Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers

Ok thanks for keeping us updated.

Seems like the Ai is still programmed on Demo mode .
Played Leicester twice, first game lost 5-2 on 10 min halfs. Everything Vardy hit went in it was a joke. Next game i turned off Live form and all they did was shoot. 28 shots to my 9. i won 3-1 but only because i think i turned off the live form otherwise it would have been 10-3.

      Not digging this much.
The spacing is awesome i will say.
But thats about it so far.

Anyone played career mode and noticed if teams are actually starting their stars in the starting XI? A

Also, if transfers for non-user teams are better. Like the issue of Man U stockpiling world class strikers.

The problem is it isn't bad. This is obviously a completely subjective thread, and a reason I've normally stopped going into impression threads here, especially EA games cause it's nearly always negative. NHL however deserves bad reviews, fifa doesnt.

Well, when you don’t have EA Access, it’s nice to have some of these guys whose opinions I trust share what they’re experiencing. I’m still getting the game, because I always do, but at least I know a little more about what I’m getting myself into.

Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers

I'm more optimistic about FIFA 18 than I have been about any FIFA in about 4 or 5 years. I probably played less that 20 hours of FIFA 16 and 17 combined. Was basically just fed up and done with it.

I have the Origin version and the X1 version. Playing on Legendary/Default/Assisted/Legacy Defending/8 minutes. I know those setting will turn people off right away, but unlike a lot of other versions of the game, Legendary feels fair this time around.

Regarding assisted passing, it's no where near as automatic and ping pong as you might think. Mainly because on Legendary the CPU defense closes down much better. If I was on World Class or even PRO I would use Semi/Manual.

I've played multiple games on both platforms and don't really notice a difference. What I have noticed more than anything is that each game has been different. I have no idea where this everything is the same comes from. Man United plays different than Stoke and they play different than Inter and Werder Bremen.

I played a game as Roma at Inter and played an 8 minute half and the game was tight both ways but Inter broke through on a screamer from outside the box.

Played at Old Trafford as Stoke and Man United just owned the game. 15 shots in the first half to my 2. 58% possession. I trailed 2-0. The only thing that felt cheap was on their second goal. They fed a through ball to Pogba and I was trying to switch to the closest defender and it never switched to him. Pissed me off but whatever.

Played at Allianz as Bayern against Man United. Completely different story. 1-1 at the half. 6 shots each at half time. Bayern 54% possession. Passing percentages were Bayern 83% Man United 78%.

Southampton (me) vs. Newcastle. 2 bad teams, boring game. Tons of turnover in midfield.

Career Mode Game. European pre-season tournament. Leicester (me)/Werder Bremen. Lost 2-0. They controlled the run of play until I switched tactics. Didn't matter. I couldn't finish. Freaking Vardy hit the post from 3 yards out.

The negatives are the usual, not enough fouls (I've given up on this) and at times it still feels like the game engine decides through cheesy programming who is going to control the run of play. I've always felt like I was playing the game engine instead of an opponent in FIFA. Maybe with a few personal slider changes I'll be able to get this where I want it.

I also think the game speed is a little too fast and attack focused, but it is possible to slow down the CPU, by playing as the CDM and getting off of that useless Tactical Defending option. TD has been a joke since it was implemented. Plus when you use the second defender press...liberally..you may even foul the CPU.

As of now though, my main takeaway and the thing I notice more than anything else is I haven't played two games of the same type. Will I? Of course, but right now I more optimistic than pessimistic.

Well I guess I'll dissent and say that I like F18 very much. Distance shots are too accurate but otherwise I'm enjoying it. The 1st game felt like playing in quicksand but I'm adjusting now and the game is really open and fun. It feels like offense really develops and defensively you'll pay a price for over aggression.

The odd complaint I have is that I swear the graphics look like something on my old 700Mhz Gateway PC that had a 64MB video card. The cutscenes will be stunningly lifelike and then gameplay itself just looks......almost pixelated at times. And I don't have a high end tv so it's not some 4k setting or anything. I'm adjusting to it but it looks odd to me.

Hung up on the loading screen too - right after it says loading hospitality settings. Tried rebooting Xbox One S - didn't help. Anyone find a solution?

Except you don't. Some of what these guys are saying is valid, but some of it just sounds almost like angry PES fanboy nonsense. I played the full 10 hour trial and while it definitely has issues, I absolutely still had an enjoyable time. You have to play it to know what you're getting into. Reading opinions does nothing. Particularly when all they want to do is shove negativity down your throat. All that happens is you go in thinking it's a crap game and that alters your opinion. Anything bad stands out more, anything good is brushed aside because you're seeing red. As most of these guys are. My suggestion: Get EA Access. It's $5.

This is the first year I have had ea access (now own an Xbox,) so I don't know if the day one patch makes a huge difference. Normally day one is my first taste.

I laughed out loud at how different the beta was. Pre season tournament I was playing a 2nd Italian league team (forget who it was.) They had 15 shots at half, 35 at the end of the game.

On pro difficulty, slow, it was like playing against a team of hyperactive monkies. Sprinting around the field, wildly nailing passes to teammates, "I'm 30yds out! Let it rip!"

I'd press the button to change to the nearest defender, Whoop! Ball is somewhere else. In all the years I've played FIFA, I've never EVER experienced anything close. It was a manic gaggle rape of my senses.

I have no idea what to think. I'm utterly shocked and confused like never before after a game of FIFA. Hope it gets better. I have hours left in my ea access. I'm too scared to play it again, LOL!

Not my experience at all. Not sure how you guys keep seeing ridiculous shot numbers. Most I've seen by one team in a match was 12. Most goals scored by one team was 5, when I played the startup match with Real and you're on like rookie or something and destroying them is easy. I played on default world class and majority of games were 2-1, 3-1, 2-2, 1-1, had one 0-0 draw. I'm not sure why my experience is so vastly different than a lot of you guys being so negative. I will say, the AI teams do play roughly the same which is a huge bummer and EA clearly failed (or lied) at implementing custom team tactics. But I'm not seeing these constant sprinting contests with 30 shots a game.

Yeah, I hope I have games like you. I will still buy it because I love FIFA. One thing I'm going to do is find the team I played and look at their team sheet/tactics and see what their shooting is set at, etc. It could be the tweaks they have made to how teams play are too OP. I would actually be happy if that's the case. It will mean tactics actually work, lol.

And I'm not flaming for the sake of flaming. I am genuinely shocked what I experienced.

I understand people's frustrations (that's EA and Konami is not better!), But some users in this have built up this frustration over the years, set yourself free and do something else is my advice. What I do not understand is that it can surprise anyone here that FIFA is not perfect, and rather never gets it, it's a simple yet fun game that takes one step forward and two back. And judging Demo is a waste of time, the same applies to the first-finished version. Let's see what happens after the first patch, and not least what this forum's important element, Slider Thread created by Matt can do.
