Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

@Yanks: You had a decent start to the season with big wins over United and Arsenal before following it up with a good September, beating Chelsea and Spurs and sitting in second. Keep the momentum going!

@Indi: You started solidly not losing a game in August, before having a little dip in form at the end of September and during October. Good to see that you've already identified what you need and where you need it. Welbeck has a good mix of pace and strength while any three of the centre backs are solid. Mackay-Steven should be good for you as he always is and Hendo could possibly be a season 2 or 3 buy for legs in midfield. November started well before a couple of losses and then December had some big results and some expected ones against the top teams. Lens and Buckley seem to be coming into their own in attack and from what you're saying Coates has stepped up to. Maybe you can hold off until the summer for a centre half now?

@Rabbit: You're first team continues to get it done, with your forwards really clicking into gear. Massive win over Stoke and well done of reaching the COC semis! Should give you some more revenue going into January. Great to see two Academy graduates scoring, Miller and Collins and it seems Giles is starting to have a good impact in games. Speaking of which, there's still massive quality in there! Shame about Salo's stamina but he should fetch a nice fee regardless if you decide to move him on. Gordon, Moore and Fernandes are my kids to watch. I think that McKay might actually edge Arteaga in the golden boot race as Arteaga seems to be creating more than McKay so he might not get on the end of as many moves as McKay. I think you'll manage to overtake Plymouth in the end because of the quality you've built up and have ready to come out of the Academy.

@JHedges: Congrats on just edging the league! Great achievement, considering their struggles IRL. Nice and realistic goals scored and conceded ratios too. Did you win any cups and you got to the CL semis I believe?

@Moose: I will try and watch the latest video and vote before the next one comes out. Just need to get me some credit!

Results have been immense so far for us. It feels wonderful to be sixth with half the season done and no additions of my own to the squad, plus having sacked Adam Johnson (who's been signed on a free by West Ham). Having talent like Kaboul, Lens, Rodwell, Defoe and M'Vila means this doesn't feel at all like we're punching above our weight, especially as we can easily drop as low as ninth if the teams below us win their games in hand.

As for transfers, it would be best to make as few changes as possible to a squad that's done a fantastic job so far. A natural CAM is definitely on the cards, though at a much higher level than Mackay-Steven. And if I manage to offload Fletcher, I'll need a versatile forward with pace and power. Other than that, I don't see a pressing need to completely overhaul a team that's playing well and growing.

One thing I do want to maintain going forward is keeping at least half of my 23-man squad English (12+ players), with at least four or five of them in my preferred starting line-up.

For English CAMs, a high quality option would be Barkley then Lallana or Ward-Prowse. Other players could be Sigurdsson, Boufal from Lille,
Gaston Ramirez or even bring in Khazri like they did IRL. I like that you're trying to keep an English spine in the team.

Definitely will be going through the last 20-25 pages of this thread today and tomorrow. I want to leave comments before posting any further on Sunderland. Everything looks so good!

Thanks for the suggestions. Barkley seems destined for either United or Arsenal someday, certainly a club bigger than Sunderland. I would consider him a realistic summer buy if we cracked Europe and Everton didn't, but by then I will have already signed a CAM and he's too good to be a backup or play on the wings.

If you're curious to know who I'm considering, this is my five-man shortlist.

Oliver Torres - This guy is peak class. Incredible technique at such a young age, and languishing as a reserve at Atletico Madrid. Deserves better. Very realistic transfer IMO.

Bojan - Another Spanish wizard. Stoke are in the relegation zone in my save and look like they will be going down. They've already lost their best defender in Shawcross to Crystal Palace. No way a player of this class deserves to be in the second division.

                Kaka - <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ld8WEiEgvuE" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="560"></iframe>

                Enough said.

Wesley Sneijder - Out of contract in the summer. I could probably pick him up for close to his transfer fee if I offload some deadwood and ask the board to stretch the budget a bit. He'd finally get his Premier League move, and I'm sure he will help us claim a Europa League spot.

