade school with this stuff, but at default CPU pass error I'm getting some good diversity in play.

      Re: Tactics?

All I've done so far tonight is try to get a team to play short, possession passing on me. It's been a mixed result so far. I just can't get them to slow down so far.

Which makes me think if I go back to playing against a long ball team, maybe they'll at least do that.

Why oh why must this be such a puzzle this year.

        Re: Tactics?

playing a career mode after changing teams tactics in the premier league and I am pretty happy with how they play now

the biggest changer seems to be the line height set to 65 it presses most of the play into midfield and the CPU will try long balls into the far corners or over the top a bit more, I also feel that setting the passing to long and pass creations to risky makes them play short passes over a longer distance and it helps stop the playing tika taka because they play it into the space

          Re: Tactics?

I didn't play any games last night, but will keep messing around with things tonight. The biggest issue is still not being able to make teams slow down and take their time when attacking. It's always a forward pass, even with buildup speed at "1".

It's just like the last few years of PES, where no matter what you do, the AI just pushes forward. Which sucks, as in the last three years of FIFA, you could make the AI play insanely slow.

As of now, as long as I can get a possession team playing differently than a long ball team, I'll be happy. I just wish it was like past years, though. Especially as there are parts of the game I love, such as being fouled by the opposition, and drawing penalties.

Krebstar, what do you have run frequency set at when testing? I maintain lowering that slider is the best way to slow the pace of play and curb the forward at all costs mentality.

I was gonna say and I know you have been making some great tactics over the years and know your stuff but did you set the pass creation to low? doesnt that stop player making forward runs looking for a through ball, maybe set that to real low and see if it makes the AI keep the ball waiting for an opening

All the way down at 0, man.

I know the other way to get the AI to pass laterally and backwards is also to just not give them an option. But damn, it's harder in this year's game to close down passing lanes.

There still might be a trick with line settings to help this. The problem is that when you lower width, it improves some things, but also makes most teams just go towards the wings, since there's tons of space to head down the field.

Honestly, tonight might be when I decide to just throw up the tactic spreadsheet for this year, or just keep having fun with 14 for awhile, haha.

Getting teams to cross is now possible. Long balls...ehhh, here and there. Short, patient build ups that are aggravating to have to defend against? Not so much.

I've tried playing against the AI with build up speed, pass distance, pass risk, and shooting all at "1", and they still just try and get into the box as quickly as possible. It's just...really frustrating this year.

I have the exactly opposite experience this year. Cpu backpasses, crosses, shoots on sight from outside the box, they use triangle passing, they long pass and the most important there is no psychic dribbling at all. I have changed also to Legacy Defending because with this setting my cpu teammates actually tackle and are more aware in D.

Yeah that is also my problem, Buildup speed just doesn't have an effect, or at least any type of consistently dramatic effect even when=1.

The problem is FIFA'15 does so many things better than '14, it would be very very difficult for me to return to '14 just for the purpose of having slower build up play.

What sliders or other settings are you using to get those results? The puzzle to getting the tactics to work has to be in the sliders somewhere....

But you're a PC player, who's using a modded ini file right?

If so, of course you might be seeing drastically different results than us console guys who are stuck with EA's ini file.

I'm on PC so I use Fidel's latest ini alongside my slider tweaks which are on the sliders sections here. My tweaks are minimal because messing with lines will fix some gameplay elements and break some others. Most problems come from the cpu inability to cover the lanes and be aware of human player runs with or without the ball. Same applies with the cpu teammate AI in defense. All these are fixed 99% with the ini strings.

That's right Hutton. It's easy for EA to fix all the problems I've mentioned above as the executable has all the strings encrypted. The same applies for the console versions because architecture is nearly the same.
As I said the biggest problem in vanilla game is that cpu D confuses cover/zonal with marking and vice versa. As D awareness is increased in the ini the problem is less visible especially in Legendary difficulty.

Matt10 was testing that last night as well, though.

The run frequency even at 0 didn't make much of a difference.

I moved my CPU Run Freq=30, it has slowed down the game quite a bit IMO, less frenetic attaching from the CPU.....but I'm not sure that has anything to do with the Buildup speed setting.

Honestly, the best way to slow down the CPU is to play good positional defense (difficult with the putrid AI defending), but it seems improved a bit on legacy defending.
