Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

    FIFA 15 | PS3
    Season 3 | 2016-17
    Top-four finish | R32 domestic cup | R16 Europe

    Preseason

    West Brom 3-1 Sochaux
    25 Milner
    37 Lopy
    69 Redmond
    76 Ideye

Despite a sloppy first half that ended 1-1, West Bromwich Albion scored two second-half goals to win their first summer friendly. Nathan Redmond showed the form that helped carry England to the semi-finals of the Euros, bagging a goal and an assist.

    Lazio 2-2 West Brom
    7 Bianco
    9 Ideye
    55 Lescott
    77 Keita

The Italians scored early through a thumping header, the visitors responded in kind shortly thereafter, and Joleon Lescott's tap-in was cancelled out by a Balde Diao Keita screamer.

Gardner returns to Sunderland for final spell

Solihull native Craig Gardner has made a surprise move back to Sunderland, two seasons after leaving the northeast on a free transfer for West Bromwich Albion. The former Aston Villa youth product returned to Sunderland for his final spell of professional football after the two clubs agreed on a transfer fee of £1.2 million. Gus Poyet's need for a mobile central midfielder with attacking nous and Gardner's desire to play regular football combined to create the ideal situation for all three parties – West Brom, Sunderland, and Gardner.

    West Brom 2-0 Sevilla
    12 Redmond
    40 Milner (pen.)

The Baggies showcased defensive nous as Nathan Redmond orchestrated the demolition from his new position behind the striker, springing counter-attack after counter-attack. Sevilla managed 17 shots, just two of them off target, but couldn't beat Ben Foster.

    August

    PL: Sunderland 0-2 West Brom
    26 Sessegnon
    64 Lescott

Opening day was another 2-0 win in favour of West Bromwich Albion. Stephane Sessegnon scored against his old side in the first half, while Joleon Lescott headed in off a corner in the second. Ben Foster was untroubled as Sunderland managed no shots on target.

    PL: West Brom 3-2 Newcastle
    4 Redmond
    23 Cabella
    33 Milner
    57 Redmond
    83 Ameobi
    88 Sissoko

A thrilling encounter at The Hawthorns featured five goals and a red card, as West Bromwich Albion won in their first home fixture. Nathan Redmond continued his incredible form with two goals and an assist, as well as by forcing the tackle that cost Newcastle a man.

Podolski swaps Gunners red for Baggies blue

Following last summer's signing of Xabi Alonso, West Bromwich Albion once again signed a tremendously talented player in Lukas Podolski. The talented German, who can play on the wings or in central attack, left Arsenal after the clubs settled on a fee of £4.5 million. Noted for his clinical finishing and ability to play under pressure, Podolski will strengthen a team looking to further its success. At 31 years old, he's not as sprightly as he once was, but there is no doubt that he offers renewed incentive to Brown Ideye, who spent the second half of last season without internal competition after Victor Anichebe's sale to Wolfsburg.

    PL: Everton 1-1 West Brom
    7 Podolski
    56 Lukaku

Lukas Podolski scored on his debut, but West Bromwich Albion couldn't hold on for the full 90 minutes. A combination of poor nerves and substandard fitness combined to deny them a shot at maintaining a 100% record, as they had just two shots in the final 30 minutes.

Champions League draw is kind to first-time Baggies

With their name in the basket in Monaco for the first time in history, West Bromwich Albion would have been looking at yesterday's Champions League draw with a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Eager to participate in Europe's elite club competition, they would also have been slightly worried about drawing several heavyweights in their group. Such fears were allayed as the Baggies were given a relatively good chance of progressing to the knockout stages – they will face the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Celtic and Twente.

PSG will be the most difficult opponents. The French heavyweights won their league last season, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League before losing to eventual winners Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate. Their star player Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to retire at the end of the season, but the signings of Giovani dos Santos and Romelu Lukaku will ensure that they have a strong attack. Celtic continue to dominate the Scottish Premiership but aren't likely to provide much of a threat to West Brom, while Dutch champions Twente should provide an even match-up for two games that both teams will seek to win.

