- Exeter City really should have won this match, Manchester United’s only chance was their goal. Lukaku had three great opportunities and Compton nearly scored a screamer. Cabee was particularly angry at the referee for calling half time during the middle of a good chance for Johannes Geis and also pulling play back for an injury whilst Ward-Prowse and Lukaku broke forward on the counter attack. This means that Chelsea are now six point clear of second place Exeter City after the two-one win over Crystal Palace.

- Byram (gets the assist) dispossesses Alberto Moreno on the right and it quickly becomes a test of speed on the wing. Byram breaks into the box before the left-back loses his patience and goes in for the slide tackle which gets all the man and not the ball. Conor Compton converts the spot kick to equalise once again in the match.

- A clearance to the edge of the box drops to Lukaku who powers a header back towards Mignolet. Mbakogu (gets the assist) tries to get a foot to it but a sliding Mats Hummels takes him off his feet for another penalty to Exeter. Conor steps up once again to pick the exact same spot to gain his hat-trick.

- Liverpool’s goals consisted of giving Can too much time and space in the box to turn and shoot from close range, allowing Sterling in behind the defence in order for him to slip the ball underneath Terzi and an exquisite Pjanić free-kick.

- Jerry Mbakogu finishes the game off with three minutes left. He latches onto the rebound of a Compton shot which the keeper saves but Mbakogu is allowed to get on the end of the second rebound to smash the ball home to make it four for Exeter.

Nice to see some retro kits on Everton in the COC game. As Aquaman said, you needed the league points more than a cup win and that's what you got which is the main thing. You put up a good showing with your second team with essentially their strongest xi, I was sure that Antonio's strike was going in! He had an excellent game btw. Solid win in the next game and as for the Mirallas and Wilson situations, if Wilson wants to leave, I'd let him as you have plenty of striking options. Mirallas however of try to keep as he is quality and as Aquaman said, if a winger gets injured he'd be a great player to bring in. He might even recover his form, like Ceballos did.

Things were looking difficult until you changed your formation and from there on everything went your way. 12 goals in just three games is great, although Liverpool managed to net quite a few themselves. It is really hard to pick just one player who has been better than anyone else since you have a very strong team where you don't seem to rely heavily on individuals. Climbing to second in the league is very good! Also, I'd like to see how your Champions League stands.

I'd say you did a great job in September! Two draws against Arsenal and Leicester are a good start and then you beat a very strong Manchester City side in the cup! Episode #35: EVERTON DOUBLE FEATURE

If you want a great and dominating centre back who has a nice potential, I'd suggest going for John Anthony Brooks. Bias? Absolutely, but he is amazing in-game, especially when he gets to around 80 overall.

The cup game against Everton was a thrilling one and with a tad bit of good luck you could've progressed. Wilson really didn't help his situation, either. Shame about getting knocked out of the cup but at least it's the Capital-don't care- One Cup. Fortunately you did manage to beat Everton where it mattered thanks to an interesting corner kick goal. What is up with you and set-pieces?

And to answer your question about Mirallas and Wilson, I'd say you should sell them for the highest amount you can get and either sign some good starter who you need or sign a couple of younger players for squad depth.

Things were looking difficult until you changed your formation and from there on everything went your way. 12 goals in just three games is great, although Liverpool managed to net quite a few themselves. It is really hard to pick just one player who has been better than anyone else since you have a very strong team where you don't seem to rely heavily on individuals. Climbing to second in the league is very good! Also, I'd like to see how your Champions League stands.

Holy mother of God, that loss against Chelsea! I think I have never, ever seen anyone on this thread concede seven goals against any team (I think Sportsfreak didn't concede seven in his crazy game, might be wrong) so congratulations for that achievement, I guess :P Joking aside, that was one horrendous butchering. Other than that you had an average month with a loss to Arsenal and a draw against Sunderland, but at least you managed to get a draw against a good Real Madrid side and a win from the Villa game. Lukaku scored a solid amount of goals in October and the whole squad is looking very good. Also, being third is good, especially since you can still catch Chelsea in first.

Are you referring to that damn Malaga game in Fifa 15? For your info I won that game 9-6

He wasn't in much of a mood to talk so it was difficult to determine if he was only frustrated with the outcome or also with his squad arguably getting outplayed. Dagenham dominated possession (61%) and had more shots (7 to 5) and shots on goal (4 to 1) than the visitors. But even with that, it was two (rightfully called) penalty kicks which gave The Daggers the opportunity to win the game, so you might understand The Exiles' frustrations.