James Ward-Prowse - The second coming of David Beckham. Plays second fiddle to Sadio Mane, but deserves to be starting every week. Ultimate technique player and easily within my budget.

And at honourable mention we have Georginio Wijnaldum, who plays for our rivals and would be a fantastic steal. Totally unrealistic but would add some nice flavour to future Tyne-Wear derbies.

I was actually going to add Oliver Torres in but forgot! Very highly rated and still very young. Bojan is realistic if Stoke look like going down and if you are still flying high in the league in January I can see Kaka or Sneijder joining to continue the push while I think WP could join because of a lack of regular football. Could Wijnaldum become like Figo or Sol Campbell?

I hope so! Call it revenge for them taking Colback! Though honestly I'd rather take Mitrovic...

                        Season 1
                        October 2015

                        Season Objectives:

The Domestic Cup objective is to reach the Round of 16.
The League objective qualify for the European Cup.

                        BPL
                        Manchester City 1 - 1 Newcastle
                        Shelvey 54’
                        Iheanacho 80’

                        MOTM Krul (NEW)

This game didn’t look like first vs second, City dominated us and I’m feeling pretty good for getting a point. City ended the game with 72% possession but we got the ball we tried to keep it so they couldn’t keep pressuring our goal. This resulted in a goal of our own after some fantastic play Shelvey got enough room to shoot from just inside the box and found the bottom corner. City would find their equalizer in the 80’ when they won a free kick that was crossed into our box. Iheanacho, who had just been subbed on, hit a first time volley with his first touch of the game. At this point we played kick ball just trying to relieve the pressure and give Krul a break because he was worked the entire game.

                        BPL Match
                        Newcastle 0 - 0 Norwich

                        MOTM Ruddy (NOR)

Both teams had their fair share of chances but both keepers were playing well. I think this is our first game that we didn’t score in though.

                        Wijnaldum 49’

Wijnaldum was played down the left wing and was able to cut in and beat his defender. He then shot near post just over the goalkeeper’s hand.

                        Tiote 51’ (RED)

Tiote was beat by his man just inside our own half and slide in from behind taking his man out and never getting near the ball. The referee gave a straight red and there were no complaints and we will have to do without midfielder in our next game.

                        Lens 85’

Lens score an easy goal when he was played back post with no defender in sight and simply placed it by Krul.

                        Mannone 88’ (OG)

                        (GIF)

I’m not really sure how the Sunderland goalkeeper screwed this one up but he did and it got us the three points so I can’t complain.

                        Capital One Cup Match
                        Newcastle 0 - 1 Bournemouth
                        Iturbe 88’

                        MOTM Boruc (BOU)

Our second team should have won this game but we were not clinical in this game. Bournemouth was able to score the one goal that would prove to be our demise in the 88’. We gave the ball away with players high up the pitch and they were able to counter us. The ball got squared across the goal and Iturbe had an easy finish into a wide open goal, he nearly missed though and it went in off the crossbar.

                        BPL Match
                        Newcastle 1 - 1 Stoke
                        Ireland 21’
                        Doumbia 54’ (PEN)

                        MOTM Haidara (NEW)

Our third tie this month. This game was pretty even with a good midfield battle with neither team able to take control for too long. Ireland was pressing high up early on and it proved fruitful when we passed back to Krul who took a bad touch and was unable to recover fast enough and Ireland tapped in easily. Doumbia would equalize from the spot though in the 54’. Wijnaldum was pulled down inside the box before he could shoot and the ref pointed straight to the spot.

                        Table:

                              The Bluebirds

                              February 2017

                              February 1, Gresty Road
                              FA Cup: Round 4 Replay

Crewe Alexandra 0-2 Cardiff City (AET)
                              108' Alli, 120' Vokes

                              MotM: Matthew Kennedy (CAR)

Crewe really frustrated us again and it took two extra time goals to settle the tie. Alli made some space for himself on the edge of the box to shoot and score in off the post. Vokes then grabbed a second, heading in Kennedy's corner. He had missed an absolute sitter beforehand but more than made up for it when he sealed our passage into the next round.

