How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

    July/August 2014 (Preseason) - Season 1
    FIFA 15 (PS4)

    Season Objectives
    Achieve Automatic Promotion
Reach Round of 32 in Copa Del Rey

    Season Budget
    Transfer Budget: $4,700,000
    Wage Budget: $50,000

    Transfer Window

    Transfers In

LB - Marcos Alonso (Spain) (23yrs 65 OVR)
    Purchased from Fiorentina for $550k
The first signing in the Chavez era is Spanish defender Marcos Alonso, after he was transfer listed by Fiorentina. The Real Madrid youth product played with Sunderland on loan after signing with Fiorentina, but the Italians decided not to keep him after his return and transfer listed him. Fiorentina's board wanted to let go of the player as soon as possible and didn't complicate the negotiations at all, accepting a transfer fee equal to the player's value. The signing is an important one for Osasuna, as there isn't ANY natural left backs on the squad. The player that's been occupying the LB position has been the Algerian Cadamuro (73 OVR) but he's naturally a CB and he's also on loan with the club. If Alonso can pick up his form he could be the future starting LB or possibly even take the starting now with Cadamuro in a more central role. Alonso will wear the #16 jersey.

ST - Guillermo Fernandez (Spain) (21yrs 68 OVR)
Purchased from Athletic Bilbao for $2m + Nino
Osasuna's weak point is the striker position, and Chavez addressed the issue immediately by signing young Basque striker Guillermo Fernandez from Bilbao. Initially, Chavez wanted to go all out and bring Kike Sola back to Osasuna, but the Bilbao board replied with a stern "you cannot afford him" message. Chavez insisted for weeks until Bilbao finally named a price, but indeed it was too high for Osasuna's budget: $7m. Chavez's next target down the list was Juanmi from Malaga, but once again the asking price was too high for his budget: $4.7m. In the end, Chavez went back to Bilbao but this time to negotiate the transfer for Guillermo Fernandez, a Bilbao youth product far down the pecking order at the club. Bilbao were willing to let the player go out on loan not on a permanent transfer, but eventually they chose to accept Chavez's final offer of $2m plus 34 year old striker Nino (70 OVR). Nino had picked up an injury before Chavez's arrival and would miss the entire preseason, so Chavez wasn't reluctant to let the veteran striker go when his advisors brought it up. Guillermo will take the #9 jersey.

    Transfers Out

CDM - Francisco Silva (Chile) (28yrs 71 OVR)
    Loaned to Club Brugge
    *Loaned out before Chavez' arrival

    GK - Ezkieta (Spain) (17yrs 59 OVR)
    Loaned to Sheffield United

CAM - Yoel Sola (Spain) (22yrs 57 OVR)
    Loaned to Albacete

    Preseason Friendlies

    CA Osasuna 1 - 3 Racing Club
    OSA: Guillermo 41'
    RAC: Bou 45' Perez 51' Videla 75'
A terrible start for any manager, to lose at home and by playing so poorly. The match was almost going perfect, with young Guillermo netting his first goal with the club and backing up Chavez after making such a drastic decision by trading a veteran striker like Nino for an inexperienced one. In the next 10 minutes the Argentinians equalized the match and then flipped it, the first goal coming from a terrible mistake from Osasuna's Basque goalkeeper Riesgo. Racing had sent a high cross into the box and Riesgo shouted that it was his. His defenders listened and gave him room to get to the ball, but Riesgo backed out of his decision and returned to the goal when he was already halfway out. The result: the Racing player was left wide open to jump comfortably towards an open goal with Riesgo completely out of position. Osasuna tried to get back in to the game with pretty pathetic attempts and Racing ended it in the 75th minute scoring the 3rd goal. The Osasuna fans booed at their new manager as he retreated to the dressing rooms.

    Sydney FC 1 - 2 CA Osasuna (B-Team)
    SYD: Antonis 8'
    OSA: J. Garcia 27' Onwu 54'
Chavez said in his first press conference that he would be focusing on getting the result rather than playing attractive football, and that's exactly what we saw in this match. Chavez fielded a B team with a customized 5-3-1-1. Osasuna went down early on and it looked like we would be seeing another pitiful display from Chavez, but in the 27th minute young Jose Garcia equalized the match through a rebound giving Chavez a little room to breathe. Early in the second half Spanish striker Onwu gave Osasuna the lead by mounting a counter attack all by himself after a corner kick, sprinting into the box and powering the ball against the post and into the net. After that, Osasuna focused on holding the lead and we didn't see much from them anymore, but Sydney were pushing hard for the equalizer. Fortunately for Chavez, the match ended with his lead still intact.

