Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers
Can I get an opinion from full manual players? I felt fifa started screwing around with full manual, and in '16 it was at it's worst I've ever seen it. Played '17 at my friends house on many occasions and did not like it.
Has manual gotten fair treatment this year?TB Lightning | Liverpool | Panathinaikos | Toronto FC

i also want to know if they removed this weird filter on some stadiums on the final version (origin early access or what it's called) which makes the game looked pretty washed out ...white players looked like they were visiting a tanning saloon a bit too oftenLast edited by TripleJay_X; 09-24-2017, 03:58 AM.Comment

Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers
FIFA 18 Standard Edition has already released in gaming stores of United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Iraq since yesterday September 23, and is around $110
Today, I contacted one of the store owner and he told me that it's available in $100 and I'm gonna buy it today as soon as I finished my workBeen waiting patiently
but it really deserved based on the Demo I played.

Found this on another forum:
"-First of all, when you ask a player on loan, there is no longer an option to put a buy option in the future for him.
-When the market open in January, since FIFA 15-16, you can search players with an ending contract in June of the same year, and negotiate with him to sign him as a free agent. This option is gone! When you put a player in Transfers center in the January transfer window, the game only lets you buy or loan the player, but no option to negotiate with him directly for a transfer in summer."
Anyone who can confirm this? Imo would be a major bug in the carrer mode, always liked the feature to buy players after their contract ended.Comment

Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers
This legacy issue is pissing me off. Your players still insta-retreat when you lose possession.
What is so poor is in the beta your mf’s and fw’s were much more active when the ball was turned over and would press more as a unit.
And then here we are again in the full release with it back the wrong way. If this is anything like when I worked on ncaa then I know why, they juggle multiple builds and you have to coordinate with 6-7 people when you want to update the build. So they could have just easily overwritten the build that had better press and better reactions on turnovers.
What I mean by insta is take a shot, it gets deflected by a defender and the keeper misses it and it hits the post. Go into replay and look how many of your players hop backwards instead of moving towards the loose ball. Most of them will hop back the second it touches the defender.
EDIT well, the game is self-aware.
Just scored a goal in fut draft with Lamela. I shot, it was defelected, hit the post, hit the back of a defenders legs, I kept running with Lamela and first timed it in from an awkward angle, the announcer with the lisp said well everyone was just standing around looking but this lad wasn’t, he just keeps going and that was a well earned goalLast edited by BL8001; 09-24-2017, 03:24 PM.resident curmudgeonComment

Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers
So I've spent two weeks w PES and about 4 hours w FIFA...totally agree w Matt's points so I will not repeat. Seems to me both games have moved closer to each other this year and that's good news.
From my end its important to note how important the use of tatics are this year more so than previous years. The CPU is more varied so I've have to be more thoughtful. Also notice far more use of varied tatics wihtin the game by CPU. Here's an important note because i picked up on this last year with regards to the jump between Professional and World Class.
Folks complained that the contrast between levels was too big and teams on WC would suddenly get very good and become too hard to play against. Here's the thing that was true last year and is greater this year...when you move up levels the CPU implements more agressive attacking levels (i.e. attack/ultra attack). If you do not counter those you're toast. Meaning you can't just sit at default "neutral" level.
Now here's my philosophy on that and it's my one big gripe w BOTH titles. These levels are really named poorly. They really do not apply to attacking or defensive levels but rather they refer to your agression levels. Meaning when you go into a defensive setting players become passive, conversly when you attack they become aggressive. It may seem counterintuative but when you're pinned back you really need to be attacking NOT defending.
So in my opinion its not wise nor useful to use defensive levels at all. I've been sticking with attack/ultra attack and on WC I notice that the CPU is more often in attack mode as well...more so than on professional level. In my opinion that's the biggest difference in the two levels and it leads to confusion on the part of some who suggest teams become too good at WC. Its not that they suddenly become good it's just the CPU is more willing to change tatics.
I've always felt that this aspect is lost on some FIFA folks because the CPU tatics are not displayed on screen like they are in PES. In PES you can see what the CPU is up to...not so in FIFA and I like that...but please be aware it's there. So as you progress through difficulty levels know strategy implementation is key now more than ever.Last edited by roswell0075; 09-24-2017, 02:00 PM.Comment

Yes.
In the demo I felt the same way but so far in this version, no.
I’m hoping for an official day 1 patch to fix this.