It took six league games but The Exiles finally showed the dominant form they displayed in the pre-season. After firing some warning shots in the first half, they finally broke through The Cumbrians' defense in the second half lead by their trio up front. After the game Marccelino gave a lot of credit to the fans at Rodney Parade. "They brought great energy to the game and kept it through the end. I think the lads definitely fed from it. We haven't had the start to the season that we all hoped for but it was definitely nice to get that kind of support and we hope to be able to continue to reward them with our play on the pitch."

Different instance, same result. The Exiles replicated the score from their meeting with The Glovers in pre-season and it was Byrne, just as he did in the pre-season opener, who started the scoring for Marccelino's squad, continuing a great run he's been having in the last few games. There needs to be a lot of credit being given to the defense as well, coming up with back-to-back clean sheets.

The B-squad's debut was not a successful one on the scoreboard but the youngsters put on a decent showing on the pitch that gave Marccelino enough reason to continue to play them as needed this season. The Exiles had twice as many shots (9 to 4) and shots on goal (5 to 2) as the home side but they just weren't able to score.

The B-squad may still be working out some kinks but The Exiles' starters are sharp at the moment, and there isn't better evidence to support that than this shellacking of Luton Town, who had come into this game the best defense in League Two after giving up just 4 goals in their first 8 league games. Newport had scored 4 by half time and the game was pretty much over then, although McKay got in on the scoring in the second half to put an exclamation point on what possibly be the most impressive victory by Newport County since Marccelino arrived as head coach last summer.

It was a road game at Hartlepool at the end of last season that kept The Exiles from direct promotion to League One after failing to obtain more than a draw against The Pools, and the home side seemed destined to make Newport suffered once again until McKay made a great run off a feed from Giles in open space and put it at the back of the net for the game-winner on the last significant play of the game. Marccelino and his squad didn't hide their joy in pulling off the victory.

For the second time this season (COC, Rd. 1) these teams met again and this time it was The Notts that came away with the victory thanks to an improbable score from 5'7" Adam Campbell, heading a ball up and over Martinez on a cross from a corner kick. It was a gut-punching score for The Exiles who led 2-1 for a good portion of the game before losing the lead and the match in the last 30 minutes. Marccelino had made it clear he intended to perform better in this tournament this season but his side once again exits the tournament after just one game.

It was embarrassment for the B-squad in this game, especially for the back-four that suffered inexcusable breakdowns during an 11-minute window that all but decided the game. A score from academy-graduate Giles relatively early in the second half gave The Exiles hopes of possibly stealing a point but they were unable to build up on that and eventually gave up a fourth score. Marccelino will have to think long and hard about future plans to play the B-squad given this awful performance at home against a mid-table team.

Luckily for Marccelino it was academy-graduate Jack Giles to the restue in the last 20 minutes, first firing off a shot that deflected off of Josh Coulson to find the back of the net, then rushing to the middle of the box to beat his defender to the ball on a cross from the right wing from Burke. The Italian manager has to be beating himself up trying to figure out how to insert the youngster into the starting lineup.

The Exiles moved to 4-0 against League One opponents in the COC with a nail-biting win against The Shrimpers, who played outstanding defense for most of the game while creating their own opportunities as well. But Martinez seems possessed when it comes to this competition, racking up his fourth clean sheet in as many games, and Gardner broke the deadlock on his last play on the pitch (Klukowski was already on the sidelines waiting to sub in for him). It was Klukowski who then found Arteaga on a counter attack in the final moments of the game to seal a ticket for Newport into the quarter finals!

Review: Keeping this short because the update got long and I still have to talk about the youth squad. The team got in a really good groove there starting with the Carlisle game and other than the struggles of the B-squad we've done real well and we have 1st place to show for. What we've done in the COC is also admirable although we have yet to face anyone outside of League One so the game against Stoke City (on the road) will definitely be a big test and I plan to play the starters for that one no matter what. I said McKay could challenge for the scoring title and he's doing just that, but Martinez may be the more valuable player for us right now with his performances in all competitions.

But on to the academy, you might have noticed in the last update the group grew a bit from what we had at the end of last season and the youth scouts were sent to Denmark and Norwar in search of more talent. No additions to the squad just yet so for now let's just update you on the youngsters, although there is one less player in it ...

