    HAPPY NEW YEAR!
    Spoiler

    AD Alcorcon - '20-'21 Season
    December/January Update

    League Match 16
AD Alcorcon - Celta Vigo (2-2)
    Morientes 16'
    Calle Ochoa 65'
    Farago 67'
    Aguirre 89'

Recap: Gotta be honest here, couldn't help but sort of smile after Aguirre scored a beautiful chip shot over Bonilla. You see, Aguirre is an Alcorcon academy product that was sold to Celta a couple of seasons ago because there was a logjam at his position (LM) and he kept ending as the odd man out. But the Peruvian had potential to be special and he's obviously continued to develop (was at 71 OVR when sold for just under $2 million). So yeah, bitter-sweet result here. At least we were able to score twice against our former goalie (Ulreich).

CL - Group Stage, Match 6
    Liverpool - AD Alcorcon (3-1)
    Coady 6'
    Morientes 37'
    Coutinho 43'
    G. Ramirez 82'

Recap: Welp, so much for revenge, Liverpool beat us by the exact same score the beat us the first time around and pretty much outplayed us again no matter how hard we tried. They make our defense look like crap. With this loss we would depend on whether Sporting won by a significant goal difference to find out whether we would move on as 2nd place from our group.

    League Match 17
Rayo Vallecano - AD Alcorcon (0-3)
    Lopez 36'
    Correa 50'
    Lopez 83'

Recap: Pleased to beat an opponent that always gives us fits, must be the Madrid thing. Lopez is putting himself among the league leaders in goals.

    League Match 18
AD Alcorcon - Getafe CF (2-1)
    Johansen 32'
    Lopez 35'
    Knoll 90+'

Recap: Phew, what a scare. Getafe got on the board first when a clear out by their keeper bounced in front of and over our last line of defense to the feet of a streaking Johansen who rocketed a left-footed shot from just outside the box to put the visitors ahead. Lopez evened it up just minutes later but our attempts to go ahead kept coming short throughout this game until Knoll, coming in as a sub in the last 10 minutes, outjumped 2 defenders on a corner kick to head the ball to the back of the net on what would be the last significant play of the game. 3 points are better than 1.

Copa Del Rey - Round of 32, 2nd Leg
Sporting Gijon - AD Alcorcon (1-3, 1-4 agg)
    Juan Muniz 18'
    Correa 32'
    Farago 45'
    Lopez 45+'

Recap: props to Gijon for giving it everything they had, when they scored that goal they put even more pressure on us, but eventually our superior talent made all the difference and the second half was spent mostly keeping the score the way it was. We move on to the Round of 16.

Copa Del Rey - Round of 16, 1st Leg
AD Alcorcon - RCD Mallorca (1-2)
    Nsue 7'
    Lopez 11'
    Erik 19'

Recap: Mallorca shocked us with an aggressive approach during the whole game which also suffocated our attack. They put themselves in great position to advance if we don't make some serious noise in the 2nd leg.

    JAN
Copa Del Rey - Round of 16, 2nd Leg
RCD Mallorca - AD Alcorcon (2-2, 4-3 agg)
    Nsue 4'
    Correa 15'
    Erik 34'
    Correa 70'

Recap: And after two consecutive Copa Del Rey Titles we are bounced from the cup this season before even reaching quarter finals. Nsue and Erik were once again the enforcers for a Mallorca team that deserves a lot of props for executing two nearly perfect games. Our best player tried his best to ruin the party for the hosts but in the end we were unable to get the one more goal we needed to move on. Unfortunately for Mallorca they would go on to be eliminated by Sevilla in the next round.

    League Match 19
Atletico Madrid - AD Alcorcon (1-2)
    Lopez 23'
    Farago 41'

    Taïder 77'

Recap: It was nice to get back on a track against a tough opponent, though Taïder's goal gave us a bit of a scare. Lopez continues to keep himself among the league leaders in goals.

    League Match 20
AD Alcorcon - Real Betis (3-0)
    Farago 31'
    Farago 48'
    Imada 87'

Recap: I don't think many Betis fans have good thoughts for us after we beat their team twice by a combined 8-1 score. The great form by Alessandro Farago may have lead to an interesting event in this transfer window ...