    CA Osasuna 1 - 0 Stade Brest
    OSA: Onwu 74'
Again, an Osasuna focused on getting a positive result and nothing more. The Basques were having a tough time finishing their plays in the final third leading to Chavez taking Guillermo out of the match and subbing in Onwu. Onwu responded in barely his first touch of the ball, getting to the end of a through ball and defeating the goalkeeper 1 on 1, giving Osasuna the win. Chavez asked his players to take a deep breath and settle down in order to hold the lead. His players were able to keep it together leading to Chavez's 2nd win with the club.

    Osasuna Player of The Month

ST - Manuel Onwu (Spain) (26yrs 64 OVR)
When word came out that Nino would be leaving the club, Onwu got into position to take the starting spot as the spearhead of Osasuna's attack. It must've been a huge disappointment for him to later on hear that Nino had indeed left the club, put in a swap deal for another striker: Guillermo. Regardless, Onwu stepped up during the preseason and scored the winning goal twice. In a month where none of the Osasuna players stood out, Onwu pushed himself to make the difference. Despite coming in on an expensive transfer, Guillermo shouldn't be too comfortable with a striker like Onwu battling to take the starting spot at every practice.

    Conclusion

Things didn't start off good at all and despite having a promotion candidate team I don't think this is gonna be an easy season. I know the way I'm playing isn't the way a promotion candidate should be playing, but I feel like I don't have another choice. I don't see the advantage I'm supposed to have over other teams I don't feel I have a solid squad. Most of the team's foreign players recently joined the club so I couldn't transfer list or trade them from Spanish players, but the team needs squad depth right now so I'm not too worried about it. Even though the board gave me a WAY bigger budget than AFC Wimbledon did in my first 3 seasons, I still feel broke. My transfer targets are more expensive than I thought and the majority that I could actually afford had just joined their club so they couldn't move. Osasuna also sold a lot of good players after getting relegated. Going into the transfer window I thought I would be throwing cash around like crazy telling everybody to keep the change but I soon realized this isn't League 2. I feel like this might just be my first ever career I get fired from, in which case I would go to Racing.

    That's it for our preseason.
    Thanks for Reading!

      August 2014 - Season 1
      FIFA 15 (PS4)

      Transfer Window

      Transfers In

CM - Victor Camarasa (Spain) (20yrs 69 OVR)
Purchased from Levante UD for $1.7m
The third signing for Osasuna is young Victor Camarasa from Levante. Chavez had initially contacted Levante about the right back Ivan, but Real Valladolid came in with more money and won the race for Ivan. Chavez then moved on to Camarasa since he needs more depth in midfield. Camarasa was hesitant at first and wasn't okay with the idea of moving down to Liga Adelante, but Chavez upped his wage offer along with the promise that he would be back in La Liga next season. Camarasa will wear the #17 jersey.

LM - Julian Luque (Spain) (22yrs 63 OVR)
Loanee from RCD Espanyol with a $700k option to buy
The fourth and final signing is former Racing Santander midfielder and youth product Julian Luque. The 22 year old can play out wide or as a CAM, so his versatility will prove handy for Chavez. We are not sure if the reason he was only brought in on loan is because Chavez has already used up his transfer budget, or if this loan spell will serve as a trial for Julian since Chavez has an option to buy him after loan is over. Julian will wear the #7 jersey.

      Liga Adelante

      CA Osasuna 2 - 1 Numancia
      OSA: Guillermo 7' 72'
      NUM: Gerrit 79'
Osasuna looked like a completely different team from the preseason, pushing forward and entertaining the crowd with constant passing. There was only one change in the lineup, the Cameroon international Loe was sent to the bench so that Spanish midfielder Oier could take his place in the starting lineup. The change seemed to have paid off, since Oier added speed to the midfield with more ball recovery, but at the same time helped make the attack dangerous. The 21 year old striker Guillermo showed off his new colors with two headed goals. Both of his headers hit the top crossbar and bounced back in. Near the end of the match Numancia got one back from an incredible defensive mistake by Osasuna but it wasn't enough, and Chavez earned his first win of the season.

      CD Lugo 0 - 3 CA Osasuna
      OSA: Torres 17' Guillermo 37' 51'
Big win for Osasuna leaving their difficult preseason behind. Roberto Torres scored the first goal and then assisted Guillermo's first goal. After last match the social medias were filled with people saying Guillermo hadn't proved anything, since his two goals against Numancia were mostly luck, but today he proved he has more than luck behind him with two great goals by his right foot, no posts needed. Roberto Torres had an incredible match being involved in pretty much all of Osasuna's attacking plays. Chavez has chosen to play Torres as CAM and opening Cuevas to LM, and his choice has paid off with both players appearing dangerous in their respective positions. The future is finally beginning to look bright for Chavez.

