Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
So as you know I have been extremely inactive for the past 2 months. This is maily due to my life being extremely busy. It' also at the stage where FIFA 15 career has gotten boring and old if you know what I mean. At the moment I'm playing a Crystal Palace Career to end my FIFA 15 experience but I doubt I'l post about it. I have a question though and I would like people to comment. What team will you be starting with in FIFA 16 when you get it? Personally I have no idea I'm thinking Watford, Leicester or a RTG but haven't really decided. I have still been reading the posts and I hope everyone keeps up the brilliant work and continue possibly the longest thread on the website.
1. Bournemouth or Watford, depending on whose kits look better
2. Win the Scottish title with Aberdeen/Hibernian/Inverness CT
3. Resurrect a former titan like Benfica, Hamburg or Milan
4. Stick to Basque-only rules at Athletic Bilbao
5. One of the French clubs that recently opened a new/renovated stadium
6. Real Oviedo, possibly with financial takeover after promotionComment

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
The one I've always used — two defensive midfielders behind one attacking midfielder behind two strikers, plus a right and left midfielder being told to track back. I've never used the wide men as wing backs because they don't get forward as much as I want, even with the 'always overlap' instruction in place. It's odd. I have never had this sort of performance with 3-5-2, but I suppose a different set of tactics might help.
It's pretty much their go-to formation these days, but Italian clubs playing in Europe and the national team use 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 diamond because 3-5-2 tends to be useless against any team that has multiple players on each of the wings. When you double up on the flank against any formation with only one player per wing, you can easily bypass what's going to be a crowded central midfield. And if your wide central defenders don't have the strength and pace to deal with tricky wingers, you can be in all sorts of trouble.
EDIT: Okay, so I think the problem MAY have been tactics rather than the formation itself. Testing is underway on 3-5-2, 5-2-3 and 3-4-3 using the game's default counter-attacking tactics. Results might be up and down until December or thereabout.
Lol I never use that 3-5-2 (2 CDMs, 1 CAM). Whenever I use that attacking set up I go with a back line of 5 instead of 3. I agree with you on the wingbacks never pushing up as high as you'd want them to in game. I think the only thing you can do to encourage them to push up higher is to avoid crowding the wings. For example, if your CAM has the ball do not dribble too far to the wings. If you take the ball over there, your wingback won't see space to run to and will instead stay back. Also using the button that sends your players on runs (L1 on PS4) will help out. What I tried once was adjusting the RM and LM on the 3-5-2 all the way back until you get the option to convert them to RWB and LWB, but then adjust them one click forward making them RM and LM again. That way they play closer to the back line, but you can give them instructions to push forward like get in behind which will guarantee he will push up. To be honest though I can't remember how that worked out for me but maybe you can give it a try.
I disagree about the 3-5-2 being useless against teams with traditional formations. Mexico used the 3-5-2 (sometimes 5-3-2) formation with Herrera as manager and our wings were never receiving too much damage. In fact our wings was one of our strongest points of the game. And Herrera was really stubborn about the formation he never changed to a back line of 4. It's all about the midfield. As long as your midfield can support the wingbacks, you won't have any problems with overlapping fullbacks, and if the opposition tries to overload the wings they leave themselves vulnerable to counter attacks.
Which brings me to the next subject, I think using the counter attack tactic will work great with your formation! With my B-Team's 3-5-2 at Leeds I usually play an offside trap so that my back line will press higher. Maybe you can give that a try as well.

I don't think I have to say who my first career will be; I'm sure you guys already know. I plan on staying there for a long time thanks to the new features. The only thing that could potentially throw me off after a couple seasons would be the "Copa LatAm". I've vented about it before so I don't want to get into it, but that tournament desperately needs some attention from EA.
For my second career I'm thinking of going to League 1 to a club that I've been planning to use since FIFA 14 but I've just never had a chance to since back then I was at Wimbledon and on 15 I went through this weird phase where I just couldn't return to England.
Looking forward to your Portsmouth career on 16 Tex! Having the real stadium in the game will undoubtedly heighten your experience by a ton.
It's funny how days go by where nobody replies to anything, then someone asks a question about FIFA 16 and we all come out of the woodwork lol. I'm just making observations, don't shoot me! But yeah for me it will most likely be Chelsea first, just while I get used to the new gameplay mechanics and movement. Once I get going with skills and finish up at least three or four seasons with them, I'll get around to these other ideas I came up with.

