      FIFA 15 | PS3 | Season 1 | 2014-15

      Los Blanquillos

      May 2015

      May 2nd
      Liga Adelante
      Match 38
      Valladolid 1-0 Zaragoza

      Roger 10'

      MotM: Javi Varas

Valladolid dominated the first half and we changed to a 4-1-4-1 in the middle of it to try and win the midfield. We struggled to create chances with this so switched back to a 4-3-3 midway through the second half. Roger ghosted in at the back post to tap in a ball across the box and give the 3 points to the home side in the 10th minute. Roger hit the post again around the 60 minute mark before we came alive in the last 20 minutes with Varas saving shots from Pedro and Álamo. He even saved a free kick attempt from Pedro late on and we were unable to equalize.

      May 9th
      Liga Adelante
      Match 39
      Zaragoza 2-1 Girona

      Hadzic 63' (Pen)
      Tierno 66' (Romero)
      Benitez 88'

      MotM: Vullnet Basha

Another late defensive lapse threw away yet another clean sheet. This is so frustrating! Anyway, we dominated the first half but couldn't score. A Hadzic penalty, won by Tarsi, quickly followed by a Tierno close range finish confirmed our dominance. I wanted to hold out for a clean sheet but it wasn't to be as we left in a similar goal to most games. The attacker runs right into our box to pick up a little slip ball in behind the CB.

      May 17th
      Liga Adelante
      Match 40
      Sporting Gijón 3-1 Zaragoza

      Scepovic 12'
      Muñiz 32'
      Lora 60'
      Borja 62' (Tarsi)

      MotM: Stefan Scepovic

Betis hold a 2 point advantage over us while we have a game in hand. The last 3 games will be tight. We were completely outplayed and dominated in this game. Scepovic got around Cabrera too easily and Whalley really should have saved the shot in all honesty. The second came from more bad defending. Muñiz was allowed to waltz through the defence and pick his spot past Whalley. Lora made it 3-0 having a shot blocked by Fernández. Whalley however had already dived to save the initial shot and with Fernández on the ground Lora had an empty net to tap into. Borja cut the deficit turning inside Julio and firing to the left of Iván. It could have been more with Scepovic hitting the post and others coming close on several occasions.

      May 23rd
      Liga Adelante
      Match 41
      Llagostera 0-1 Zaragoza

      Romero 31' (Suárez)

      MotM: Jaime Romero

Thanks to Gijón we now have to win our last 2 games and hope that Betis slip up in order to have any chance of winning the league. Also after that poor performance by the first team I put my faith in the B Team and they repaid it. It was a scrappy, defensive 1-0 win but a win none the less. I thought that we wouldn't get a clean again when Basha was harshly judged to have taken down a Llagostera player in the area. But Alcolea made a stunning save to keep out Eloy's effort and a clean sheet. Shortly afterwards Romero scored with a first time shot past Moragón.

      Backdrop
Last game of the season and we sit second (88) behind Betis (90) who have had a surge in the last couple of months to be top. After a poor start they rose steadily to be where they are now. We face third placed Tenerife (85) who have a chance of gaining automatic promotion along with Betis, who already have it secured, if they beat us. A draw is enough for us today but if we want to win the league we must beat Tenerife and look for a favour off Valladolid who are facing Betis. They also have something to gain as they currently are one of 3 teams on 80 points in with Mallorca (5th), Valladolid (6th) and Osasuna (7th). Gijón (8th) still have a chance of making the playoffs if they win their game and one of those 3 slip up.

      Youth Academy

      * Denotes New Addition

Jose Baquero - (Spain) RW, 64 Ovr, 82-88 Pot, 17 (Attacker) - The first youngster to join the Academy is Spanish attacker Jose Baquero. He has shown good speed along with ball control and finishing in his initial report. He has settled in the RW slot and the 5'11" attacker has it seems enough pace to play there and also a finishing touch. Bright things are expected.