      Liga Adelante League Table
      1. SD Ponferradina - 6 points
      2. CA Osasuna - 6 points
      3. Sabadell FC - 6 points
      4. Real Betis - 4 points
      5. FC Barcelona B - 4 points
      6. CD Mirandes - 4 points
      ----------
      9. Racing Santander - 4 points
      12. CD Alcorcon - 2 points
      ----------
      20. CD Lugo - 1 point
      21. Albacete - 0 points
      22. Deportivo Alaves - 0 points

      Liga Adelante Top Scorer
      1. Guillermo (Osasuna) - 4 Goals
      2. Molina (Real Betis) - 3 Goals
      Andriatsima (Ponferradina) - 3 Goals

      Osasuna Top Scorer
      1. Guillermo - 4 Goals
      2. Roberto Torres - 1 Goal

CA Osasuna Player of The Month

      CDM - Oier (Spain) (28yrs 69 OVR)
Oier Sanjurjo takes the first PoTM award of the regular season after assisting one goal, but more importantly improving the team's style of play in midfield. Oier caught Chavez's eye in preseason after his match with the B team, which led to him taking the starting RDM spot from Cameroon international Loe. Oier may not have been the most flashy and entertaining man on the field, but he seems to be the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle and has turned the year around for Chavez, for now at least.

      Conclusion
I'm starting to feel tons better now. A bit too easy actually. If I continue to get easy wins then I will probably quit the career. I know I could bump it up to legendary, but I know that the game difficulty is not the issue here, the issue is that Osasuna already had good players to fight for promotion before I got here. If I was to bump it up to legendary I would get killed the minute I jump up to La Liga. Guillermo has proven to be a good purchase, but he still feels like a kid during the games. I'm still not quite used to playing with Osasuna, having been looking at the Wimbledon logo for so long. I'm actually struggling a bit to find things to write about when at Wimbledon I always had tons to talk about but I had to narrow it down for the "Headlines" section. Hopefully as the season goes on more things start coming up. What do you guys think of the updates so far? Any feedback is appreciated!

      Thanks for Reading!

I like the signings, and Fernandez looks to be a future star for you. He seems to have a great balance of size, strength, and speed.

Glad that you finally got started! Can't wait to see what happens. I wouldn't be too worried about the slow start, surely you can't do worse than my start at St. Pauli

Edit: Just saw that you now think it's too easy haha. Knew that you would pick it up quickly!

Thanks! Fernandez wasn't my first choice, I really wanted to bring Kike Sola back and play with him as a target man, but since Bilbao is a rival club they wouldn't let him go. Fernandez has been doing great though I'm actually surprised. I usually play with a lone striker, but Osasuna have good CAMs so I've had to adjust to the players available. The transfer window has been tough with a lot of competition, but I feel I got what I needed.

I've been playing ahead so I can tell you that those first two games of the season were misleading. I need to sit down and get caught up with the updates so you can see for yourself! Your start at St. Pauli doesn't really make me feel better since you can back it up. You moved up to legendary and here I am struggling with World Class. How pathetic haha

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Millwall has called to a press conference to announce their new manager Erik Falaph who comes from a series of successful spells at different clubs in his home country Sweden. He most recently led Malmö FF to both the league title and to qualification for the Champions’ League group stage as the first Swedish team in 11 years! He replaces Ian Holloway who got sacked after only reaching a 19th place last season.
Erik Falaph has signed a 5-year deal with Millwall. He will be the first Swedish manager in Millwall’s history.

Q: How does it feel to have become the new manager of Millwall?

A: It feels amazing! As a kid I would always watch English league football and one of the teams that I followed was Millwall and as I got older I started following them with great passion and they became the number 1 football team in my heart so this feels like a dream come true!

Q: Do you think that the fact that you are very passionate about this club was one of the reasons to why you were offered this managerial position?

A: I honestly don’t know it hasn’t been anything we have talked about during our meetings but I’m certain that it at least didn’t lower my chances of getting this job since it shows that I will work extremely hard to make this club successful.

Q: What are your philosophies regarding tactics and transfers?

A: I do not really have a preference regarding tactics I chose the style of football that best fits the players that I have at my disposal, and regarding transfers I have to meet the team and see them in training and play some games before making a decision on how to act on the transfer market. I will however look at bringing in some younger players to the club since we have quite an old squad.
            [
Q: Does your focus on bringing in younger players mean that the Millwall academy will be used more in the future than it has been in the past?

A: Yes it certainley does! I think that it is very important for every club to have a academy that regularly promotes players to the first team and since this hasn't been the case in recent years for Millwall I will have to focus on improving the academy.