    League Match 21
Celta Vigo - AD Alcorcon (2-2)
    Aguirre 45'
    Miguel 56'
    Lopez 68'

    Jimenez 73'

Recap: Admittedly I smiled again when Aguirre scored but I wasn't smiling at the end of this one in a game where we outshot Celta 14 to 3, 7 to 3 on shots on goal. Missing out on these points is likely going to come back to bite us when we don't win the league.

    League Match 22
AD Alcorcon - RCD Espanyol (1-1)
    Morientes 26'
    Berko 82'

Recap: Wasn't able to put away a team trying to get out of the relegation zone, a team that also beat us earlier this season. When you take a look at my games against Espanyol and Celta I missed out 9 (NINE!) points. It's going to take a hell of a second half to the season to not have that hurt.

    Liga BBVA Standings
    1. Real Madrid - 50pts
    2. Sevilla FC - 46pts
    3. Valencia CF - 45 pts
    4. FC Barcelona - 44pts
    5. AD Alcorcon - 42pts
    6. Real Sociedad - 39pts

    7. Atletico Madrid - 38pts
    8. Athletic Bilbao - 37pts
    9. RC Deportivo - 36pts
    ...
    18. RCD Espanyol - 17pts
    19. Getafe CF - 13pts
    20. Real Valladolid - 13pts

    CL Standings, Group F
    1. Liverpool - 6pts - 18pts*
    2. AD Alcorcon - 9pts (+3 GD)*

    3. Sporting CP - 9pts (0 GD)
    4. FC Basel - 0pts

I know it's short-sighted but going back to the points I left on the table against Celta and Espanyol ... I'd be in 1st place if I had taken care of business against those two. 8 points back with 16 games to play isn't too bad but we can't keep missing out on points like that. This is putting us in position for must-win games against Barca and Real Madrid which isn't a great scenario. As predicted at least one of the big two is starting to break away from the pack and the 5-point difference between 1st and 9th place 2 months ago is now a 14-point gap. It'll be just 3 league games for us next month against Getafe, Rayo, and Bilbao. Luckily Sporting was unable to put a beatdown on Basel so we move on to the next round in Champions League. Our opponent in the Round of 16 will be: Chelsea, who beat us twice in the group stage last season. Oh those English teams keep giving me problems (ironic considering what I'm doing with Dagenham in my other CM).

Lost among all of this may be the fact that Juan Morientes has SHINED at RM replacing the injured Badile Salawu and it's likely that he has earned the starting gig at this point. After all he's an elite prospect and he's been showing it on the field. His only knock is lacking the statmina to play a full 90 minutes but we're hoping he'll continue to develop that. Salawu will very much remain a part of the rotation in our midfield when he comes back from injury (broken tailbone, out about 3 more months).

This time of the year also brought the winter transfer window in which some moves were made, as listed below:

TRANSFERS OUT: Bart Gorter (CAM, 72 OVR), loaned to AJax for the rest of the season. Patrick Sobiech (CDM, 71 OVR), loaned to RCD Espanyol for the rest of the season. Franco Flores (CB, 74 OVR), sold to Atletico Madrid for $2.5 million. Moritz Parker (ST, 68 OVR), loaned to Cordoba CF for the rest of the season. Nicola Lancini (LB, 75 OVR), included as part of a deal. In Sung Jo (RB, 76 OVR), included as a part of a deal.

TRANSFERS IN: Yerson Candelo (RB, ?? OVR), agree to pre-contract for 2 years and $20K wages. Cristian Ramirez (LB, 76 OVR), purchased from Düsseldorf for $2.3 million + Lancini. Mattia De Sciglio (RB, 85 OVR), purchased from Chelsea for $17.5 million + Jo.

