As for Balotelli, he also has the defaults for the first two but he is a Target Man. The ball is played to him and he plays it through to Sturridge who has usually made a good run in behind the defence. Either that or Balo smashes it in. Insigne is our man behind the strikers and his instructions are to stay on the edge of the box for crosses. He is not tall enough to win headers but he has a decent shot to finish from the edge of the area. He is also give a Free Roam, meaning he drifts into whatever space available. This also makes space for Coutinho who is set to cut inside and come short, making use of his great shooting from distance. Sterling, on the other wing is the complete opposite, being told to stay wide and get in behind. Henderson's job in the hole is to cut passing lanes which is especially crucial due to Sakho's join the attack instruction to overload the midfield. The other 3 defenders have default instructions.

Interesting... I've never tried giving a striker just the target man instruction as I usually pair it with stay central. Does Balotelli ever drift wide or does the target man instruction alone pretty much keep him central? Also does he drop to ask for the ball at his feet or does he mainly just back into his marker? Wondering if there's any differences to having the target man instruction alone instead of stay central + target man.

I really like your combination of Insigne and Coutinho. Sounds like when things go the way they're supposed to they pretty much swap positions in attack. As I was driving to work today, which shows how much FIFA is on my mind, I thought about trying a 4-2-3-1 with Osasuna. Not the first team, which I want to keep at 4-4-2, but there are times when Davila will replace Palacios and play as striker next to Guillermo. Davila has been outstanding as a lone striker with the B-Team, but paired with another striker he's only been decent. So I thought about the 4-2-3-1 with Davila at CAM and Guillermo at ST whenever Palacios isn't on the field, and now I'm thinking of doing something similar to your tactics where Davila is given the free roam instruction, and Torres told to come short an cut inside. Davila being much faster could drift wide while Torres moves in like a CAM.

I also liked your back line instructions. I used to give my RCB the instruction to join the attack, but when I started to use wingers as full backs it didn't work out anymore. Seeing your tactics I really enjoy how it appears your team changes to a 3-2-2-1-2 (3-4-1-2) in attack, and I love it when teams convert to 3 at the back.

      Lebedenko 68'

Terek Grozny started out the 2013-14 Russian Football Premier League campaign with an impressive 1-0 win at Kazan Arena over Rubin. The Chechen side took advantage of the limited opportunities they created in this tight match, while the home standing Tatarstan side was wasteful. Rubin created the first scoring chance of the game in the 23rd minute, but Bibras Natkho missed an open net, and the Israeli international knew he should have done better. In the 38th minute off of a corner, Terek almost jumped ahead, but Oleg Ivanov's header hit the crossbar and the game went into halftime 0-0. The 68th minute would see Terek break through as Ivanov sent a cross into the box that Igor Lebedenko headed past Rubin goalkeeper Sergey Ryzhikov for the 1-0 lead. The goal had to be very sweet for the veteran Russian midfielder, as Lebedenko played at Rubin briefly in 2011. Rubin would get one last chance to even the game in the 81st minute, but again their shot was wide, this time off the foot of
      Salomón Rondón.

      Ivanov 45'

Match Day 2 saw Terek Grozny host Spartak Moskva at the Akhmat Arena. The club from the capital city opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Diniyar Bilyaletdinov tucked a shot from just inside the box by a lunging Yaroslav Godzyur to put Spartak up 1-0. Terek responded just before the halftime whistle though to even the score 1-1, as
Aílton made a great play dispossessing Juan Insaurralde of the ball and sent a cross over the head of goalkeeper Andrey Dikan that Oleg Ivanov slid and toe poked into the net at the far post. The 2nd half saw only one quality chance, that being from Spartak in the 84th minute, but Godzyur stopped the shot from Rômulo to preserve a draw that both teams deserved a point from.

Terek Grozny Player of the Month

CAM Oleg Ivanov, 68 Ovr, Russia, 27 years old

Oleg Ivanov put in great work from the midfield in both of Terek Grozny's matches this month. The Moscow native assisted on Igor Lebedenko's game winning goal against Rubin Kazan and scored the equalizer against Spartak Moskva while also earning man of the match honors. With his contract expiring in 11 months, Terek will be looking to secure a new deal with Ivanov to keep the Russian midfielders' services for years to come.

      Manager's Thoughts
I'm really happy with the results we pulled from these two games. Rubin Kazan was the champion of the RFPL in 2008 and 2009, so obviously winning at their place is a huge result for us. Spartak Moskva also regularly competes in Europe, and we managed a draw with them. Currently, we're sitting just outside of the European places, although it's still early in the season. We didn't score a lot of goals, but both of our strikes came from Russian players, which is nice to see.