Lol I agree. A few days ago I was reading about businesses that failed and/or went bankrupt and this sort of reminds me of the Osborne Effect although not as extreme of course. For those of you that aren't familiar with it, Osborne was a computer maker way back in the day (I think it was the late 1970s). Their 1st computer was extremely popular and in extremely high demand. They had so many back orders that they couldn't keep up with manufacturing. They were doing amazing for a new company but their mistake was announcing their 2nd computer too early. They let the people know of all the new features that were gonna be on the 2nd computer, and even though they weren't even close to the release date yet a lot of people cancelled their orders of the 1st version and waited for the 2nd to be released instead. This led to large amounts of unsold back stock for the company and eventually led to their bankruptcy. And now I know why businesses take so long to announce their new product
Nice career mode ideas by the way!

I'm actually really interested in this next one. It seems they have finally made some positive changes to career mode, rather than the crap in the last few years such as "updated UI", and "Global Trade Network". It is coming up so much quicker than I realized too! Still so much left to accomplish with Portsmouth!Comment

How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Thanks for the insight! You make several valid points because plenty of club and national sides from South America and Mesoamerica tend to play with a high tempo and crowded midfield, and it works because they have the right players. Maybe my central defenders are too slow, but let's see what I can do with them. You said you use a back line of five. How do you set up your midfield and attack? I was considering three centre halves, then a midfield of two deep wingers flanking three proper central midfielders, which I think has been my primary weakness i.e. a lack of central presence. Last season with 4-2-3-1, between 3-5 were always available in the middle of the park for a pass. This season's midfield has felt like a two-way road between Melo and Cataldi, or back to the defenders. Pretty sure offside trap will murder my three slow CBs, but I will try out anything at this point. Track back with stay wide and get in behind might be just what I need for the wing players, but maybe just having three in the middle will sort it out, and then I can have one of my forwards drop into that CF/CAM hybrid position. Might need to recall Zuculini and trade off Yesil to the bench for that, but it's worth a shot after an underwhelming first month. By the way, this is the shape I'm talking about.