Quick notes on these moves: loans for youngsters are obvious. Flores wanted to be part of a rotation at CB that we simply don't need at the moment. He wasn't happy being part of a B team that is being used less this season and wanted out. We have a lot of young talent at the position so good riddance. The agreement with Candelo is just an opportunity to bring in more competition for the backup RB job. He'll battle with McDermott next pre-season and the loser will most likely be sold. On the surface Ramirez may not seem like much of an upgrade over Lancini (only +1 on the OVR), but he brings elite speed and crossing to the position as well as better defending so he's definitely an upgrade. De Sciglio of course is the big acquisition here (and the guy both I referred to when talking to Simp and Keano), he's a top of the line upgrade at RB replacing the departing product academy (Jo) who was great for us but wasn't an elite prospect. These moves should both strengthen our defense and aid our offense. The only other significant event during this transfer window was the near-sale of Alessandro Farago. Palermo came in offering a significant amount of money for him and we countered with a high number ($40+ million) which they accepted. HOWEVER, days later Palermo informed us that Farago was unwilling to leave Spain because he loves it here and as such the deal was off the table. Bizarre, bizarre turn of events. We were ready to turn our profit right back into the acquisition of Rodrigo Villalva (you can read more about him towards the end of my previous update on the Argentina section - pg 814) or at worse promote Maximilian Knoll to a starter. Fortunately Farago understands that it was all business and there are no hurt feelings and we continue to move forward with the same goals.

As far as our academy is concerned we continue to track player progress. Here's the youth squad:
    • Victor Jimenez (CM, 66-70 OVR, 86-92 POT): 17-year old from Spain described as an attacker. We're hopeful that he'll stick in the academy for the full season in order to give himself a better chance to be an impact player for us right away. A special talent.
    • Mansour Haron (CB, 49-51, 85-91): 16-year old from Saudi Arabia who is physically strong, and when I say he's physically strong I mean that he's 6'6" and 198lbs. Oh yeah.
    • Jacob O'Neill (RB, 53-57, 84-90): 16-year old from Australia who will more than likely play inside at CB due to his size (6'2") and lack of speed. He's described as defensive minded.
    • Victor Velazquez (CAM, 62-66, 83-89): 17-year old Spanish prospect who reminds us of a young Leandro Paredes or Angel Correa. We want to keep him in the academy for another season.
    • Jesus Aurello (ST, 53-57, 81-87): 16-year old from Mexico recently settled in as a striker. Described as technically gifted.
    • Wasl Al Harbi (RB, 47-51, 80-86): 17-year old from Saudi Arabia who also projects as more of a CB due to his size (6'2") and lack of speed. He's also described as defensive minded.
    • Luis Martinez (ST, 50-54, 77-83): 16-year old from Mexico who is described as technically gifted. We seemed to have over-projected his potential initially.
    • Cameron Jones (LB, 47-51, 76-82): 16-year old from Australia who will also be playing inside due to lack of speed mostly. We'll see if we can develop him into a CDM/CB dual player.
    • Victor Jimenez (CM, 58-62, 74-80): 17-year old from Venezuela who is a defensive-minded midfielder. He needs to remain in the academy for now but we're not sure he'll want to stay in it for another full season given his age.
    • Johnny Wilson (CF, 54-58, 74-80):16-year old from England who scouts compare to Farago. We're hoping he'll stick with the academy for another full season.
    • Diego Rodriguez (ST, 48-50, 74-80): 16-year old from Mexico described as technically gifted. He projects as more of a sub for us but we're still hoping to speed up his development.
    • Julio Gutierrez (LW, 53-57, 73-79): 16-year old from Spain who brings some speed to the pitch. He's settled at LW which is a great fit for him but he showed very little improvement in the academy last season so another full year here would be the best for him.
    • Mohammed Almeshaugeh (CB, 38-40, 72-78): 16-year old from Saudi Arabia described as physically strong. Another defender standing at 6'2" but he's really raw right now so a lot of development in the academy would be key for him.
    • Francisco Miguel (CF, 51-55, 71-75): 16-year old from Spain described as technically gifted but needs to remain in the academy for at least one more season.
    • Damon Elliot (CF, 51-55, 70-74): 16-year old from England who projects as a speedy attacker. His best shot at being a long-term consideration for us is to stay in the academy for one more season.

    * Denotes recent addition to the academy.

