    FC Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast
    The Ural Men

    Winter Transfer Update

    Bought

ST Zaur Sadaev, 66 Ovr, 26 years old, Russia
    Purchased from Terek Grozny for
    €825,000

RM Batraz Khadartsev, 63 Ovr, 22 years old, Russia
    Purchased from Anzhi Makhachkala for
    €850,000 + CDM Artem Fidler

    Sold

RM Edgar Manucharyan, 67 Ovr, 28 years old, Armenia
Sold by board due to homesickness to Kuban Krasnodar for
    €850,000

    End of Loan

ST Carlos Strandberg, 70 Ovr, 19 years old, Sweden
    Returns to CSKA Moscow

    Manager's Thoughts
I'm happy with what we did in the window. Zaur Sadaev is a solid striker, and Carlos Strandberg was underachieving. Batraz Khadartsev has good potential, and Artem Fidler was not in our long term plans. I hate losing Edgar Manucharyan because he got a lot of playing time due to Chisamba Lungu's injuries, but he didn't want to be here anymore. My plan is to have Khadartsev fill his role.

        TRANSFERS

OUT: See "IN" section. Also the loans for Jazzi Barnum-Bobb and Tommy O'Sullivan ended. Corey Shephard (47 OVR) has been loaned for two years to Portsmouth.

IN: Jack McKay (60 OVR) - the 19-year old English striker was acquired from Doncaster for €100K + Nathan Ralph. The left-footed McKay possesses raw talent to go with outstanding physical stature (6'3", 187lbs); Taylor Moore (60 OVR) - another promising acquisition comes in the form of this 18-year old from England who was purchased from RC Lens for €50K _ Lenell John-Lewis. Much like McKay, Moore has good raw potential that makes him a prime candidate for a starting spot once Donacien's loan deal expires. Both players signed 5-year deals with the club.

        Starting XI (4-4-2 Diamond Wide)

        Day

        Holmes/Donacien/Taylor/Twunasi

        Gardner

        Burke ------------------ Elito

        Byrne

        Arteaga / McKay

        F.A. Cup - Round 3
Newport County - Yeovil Town (1-1)
        Elito 40' (Byrne)
        Dawson 45'

An action-packed game finished with no-winner after 17 combined shots, 10 of them on goal, only yielded a couple of scores within 5 minutes of the end of the first half. Neither team controlled possession and while the visitors took more shots it was the home team who put more of their shots on target. The replay should be a good one.

        League Match 25
        Morecambe - Newport County (2-2)
        Miller 13'
        Miller 17'
        Byrne 26'
        Gardner 67' (Burke)

After the game Marccelino didn't know whether to be disappointing at the two quick scores given up inside 20 minutes, so instead he showed pride in his team staying resilient and stealing a point on the road.

        Gardner's goal:

        F.A. Cup - Round 3 replay
Yeovil Town - Newport County (1-2)
        John-Lewis 10' (Byrne)
        Beck 27'
        Byrne 42' (Arteaga)

It was yet another grind-it-out game between these League 2 clubs but this time around Newport used their edge in possession (57%) to get better shots on goal and win by the minimum difference.

        League Match 26
        Newport County - Portsmouth (2-0)
        Gardner 45+' (pen)
        Arteaga 59' (Burke)

This battle betwen top-7-squads belonged to The Exiles, who were opportunistic with their shots on goal in a game that could had gone either way.

        F.A. Cup - Round 4
        QPR - Newport County (1-1)
        Austin 40'
        Gardner 45+' (pen)

Media refers to this as the GGG (Gary Gardner Game) after Newport's defensive midfielder was heavily involved in both scoring situations. The Exiles succeeded for the first 40 minutes of the game in proving to the Championship title contenders that they were not to be taken lightly, but unfortunately all that work had suddenly been wasted when a weak clear-out cross from Gardner hung over the Newport box and Austin wisely raced to it to one-time it to the back of the net. Newport players could be seen trying to cheer up Gardner who was visible upset with himself after a very poor mistake. But soccer can be very beautiful, and just a few minutes later a penalty kick was awarded to Newport and it was Gardner - as he has done all season - who took the kick and scored to equalize the game. The second half would be a grueling battle that would make both goalies heroes and there will have to be a replay at the beginning of next month.

        League Match 27
Plymouth Argyle - Newport County (2-3)
        Mellor 5'
        Boden 45+' (Klukowski)
        McKay 57' (Rodman)
        Byrne 78' (pen)

        Simpson 82'

The Exiles wrapped up February with hard-earned victory on the road that was as close as the score suggested. The B-squad got the job done once again and Jack McKay scored in his debut after a corner kick from Rodman was overplayed by the Plymouth keeper. After Newport earned a penalty kick with less than 15 minutes left in the game, Marccelino wisely subbed in Byrne to take the kick and his decision proved right when the Irishman scored to make it 3-1. But even the game felt like it was up for grabs, and Newport scrambled to defend their goal during the last 10 minutes after Simpson put the home team within one score.