                              February 4, Old Trafford
                              Barclays PL: Match 25

                              Manchester United 0-1 Cardiff City
                              36' Williams

                              MotM: Daniel Amartey (CAR)

Williams scored his first goal for the club when he cut in from the left and curled one past De Gea from the edge of the United box. Luke Shaw had a goal correctly ruled out for offside beforehand and Rooney, the league's top scorer, never really got a clear chance to score.

                              Spoiler

                              February 7, Cardiff City Stadium
                              Barclays PL: Match 26

                              Cardiff City 0-0 Newcastle

                              MotM: Daniel Amartey (CAR)

It was a poor game to be honest. It was also our second 0-0 draw against Newcastle this season. We obviously cancel each other out when we play.

                              February 11, Vicarage Road
                              FA Cup: Round of 16

                              Watford 0-1 Cardiff City
                              85' Afobe

                              MotM: Craig Noone (CAR)

We progressed to the quarter finals thanks to an 85th minute strike from Benik Afobe. Noone played the ball into the striker, who rolled the defender leaving him in a one-on-one with Gomes and he didn't miss.

                              Barclays PL: Match 27

                              Tottenham 0-3 Cardiff City
                              13' Whittingham, 52' Phillips, 61' Bruma

                              MotM: Peter Whittingham (CAR)

To come to White Hart Lane and demolish Spurs like we did takes some doing and Whittingham was central to it. He scored the first, sliding the ball away after it bounced around the box in a defensive mess. Phillips added a second after halftime, speeding away from Danny Rose before curling around Lloris. The final nail in the coffin was hammered in by Bruma, the Dutch centre half heading in Whittingham's corner on 61 minutes. It was a comprehensive win, moving us up to 7th.

                              Cardiff City 0-0 Liverpool

                              MotM:
                              Simon Mignolet (LIV)

Afobe had an early chance that he really should have scored but Mignolet came up with the save. That turned out to be one of the few decent chances that was created in a really poor quality game. We did pile on the pressure near the end with four corners in quick succession but ultimately it ended in a scoreless draw.

                              Norwich 2-2 Cardiff City
                              37' Bennett, 70' Stocker
                              49' Kennedy, 90' Noone

                              MotM: Gary Hooper (NOR)

The was a lot of rotation in the team today because of the next game against Swansea in two days time. Cousins, Crooks and Thomas all made their Premier League debuts with Cousins showing his weakness on balls into the box. His height counting against him as he made two mistakes for the two Norwich goals. He failed to get ahead of Bennett to punch away a corner before repeating the mistake with a cross for Stocker's goal. He was however, very good with his shot stopping so if he can dominate his box, he will be a top class goalkeeper no doubt. Kennedy had gotten us level just after halftime when he dribbled in from the right and curled the ball around Ruddy in the Canaries' goal. We would have to pile men forward looking for an equalizer late on and when Alli swung in a free kick we had a chance. The ball fell to Adeyemi who smashed it onto the post, but luckily Noone was there to slide home the rebound just under Ruddy. A hard earned point with an almost completely rotated side.

                              Barclays PL: Match 30

                              Cardiff City 1-1 Swansea City
                              33' Gomis
                              78' Afobe

                              MotM: Jeffrey Bruma (CAR)

Our rivals coming into this game were a point above us in 7th so there was added significance in the result. What looked to be a dream start to us never came to fruition as Muslera saved Whittingham's spot kick 15 minutes in. Chances were created by both sides and Swansea were the first to take theirs, Gomis losing Bruma in the box to head home Ayew's cross from the left. Trickery in the Swans' area made room for Phillips to pick out Afobe on the edge of the six yard box who hit the ball on the turn into the top corner. We will face off again the quarter finals of the FA Cup next week.