Current Roster (* Denotes player graduated from the youth academy):

    Spoiler

No games with Argentina these last 2 months (qualifiers will resume this month) so that's all for now (and for this year!). See ya!

Jagger, congratulations on the new job. I was shocked to see Fulham at the bottom of the league table but I'm sure you'll turn everything around. Eleven million is a lot of money and you van sign some good players with that money. You also have Patrick Roberts who is a gem.

Chico, that sounds unfair. It wasn't your fault that the other guys were bad at their job. Maybe you won it so often because you were young on positive unlike the older employees. But hey, at least you got free burgers.

Rabbit, a good month there. You are still very close to the top two and I think you will finish there. I haven't used De Sciglio on Fifa 14 but on 15 he is my favourite right back.

Happy New Year! Here it's already 2015 but some of you have to wait ten more hours. I feel so special right now. Anyway, hopefully 2015 will be productive and successful for all of you!

Simppu I was suprised too when I saw Fulham where last. I hope to build my team around Roberts however, at the moment he is really weak and not that fast. Also his work rates aren't the best being Med/Med I prefer High/Med but I should make do.

Rabbit, Average month. 8 points is doable. You could've gotten 40mill! Imagine the upgrades you could've done with that. Good you still have him though.

              TOON TO THE TOP
              SEASON 1
              PS4

              Match 28

              Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United
              Perez 82
We got the win in this big game very late on in the match, substitute Ayoze Perez knocking home the only goal of the game. He had already drummed against the post when R. Taylor beat Rafael and played the ball back to Perez to slot into the top left hand corner.

              Match 29

              Everton 0-3 Newcastle
              Oliveira 12
              Oliveira 33
              Oliveira 59

That's more like it from Oliveira. He opened the scoring, getting his first goal for the club on the counter attack. Everton's corner was cleared to Nelson who beat Jagielka and sprinted away to curl into the bottom corner. He made it 2-0, knocking in through Howard's legs from a hard and low ball in. In the second half, he completed his hat-trick, Ameobi unselfishly squaring the ball to him for an easy tap in.

              Match 30

              Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal
              Aarons 55
A very tight game in which the only goal came from our young left winger. He cut inside, beating Debuchy and curled into the far corner. Ronaldinho came close, hitting the post from a curling effort from just outside the box but the standout performance came from Begovic who made 7 saves in the game, and most were very good ones.

              Match 31

              Sunderland 0-2 Newcastle
              Ronaldinho 57 (PEN)
              Ronaldinho 60 (PEN)

A good win in the Tyne-wear derby, Ronaldinho getting both goals from the spot. Cabella won the first penalty being barged down just inside the box and Ronnie smashed it into the top left hand corner. Then, Ronaldinho himself won the next penalty, tackling O'Shea and running clear before O'Shea came in from behind with a rash tackle. Ronnie went to the other side this time with the same result.

              League Table

              1. Spurs 61
              2. Manchester City 60
              3. Manchester United 58
              4. Newcastle 58
              5. Chelsea 56
              6. Everton 55
              -----
              18. Leicester 29
              19. Burnley 27
              20. Southampton 26

              Thoughts

Looking good. In the top 4 in the league, but Chelsea have a game in hand. Even so, who'd of thought we'd be in this position, fighting for Champions League football after our first 3 months. Hell, even I though I'd be in for a relegation scrap but the win against Chelsea started our season really back in December. They were the league leaders at the time and we were sitting down in the bottom 5. The new signings helped a lot as well, significantly Ronaldinho, Begovic and Toure. In fact, Asmir hasn't conceded yet. The games since January that we have conceded in have had Alnwick in goal. Absolutely incredible stats there.

                SEASON 1
                PS4

                Match 32

                Liverpool 0-0 Newcastle
Some would say we dropped points in this match, I would say we gained one. Liverpool absolutely dominated this match forcing many fine saves from Begovic. They also defended valiantly and their performance makes me wonder how they are only in ninth.