- Clark Gordon (CM, 63 OVR, 83-93 POT: Is this 16-year old from Scotland the club's new top prospect? It's still too early to tell but the board was thrilled to find a prospect that could be a future replacement for Byrne.
- Konsta Salo (CAM, 64 OVR, 83-93): Kimmo Rasanen might have struck gold in his homeland of Finland with this 17-year old described by our scouts as technically gifted. He possess rare ball control for a teenager to go with impressive agility and acceleration and he may be on the fast track to a promotion, although his stamina leaves a lot to be desired and as a result he would probably be better suited coming off the bench. Someone to watch for no doubt.
- Bondz Moore (LW, 63 OVR, 81-87): Our top remaining prospect after one season, Moore has higher upside than Jack Giles who is thriving in his first full season. He's also grown to 5'7", 147lbs now that he turned 17 and the Englishman will undoubtedly join the senior squad at some point this season.
- Ben Potter (LM, 59 OVR, 78-84): The speedster from England recently turned 17 years old and has grown to 7 inches (to 5'9") and added 15 pounds to his fram (up to 154lbs). Once promoted he may struggle to find regular PT behind Giles and Moore but we'll figure something out.
- Cristiano Dall'Oglio (CDM, 55 OVR, 77-83): This 16-year old defensive-minded midfielder from Italy will eventually make Klukowski expendable as our backup CDM, and that's motivation enough to continue to work hard in the academy for an eventual promotion.
- David Fox (RM, 54 OVR, 74-88): The youngest member of the youth squad is this 15-year old form Scotland standing at 5 feet tall and 125lbs. Crazy agile, our scouts are very intrigued by how much progress he can show if he commits for a couple of years in our academy.
- Gary Woods (CM, 52 OVR, 74-88: This 17-year old is another Scottish gem. Left-footed and technically gifted, he stands at 6'0" and 174lbs. He needs to hit the ground running in the academy but he's another exciting prospect.
- Patrick Brennan (LW, 48 OVR, 75-81): This Irish prospect recently turned 16 years old and has grown to 5'2", 150lbs. Adeyemi saw enough flashes from him to highly recommend him and we hope to be able to help improve his game since he's still very young.
- Marc Fox (CAM, 51 OVR, 70-78): This 17-year old from Scotland is described by scouts as a playmaker. He may be a late bloomer but we look forward to grooming him.

It shouldn't come as a shock that Mark Miller requested to be promoted to the senior squad after his younger brother, Patrick, was promoted at the beginning of this season. His wish was granted but he understands he will have to earn each and every minute he's given on the pitch. Up to now he's played a couple of times as a sub and performed well considering how raw he is.

Hmm... Danny Ings could do well in attack and Saido Berahino could be another good striker option. As far as wingers go I can't think of any good and affordable British wingers right now. There are a couple of defensive players you could go for, though. John Stones, Calum Chambers, Joe Gomez and Kevin Wimmer are players you could try to sign.

Hmmm, Berahino is an interesting one, ideally it would be nice to have a 2 striker attack with Jordan Ayew, Stones maybe a bit out of my price range but i'll scout him, Callum Chambers is a becoming more appealing should his price be within reason, haven't looked at Gomez or Wimmer will add them to the shortlist and get them scouted!

- 13 shots for Exeter and they finally score as a perfectly weighted cross by Compton finds the head of Lukaku who ran from deep to open the score with a powerful header. (Compton gets the assist)

- Byram delivers a cross into the box where Ross Barkley busts a gut to get in front of the defender to make a spectacular diving header. Marco Silvestri makes a magnificent save but can only watch as Lukaku latches onto the rebound for his second.

- Since coming on in the 66th minute, Une Larsson looked to be having a bad game but an interception and amazing through pass by Nathan Aké allows Larsson through on goal where he casually chips Silvestri for Exeter City’s third with 10 minutes left of regular time.

- Marco Silvestri got man of the match. Three shots might have got the best of him but he really was outstanding with a whopping 18 saves and it would have surely have been 5 or 6 if he wasn’t between the sticks for Leeds.

- After the final whistle, Ross Barkley is given a very warming birthday present from the home fans as a massive cheer erupts as he claps the home supporters. A very happy 27th could have been topped off with a goal if it wasn’t for an extraordinary keeper and the upright on one occasion.

Larsson dinks the ball over his marker and to the unmarked Mbakogu who leapfrogs to get his header past the keeper for the second.