            End of press conference.

That was simply a great month! Shame about losing your lead against Man City but a draw against them is a very good result. If you keep on getting good results against top teams I'm sure you will play in the Champions League next year. I'm looking forward to seeing what transfers you make.

Definitely! I haven't been able to get the squad review started but it's on my to-do list. I plan on posting it before my next update. I liked that your most recent update had more details on it. I know you always post a summary of how the team is doing but I don't recall a post about your transfer windows with as much detail as this one had. I've had my eye on your center back Bruno. I still haven't decided who I will bring in in January, but if I end up narrowing it down to Bruno you and I will have to sit down and negotiate if you're willing to let him join Osasuna

Interesting in a good way or in a bad way? Lol thanks man. Guillermo is a player that I always liked when I used Bilbao, but I never actually got to play him since Bilbao have Aduriz and Kike Sola, two target men. I'm glad I now have a team where I can use him, even though he wasn't my first or second choice, and I'm even more glad you guys have liked the signing so far!

                          MOTM: Bafétimbi Gomis

Paulinho opened the scoring for the home side 20 minutes in. A quick throw in gave Britton a chance to swing in a cross from the left. Sigurdsson climbed and headed it back across Vorm and in off the post. Berahino then got his first goal for the club speeding past Walker and Kaboul before placing it past Vorm. Adebayor equalized and it looked like it was heading for a draw before Kaboul took Montero out in the box. Gomis stepped up and confidently tucked it away to give us the lead. A minute later Adebayor had an absolutely outrageous shot from about halfway into our half. It was struck beautifully and hit the joint between the post and crossbar. Emnes assured us of the 3 points scoring when Spurs pushed up looking for an equalizer leaving themselves exposed to Emnes' pace.

                          Match 28
                          Swansea 1-4 Manchester United
                          Rooney 6'
                          Rafael 26'
                          Fellaini 71'
                          Berahino 83'
                          Mata 88'

                          MOTM: Marouane Fellaini

The game got off to a terrible start when Rooney back heeled into the net. Rafael added a scrappy goal 20 minutes later that was lucky to go in. Fellaini tapped in a rebound off the crossbar for his goal. Berahino scored a good goal from the edge of the box after getting the ball from Taylor. But Mata added a 4th 2 minutes from time to end a very poor performance which included Bony missing a penalty, Shelvey hitting the post and Emnes suffering a bruised shoulder.

Marvin Emnes will be out for 9 days.

                          Match 29
                          Swansea 2-1 Liverpool
                          Henderson 26'
                          Bony 42'
                          Bony 57'

                          MOTM: Wilfried Bony

Wanting to bounce back from the defeat at the hands of United last game we hosted title challengers Liverpool. Henderson scored first after our defense was opened by Gerrard. Bony equalized cutting inside and finishing with his left foot. Sigurdsson then slid Bony in perfectly and he scored the winner. We kept hold of the ball for as long as we could to try and kill the game.

Danny Ings has been cleared to return to first team training.

                          Player of the Month

                          Wilfried Bony

The Ivorian notched 2 important goals this month and both were against Liverpool winning us a very important game. He's brought his tally to 16 goals in the Premier League and is leading the race for the golden boat.

                          Fixtures for April
                          4/4 Hull City Home
                          7/4 Aston Villa Away
                          11/4 Everton Home
                          18/4 Leicester City Away
                          20/4 Newcastle United Away

                          Thoughts
We had a good performance against Spurs finishing the game stronger than them and Emnes made an impact off the bench with his pace. Berahino also got his first goal which was good to see. I was really really disappointed at the United game. It was a terrible game for us. They got lucky with a couple goal though. Rafael's was very scrappy and lucky, Fellaini's was a rebound that fell right to him and Mata's was a pass I made after a corner fell to me that I should have hoofed away. Rooney's was just plain humiliation. The only good thing was that Berahino got himself another goal. The Liverpool game was a good win to bounce back and Bony really shined. He mightn't be the quickest striker but when he's in the box he is deadly.

Next month I feel we're capable of winning all the games. It'll test the squad though with the first 3 close together and the last 2 close as well.

I've been getting a lot of International offers but I've rejected them all as I don't want to manage one this season. If Ireland come knocking I may be tempted though.

Thanks for reading! Any feedback is appreciated!

Bruno would be a tough one to let go of he's my best defender(statistically). It was because of him that I drew that Bilbao game. You'd have to give me a good chunk of money for him if I were to even consider letting him go

Finally started! Looks like you've started to get the hang of it. 2 wins from 2 is a very good start to the season. Fernandez seems like he could turn into a world class striker. Nice pick up. Looking forward to next month!