                Match 33

                Newcastle 1-2 Spurs
                Riviere 3
                Soldado 29 (PEN)
                Paulinho 58

Begovic's streak is over. We took an early lead, a beautiful pass allowing Riviere to run onto the ball and curl into the top corner. However, we conceded, a strange occurrence, to a Soldado penalty chipped down the middle after Paulinho was brought down by Collocini. Paulinho then won it in the second half, smashing in from the edge of the box, hard and low. Their display explained why they are league leaders.

                Match 34

                Newcastle 1-0 Swansea
                De Jong 34 (PEN)
Playing our reserves in this tie, the only goal came from the penalty spot when De Jong stepped up to take the penalty in which he won himself. Other than that it was a pretty drab affair.

                League Table

                1. Spurs 65
                2. Everton 65
                3. Manchester City 64
                4. Manchester United 62
                5. Newcastle 62
                6. Chelsea 58
                -----
                18. Leicester 33
                19. Crystal Palace 31
                20. Burnley 28

                Thoughts

Things are heating up in the battle for Europe. West Brom have realistically been eliminated from the race at last, as have Arsenal but Chelsea's game in hand is scaring me. I can't afford to drop points in the last 4 games of the season. United are just above me with 1 goal advantage in goal difference. I think the team most likely to slip up are Everton and I do hope they do. Watch out for the last 4 games!

                    EXE - van Nieff 35', 69', Ridehalgh 45', Wilson 90'
                    SHU - Flynn 16'

Flynn brought down a ball that was played over the top and finished past the keeper to put Sheffield United ahead. Yoell van Nieff then dribbled from left to right in the box before striking a shot just inside the right post. Ridehalgh attacked from the left wing moving inside working his way to the middle of the box before firing it past the keeper. Yoell van Nieff then added a second after he lined up a free kick and struck it perfectly into the top left corner. Wilson then received the ball on the left wing and attacked the goal beating the keeper for his 30th league goal of the season and beginning the League Trophy ceremony.

Antonio Lopes (Mexico) 15 years old 59-63 OVR 76-82 POT
-Antonio Lopes has the potential to be a solid defender, and favors to play in the center of the back line. At 15 his 5'6" frame still has room to grow, his final height could make him a great candidate for the middle of the defense.

Carl Little (Northern Ireland) 17 years old 59-63 OVR 74-80 POT.
                    - Carl Little has stepped up for the youth team playing as a center back. The 16 year old hit his growth spurt that the youth doctors were expecting and now stands at 6'1" giving him a bright future in the center of the defense.

Jay Holmes (England) 16 years old 74-80 OVR 88-94 POT.
-Jay Holmes has the look of something special. His technical abilities are far beyond his age and enable him to be extremely effective in the CAM role of the midfield. He is no doubt one to keep an eye on moving forward.

Josh Meenan (Northern Ireland) 16 years old 58-62 OVR 72-78 POT.
                    - The young boy from Northern Ireland has natural talents at keeper. His growth spurt put him towering well above 6 feet and will be one to watch in the future as he looks to impressive the manager of both club and country.

Rafael Lopez (Mexico) 15 years old 56-60 OVR 71-75 POT.
-Rafael looks like he will settle on the left side of the midfield where he spends the majority of his time on the youth squad. His main attributes are in pace and the coaches are hoping that his technical abilities will catch up in time.

Xabi Rodriguez (Mexico) 16 years old 69-73 OVR 89-94 POT.
-Xabi at just 15 from Mexico already shows a lot of promise. He is a natural playmaker who prefers playing as an attacking midfielder. He can make things happen when he has the ball, and his future at Exeter holds no limits.

                    Yoell van Nieff

Yoell van Nieff takes home the final Exeter Player of the Month award with his two goal performance in the final league match of the season. The highlight was his beatiful free kick that has become his signature since joining the club.

                    Press Conference

Q: Congratulations on officially being presented the trophy for the Football League Championship. An absolutely stunning season, but one that you are no doubt proud of. How do you think this club will perform in the Premier League next season?

A: Thank you, this is a special moment for the club to achieve this promotion. We are now joining the best league in the world, and it will be a challenge unlike any we have ever faced. Our goal is to remain competitive and in time hopefully we can turn into a club that teams will fear on their schedule.