                              FA Cup: Quarter Final

                              Swansea City 0-2 Cardiff City
                              8' (Pen) Whittingham, 59' Phillips

                              MotM: Matt Phillips (CAR)

This time around Whittingham sent Muslera the wrong way and converted his penalty after Taylor had taken Phillips down. Phillips had a goal correctly ruled out for offside before he scored a legitimate second. He tackled Naughton on the halfway line after a corner, outpaced him and then shot past Muslera. A sweet win in the derby and we now move into the semi finals against Southampton.

                              Barclays PL: Match 31

                              Chelsea 0-0 Cardiff City

                              MotM: Thibaut Courtois (CHE)

We got another early penalty but Courtois guessed the right way and saved Whittingham's attempt. The Belgian keeper was in top form today, making 9 saves in total and earning a point for his team.

Amazingly we didn't concede a single goal in February, keeping six clean sheets which is something that we're extremely pleased with. Our attack could be improved upon with two 1-0 wins and two scoreless draws but we are still picking up the points and that's the thing that matters the most in football.

Due to a congested fixture list, the youngsters got a run out against Norwich and performed admirably. Not too much of the blame can be put on young Cousins as he's still learning and he still made some terrific saves. Rubén and Mark will just have to work with him on claiming corners and crosses. We showed fight in that game and I'm thrilled that Craig got the equalizer as it epitomizes our team spirit and character. Two more draws in the league isn't great but considering one was a hotly contested derby and the other was against title challengers in Chelsea, they are decent results. It's always nice to continue a cup run and even better to knock Swansea out! Southampton will be a tough test under Koeman but it's the semi final so anything can happen.

Arsenal is a tough game to open the month with while the FA Cup semi final against Southampton is one we desperately want to win to have a chance of defending our cup against either Arsenal or Noriwch. Leicester and Derby are both down and around the relegation places so we will be looking to take all six points from those games while QPR are having a steady season and have hit the magical 40 points so will have nothing really to play for. There's is still an outside chance of a European spot for us so our season is still very much alive.

Thanks for Reading! DO YOU THINK WE CAN DO IT?

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

                                Ok let's do this:

Keano: it baffles me Crewe gave you so much trouble in the F.A. but I was glad to see you work past them. You're making a great run in the F.A. that may pay off if you're not able to get that top 5-finish in the BPL. I'm rooting for you to finish top 4 though but it might be tricky, who are your 3 opponents in May? Hopefully you can finish the season in a strong note. Also, I had to look him up but nice job snatching Denis Suarez!

Moose: Nice edits on the latest video, I think those would be useful for cup finals or something like that. It's been hard to keep up with all the CM's so I hadn't even noticed you were doing so well in the league. I hope you can keep it up and win the league title, there's still a lot of season left. I was also glad to see Antonio continuing to be in your lineup and doing so well for you, I remember him catching my eye in the last video I saw. I voted in your polls too.

Yanks: I believe this is my first time commenting on your CM. Welcome. Newcastle is a solid choice, I used to follow how they were doing back in the day when Norberto Solano was part of the team since my dad was a big fan of him. I'm still trying to figure out how Mannone ate that, it's baffling and you lucked out :P You didn't have as strong an October as I thought you may have given your competition and I hope that doesn't come back to haunt you. It also stinks you saved up your starter for the BPL and your B-squad didn't get the job done in the cup game, I think most of us know how that feels. Still a lot of season left so hopefully you can make up for it.

Aquaman: is that a soccer team or a hospital you're running over there? Brutal injury list. Unfortunately my laptop is having issues running the full video right now (which is weird because I was able to watch moose's just fine) so I'll have to give you more feed back next time.

Hedges: For reasons stated above I wasn't able to watch the video but congrats on winning the BPL, looks like it was a fight till the very end. Looking forward to seeing how you fare in CL next season.

Indi: You gotta give me the standings otherwise I won't be happy. It baffles me that you're in 6th considering what looks like an up-and-down season. I was happy for you for getting that 5-0 W, that had to feel nice especially after so many close L's. I'm intrigued for what you might done in the transfer window.