- Saúl finds himself far up field to tackle a Palace defender in their own box. Saúl chances a shot on his left foot but it’s saved. Une Larsson ghosts in and nips in front of the defender to convert the rebound. Exeter look to have won this and it has only just gone past the break.

- Exeter City are out to humiliate the hosts as Chamberlain tackles Palace defender Eric Byrne once again and Chamberlain manages to float the ball into the box where the unmarked Bangoura can causually finish past the helpless keeper in the 61st minute. (Chamberlain gets assist)

- Southampton striker Pierluigi Mancosu passes the ball to Jay Rodriguez who somehow manages to pull a shot off under tight pressure and from outside the box. The ball zips across the grass, past Terzi and smacks off the inside of the post and across the line for a stunning goal.

- It might be a lot messier than Rodriguez’s goal but a corner is cleared more upwards than anything and there’s a scrap in the box for the ball. In the end, the ball drops to Lassane Bangoura who absolutely smashes the ball on the half-volley to level the score up seconds before the half-time whistle.

- Lassane Bangoura deserves all the credit as he manages to fend off his marker on the left in order to run into the box and pull a shot off which is saved. This doesn’t stop Une Larsson latching onto the rebound which gets Exeter their much needed second goal with only 5 minutes of time left. The shot hit the underside of the crossbar and managed to go over the line before it bounced back out; the goal-line technology was played for both sets of fans and the home crowd roared when it was clearly over the line.

@Moose - I like the banter, must be tough staying in Liverpool for a week.

I like the old kits, really look nice. Got to say, a fun episode to watch. First game was a tough loss, the level of difference between the sides was huge. Even the second match was exciting, like these two facing irl. Good win in the second game, I know exactly about being lucky.

About Mirallas, I am a huge Mirallas fanboy (same with Wilson!), so I would love to see him getting more minutes and being impactful. I know he does not fit your plans currently, but try to give him more minutes and see if you can use him. If not, sell him and make move for other signings.

@Cabee - First, you just SMASHED Fulham and Basel, my god. The frontier force is just too much to handle. I had kind of a different question: What is Conor Compton like, as a player?

- Barkley cuts in from the left and is fouled by Pjanić. Ward-Prowse makes the run and chances a powerful shot from 40 yards from the free-kick. Mignolet should to better but the ball ends up hitting the back of the net for an amazing free-kick.

- Henderson is given way too much space to pass to Balotelli who smashes his shot and beats Terzi at his near post.

- Compton gains enough space on the right to dink a cross into the box. The ball falls behind Saúl but all he does is take a touch and then have a shot on the turn which sends the ball past Mignolet and into the bottom corner to make the score 2-1 after only twenty two minutes.

- Barkley gets the ball on the left in the 65th minute from a throw-in deep in Liverpool’s half. Barkley manages to whip a ball into the box where Lukaku climbs above Ilori and head the ball with amazing accuracy into the top left corner where no keeper could reach.

The Fulham and Basel games were surprising! I thought our 4-2-3-1 wasn't getting us enough goals and despite Lukaku being so good, he couldn't handle being all on his own unlike Yaya Sanogo had. So i decided to have a look at some formations and came across the 3-4-3 which looked really promising. I looked at the team sheet and thought it maybe had a bit too much of a reliance on crossing balls into the box so chose a 3-4-2-1 so that my inverted 'wingers' could have more oppertunities to cut in and get in the box if needed and it worked magnificently! The defence gives too much room to the two forwards that are in behind Lukaku so they can pull off some of their insane dribbles and shots which lead to many of our goals.

Oh Conor... I think I have a man crush on him

He's very small at 5'5" which isn't useful for a corner (has scored a couple of headed goals though) and his strength lacks sometimes but he's just an insane player when he's in form. He'll use pace, skill and his close dribbling to get wherever he wants to get to and his left foot alone could have goalkeepers waving a white flag. He has already scored one of my most impressive goals with Exeter by cutting in on his left foot and scoring from far out; I have a video of it but it's extremely poor quality.

Conor fustrates me sometimes though; he has the tendancy to have games where he's just invisible and does nothing of note. I guess it's because of his age but consistency isn't one of his qualities. He also has an awful time when he tries to shoot with his right foot but appart from that, he's an integral part of the team. Think of him as the English Riyad Mahrez.

Remember you said that my frontier force is too much to handle? Might be even more so now that i've got through the January transfer window!