That 5-3-2 you just posted is exactly how I play. The key to this formation is your midfield and a lot of it revolves around the CM. Personally I like to adjust the CM back all the way until you get the option to convert him to CDM, and then one click forward to make him CM again. I set the instructions to stay back and stay on the edge of box so that he will play as a CDM. I've found that if I were to convert him to CDM in the game he will often fall back too much and merge with the center halves which allows the opposition to pass the ball freely right outside of our box so that's why I adjust him as far back as possible but leave him as a CM. The RCM I leave without instructions with the intention of him being my box-to-box, and my LCM is given the get forward instruction (usually a CAM playing there). The wingbacks are of course instructed to always overlap.
When I managed Mexico, I had two different type of strikers up front. One instructed to stay central, as this was the one I wanted to be inside the box at all times, and the other instructed to drift wide. The striker instructed to drift wide was intended to be your creative striker that could easily dribble past defenders, so I wouldn't mind using a RW/LW sometimes. If you're familiar with the Mexican squad, the striker instructed to drift wide was usually Giovanni Dos Santos/Carlos Vela and the striker instructed to stay central was Javier Hernandez. I usually had the striker that would drift wide play LS so that whenever he would drift wide the LCM would push up and fill in that gap. I used a 3-5-2 in the beginning with much success but when time passed it stopped working as I wanted it to for some reason, so I eventually changed to 5-3-2 and that's where I left it. Nothing would change though the only difference was that I was using wingbacks now. The same starting eleven and instructions though.
With the Leeds B-Team, I do not have the same type of players so I've had to adjust the formation a bit. Because I don't have the right players to effectively play as wing backs I use a 3-5-2, with the wide midfielders instructed to drop back, stay wide, and get in behind as you said. The exception is my RM who is naturally a CAM and therefore I only instruct him to track back and stay wide. The midfield is exactly the same, except that in the 3-5-2 I play with a CDM. I don't adjust him or anything I just let him play as CDM since for some reason in the 3-5-2 I don't see the problem I mentioned in the 5-3-2 central midfielder. The CDM is instructed to stay back and cut passing lanes, the RCM is instructed to stay on edge of box because I want him to be my box to box but I don't want him to crowd the box and force a striker out, and the LCM is instructed to get forward (usually a CAM). If the LCM already has a high attacking work rate you don't need to instruct him to get forward in my experience. So, it's all pretty much the same as the 5-3-2 I used with Mexico, but the striker partnership is where things change. At Leeds I don't have a striker that can take the ball, dribble, and drift wide to open the opposition. So, what I did was adjust the RS back and converted him to RF or CF. I don't remember how many clicks I adjusted him because I used the midfield mark on the team management screen to measure it. You see the half moon? Bring the RS back to where he's just touching the right bottom corner of that line from the outside. I'll take a picture when I get home so I can better explain it. The LS is left as is with the instruction to stay central and target man, since that's the type of striker he is, and the RF is instructed to drift wide but depending on how he's playing I sometimes get rid of that instruction and change it to get in behind only. The RF is intended to play the CAM/CF role you mentioned.
When playing with a back line of 3 or 5 I always shoot for possession. Counter attacks are great when possible, but if you can't counterattack then you need all your players to be in their correct positions in order for it to work. That's why I don't use any free roams instructions. Everyone needs to be where they're supposed to be both in attack and defense. As I'm sure you've noticed already, having just one player get out of position in defense can easily cost you a goal, and having a player in attack out of position will make it difficult to make any real damage. So whenever you have the ball and you see that your players aren't in position yet, pass it back to your center halves and wait for everyone to get organized. When you watch a team play 5 or 3 at the back IRL you'll notice that the center halves are very much involved with the ball circulation so do that in game as well. Hope I helped!

Does Mbaye tend to get forward more than Ikoko does? Or do both seem to have trouble getting forward?Comment