        Top Scorers

        ...
        T5 - Byrne (Newport County) - 4

        3 - Gillespie (Carlisle United) - 9

Review: It's hard to complain about an undefeated month. Still, it's also hard not come away from this F.A. Cup games feeling like we should win them the first time around, and the extra games resulting from the replays aren't exactly helping our limited roster/depth. That's going to be a BIG challenge next month. But what an amazing season we've had in the league: 5th place, 4 points behind the leader and 9 points clear of staying out of the playoffs. Board expectation was a for a mid-table finish, perhaps put some pressure on playoff teams, but at this point we shouldn't settle for anything less than a playoff spot and direct promotion is a definite possibility (a league title, perhaps?). About the transfer period, it's not hard to explain. Ralph wasn't in neither our short-term nor long-term plans and while John-Lewis had had a good season for us he wasn't someone to count on long-term. McKay and Moore are young guys with potential in the mid-70's that should be part of our core group for a few seasons. We also tried to bring back Barnum-Bobb and O'Sullivan but the budget just didn't permit it. We must have received 15-20 offers for Joe Day, none bigger than €300K, but there was no way we were letting him go with limited funds to acquire a replacement (Green isn't ready)

Our youth scout, Adam Adeyemi, had sent us his 2nd report from Italy and one new addition has been made to the academy, so let's check out the youth squad:

        - Bondz Moore (LW, 58 OVR, 81-87 POT): Small frame (5'0", 134lbs) is a non-issue with this 16-year old Englishman due to his talent. He is speedy/agile/balanced and has been performing well in drills so far.
        - Cristiano Dall'Oglio (CDM, 47 OVR, 75-91)*: 16-year old defensive-minded midfielder from Italy is the newest addition to the academy. He flashes leadership skills at a very young age.
        - Danilo Sabbione (CM, 49 OVR, 72-88): This 16-year old from Italy is our first addition to the squad from outside England. He's raw but has a bright future.
        - Ben Potter (LM, 53 OVR, 72-86): This 16-year old from England looks similar to Moore but prefers to play a bit closer to midfield.
        - Jack Giles (RW, 62, 74-82): Has been offered a 3-year contract to join the senior roster.
        - Taylor Nelson (LW, 55, 69-81: The 17-year old from England is flashing a little bit of everything right now (offensively) and has hit the ground running hard to improve his game.
        *recent addition

        What's next:

Yup, 5 games in 12 days. Then once we finally get back a normal schedule it'll be for showdowns against teams we're chasing in the standings. FUN FUN FUN!

Somehow I missed this comment. Sorry, Keano. I'm pretty sure I was drunk last time I was on here (surprisingly my Ural update turned out OK). Yes, promotion seems assured, and I was beginning to question if I was going to continue to this CM...which the good news is, I will! About Aveldano, you're right, all his goals are from set pieces. Hopefully I can get an update out this weekend and comment on everyone's careers.

              The Bluebirds

              December

              December 5, New York Stadium
              FL Championship: Match 21

              Rotherham United 0-0 Cardiff City

              MotM: Adam Collin (ROT)

It was a story of missed chances as Iheanacho hit bar and Ince missed a late chance that he really should have taken. Credit to Rotherham and especially Collin in goal who had a stellar game.

              December 13, Cardiff City Stadium
              FL Championship: Match 22

              Cardiff City 3-0 Reading
              35' 75' Jones, 50' (Pen) Whittingham

              MotM: Kenwyne Jones (CAR)

Rohan Ince had the chance to score again but his long range effort agonisingly struck the woodwork. Jones would then silence his critics with a brace after a 10 game scoreless run. Whittingham put the striker through and a cool finish followed. On loan Ameobi then won a penalty which Whittingham converted calmly for a two goal lead. To finish the game off, Jones got some luck to turn home the rebound after hitting the post with his shot.

              December 19, Falmer Stadium
              FL Championship: Match 23

              Brighton 2-3 Cardiff City
              2' Jones, 41' Pilkington, 72' Noone
              61' Baldock, 80' Murphy

              MotM: David Marshall (CAR)

We raced into a surprising lead with Amartey assisting Jones for a quick first. Jones then turned provider supplying Pilkington for a smart finish. A piece of poor defending gave Brighton and Baldock a goal back but Noone tucked away a perfectly executed counter attack to restore our two goal cushion. A stunner from Murphy, the leagues top assister, made for a nervous last 10 minutes but we held out for a massive win.