Q: A heart breaking loss in the F.A. Cup final against Tottenham. Their talent proved to be just too much in the end as they were able to run away with it late. What can you say about this cup run that led you to this final?

A: It was tough losing that match, especially after we had grown so used to winning these types of matches. I'm afraid that our wins made us overconfident, and that is a trait that is almost always fatal for a club. This is a good eye opener, and I think it is good to have this kind of reality check before moving on to the Premier League next year. We won't take any match for granted.

Q: You have several promising young talents in your academy, and should be getting some money for your promotion to the Premier League. Can we expect to see changes moving into next season? Or will you try to keep the core you have now together and see where it takes you?

A: There will certainly be some promotions from the academy. Now that the season is over I have time to evaluate each player and see who will be ready to contribute with the senior team next year. As far as the transfer market goes, that all remains to be seen. While we should get a boost in funds, I have to wait to see exactly how much. It also all depends on who is available and how I rate them. Nothing is guaranteed.

End of season review will be the next update from me with player evaluations.

Penazerr would be awesome, but the immature self in me finds that that also sounds very close to something a little inappropriate.... But still funny. Maybe Penomas. We still need to give you an Afro though. Do you have have Afros unlocked?
You can change the name to whatever you want (in the lines that EA allows me to change it). I don't have the large afro but I have the giant one, which is better, so if you want me to change it, I can.

                          Everton 2-1 Arsenal

                          EVRTN - Pienaar 44' Barkley 69'
                          ARSNL - Giroud 42'

                          MOTM:Barkley

An excellent performance from the lads and we deserved the 3 points. Barkley was outstanding and so were Coleman and Baines who both got assists. Overall a fantastic performance.

                          Match 9

                          Manchester United 4-2 Everton

                          EVRTN - Eto'o 12' 78'
                          MAN U - Van Persie 45' 52' 67' , Rooney 90'

                          MOTM:Van Persie

The scoreline does not reflect the true nature of the game. A couple of lucky goals for them enabled them to snatch the points, and we deserved at least a point. I suppose you get games like that in a season and we're looking to bounce back in the next match

                          Match 10

                          Everton 4-3 Aston Villa

                          EVRTN - Naismith 30' , Barkley 34' 45' , McGeady 45+3'
                          VILLA - C. Sanchez 53' , Benteke 82' (PEN) 90'

                          MOTM:Barkley

Injury:Barkley, Medial Collateral Ligament - out 4 months

Leaking too many goals. 4-0 up at half time and we only win 4-3. The lads switched off in the 2nd half and it nearly cost us. However the win came at a cost, with Barkley damaging ligaments ruling him out for up to 4 months.

                          Match 11

                          Burnley 1-2 Everton

                          EVRTN - McGeady 9' , Kone 45'
                          BRNLY - Ings 61'

                          MOTM:Kone

Another tough match, with an excellent 1st half display from the lads but a poor 2nd half. Our 2nd halves seem to be letting us down and we need to sort that out. Got the 3 points but against bigger teams we won't be so lucky.

                          Match 12
                          Everton 2-2 Arsenal
AET: Arsenal win 5-4 on penalties

                          EVRTN - Eto'o 3' , Mirallas 30'
                          ARSNL - Giroud 33' , Monreal 80'

                          MOTM:Eto'o

A good performance that on another day might've been enough to see us through. It's always a bad feeling to lose on penalties but we'll bounce back and kick on in the F.A Cup and the league.

September Player Of The Month:Ross Barkley

It was a close call between Eto'o and Barkley but without Barkley we wouldn't have had the chance to get in to score goals. The month was excellent for him, and he was in great form, until he damaged his Medial Collateral Ligaments which sidelines him for up to 4 months.

Current starting XI taking into account injuries

Manchester United's winning streak in the Champions League continued against the minnow of the group Anderlecht who don't have a single point. The first half was surprisingly even but in the second half Man United scored the two goals that decided the game. The Portuguese winger Nani scored the first ten minutes after the beginning of the second half by cutting in from the left and curling the ball into the bottom right corner. Ten minutes before half time Javier Hernandez scored the second from a counter attack.