The former Exeter number eight had been spotted at the club’s training ground a month after the new season started. The forty-two year old played for Exeter City until retiring four seasons back. He’s been at a number of different clubs including Southampton, Derby and Leicester City whilst acquiring experience and knowledge of coaching.
The midfielder is back at Exeter with renewed passion for success which shone through in his interview with our very own Vinny O’Connor:
Vinny: Had you ever considered joining Exeter City as a coach in your playing days?
Matt: A little. I was prepared to step in as an emergency coach or manager but never as a full time coach until I decided to retire. I took coaching programmes and I found them fulfilling. I passed and moved back to Derby to learn under Steve McLaren and I have now grown confident enough to make a big leap to the Premier League with Exeter.
Are you already learning under your new boss?
Matt: A coach will always learn something new under a different manager and Bee has already taught me a lot. He welcomed me with open arms and the lads have accepted me and are eager to work with me. It’s great to see all the familiar faces and I had to go and have dinner with Liam (Sercombe) and his wife to catch up. The boss took us to a bar and we chatted all night. I learned so much and I’m looking forward to the challenge of the Premier League with all the staff and players by my side.
Does Calum have any odd habits when at the training ground?
Matt: Hahaha, he usually joins in with the lads when they are doing their sprinting exercises. For what he lacks in speed, he makes up for in coaching! Hahaha!
What are your aspirations with the club?
Matt: All I want to do is learn and use my experience to help develop the lads throughout their careers.
Would you become manager of Exeter City if Bee left?
Matt: I cannot see the boss going anytime soon but for whatever reason it might be, it’s a possibility that I would become manager but anything could happen between then.
Thank you for your time, Mr. Oakley.
No problem. It's been a pleasure.
Oakley’s new boss spoke to Sky Sports HQ earlier in the month. Bee admitted that he has high aspirations for the club after starting the first two months of the Premier League in the top two.
“I could never have hoped for such a response from the players. They really have hit the ground running and I can’t wait to see what we achieve this year,” he told Sky Sports HQ.
When asked about Swansea’s stubbornness to sell Jonjo Shelvey, he said: “I can understand. He’s a top player and I could see that they weren’t going to budge so I ended the negotiations.”
“We bought some world-class players this transfer window and the opening games have proven to all the pundits that they can work as a team and gel straight away.”
Bee was also clear about his main ambitions as manager: “I’m not going to stop until I at least win the Premier League with Exeter. I will not be leaving for any job. No amount of money could lure me even to Real Madrid!”
Bee claimed that his team would have to fight similarly to last year for a Europa League spot and he has high hopes for Champions League in the future.
“We will be a team to be reckoned with and we will move into those Champions League spots. I’d be flabbergasted if we didn’t!”
P.S. I now really want to post my new formation and tactics too! I'll post about them soon.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
I'm actually really interested in this next one. It seems they have finally made some positive changes to career mode, rather than the crap in the last few years such as "updated UI", and "Global Trade Network". It is coming up so much quicker than I realized too! Still so much left to accomplish with Portsmouth!
Seeing all of the formation talk, I'll post mine tomorrow along with the end of the season with Shrewsbury. (Yes it is from January right to May, I got a little bit carried away.....haha.)Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
The answer to this is actually quite interesting once you consider the factors surrounding them. Ikoko is a natural RB with M/M work rates, and Mbaye is a natural LM with H/H work rates. I notice that while defending, even though Mbaye has the higher work rate, Ikoko tends to be 4-5 yards deeper, usually beside the central defenders. Mbaye will take more time to get back despite the high defensive work rate and track back instruction, often leaving my left flank as the weak zone. I think this has to do with their natural positions, as I had a similar issue last season when Mbaye was positioned at left back. The centre half furthest left of whichever formation I play tends to have a poorer rating because he has to effectively be two men at once 5-6 times every game. In attack, you would then assume Mbaye gets up quickly, but no! He tends to wait until I have to circulate the ball back to the left to make his runs up. Ikoko is the one I usually find storming up the pitch to put in a cross, and he's a pretty good dribbler as well so I have no issue handing him the ball in tight situations.Comment

