Whatever design person at EA who thought the whole Team Sheet concept up should be crucified, it's so piss poor in its design & implementation that it's laughable. And I'm so surprised that none of the sites that reviewed this feature in the pre-release phase didn't mention ANY of the numerous issues.

It's typical EA, 1 step forward 3 steps back. Assignable DPad tactics has been in FIFA for a long time, then sudden gets removed inlieu of TS? You've got to be kidding me here. So I change to long ball to try to switch things up, but there's no method to return to my default or custom tactic? WTF EA. You your brain.

I'd rather eliminate the whole team sheet thing and revert back to '14's tactical system, with only the addition of instructions. At least formations were properly labeled (i.e. the common 4231 is not listed as 451), you could assign specific man marking, DPad tactics were assignable, and the tactics actually seemed to effect gameplay in a recognizable manner.
I'd gladly go back to the old system, which includes getting rid of the "instructions". I preferred editing the attack/defense and positioning in the formations like in past years.

And yeah, lowering the pass error slider did not seem to help tactics work at all. Damnit. Part of me is considering trying out FIFA 14 on next gen to play on my brand new PS4. Maybe just updating transfers on that, so I can play with custom tactics. I just might do it!

Yeah, I can't believe all the love people were giving the new Team Sheets in the pre-release review, when in actuality it's a steamy brown turd that is missing so many important features.

      Crap, that's what I feared.

It's sad that FIFA'14 is in consideration here, but I thought the exact same thing. It's just so hard to pass up all the EPL content in '15. I guess I'll just have to live with terrible tactical representation in '15, as long as I can get a viable set of sliders that is fun to play on, and a updated squad that isn't missing 100's of players so I can get on with my CM already.

I loved '14, I don't remember such trouble sussing out sliders to get it to play decent. 15 is unplayable on default sliders, 14 played pretty damn well with minor slider tweaks.

        Re: Tactics?

I almost exclusively play clubs and without a way to make custom tactics it's really frustrating.

Unfortunately I don't foresee anything being fixed.

I also doubt it will be addressed. I think in the past it was a happy accident that we could set how the AI would play, and not something EA focused on providing us.

I'm picking up 14 for PS4 today, though. I want to experience the next gen with custom tactics, and I'll most likely also update the rosters, as I'm a nerd, so look out for that.

            Re: Tactics?

Knowing the CPU plays differently on Legacy Defending, I tried a mega long ball tactic and 50 pass error. Still doesn't make any difference. Yup, the tactics are broken for the CPU.

Well, I went and grabbed 14 for PS4, and of course tactics work. With those, and some sliders, it's a really great game. I'd say it's better than this year's release, actually.

For now, it looks like I'll put in some time on 14, including possibly updating squads.

It such a shame you guys are finding this. There was so much potential with the individual assignments and team sheets etc. It is a shame it doesn't work to alter the way the CPU plays.

                  Re: Tactics?

Is it the same with formations? Like if you adjust a team's formation, including positioning and player instructions, will the CPU just ditch it and stick with the default?

                    Re: Tactics?

There was tons of potential, with each team being able to have their own settings, etc. Just like PES, although it hasn't works in PES in years.

As for formations, they'll "stick" just as custom tactics do, but they most likely just won't have much of an effect on how a team plays. The CPU technically plays with the custom tactics you give them, but other gameplay aspects override them, thus making all teams play very direct, with on the ground passes.

It was so fun to put in some tactics in 14 earlier and have a team smash it long on me, or back pass it, or side to side pass it along their midfield.

Yeah, the games are like night and day. One strange difference I noticed early on: how teams line up defensively on kick offs. In 14 the players line up pretty normally, taking up space pretty evenly, but in 15 the midfielders hug the halfway line, while the back four are in a straight line way, way back.

It's like midfield play and buildup play has been purposely minimized. Reminds of the jump from FIFA 11 to FIFA 12, but in reverse.

I was one of the folks on this site/writing for this site that gave a lot of love to the new sheets/instructions/tactics features but how were we supposed to know they wouldn't work correctly?

I was excited thinking about how we could replicate what we see on tv in terms of the team styles (specifically the cpu) but I guess we shouldn't have given EA the benefit of the doubt.

Nobody reviewing the game early took the time to delve into the Team Sheets. Not one mention was made by anyone (at least that I saw) saying that the ability to set man marking assignments or formation workrates was removed. Not to mention they removed the graphical indicator of how many subs have been used, so when you jump into a weekly highlight match you have no clue how many subs have already been burned.

Like all things EA, Team Sheets looks nice from 50,000 feet and 20 minutes of use, but when you start to dig a little deeper you soon reveal the true turd that it is. That said, the new instructions are nice, at least the ones that work, but everything else is a half baked attempt at innovation.

Be patient Hutton, James (TheLetterZ) has an article coming out soon which was written before a lot of us found out about this issue.

I know I have personally complained about the lack of being to select who you want to come up on set-pieces as well as the ability to do zonal/man marking on them.

Trust, we have a lot of FIFA content coming out within the next few weeks.

We just needed some time to dive into the game.

Set piece control would be lovely, especially considering this is the year 2014. And zonal marking, that's just a crazy concept to ea. I could only dream at this point.