    Press Conference

People were wondering if you would continue the momentum from last season, and you've made a good start towards that. Title this year?

While it's always good to start the season well, it's also too early to read into things. Look at Arsenal and Manchester United, who are first and third but averaging close to five goals per game. Chelsea are seventh, but nobody expects them to finish there. You can't really draw any conclusions three games into the season. We've barely scratched the surface, and it will take until at least November or December for the table to be an accurate depiction.

Lukas Podolski is not a names you were linked with. Why him?

I think Lukas is a phenomenal player. I mentioned last year that I want a team that is versatile and adaptable, and he can play in a number of roles and positions. Like all footballers of his level, Lukas wants to be playing on a regular basis, which is something we could offer him as a team that plays in a way compatible with his own philosophies.

You were surprisingly inactive this summer. Was that due to finances?

The frugality was a necessary measure. As you'll notice, we did not sell any of our key players, and that's down to us being in a position to turn down some very lucrative offers.
We could have put more of last season's revenue into the transfer budget, but it'd have been at the expense of needing to sell our best players to cover other costs. Using the revenue for that let us keep this team in shape and able to kick on from last season.

You wanted to make the Europa League, you got the Champions League, and the draw has been kind to you. Do you fancy progressing to the knockouts?

Finishing as well as we did last season in the league was down to a combination of talent and luck; drawing a relatively kind group was fortuitous. The onus is on us now. We have to do justice to this opportunity by taking our game to the next level. European competition is a cutthroat affair, and we all know what happens to teams that take their opponents lightly.

I have time for just one or two more questions.

You had Everton by the scruff of the neck until you conceded. What happened?

I think we just folded a little bit because of the nature of the goal, with their guy managing to get away with what I believed was a bookable offence just before scoring. We need to be stronger than that, because while we want to improve our defensive performances, we're bound to concede a few goals
with the type of football we play. I also think it being early in the season played a role, as we couldn't keep up towards the end of the 90 minutes.

It's early in the season, and player fitness is not at the level it needs to be. A lot of these lads have spent a few weeks on the beach drinking mojitos and eating seafood, some of them after competing in the Euros. I'm not criticising them, but that sort of thing takes time to recover from in terms of fitness. These boys take care of themselves during the season, so I have no reason to doubt that we should be up and running at 100% by September's end.

Is everyone fit to face Tottenham?

The entire team is available and ready to play. With preseason and three competitive matches under our belts, we're starting to get close to full fitness. This is our first match against an elite opponent, so I expect an open game. Tottenham play to the wingers and press high up the pitch, and that is something to be considered when choosing the team.

That's all I have time for this afternoon, thank you.

A bit up-and-down in the league, but you seem to be in a good moment with the national side. Still, I know how frustrating it is to not win the games you know you can, especially when something as precious as promotion is at stake. I feel for you on the budget issue as well, and though mine is much healthier than yours overall, it's still a pittance in terms of what I need to achieve success.

Players at the level I want cost upwards of £15-20 million, and my entire budget was just £13.5 million. I guess that's realistic in a way, as I can't see someone like Antoine Griezmann moving to West Brom, even if they make the Champions League. However, I would have liked a midfielder at the level of Gylfi Sigurdsson or a striker such as Yura Movsisyan, both of whom were out of the question on this current budget.

But back to Dagenham, I think you can definitely push on and make a promotion/playoff spot. There was a point last season where I'd have been satisfied with a top-six finish, but it eventually got where I would have been devastated if I'd finished lower than fourth. Just keep the course and stick with your team, I'm sure you'll be rewarded for it.

Leicester City announce Ryan Hampson as manager following the departure of Nigel Pearson. The new boss has been employed on a 2 year deal with Premier League survival his main focus.

        Leicester Transfer news

Dirk Kuyt has joined the Foxes for a fee of £2 million. The ex-Liverpool man will provide versatility along with experience in a bid to keep the Foxes up.

Serge Gnabry is another man to sign for Leicester, as he moved from Arsenal on a season long loan. The young German impressed in short spurts last campaign, and with the Gunners’ depth in wide areas, it is sensible move from both clubs and player.