Jose was promoted on a 3 year deal earning €500 a week. He is a Right Winger that can also play in Central Midfield or on the left side of midfield. The 5'11" Spanish 17 year old's best stats are his Ball Control (77), Attack Position (70), Dribbling (69), Finishing (67) and Long Shots (66). His physical stats are a bit disappointing but we hope that they will grow. Acceleration (57), Sprint Speed (58), Agility (54), Balance (46), Jumping (38), Stamina (44), Strength (47) and Reactions (62).

Gabriel Rodriguez - (Spain) RB, 57-61 Ovr, 74-80 Pot, 16 (Defensive Minded) - The 5'8" 16 year old is the second addition to the Zaragoza Academy. He looks like he will be either a defender or a defensive midfielder seeing as his best stats are his defensive one. Particularly his standing tackle and strength. He has decided to be a right back even though he is left footed. With a lack of pace he is most likely to be a CB. I hope he will grow though.

Rafael Lopez - (Spain) GK, 58-64 Ovr, 73-81 Pot, 15 (Goalkeeper) - The third addition to the Academy is 6'3" 15 year old goalkeeper Rafael Lopez. The left footed shot stopper's best attribute at the minute looks to be his kicking. We hope that he can be our future No.1 as well as his country's No.1.

Laurenco Pauleta - (Portugal) LM/LW/ST, 55-61 Ovr, 72-80 Pot, 15 (Unknown) - Laurenco is the first non Spanish player to join our Academy. The Portuguese looks like a technical player and looks to be a winger judging by his stats.

Well we managed it by virtue of head to head. In the 2 games against Betis we won the first 4-2 and drew the second 1-1. We also promoted our first prospect in Jose Baquero. I'm hoping that his physical stats will grow as they aren't great at the minute for a winger. His technical stats aren't bad though. We'll see how he grows. The Squad review should be up either today or tomorrow. Hope you enjoyed this season Thanks for reading!

What an individual goal by Ox! He beat their entire team on that play and tucked it home to top it off. You really took it to Newcastle and if you had drawn or loss that would have been a real shame. Glad you got to end the season on a win. Third place is really impressive to have taken West Ham up to that spot only 5 points out of first, and the way your team is set up they are only going to continue growing each season.

The youth players leaving is annoying that they all seem to happen at the same time. At least they made it to May for you though, I've seen that happen in early April before which is frustrating beyond all belief.

Happy to see you bring Nolan back even if he doesn't quite rate with the rest of your squad. He has been a player who can get it done for you at times, and he is West Ham through and through.

Since I have little else to do to while away my days in the hotel, I figured I might as well start a new career. Debating which team to pick and I've got the shortlist down to Nice, Sampdoria, Getafe, and Werder Bremen. Thoughts?

Nice looks to have the best foundation going forward to build off of, but if you are looking for a challenge then Sampdoria looks like the way to go. They remind me a lot of Deportivo with all the loaned players on their roster.

First off, I thought Sampdoria. Wanted another Serie A career and then looking at the squads I think it'd be the biggest challenge of the 4. Dealing with all those loaned in players and they also have the highest average age. All be it it's still not too high at 25. Just my thoughts. Either way it's up to you as I would enjoy any of them.

That's a very tough call. All of those teams look exciting except for Nice in my opinion. Ligue 1 isn't really the league with the best quality. Getafe have some alright players like Pedro Leon but they need a lot of improvement. Sampdoria are the surprise package of the season in Italy and they have a good squad with many underrated players like Eder, Soriano and Okaka Chuka but they also have many young players.

Werder are my favourites of those options. Why? They play in the best league. They climbed from the bottom to the top ten in real life. They have an alright squad but it will be challenging. Lastly, they have some amazing youngsters like Selke, Hajrovic and Öztunali. I would love it if you chose them.

Also, I'm glad you mentioned that you are staying at a hotel because I was wondering that. Good luck for the next few weeks!