Bologna S03
September 2016
Bologna 1-2 Palermo
24' Ikoko
5' Dybala, 45'+1 Makienok
• Mancosu has a penalty saved in the 17th minute
• Two good chances missed by either side in the second half
• MOTM Ikoko — 1 goal, 2/2 shots on target, 16/21 passes completed, 3 tackles
'We could have done a lot better but this is a new system that we're still getting used to, so there is no reason to believe that this one bad result is a sign of things to come. We have the quality to improve and positives to take from today's game. We're threatening down the wings, which is not an area of strength for most Italian sides. We also dominated physically if you compare the number of tackles and interceptions we made to Palermo.'
Fiorentina 0-0 Bologna
• Yesil injured in the 63rd minute, hyper-extended knee for 3 weeks
• Plenty of chances but no finishing for either side
• MOTM Gonzalo Rodríguez — 10/11 passes completed, 4 tackles, 5 interceptions
'The build-up was much better today but the finishing let us down again. I repeat that it's too early to judge us but I also understand that results will speak louder than what I say. Samed's injury is a worrying issue because it interrupts his chance to settle in the squad, but the injury itself is not an issue because it's very minor. But we miss him now for the next few games.'
Bologna 4-1 La Spezia
15' 45' 76' Mancosu, 82' Melo
90'+2 Giannetti
• Mancosu hat-trick, Melo screamer fuel first win
• Oikonomou showcases loss of concentration yet again
• MOTM Mancosu — 3 goals, 3/4 shots on target, 15/16 passes completed, 3 tackles
'The result is fantastic and the performance was very good, so there is not much to complain about today. But we have to eradicate some weaknesses from our game, one of them is to lose concentration during the last 10-15 minutes of the match. If we can become sharper and stronger mentally, it will be of greater benefit. La Spezia have to be credited for their efforts.'
Milan 1-1 Bologna
90'+2 Paletta
90'+4 Cornet
• Poli sent off for Milan in the 41st minute for second booking
• Mancosu misses from the spot in the 76th minute
• MOTM Günok — 9/10 passes completed, 10 saves
'The result today is not bad. A point at San Siro against either team is a very strong result. But the performance was again a concern for us. There were chances for us to finish the game much before the end which we did not take. Milan also had the ball for more time than we like, but that is something we must expect against a top team like them. We have to be a little more careful with the ball in the final third if we want to improve.'
Bologna 2-1 Torino
7' Mancosu, 29' Bernardeschi
53' Peres
• Maksimović sent off for Torino in the 57th minute with straight red
• Bologna dominate with 81% possession
• MOTM Bernardeschi — 1 goal, 4/4 shots on target, 21/24 passes completed, 1 interception
'The first half was completely in our hands. We defended very well and kept the ball far away from our box. The response to recovering possession was a good one. Both our goals came from quick counter-attacks. The decisions were made very quickly and very smartly today, so I am proud of my team. Torino began the second half like madmen. We could not stop them from scoring that goal if we played it over 100 times. The answer from us was to defend like a championship team for the rest of the game, so I'm happy.'
Monthly Review
Mancosu — The decision to keep our star striker seems like it will prove to be the right one. Mancosu already has 4 goals and 1 assist in his first six games, including a hat-trick against La Spezia. A few tweaks to our style of play should help him get into scoring positions and really start knocking the goals back. On top of all this, he's even grown +1 to 73 overall, with boosts to his passing and dribbling stats to supplement what is now 84 in finishing!
Bernardeschi — Our best player of the opening stages, he seems to be on the way to fulfilling the potential I know is there. He's not been rated below 7.2 in any of our matches, with nearly perfect pass accuracy and plenty of attempted dribbles to supplement his creative vision. The goal he scored against Torino was a thing of pure class with zero chance of being saved, and he also has 3 assists to his name.
New players — Daniele Rugani and Felipe Melo have slotted straight into the first team with tremendous success. Rugani did exactly what I thought he would, which is to add stability and assurance to our defence. Felipe is the steel we needed so desperately in midfield, but he's also a threat going up the pitch with a fearsome right foot and long-range shooting. Zampano is turning out to be exactly the type of impact substitute I needed, offering a turn of pace and strength in the dying minutes when everyone is fatigued.
Results vs. performances — Eight points out of 15 in the first month is not bad, especially when we're tinkering with a new system. But I happen to be very demanding, so we need to either start the season well or have a good run in the middle. Milan and Parma look strong after their additions in the summer, Inter and Roma will take some effort to beat, and Juventus is the world-class powerhouse that we all fear and loathe. Tough times lie ahead!
Formation — After plenty of discussion with my colleague ChicoBass, we're going to implement a 5-3-2 system in the next few games and see if that doesn't enhance our defensive stability and offensive nous. Greater control in midfield might be exactly what is required to reduce the pressure on our defenders. That said, Oikonomou's place is genuinely under threat. I'll give him time to improve, but I need to see a considerable improvement before the month is out if he doesn't want to lose his spot to Maxence Chapuis.
1. Juventus — 13 points
2. Inter — 10 points
3. Roma — 10 points
4. Milan — 9 points
5. Parma — 9 points
6. Bologna — 8 points

March was our best month yet, winning all 5 games, keeping 3 clean sheets and I won manager of the month. We were unable to get into top spot because Norwich are not dropping points but we are right up there where we should be. The new signings are doing amazing, with Ryan (GK) making save after save, Vestergaard (CB) being a beast in defence and bringing out the best in Hinteregger (CB) and Johannsson scoring goals up front. I am finally getting the form I need to succeed.