After a few games, I was really starting to like FIFA this year. The more I played, the more I think I'm going to pass on this one. My biggest issues with the game are still present.
My biggest issue is the feeling of helplessness. After scoring, or late in games, there are times where the CPU can't be stopped. Which leads into another issue, lower tier teams and players are just as good a top tier. The difficulty you play on shouldn't be the only factor determining how difficult a game is, quality of opponent should too.
Gameplay wise, the players and ball moves way too fast. Players in real life aren't full of sprinting the whole game. There are periods where they can stand with the ball to determine their next move.
Having spent just as much time with PES, I'm going that route for now. At the end of the day, PES still seems more unpredictable and fair. I really wanted to like FIFA more because presentation and atmosphere are top notch. It's not that PES isn't without it's faults, but it's just more fun.Comment

Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers
Forgot I had Origin Access. Downloading now. What a nice surprise.
Also, PS4 preload d/l took like five hours, and the Origin trial is on schedule to finish in 42 minutes. Will Sony ever do something about their online infrastructure?
EDIT: Played two games, Arsenal v Tottenham, and Lincoln Red Imps vs Forest Green. Legendary full manual. I'd say my overall impression is that it plays like a much more refined version of 17, but some of those refinements mark a significant improvement. I think the thing that stood out to me the most was that even on legendary I no longer felt like the AI had the same dubious advantage in physical encounters and aerial play. The outcome of interactions felt a lot less binary than in the past. There were many times where the cpu attempted to tackle me and didn't actually win the ball, or I won it back, and things got a little scruffy. It's not exactly a detailed impression, but I just got the sense, and saw a lot more things happen all over the pitch. To the point that my FIFA 17 instincts would kick in thinking possession was lost, or I was about to lose possession, but retained the ball, or was still in the fight.
I'd say the default pass speed, pass error, and first touch feel a little too high at default. The game speed on slow also seems a bit too fast for my tastes. Manual passing is different than the demo, it's not as slow on the low end of the power bar, and feels like FIFA 17, but I also feel like there is more fidelity in the manual aspects as far as placing the ball goes.
Shooting feels too accurate and op in general—especially for low rated players.
Another thing that stood out to me in both games was how each team actually played within their formation, and how my players actually adhered to the tactics. CDM's actually stayed back! When I was Lincoln, my two forwards didn't come back to help at all.
It was hilariously fun playing old dinosaur hoofball to Matt Rhead, and watching him absolutely bully Forest Green's defense. Two banks sat back and the two forwards stayed high up the pitch. It was ugly football, but everyone was where they were supposed to be. I haven't seen my team be that structured in a FIFA game before.
As I said above, I feel like physical encounters are more even, or perhaps more accurately reflect physical mismatches. Matt Rhead's (at 233lbs) holdup play was dominant compared to anyone else I tried to shield or muscle defenders with. He sure didn't do much moving in the match though. I regret not screenshotting the heatmap.
Defending is much more challenging, and way more about maintaining shape, knowing when to totally lay off LS, and when to close the gap for a challenge. I feel like in the past I could be lazy and really just focus on the man on the ball and any immediate threats, but now it really helps to take a wider peak around and try to figure out what's going on. I think the midfield help when there are several players threatening the backline is a bit lacking. They seem too adherent to their formation assignment in these situations. I almost feel like people are going to be using an out and out sweeper in front of their backline this year.
I also didn't feel as much AI passivity in general. It was especially noticeable with the higher rated players in the Premier League match. In the past I'd have control of my defender behind a man, but I just felt unable to jump in front to pickoff an undercooked pass. In these games I saw players jumping their mark and picking these out and it was a glorious way to start a counter.
Saw a pretty well choreographed free kick from the cpu I hadn't seen before. They can still go into their berserker mode in which their input reading tightens to tiny margins, but overall I did think player differentiation was significant and noticeable, especially the difference in having to contain Spurs compared to Forest Green.
Goalkeepers feel way too weak/stupid this year. I think the chip shot is going to be hugely op once it gets widely discovered.
Can't wait to see what the community sliders come up with. I'm going to sim a couple years in career mode and see what kind of starting XI clubs are putting out, and if anyone is stockpiling world class players at single positions.Last edited by bad_philanthropy; 09-24-2017, 11:01 PM.Comment

Re: FIFA 18 trial is available now for EA Access subscribers
I started an EFL Championship career with Sunderland. I decided to edit the stadium names for teams without licensed stadiums. Once again this year this function does not work. This is like 4-5 years in a row this function does not bloody work!

Worked for me last 5 years... if you change the stadium names, you have to pick "individual squad" (or whatever it is named in English) when creating the career mode. If you choose "default squad" or "download" (again, no idea about the English terms - just the other 2 options) your names won't be in the game anymore.Comment

Don't forget to choose "Current Customised" when selecting the rosters for the Career Mode.
I do it every year. It works.Comment