Heads up... I'm on the original default squads. That's the 23 September 2014 one if you're on SoFIFA. Sampdoria actually have just 2-3 loanees in that squad. I'm leaning towards Getafe or Sampdoria, so it looks like it will be one of those two. Samp looks like they need a bit more building than the others, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to do my all-Italian team with them. Might just restrict it to X out of Y players in the squad to open the game up and make it a bit more interesting in terms of who I bring in.

After Lux saved a shot from Pina, Campbell was the first to reach the rebound and tap it in for the lead. Medunjanin lined up a free kick from the right side of the goal and sent it perfectly over the wall dipping back under the crossbar into the top right corner. Giovanni dos Santos was barely onside when he got the ball on the left side of the goal for a quick strike past the keeper to score the winning goal in the bottom left corner.

                                Athletic Bilbao 2 - RC Deportivo 1
                                ATH - M. Gomez 25', I. Gomez 45'

                                MOTM: I. Gomez

Ibai Gomez sent a cross into the box and Mario Gomez was able to out jump Lopo to meet the ball in the air and head it into the back of the net for the opener. Postiga played the ball to Cuenca on the outside of the box who was able to use his first touch to play the ball ahead for Medunjanin to collect on the right side of the goal and fire a left footed shot inside the near post. Just two minutes later the Gomez connection linked up once again, this time it was Mario Gomez playing Ibai Gomez through on goal for a quick touch to his right and then slotting it past the keeper for the deciding goal.

                                RC Deportivo 3 - Levante UD 1

                                MOTM: Medunjanin

Sanchez got the ball on the left side of the box and dribbled to the middle to get the ball on his strong right foot and fire a shot inside the right post. Guerra played the ball to Medunjanin on the edge of the box and he used a great roulette to spin around the defender and fire a shot across the goal inside the far post. Angelino played a ball over the top into the box for Cuenca to fire a shot that was kept out by the keeper only for Guerra to tuck away the rebound for his first senior goal of his career. Ivan sent a cross into the box and Ramis rose above the defender and his own man to send a looping header over the keeper and into the goal.

                                FC Barcelona 4 - RC Deportivo 2
                                FCB - Iniesta 8', Messi 53', 55', Sterling 80'
                                DEP - Cuenca 47', Medunjanin 85'
                                MOTM: Alves

Busquettes found Pedro in the box and he drew the defense in before laying it off to Iniesta to finish on the open net. Cuenca pushed ahead on the counter and dribbled through the defense to go through and calmly finish on the near post to equalize against his old club. Sterling took the ball away from Insua and sent it ahead to Messi for the easy finish past the keeper on the far post. Messi added a quick second goal after Rakitic picked him out with a cross and he headed it to the far post. Sterling settled a cross and faked out Manuel Pablo to fire a shot that was saved back to him and he was able to finish the rebound. Postiga got the ball on the right side of the goal but cut it back to play it back to Medunjanin outside the box for a powerful strike into the top right corner.

Deportivo La Coruña Player of the Month

                                Haris Medunjanin

Haris Medunjanin was the definition of consistency this month, scoring in all 4 matches. His goals came in a variety of ways, from free kicks, to far post finished, to long range bombs. He has become an irreplaceable fixture in the midfield for Deportivo.

Europe! - We held off the poor run down the end of the season and stayed ahead of Villarreal to secure the last European qualifying spot. We will be taking part in the Europa League next season. This will be a huge challenge with our team going into next season with a completely different look, but it is my job to make sure the team we put out each match is capable of winning.

Academy Update - Fernando Romero and Xavier Arangoa were both called up to the senior squad, but their spots in the academy were supplemented by the additions of Cristian Alonso and Nelson Palacios. This concluded our current scouting trip around Spain, and we have sent our scout on a short 3 month trip to Mexico to hopefully discover more talent.

Staying Put - The rumors of Fiorentina approaching are true, but I have told them that I have no interest in leaving A Coruña. My family has made this city our home, and I have a lot of unfinished business to accomplish here. There is a plan in place, and I absolutely want to be here to see it through.