After the first game between these two teams ended in a smashing 6-1 victory for Man United they were expected to beat the German side convinsingly again. This didn't happen and Leverkusen even controlled the game time to time, even hitting the crossbar twice. At the end Chicharito's goal five minutes before half time decided the game. He received a pass inside the box and curled the ball into the top right corner of the net.

                              Player of the Month

                              Javier Hernandez

Surprisingly Karim Benzema didn't have a great month in November. Then again none of ManU's players had. It was tough picking someone better than everyone else but Javier Hernandez had a good month, scoring a couple goals and assisting one more. The Mexican hasn't had the best start to the season with Karim Benzema being in the spotlight but he performs consistently.

You were unbeaten in November and your lead increased to six points. Are you happy about this month?

If you think about it that way it went really well but I don't think like that. Yes, we were unbeaten and we won all of our games but we faced the weakest team in our Champions League group, a good team and some bottom table teams. I'm not glad about how even a lot of the games were but like you said the difference between us and City is now six points. The pressure is on them and we have an easy next month.

You also beat Blackburn in the Capital One Cup quarter final. Do you want to win the competition?

Yes, of course I want to win it. The Capital One Cup is often overlooked and I also think that it's not the most prestigious or most important competition but it's silverware and it counts. It isn't clear yet who we will face but we can beat every team.

Some big news were that you decided to accept an offer to manage a national team. Why did you accept the Bulgarian offer?

Because my father is from there and I feel like it's my second home after Italy. I spend a lot of time there and I have a lot of friends and relatives there. I want to bring pride to the nation and to the people. Bulgaria has done badly in competitions since the amazing World Cup in 1994 when they finished fourth and had Stoichkov in the team. I want to bring them back to the top of Europe and the world. I always wanted to coach Bulgaria or Italy and it up to who offers a job first. We are right now second in our World Cup qualification group and I hope we can make it. I don't remember all the teams that are in there but I know that the Netherlands and Wales are in the group. (Note: I don't like taking the Bulgarian offer because you can't look for youth players there but now I decided to accept it)

What is your target with the national team?

Like I said I want to take the team to the World Cup and do well in it.

                                Leicester 0-4 Newcastle
                                Riviere 17
                                Riviere 27

                                Aarons 81

Riviere opened the scoring in this match, curling in effortlessly before he doubled the advantage tapping in from close range. Cabella made it 3, curling in from the edge of the box before Aarons broke down the wing and cut inside to slot into the far corner.

                                Match 36

                                Newcastle 1-1 West Brom
                                Dorrans 10
                                Riviere 84

Dorrans gave West Brom the lead in this match, beating Colback and Collocini down the right before smashing into the top corner. We couldn't break their defence down for the rest of the match until Riviere beat his man to slot into the bottom corner.

                                Match 37

                                QPR 3-4 Newcastle
                                Ehmer 14 (OG)
                                Riviere 35
                                Ronaldinho 42
                                Sandro 45
                                Ronaldinho 51
                                Austin 67
                                Fer 77

We took the lead in this match when Aarons cut inside and thundered a shot towards goal which took a lethal deflection to find the top corner. Riviere made it 2, running onto a ball over the top before volleying into the corner. Ronnie made it 3, curling in after being left in open space onside. Sandro pulled one back with a header into the bottom right hand corner. Ronnie then scored an excellent goal, chesting the ball down, spinning, flicking it up and toe poking it past the keeper into the back of the net. Austin pulled one back when Begovic passed it straight to him from a goal kick and Fer made things interesting, slotting in from the edge of the box to set up a nervy finish.

                                Match 38

                                Newcastle 1-1 West Ham
                                Ronaldinho 17
                                Carroll 53

Ronaldinho opened the scoring in this match, curling in from the edge of the box to give us the lead. Unfortunately, our former striker Andy Carroll smashed in when Collocini was caught out of position to end the season with a draw.

                                Thoughts

Well what can I say, we got Champions League football. Who would have thought that would happen after our first 3 or 4 months of the season? We played valiantly since December and have deserved every point we have. The top 4 is also quite an odd lineup, with Everton winning the league, and Spurs coming 4th. A good season and next season we can try and do even better!
