Re: FIFA 21 Next-gen update now out on Xbox Series S|X (And PS5 Now Too)

    Playing on Series X...

I actually prefer the gameplay on ne. xt-gen. I'm not sure if it's placebo but the ball seems to move differently and the game plays a little slower/tighter.

I hope there is day 1 patch coming as I think this version is playing off an old version of FIFA, at least for career mode. One of the patches on previous gen introduced randomization of youth academy player gear (i.e. long sleeves, different boots, etc...) and this doesn't seem to be present on next-gen. I suspect many of the bugs that were present at launch on previous-gen that were later fixed may still be in next-gen. This kind of sucks.

I also haven't seen any of the kid mascots in-game. I've tried FA Community Shield, EPL and UCL (all in career mode).

Anyways, game is nice "free" upgrade, hopefully they can update career mode, so it is par with last-gen.

edit: training injuries are still in CM and iirc this was taken out in one of the patches. I actually like this feature, so I'm not too bothered by it but it does suggest CM fixes/patches are missing.

First impressions are that it looks gorgeous. Between the new camera and enhanced visuals for the crowds and player scans when they show closeups it looks very life like.

I’ve enjoyed the games I’ve played so far. Much more so than last gen.

Saw a couple comments about the ball... I noticed something different as well. It might be entirely visual and be related to being able to see rotation/spin with more clarity. But I saw a few instances where it seemed to come off the foot with more natural action based on how it was struck. Again, might be entirely visual fidelity, but they did put out a tweet about ball impact effects that showed Haaland's foot meeting the ball (and the ball deforming at impact) so perhaps there's tech involved that wasn't there before. Seems like a stretch but I saw a few slices and flubs from awkward positions that looked more lifelike than last gen.

Can someone check to see if the Adidas All-Star Team issue is on the PS5 version with those players not showing up in the Club Transfers? I know it got fixed in the PS4 version but just wanted to make sure

Did we ever get information about whether fatigued players result in heavier triggers on PS5?

Have they added any goal keeper animations?

Haven’t seen any new ones but tbh I’ve only played a few matches.

They’re still suspect at the near post from what’ve seen so far

Anyone else think the frame rate is a bit choppy on PS5?

Also 'Tele' camera view doesn't have shadows which makes it unplayable as you can't sense depth etc..

(Preface: I didn't play a lot of 20 and skipped 21 entirely before next gen, so my impressions may be a bit skewed toward the experience feeling newer than many of yours.)

Very impressed so far. The lighting and crowds in the opening cinematic jumped out first as being substantially better than current gen FIFA. Subtle "little things" like bubbles floating over the pitch well after kickoff for West Ham add a lot to the uniqueness of certain stadiums.

Player models (minus lighting) don't seem a ton different than PC on Ultra settings, but star player faces look absolutely stunning, even on MLS teams.

I'm not a huge fan of gameplay running at 60 FPS and all off-ball cutscenes (even ones running at real time) locked to 30. It's a strange stylistic choice that is even more noticeable on next-gen than it ever was on PC and PS4/XB1. Madden has this same issue and it's absolutely jarring.

Gameplay itself, at least to me, isn't the massive leap forward I expected but it still feels new and fresh in some ways. This is very much a FIFA game even if it's been refined in certain areas.

I'm convinced the children walking out with the players may only be for the opening cinematic. Haven't seen it again since, but, as an OS'er above also said, the cutscenes before the match look really cool. I just don't know if any stadiums other than Anfield get any detailed exterior shots. Didn't see any for Vancouver, West Ham or Real Madrid.

Overall, this still feels next gen to me, even if it's the same type of refinement we saw from PS4's FIFA 14. That, to me, isn't a bad thing. I don't see any gamebreaking flaws so far, and the graphics seem to look as good as the "next gen teaser" EA released earlier this summer (not so much with Madden). The PS5 controller feedback is really nice, especially while defending after chasing down an attacker.

As I said in the Madden impressions thread, this generation will live and die by the amount of effort EA wants to put in. More work needs to be done to push this hardware to the limit, and I have my doubts that EA actually wants to do it with the Ultimate Team money coming in. This is a solid start, but this series (and Madden, and NHL) needs to innovate over the next 8ish years, no excuses.

So what is it like playing with 2 bottom of the barrel League 2 teams. Is all the fancy presentation gone? What about non scanned players.

Are the prematch cutscenes specific to different teams, game modes or big match-ups? I didn’t notice anything different in a quick “Kick Off” match with Arsenal. Same old entrance into Emirates Stadium as current gen. I haven’t had a chance to mess around with Career or Tournament modes. Seems only a few teams (namely Liverpool) got the next-gen treatment. Am I missing something, or do I need to just keep playing?

Yeah the intros are only specific to a few big clubs. I think because Arsenal is a PES partner they got the shaft in FIFA.

I’ve seen the intro in Liverpool, Milan(s), and Real.

Kinda upset Dortmund didn’t have it .

I played a Football League 2 game between Leyton Orient and Morcambe earlier. Some generic player faces look better than others, but many of them, as well as the generic stadia, are showing their age on the new hardware. The generic faces thankfully don't look awful but can be kinda jarring if a generic/generated player is alongside top flight players or superstars. This is true of one of the PSG defenders in the opening game.

The presentation elements thankfully aren't all barebones on the lower flight teams in Kick Off mode. Football League 2 had a few of its own production flourishes and league-specific commentary but the generic stadiums didn't offer anything in the way of special advertisements on the LED boards or any real pageantry.

I think each league has its own broadcast package, which is nice, even if some of the lower tier leagues are recolored/reskinned versions of the generic EA Sports package. In some ways, it makes reaching international competitions or getting a bigger contract in Career even more rewarding when the big clubs get so many perks.

FIFA is definitely more authentic to the big teams and leagues, however. The feeling after scoring a goal in the Bernabeu is off the charts, and, like I said, seeing flourishes like bubbles in the air in London Olympic Stadium before and during kickoff is awesomely unexpected.

The coolest thing I saw in the generic stadiums during my time playing in the lower leagues were a ton of stewards, wearing flourescent orange, standing in the aisle separating the home and away cheering sections. I've never seen that in previous games. Pleasantly surprised at the substantial upgrades made to crowds.