Top Goalscorer - Vossen (Middlesbrough) 20
Top Assists - Howson (Norwich) 12
Top Clean Sheets - Byrtek (Norwich) 18
We have won the championship. Maybe not the best silverware but I have finally won something in this career. This was by no means easy, as the first half of the season was tough to get through. We could not establish a good run of form and conceded goals like it was nothing. But what helped us was our capabilities at the other end of the pitch. We managed to score 93 goals this season, just two behind Norwich and this reslly helped us this year. It balanced out the goals we were letting in. But once we got through January and made our signings, we were like a completely different team, managing to sore goals but keep clean sheets. Our defence became incredible and I am so proud of the defenders and Goalkeepers for their effort in the second half of the season.
Now to our player of the season. It could have been a few players, but first lets see the stats for our players this season.

Player of the Season

Tonny Vilhena
Tonny Vilhena has been chosen as player of the year by managing to score 8 goals fron midfield and also assist 5 times. He has been consistant throughout the season and always pops up when we need an extra bit pace or energy in a game. He has established himself as a real team player.
Honerable Mentions
Danny Drinkwater
Drinkwater managed to score 4 goals and assist 8 times from midfield. He has been amazing this season, becoming our club captain and that important player every team needs when in a tricky situation.
Richairo Zivkovic
Zivkovic dropped off towards the end of the season, but still managed to score 16 goals this season. Without his goals, we wouldn't have been able to win the league, so he has been a crucial player for us. I knew how good he would be when we signed him, as I had him at Swansea and saw that he always managed to score a goal out of nothing, which is always a great attribute to have.
Matthew Ryan
Ryan only joined the club in the January transfer window but as soon as he entered our team, he made an instant impact. He managed to achieve 10 clean sheets in 17 appearences, beating Schmeichal who had played more games. He made amazing saves and kept our defence in line. He will definately be a top player for us next season.
Martin Hinteregger & Jannick Vetergaard
These two defenders have to be recognised together, as their partnership was inspirations for us in the second half of the season. Hinteregger struggled to make many positive appearances at the start fo the season but as soon as we brought in Vestergaard, it was like he was a new player. They won headers, tackles and were generally rocks at the back for us in many a game. I am looking forward to the impact they will have for us next season in the Premier League.
Well, I have done it, I am back to the premier league with my second job in Leicester. I am hoping to go from strength to strength and establish a style of playing that can excel us to greater heights.
Many thanks for reading. Any comments and suggestions are very welcome

Monthly Highlights
Manager Comments
League Play - We dropped one this month, but our lead is still commanding. The win over Cardiff only served to prove how dangerous of a team we can be. Everything went right in that match, and our defense hasn't missed a step since Cropper departed.
F.A. Cup - The first match against Liverpool ended in a huge disappointment. We looked to be moving on into the quarter finals until Borini pulled back a last minute goal to force the replay. We had to travel to Anfield if we wanted to advance. We came prepared this time, and our defense wasn't about to let us down for a second time. The back line stood firm, but we couldn't produce anything on the other end until Russell made a great individual run that forced Markovic to pull him down inside the box or else let him go through uncontested on the keeper. We put our fate in the captain's hands and Pack converted to send us through.
New Faces - The new additions have been a much needed breath of air that has allowed us to really begin rotating the squad and keeping everyone rested and healthy. We had been experience off and on bouts of injuries, and with the large workload they were putting in, it isn't hard to figure out why. With the new faces in, that issue has been addressed.