      Terek Youth Academy
Scout Vasili Manakev has been sent to Russia for 3 months. The club is waiting to hear back.

      September 2013 Fixtures
      9/1 - at Kuban
      9/14 - vs Volga
      9/21 - at Dinamo
9/25 - Russian Cup: Round of 16 vs Zenit
      9/29 - vs Anzhi

This will be a tough month for us. I think we can take the 3 points from Kuban Krasnodar and Volga Nizhny Novgorod, but the games against Dinamo Moskva and Anzhi Makhachkala will not be easy. It also isn't ideal that we start our campaign for the Russian Cup against league giants Zenit St. Petersburg. Maybe they will play a lot of reserves.

The target man doesn't always keep him central but when he does drift wide, it's not far. He won't become a winger but he'll go far enough to unleash those curling outside of the foot shots. He tends to back into his marker and it is helpful that he is quite quick as well. As for the back line, it often turns into 2 at the back, Musacchio and Henderson while the full backs overlap. However, as you said, it mainly becomes 3 at the back when attacking and returns to the original when not in possession.

Thanks, haha, to be fair I am older than 21/22... I'm 23! Would've been a perfect pun, though I'm sure then I would've overlooked it and went with something else.

Maybe someone like Jackson Martínez or Ciro Immobile. Carroll and Wickham will be good back ups though.
Thanks fella, much appreciated! That's the feedback that I've been getting all over the place, that I need to bring in a quality striker to lead the line as the rest of my squad is very solid. Jackson would be a monster, so it's a shame that he went to Chelsea and I don't think that I'd be able to snag him from them. Immobile would be quality as well, I'll definitely add him to the 3 player mental shortlist that I had already concocted.

WELL, there is a rumor that West Ham are preparing to offer 7 million for Chicharito once his loan with Real Madrid expire. Hint hint lol

Knowing Moose, he'll probably keep Dybala in the lineup and buy a striker with a bit more physical presence than Chicharito. If you can't get Martinez or Ciro, I have a couple of other suggestions you might want to look at: Christian Benteke, Mario Mandzukic, Carlos Tevez (nice little storyline as well), and Carlos Bacca.

Some really good suggestions haha, I actually looked at a few of those guys already... Chicharito put me off b/c of his salary demands coming from United, and Tevez I tried to sign in a test window just to screw around and I had a couple offers accepted but even for 200k/week I couldn't get him to sign a contract.

Ciro, after being mentioned, actually went high up my pecking order, along with funnily enough Benteke ( ) who was on that shortlist I mentioned earlier with *SPOILERS* Lukaku, Remy, and potentially Sturridge. Thoughts?

Remy is a bit left field, but realistic and could work out very well. Sturridge doesn't really do much for me as a striker. Personally, I prefer him at RW in a 4-3-3 and nowhere else, but he might be good for you. I say do a test buy and play a game with him to see how he does. Lukaku is a big no for me because he'll have the same issues as Carroll: poor balance, poor agility, always falling over. Remy and Benteke would be the ones I'd go after, though Ciro is also a good shout if you can get him at a good wage.

You're looking for a top striker (80+ OVR), but I would suggest looking into Yassine Chikhaoui from FC Zurich in Switzerland as a backup. He's got the complete package of abilities: pace, strength, athleticism, ball control, dribbling, shooting, a 5-star weak foot and 5-star skills. Put him on your bench and he can come on as a striker, centre forward, winger, CAM or even CM in the diamond. He's a 77 OVR at the start of the first season but should be around 79 or 80 for you two seasons in.

Sturridge is just so OP in FUT that I thought I'd give him a shout possibly, not to mention he has pace and quality finishing and is stuck on an underachieving Liverpool side, and the board actually recommended him to me and suggested I needed a better striker haha. For Remy, I figured he was my backup cheap option seeing as he's a bit older, but he's a proven BPL goalscorer for multiple teams and he's 3rd on the Chelsea depth chart behind Higuain and Jackson Martinez. Lukaku I thought could be quality because he's a big bruiser along the lines of a Carroll, but he has a bit more quality in his feet while having surprisingly blistering pace stats (86ish) that could create a lethal counter for us with Rafa, Dybala, Ox alongside him. Ciro looks to be similar to Lukaku but may cost a bit less so he could also be a similar option there. Benteke is also a monster but he's moved to Valencia and may be priced out of our range.

Just looked up Chikhaoui, and he is definitely a versatile beast. The only shame with him that probably rules him out for me is just the unfortunate fact of the roster set I used (September 26, 2014) has his OVR/Potential both at a 74, so he probably wouldn't see much action since he'll be close to 30 as well.