Leicester’s final move of the window was bringing in 19 year old centre half David Costas, who joined from Celta Vigo for £3 million. The Spaniard provides youth to an otherwise ageing position, and can slot straight into the first team setup.

        SATURDAY AUGUST 16TH

        LEICESTER 1
        Vardy 75’

        EVERTON 1
        Barry 65’

Ryan Hampson’s first game in charge resulted in a very respectable 1-1 draw against Champions League contenders Everton. The Toffees controlled much of the match and were unlucky not to be going into the break ahead after some frantic defending and good saves from Kasper Schmeichel. But the travelling fans did indeed cheer in the second period when Gareth Barry slotted in to take the lead. An instant substitution saw the arrival of Jamie Vardy, and his impact was incredible, drawing the hosts level with quarter of an hour left to play. All in all not a bad point for either side, and Hampson will be pleased to get off the mark early in the season.

        SATURDAY 23RD AUGUST

        Hazard 90’

        LEICESTER 2
        Drinkwater 47’
        Kuyt 82’ (pen)

Leicester earned a fantastic draw at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea needed a last gasp equaliser from Eden Hazard to save embarrassment. Oscar has given the title favourites the lead before half an hour was up, but Danny Drinkwater pulled the Foxes level just a minute after the restart after some fine passing play. Leicester controlled the ball thereon, and incredibly took the lead at the Bridge as Dirk Kuyt tucked home a penalty for his first goal in a Leicester shirt. Their joy was short lived however, with Hazard snatching a point for Chelsea at the death. Nevertheless it was a fantastic point for Leicester and Ryan Hampson.

        LEICESTER 1
        Nugent 53’

        ARSENAL 1

Ryan Hampson’s third game in charge was yet another difficult one, but the Foxes matched Arsenal piece for piece in a game of two halves at the King Power. Wenger’s men got off to a bright start, and Danny Welbeck opened the scoring in the 5th minute for his first in an Arsenal shirt. The Gunners controlled much of the first period, but the Foxes came out fighting after the break as David Nugent smashed in on off the post to get the hosts level. Chances were at a premium, but neither side could find a winner with Nugent coming closest seeing his deflected effort hit the bar.

                      December 2016

                      VfL Wolfsburg 2 - 2 Hertha BSC
                      De Bruyne 5', Vieirinha 73'
                      Calhanoglu 7', Aguero 26'

This game between another two rivals didn't end Hertha's inconsistent run of form. The home side took the lead only a few minutes into the game when Kevin de Bruyne curled a shot from outside the box to the top left corner. Hertha equalised only two minutes later with Hakan Calhanoglu's run from kickoff which ended in a goal. The Berliners then took the lead twenty minutes later when Sergio Aguero finished a counter attack. The game then slowed down and Wolfsburg finally got an equaliser in the 73rd minute when Vieirinha cut in from the right wing and finished the in the bottom right corner.

                      Aguero 65' pen, Skjelbred 84'

Going into the last group game of the Champions League Hertha had secured the first place and Atletico Madrid and AC Milan were fighting for second place. Milan needed a victory against Ajax to go through but Atletico needed to lose. The pressure was high and Hertha had an advantage which they took. The first half was pretty even, mainly played in the midfield. The second half started the same way but the game changed a couple minutes after the hour mark. Aguero was taken down in the box and he slotted the ball in the net from the resulting penalty. At this point Atletico needed a victory and they pushed their players forward. The away team took advantage of this in the 84th minute with a fast counter attack which ended in Aguero playing a pass in the box which was finished by Per Skjelbred. Milan beat Ajax 2-0 in the other game and Atletico were eliminated.

                      Player of the Month

                      Sergio Aguero

The last player of the month -award goes to Sergio Aguero. The striker finished six goals in the four games he played this month, including his hattrick against Hannover. The €50 million fee that Hertha payed for him seems to pay off as the attacker has been playing well for the whole season.

                      Press Conference

You finished the year with four wins in a row. How do you feel about that?

It is always nice to end the year on a high note but I think we should have won more games in the last few months. Luckily the games didn't matter and we are still leading by a big margin. We scored a lot of goals and kept a few clean sheets in December which shows that we have improved our playing.