- · Robert Bauer scores with his first touch as a corner is whipped into the near post and he nods the ball in the back of the net.
Bee: - “We performed well this match and did what we needed to do. It’s great to see the new signings making such an impact I hope they can continue their form. As for the injury and medical staff, Conor will be getting a scan straight away on his toe. We hope he recovers quickly as he’s been such a massive influence since he joined. The medical staff will be assessed and an official enquiry is being carried out as to why they let Conor back onto the pitch.”
Conor Compton has suffered a Broken Toe and will be out for 3 months

The Manager’s View:
We’re playing really well! All of the new signings are doing all that I wanted them to and more! Yaya Sanogo was frustrated in the Swansea game because their defence isolated him well but he came out of nowhere with a wonder strike with his left foot from outside the area which just shows that he is a world class player and that he’ll take any opportunity and score when it seems impossible to score. Sergio Rodríguez is the Premier League’s top assister and that’s exactly what I got him for! Aké’s been solid defensively and chipped in with some crucial goals. He played magnificently in against his former club, Chelsea. He contained the likes of the Hazard brothers when in the middle he constantly was a problem for Matić. Aké’s partner, Kyle Weale, has been in scintillating form which has helped us dominate the midfield.
I can’t say we’ll stay second for long but I hope we don’t slip down the ladder too quickly and that we stop just under or around the top 5. It’s nice to see that we’ve got the best goal difference due to our dominating displays too!

Spoiler
FA Cup: Round 2
Shrewsbury 1-1 Mansfield Town
SHR: 90' Collins
MAN: 55' Clucas
•Mansfield and Clucas got a lucky goal against the run of play. Just as Goldson was about to clear it, Clucas nipped in and scored under Halstead.
•However rightfully, we managed to equalize through none other than Collins. Connor Goldson had pushed forward to join the attack and played the ball to Collins who spun his man and fired a rocket off his left foot past Studer, who had had a terrific game.
•Somehow we didn't win but we'll take the draw and replay.

Jordan Clark sprained his ankle so he will be out of action for 3 weeks.

FA Cup: Round 2 Replay
Mansfield Town (5) 1-1 (6) Shrewsbury
MAN: 86' Knight-Percival OG
SHR: 55' Gornell
•The second team played due to the first team being fatigued.
•They really should have won in normal time, Mansfield not even registering a shot on target in the entire 90 minutes.
•Gornell got us ahead, Griffith finding his run and the former Cheltenham man tucked it away.
•The danger when you only score one is that the opponent can get a little bit of luck and tie it up even though you dominate the game.
•That's what happened here. Leutwiler saved a shot from a tight angle and it bounced off Knight-Percival and into the net.
•It went to penalties and we prevailed even though Mansfield raced into a lead. Some good saves from Leutwiler and poor misses from Mansfield managed to keep us in the shootout. Leutwiler, our GK, scored a terrific penalty right into the corner and then on loan LB Ryan Haynes scored the winning penalty.
•Championship side Brentford, adrift by 4 points at the bottom, are our Round 3 opposition.

FL2: Match 22
Portsmouth 1-1 Shrewsbury
POR: 59' Taylor
SHR: 42' Collins
•Crucial clash as Portsmouth are a point ahead in 1st.
•A mistake by Robinson at the back allowed Collins to take advantage and net the opening goal.
•One chance was all it took though for top scorer Ryan Taylor to take his tally to 17 for the season.
•Portsmouth GK Paul Jones was also in sensational form making 6 saves, and all of them were important ones.
•I guess you can say that a point is a good result but it wasn't what we needed.
***
FL2: Match 23
Shrewsbury 2-0 Oxford United
SHR: 10' Gornell 46' McAllister
•Griffith played the ball into Gornell's feet and his turn left the defender on the ground before he slotted the ball away.
•Akpa Akpro got away down the right and his ball across the box was met by McAllister for 2-0.
•Leutwiler then had work to do to save Hoskins' penalty in the 53rd minute after Haynes gave it away.
***
FL2: Match 24
Hartlepool 1-2 Shrewsbury
HAR: 12' Miller
SHR: 32' Bates OG 83' Woods
•Halstead saved the first attempt from Hartlepool but Miller was there to finish the rebound from 18 yards.
•Bates had put the ball in his own net by halftime to level it up.
•Woods showed quick feet to get out from between two defenders and finish for the winner.