                          Birmingham City 1-2 Norwich City
                          (Thomas 3')
                          (Tettey 58', Hooper 62')

On a high after winning against Sunderland in the FA Cup, We came up against top team Norwich. We capitalised early when Thomas found the net only 3 minutes in to give us the real early lead. Both teams had their chances but we went into the break 1-0 up. Norwich from Half Time dominated and finally got what the deserved in the 58th when a shot deflected off Randolph saw Hooper chest it to Tettey to tie the game up and only four minutes later, Norwich hit the lead when a good cross found the head of Hooper who powerfully hit the crossbar and into the top corner giving Randolph no chance. We struggled to break them down and in the end lost.

Gaspar: Norwich showed why they are on top, they played extremely well to win after being down so early. We didn't show that much attacking threat and that cost us.

                          Championship - City Ground, 10/2/15
                          Nottingham Forest 1-3 Birmingham City
                          (Paterson 12')
                          (Thomas 68' 86', Rantie 79')

After the loss we started this game in the worst way when Paterson headed near post into the near corner, we dominated after with Nottingham Forest playing defensive, We finally levelled the game up when Thomas powered through the defence to level the game, 11 minute later Rantie finessed it passed the keeper after we went on a counter with the defenders still in the box after the corner. Forest had bodies up and we used that to effect as Thomas's powerful shot hit the crossbar and in.

Gaspar: Thought we played well and showed character in the way we came back from a goal down, especially after a while being behind. Our counter attacking is extremely deadly and I'm happy how the can counter and think we can scare many teams.

                          Championship - DW Stadium, 14/2/15
                          Wigan Athletic 0-0 Birmingham City

Dull game, both teams had chances but they weren't proper chances.

Gaspar: Good defensive performance but we didn't have the chances to win, disappointed.

                          Championship - St Andrew's, 17/2/15
                          Birmingham City 2-0 Reading
                          (Rantie 70' 90+5')

We played a weaker team due to the FA Cup tie in 4 days however, saw our better defender in David Edgar go down with a broken shoulder inside 10 minutes, with this saw Reading dominate and if it wasn't for strong defending we would have conceded. We subbed in Rantie and with his pace he changed the game scoring his first cutting in from the wing to place it past the Reading keeper. And did the same with his second goal after Reading tried to score an equaliser.

Gaspar: Disappointed to lose Dave (Edgar) to injury, physio said it wasn't good but we will see the scans to confirm, they say it's a broken shoulder! As far as the game, we defended real well and got the rewards on the other end, we deserved the win and clean sheet.

FA Cup Last 16 - Vicarage Road, 21/2/15
                          Watford 3-4 Birmingham City
                          (Forestieri 14' 38' Morrison 77')
                          (Rantie 31' 45+3' Thomas (PEN) 81' Gray 90+3')

Forestieri opened the scoring 14 minutes in after a cross found his had to calmly place it past Randolph. Rantie made one a piece when he placed it under the young keeper in Bond. However, Watford regained the lead a short time later with a low cross curved into the far corner to give Forestieri his second. We did however go into the break even when Rantie got on the end of a brilliant through ball to finesse it past Bond. Both teams had a crack at scoring the goal to put them ahead and Watford did do that in the 77th when James Morrison was played onside by our fullback to place it past Randolph. We attacked strongly and only four minutes after we won ourselves a penalty when Thomas was brought down by the Watord defender just at the top of the box. Thomas powered past Bond too make it 3-3. The game was headed for a replay as we went on the counter as Thomas found Gray cutting in through the middle of the box and scored to give us the win and advance through to the next round of the FA Cup to face Sheffield United.

Gaspar: What's with Watford and Birmingham having high scoring games? These games really promote the FA Cup and Championship and am very happy to win the game. We have a really good chance to get to Wembley after just missing out in the Capital One Cup, Proud of the boys.

                          Championship - Ewood Park, 28/2/15
                          Blackburn Rovers 1-2 Birmingham City
                          (Ornskov 45')
                          (Thomas 70' 90+5')

After the FA tie a week earlier the team was buzzing and showed that putting Blackburn under immense pressure. But, against the run of play at the tick of the 45th minute Ornskov placed the ball under Randolph to give the Home side the lead against the run of play. We attacked from the word go and finally got our reward when Thomas got in behind the tight Rovers defence and scored to level it up. And as it was going to finish as a draw a break saw Rantie with the ball as he past it to Thomas who scored the winner from 3 yards out with seconds remaining

Gaspar: Like the Nottingham game, the team showed great character with coming from behind, and showed even more character winning the game when most thought it was going to be a draw. Extremely happy with how the team's performing.