What do you think about the first half of the season?

It has been amazing. We won something like fifteen games in a row and we have lost only one or two games this season. On top of that we got through our Champions League group pretty easily and we are destroying the league. I think this has been a good season so far.

You will play against Liverpool in the Champions League. Can you beat them?

Of course we can. We can beat every team on the planet when we play well. I don't think Liverpool will be that hard of an opponent and we can beat them without being on our very best level.

The transfer window is here. What signings are you looking to make?

Fabian Schär finally accepted a contract offer. Will you sell him anyway?

I don't know. It all depends on how big offers we will receive for him but I prefer to keep him in the squad. I have to go now.

                        Ha Ho He

Warning! The following transfers are extremely unrealistic and they may not make sense!

                        Transfers Out

                        Sergio Aguero

88 Ovr, Striker, 28 Years Old, Argentina

                        €90,000,000

Hertha BSC sold two players this transfer window and both of them left for a big amount of money. The cheaper one of them was Sergio Aguero, who was sold for a fee of ninety million euros which makes him the third most expensive transfer ever completed. He was bought by FC Barcelona where he will form a partnership with his fellow countryman Lionel Messi.

                        Hakan Calhanoglu

85 Ovr, Attacking Midfielder, 23 Years Old, Turkey

                        €100,000,000

The second and last player Hertha sold was the fan-favourite midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. The player joined in the summer of 2015 and he has been an important piece of Hertha's attack and midfield since then. The fans were really sad to see him join a fellow Bundesliga side Bayern München who are also fighting for the title. The huge amount of 100 million euros makes the Turkish player the second most expensive football ever.

                        Transfers In

                        Mats Hummels

86 Ovr, Centre Back, 28 Years Old, Germany

                        Bosman Signing

This transfer window the side from Berlin focused on signing mainly German players and they got two of them on a Bosman signing which means that the players will join in the summer when their contracts run out. The other of the players signed for free was the German world class defender Mats Hummels who has been an important player for the back lines of both club and country. Hummels is a really talented defender who is tall, strong and a really good tackler who also can head the ball really well. It's unknown why Borussia Dortmund didn't offer him a contract extension.

                        Marco Reus

87 Ovr, Left Midfielder, 27 Years Old, Germany

                        Bosman Signing

The second Bosman signing Hertha BSC made was another German star who plays for Borussia Dortmund, Marco Reus. The fast and attacking minded winger is a really good player who has been linked with teams like FC Barcelona and Manchester United in the past years. Reus is fast and he has a really good shot which makes him a really dangerous player. Like in Hummels' case, it was really surprising that his contract wasn't extended.

                        Toni Kroos

85 Ovr, Central Midfielder, 27 Years Old, Germany

                        €2,000,000 + Miralem Pjanic

This surprising deal saw Toni Kroos join the Berliners for two million and the deal included Miralem Pjanic moving to Madrid. Pjanic started the season well, getting two goals and two assists in the first month but since then the midfielder contributed by barely nothing. Kroos will now take his role as the more attacking holding midfielder which suits him well. The German midfielder, who used to play for Bayern München before joining Real Madrid, is a great passer of the ball with his incredible vision. Kroos can also shoot well from range.

                        Alexis Sanchez

84 Ovr, Right Winger, 28 Years Old, Chile

                        €36,000,000

Hertha BSC bought a world class winger with the leftover money from the two sold players. Alexis Sanchez is the man who is meant to take care of the Berliners' winger problems. He joined for just under forty million euros from Real Madrid only six four months after joining the Spanish giants. The Chilean attacker can play everywhere in attack and he is fast, skillful and he is a great finisher.

                        Mario Götze

89 Ovr, Attacking Midfielder, 24 Years Old, Germany

                        €50,000,000

The replacement for Hakan Calhanoglu will be no other than Mario Götze himself. The traitor who scored the World Cup winning goal. Now the young and talented midfielder who is already world class will join the third title contender, just in the age of 24. Bayern agreed to sell their midfielder for fifty million euros as they bought Hakan Calhanoglu to play that position. Götze can play every position in attack and he is a quick player who is also a good passer.

