Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers

Coming from PES I find myself enjoying the game. Must be because I haven't played FIFA in a while, it gives me a different perspective. Both games are far from perfect tbh as both formums are constantly bagging out the game but as football fans we don't really have much choice these days. At least with FIFA we have sliders and can adjust certain issues.

I enjoy PES as well but the realism of Master League kills it for me. In saying that their players models and faces are way better, hopefully FIFA have another face update to more players out of the Premier League.

Look forward to a career mode in FIFA. At least it has slightly more depth to it.

Before the demo, I really thought youd be able to choose these tactics in the pre match screen. But I found out in the forums here, that its still tied to the custom team tactics. you have to edit the tactics to fit Catenaccio, or possession, or high press.

        Thanks for info
But if that works, it's fine with me. I do not believe in Team ID, even though it would be great, but it's not going to happen with EA's concept.

          FIFA18 just ain't no good
          I think that's well understood
You can see it everywhere you look
          FIFA18 just ain't no good

          FIFA18 ain't no good
          FIFA18 ain't no good
          FIFA18 ain't no good

It ain't that in their hearts EA is bad
They can comfort you, sometimes they try
They bury the game when you try
They'll stick by you if they could
          But that's just bull**** baby
          FIFA18 just ain't no good

Sorry, I could not help with all the negatively charged energy in here.

Career mode is still underwhelming. Especially the sim function. As a manager, odd that they give you no control. You can't substitute, can't change tactics, and you can't interrupt sim to play the rest of the game. Also sim to end function would be nice. Some games 3-0 at half, would be nice to sim to end without forfeiting.

Having said that, I'm not getting much different results from the demo to EA Access version. Both play very similar, and I'm quite pleased with 18 as compared to last years version. My only complaint is passing accuracy across the board (and this is true in PES as well) is just too high and not many mistakes are made, but I am seeing them from the AI on occasion. It just seems like a tough thing to emulate for devs. Also, fouls. I don't think I've played enough games to get a general idea as to how this is going to be long term, but like in PES, just too few, but to be fair, I have seen more fouls both by me and the AI than I do in PES, for sure.

Also, those claiming game is too easy, getting too many shots, AI shooting too much, etc....I am not seeing anything at all like that, and I question whether you're even playing this game.
Sure, let's take impressions with a grain of salt, which also means you need to treat positive reviews the same way. These bigger games with annual releases are gonna get more comments, and people who play these games every year all year know the gameplay like the back of their hand, and they are less likely to spend time praising the graphics or the joy of scoring spectacular goals. IGN will handle that. It's more about if it's really $60 worth of improvements over 17.

Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers

As Don Jon said a couple pages ago, plug in Matt's OS 17 sliders. It does a world of difference. The ping pong is so much less and the speed and momentum are pretty much back from the demo from what I felt. Not quite as extreme but it's at least good again. I thought about doing this in my first game on Wednesday night but went against it because I wanted to see how it played on default. Sadly that was a mistake.

I am sold that sliders will make this game play well. As for my matchup I just did the quick play now with Chelsea vs. Stoke. In the first half we both scored twice in the first 35 mins. No goals the rest of the way. I could tell the players felt more tired as the game went on. They just weren't nearly as quick on the ball. It was actually kind of cool how it worked. Shot statistics were incredibly realistic too. One thing I thought was good to see was that I gave Shakiri way too much space and he made me pay. It was essentially him vs. Luiz and Azpiliqueta. I gave him room though thinking he would take the ball in the box and instead he finessed one in from outside the box. I don't think I've seen that in FIFA before. Normally a guy would always carry the ball into the box and I would easily take it away since I would have two defenders.

I forgot to check Stokes tactics but they played a ton of long balls and lob passes downfield. I'm not sure if that is their tactic but if it is that's at least promising. Anyway, this was a whole different experience then when I quit the other night in complete annoyance of what I was playing.

Career mode makes every year small improvements, but what it really needs is a overhaul. But that's not going to happen. Expect nothing get some should be our motto. If anyone tries to picture one that the improvements they make every year in CM, take a whole year to do, ask their game engine people about what they are doing the rest of the 10 months ?. The focus is somewhere else and has been there for many years. That's what it is if you expect more so prepare for disappointments in 19,20,21 ...........
Believe that Sliders and CTT can make a difference to FIFA18 that I know they can and patch that can go both ways.

EA has put together a beautiful presentation for instant replay, but somewhere along the way has lost touch with the basics of the game. I'd give up all of the kits/faces/stadia/animations/cut scenes for some football fundamentals and a cut rate kit editor. Their focus has been elsewhere, and it has resulted in a visually beautiful product with a hole where the heart should be. The CM folks feel it, the FUT folks feel it, everybody knows its missing.

The good news is that maybe there are enough bits and pieces in the game for the very talented folks on this forum to make something of it. I have no doubt that the people around here can work the problems until we get something close to what we want.

I got a goal direct off a header from a set piece playing as Minnesota United. Game is not realistic at all.

I didn't expect much out of FIFA 18, it has a faster pace but not quite as fast as FIFA 15 but faster than FIFA 17. It's more or less the same as FIFA 17 in many ways aside the presentations.

For now PES 2018 is the better game despite the defense and foul issues.

Yes, it's candyfloss they offer, take it for what it is. And yes, OS Sliders with Matt in the lead will make the game better, but In addition, it is quite sad that people here has to rely to Matt`s magic, the whole foundation is now built on his knowledge (and contribute members too), oh boy what a responsibility!. What I'm saying is that you expect years after years something (big) happens with CM and gameplay, and it will never happen and the sooner you realize it the sooner you will have peace of mind.
I love the game for what it is, not for the impossible dreams it could be.

The line I bolded above, 100%. So much testing has to be done and it takes the OS slider guys hours of time away from actually playing the game for enjoyment.

The thing I will say defending the devs is that is why they put sliders in. The devs will create the game a certain way for who they think their target market is, but allow more sim players to tune it to a better sim. That makes them hit on pleasing as many people as they can. To me, they have to do that or they won't sell copies. It's fair enough to be honest. I'd be willing to bet, OS are a lot of the people who actually use sliders. That is minuscule to how many people buy this game. I know people who know the sport tactically and when I ask them if they use sliders, they tell me no. They don't actually care for a more sim representation. That alone just shows that the vast majority don't use them.

Sliders are one of the good things EA provides in their games to be honest. Obviously there will always be things that people want to make it more sim but aren't fixable via sliders or tactics, but as you said take it for what it is. At the very least Matt and everyone else who helps and provides feedback create a game that is quite good. But yes, it sucks that we have to rely on them to do things. Luckily they take their time to do it for the community.
