Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
I sim some games but the deeper into my career I get, the less likely I am to sim. I spent pretty much all of FIFA '13 on a single Career with Cardiff City. As in real life, I got them promoted to the top flight and had a lot of fun doing it. By the 6th year of my career, I had gotten into European Competition. It was great.
The thing about simming though is I take the $hit with the sugar. If I lose, I lose. No sense and re-loading and re-simming. When I decide to sim a match, I accept the outcome. Injuries are part of the game, too, and that's why bench depth matters so much.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Not sure this is the right thread but it's getting a lot of views so I'd thought I'd ask it here.
I'm playing on World Class, default sliders as Aston Villa. 21 games into the season and I've given up 42 goals. I'm finding it incredibly difficult to defend the computer. I feel like they can dribble it around me whenever they want and there's nothing I can do to stop it. I started off by using the contain (X on PS4) button and trying to be patient but they would blow by my guy using that. So lately I've been just sprinting at them trying to tackle (either just running into them or using the tackle button (circle on PS4). This has worked a tad better, but I still get beat way to often. The computer is too strong and has too good of ball security.
I'm 17th as Aston Villa, one out of the relegation zone. Offense hasn't been as difficult, but if I make a mistake I feel like it's my error, not the computer being superhuman. The frustrating thing is, Pro is way too easy so I'm stuck on World Class.
Any tips you guys can offer for playing defense against the AI?Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
i usually just sprint to defend, only contain if the cpu is getting dangerously close to the box and i want to close the door to force them to retreat. also, it's crucial to not let a player run behind your defense unmarked, always keep an eye on them and make someone cover him asap.
if you don't want to take ron's advice of going full manual and full sim (which i obviously advise too), you may try increasing the cpu pass error slider some points. this will make them less lethal on build-up without having to play on lower difficulty.Comment

I also use sprint, and O/B for my tackles which is a standing tackle.... I hold
R1/RB to call for extra pressure 80% of time.... be carful protecting ur back lineComment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
Started a new career mode up on FIFA 14 for the Xbox One using Orion's sliders; man am I impressed with that game both visually and gameplay wise. It's taken a little getting used to, but I believe that I'm getting the hang of how the game flows.
Anyways, first match was a friendly against St. Etienne. I am Manchester City (they are my team and I have a hard time starting a career mode with any team in the lower division). I disabled the first summer transfer window and so my starting XI for the match against St. Etienne was as follows (I play a 4-2-3-1):
GK: Hart
DEF: Zabaleta-Lescott-Kompany-Clichy
CDM: Fernandinho-Touré
CAM: Nasri-Jovetic-David Silva
ST: Agüero
The game didn't go exactly how I wanted it to, St. Etienne won 2-1, but the two goals they scored were really great. The first one was a early cross into the box that sailed right over Clichy's head to an oncoming attacker who slotted it right past Hart. The next one was just a spectacular shot from outside the box that went into the upper right 90. My goal came from Jovetic and was setup by Fernandinho.
Here's the boxscore:

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
you can also use those sliders on a lesser difficulty, like semi-pro.....
also, 40+ goals in 20 games is insane! i use to play 7min halfs and would always concede the least goals in league...
with that being said, you're really just gonna have to focus on ur defense.... another thing, i know must be plaguing you giving up that many... clear the ball. that simple... bad clearances and passes from ur backline can lead to many easy chancesComment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
I tried slider sets by Orion, Gonira, Zjac, and a couple of others. I ended up taking bits and pieces of them all: Gonira's error sliders, Zjac's line and run sliders, and Orion's movement and positioning sliders, all combined with Krebstar's custom tactics.
Using a popular set is great, but tweaking it to suit you is probably the best way to get what you want. My games are a combination of realism and fun, and I really like what I see and do.
As for simulating games, I don't get why you'd do that on FIFA. I mean, sure... everyone has their own way of playing, which is fine. I just don't see the point in simming whole seasons and then saying you won the Champions League with Swindon Town, you know? And reloading after a loss is definitely not my cup of tea, mostly because losses spur me on to do better. I usually get four or five wins after a loss because I get so meticulous about things.Comment

others I do nothing but sim and see how I do in building a team and having to place trust that the CPU won't screw me. And when I win big in these CMs, even tho I didn't personally win it, my team that I built did win it. That brings me satisfaction.
Then lastly I have CMs that I do both. I play maybe 10-15 games a season( including all CL games) and I sim the rest.
I understand the want to play every game and more power to those that do. I personally get bored playing every game, when I play I want it to have a HUGE impact on the season. when I play games(CM style 3) the loses are painful to swallow and the wins are unbelievable.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
If you are a good team that is getting upset a lot, then the difficulty is too much for you, or you should take a lesser job with less expectations.... but i play 30 min games, no way im restarting after a loss lol
Losing is apart of sports. If you hate losing, then win...
But, then again, some people play sports games for different reasons. I play them because I obviously love sport, and its as close as I get to my playing days lol...
FYI I don't have so much time to spend so I only play 6 minutes halves, so 12 mins in total. Against weaker teams, during the game, I get 6-10 chances to score but against evenly matched or better teams, I hardly get a 3-4 chances. Those games I am happy to win by 1-0 or play for a draw.
You are playing every game with 60 minutes playtime in real time, not counting every pause you make to go to the bathroom, eat, answer your phone or interrupt the game for some reason. And what if the game is freezing when you already played 58 minutes? For me it freezes quite alot (don't know why) so I have to restart the console from time to time. But just the same, what does the scoreboard show at the end of your games? 14- 8? Are those reasonable numbers for a soccer game? And if you score fewer goals, like 2 or 3 in every game, would you like people to tell you your skill is not good enough? Just think about it for a while.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
I usually replay every game I lose to a weaker team. Mostly because I don't have the time to spend on playing every game but also because I don't need to give myself an ego boost. Skill is playing and getting a good result against equally matched or better opponents. At least in my world.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?
well, i honestly dislike your approach of replaying some losses, but that's your call.
when ron said "30 minute games", he meant "15 minute halves". the longer half lenght you can play on fifa is 20 minutes, so there's no way to play a 60 minute game as you understood.
i also play with 15 minute halves, but with simulation sliders that severely affect the default mechanics of the game. shot accuracy is decreased, pace is reduced big time and we use full manual controls, which make scoring chances really tough to create.
ron plays with the same slider set as me. it is posted in this thread:
http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ary-15min.html
i'm playing my liverpool career with these settings. averaging 2.7 goals per game (total goals, not per team). my biggest score in approximately 30 games was 3-3 vs newcastle in a game with two penalties.Last edited by Gonira; 11-27-2013, 10:03 AM.Comment