                        Luis Suarez

89 Ovr, Striker, 30 Years Old, Uruguay

                        €50,000,000

The second player who Hertha bought from Bayern München was the striker Luis Suarez. The attacker joined Barcelona in 2014 for about ninety million but two years later he left to join the German giants. Now he will play for another big German team. Suarez cost Hertha only €50 million which is a great price for a wonderful player. Sadly there have been few scandals floating around the player, including his biting accident in the 2014 World Cup.

                          Anderson 30
We lost this match surprisingly due to a failure to clear the ball. Anderson ran through the defence and Allsop was indecisive on whether to come out and Anderson smashed past him.

                          Match 29

                          Blackpool 2-2 Coventry

                          Delfouneso 63
                          Akpom 84

We should have won this match when Tudgay stepped up to convert the penalty after a rash tackle. Rafati equalised, bringing the ball down expertly before knocking into the far corner. Delfouneso then gave Blackpool the lad after his strike partner squared to him, allowing him to knock into an empty net. Akpom equalised on his first game back, beating the defender and curling into the corner.

                          Match 30

                          Nott'm Forest 4-1 Coventry

                          Daniels 72
                          Mackie 77

We got absolutely battered in the second half of this games. Lichaj headed in after a wonderful cross and Assombalonga raced clear to curl into the bottom corner. He then got his second, beating the defender to smash into the top corner. Daniels got one back, curling in from the edge of the box but Mackie tapped in to make it 4.

                          Match 31

                          Coventry 3-0 Derby

                          Pugh 63
                          Akpom 80

We bounced back from our awful defeat to batter Derby in this game. Tudgay curled in the opener before Pugh hit it after cutting past the defender. The keeper got a hand to it but it trickled over the line. Akpom then got his second goal in as many games, sliding to knock past the keeper on the rebound of his tame first effort.

Europa League Last 32 Leg 1

                          Agard 17
                          Nouble 43

An absolutely incredible result in Denmark. Fleck opened the scoring, breaking into the box and unleashing an effort that the goalkeeper will be glad he didn't get his hand to it, as he'd probably have broken it. Agard made it 2, curling in from 25 yards after finding himself in space and Nouble raced clear to chip the keeper to give us a 3 goal lead going into the second leg.

                          FA Cup Round 5

Abeid opened the scoring for the Premier League side, turning his man before smashing into the top corner. Tudgay managed to level it late on, the ball finding its way through for him to knock it in.

                          Swanson 26
                          Akpom 36

Swanson opened the scoring, heading in from a floated cross into the middle of the box. Akpom then made it, 2 the ball played to him and an amazing effort to tuck it into the top corner completely nonchalant. We have now progressed to face Liverpool's conquerors Roma in the last 16.

                          League Cup Final

                          Coventry 1-3 Manchester United

                          Rooney 53
                          Di Maria 60
                          Agard 62

Unfortunately we fell at the final hurdle. Rooney opened the scoring heading in to an empty net after the ball was chipped into the box by Van Persie after a failed clearance by Allsop. Rooney doubled the lead from another goalkeeping error, this time Allsop rolling the ball out straight towards his feet to fire in. Di Maria made it 3, beating the defender before smashing into the corner. Agard got one back, beating the defender to curl into the top corner.

Holy ****ing ****, those transfers. They are quite something lol.

I`m personally not a huge fan of reamping teams so badly but I do think that in FIFA, it makes things really interesting. Your team is certainly one of a kind, but now, I am going to pressure you, you gotta win it all now, if you don`t with that team, then you might aswell call it a failure. lol :P

@jamiec47 You are really fighting for those top spots, it is going to be close, so no slipups and I can see you going next season, keep it up!

I agree with you but those transfers just had to be made. I needed someone to replace Aguero and then the Calhanoglu deal happened. Sadly I will have to sell my striker again because Suarez is 30 years old now.

You are right about winning everything but I'm already out of the cup. Next season we will be the real deal.

is anybody doing Northampton town? I still want to do a road to glory after the Wycombe incident.