              December 26, The Valley
              FL Championship: Match 24

              Charlton 0-5 Cardiff City
              6' Macheda, 22' Whittingham, 35' Ince, 44' 60' Amartey

              MotM: Federico Macheda (CAR)

Just when we thought it couldn't get any better we go out and thump Charlton 5-0. Macheda made good on his start with an early goal and two assists. The game was over by halftime, with Whittingham, Ince and Amartey all getting on the score sheet. Amartey grabbed a second on the hour mark and Charlton looked a dejected side. That's now two important wins in a row.

              December 28, Cardiff City Stadium
              FL Championship: Match 25

              Cardiff City 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

              MotM: David Marshall (CAR)

After our game just two days earlier a heavily rotated side had to be played due to fatigue against a high flying Wednesday who are battling for promotion. Not many chances were created by either side as both lacked a creative influence in the final third. The main thing is that we didn't lose and we continue our push for the play offs.

We enjoyed an excellent December gaining 11 points from a possible 15 meaning we move up to 8th from 13th. It leaves us in a five way battle for the final playoff spot between ourselves, Middlesbrough, Wolves, Hull and Forest who currently occupy the position.

January presents a tough month with crucial matches against Hull and Reading while Fulham will be a test to overcome as well. Add in to the mix an FA Cup tie against Rochdale, and the potential for a replay as well as the next round should we get to it, and we could have a very congested schedule. 6 points is a minimum but 9 are wanted as we aim to break into the top six.

The January window is also open which means we will be looking to offload some players and to add to our squad. Kenwyne Jones will be leaving as he has failed to make an impact. We will also listen to offers for forwards Eoin Doyle and Joe Mason meaning a striker is on the agenda. Another attacking midfielder is on my shopping list to provide cover and competition for Peter Whittingham while we are looking to add depth to our deeper midfield positions. A winger may also come in, depending on funds and whether we can get them at the right price.

              Thanks for Reading!

                The Bluebirds

                January

                Transfer Window

Adam Le Fondre Recalled from Loan at Wolves

After a less than successful loan stint at Wolves, Adam returns to us to challenge for a first team spot with Kenwyne Jones possibly on the move. Adam is a natural finisher who doesn't rely on either his strength or pace to score, rather on his positioning and instinctive finishing.

Jonathan Williams Loan from Crystal Palace

The young Welsh international joins on loan until the end of the season. He's not got much of a look in at Palace under Pardew and they were keen to agree a short team deal for the attacking midfielder. He will challenge Whittingham for a first team spot and be a useful player across the midfield.

Sam Vokes £2 million from Burnley

Sam is the second Wales international to join the club this window. At only 26 he still has his best years ahead of him and could be a steal for only £2 million. He's a traditional number 9 but is still well capable with the ball at his feet and he knows where the back of the net is. He will take the number 9 shirt vacated by Kenwyne Jones.

                Marcus Bettinelli Pre-Contract from Fulham

Marcus will arrive in the summer when his contract with Fulham runs out. As an England U21 international, he certainly has the quality and the potential to become a top class goalkeeper. He will primarily be a back up to Rubén however.

Matt Phillips £2.8 million from QPR

Our most expensive signing of the window was Matt from league leaders QPR. A reduced fee was agreed due to the fact that his contact was running down. He is an explosive winger and can pick out a cross as well. He will be a key player during the second half of the season as we aim to maintain our spot in the playoffs and push on for automatic qualification.

                Nathaniel Chalobah Loan from Chelsea

Nathaniel is a highly rated midfielder and Hiddink decided to let him leave on loan to gain more first team experience. We were more than happy to take a very well rounded midfielder who can both attack and defend.

                Dele Alli Loan from Tottenham

Our second loan signing of the window was Dele Alli from Spurs. Also a midfielder he has a great engine and can make powerful runs from deep. The depth is crucial as our fixtures are starting to pile up.

                Out

David Marshall £9 million to Giron. Bordeaux

David was a massive part of our solid defence but the fee and the chance for David to play in another country were to much to pass up. David is into his thirties now and couldn't resist the opportunity to play abroad.

Kenwyne Jones £2 million to Norwich

Kenwyne never really got going for us and although he had a little pick up in form, Norwich came calling and gave him one last shot in the top flight. When they met our asking price we had no qualms in letting the lad go.

                Adedeji Oshilaja Loan to Fulham

                Kadeem Harris Loan to Shrewsbury

Both Adedeji and Kadeem were sent out on loan to further their development as we couldn't guarantee them the game time they needed in a pivotal moment in their careers.

Eoin Doyle £500k to MK Dons

Joe Mason £875k to Derby County

                Stuart O'Keefe £600k to Wolves

All three were squad players and were unhappy with their playtime. Irish boys Joe and Eoin made their way to Derby and MK Dons respectively while Stuart arrived at Wolves in the late hours of deadline day.

                FA Cup: Round 3

                Rochdale 1-1 Cardiff City
                3' Vincenti, 90' Lancashire s/o
                50' Dikgacoi

                MotM: Rubén Blanco (CAR)

The team was rotated for a supposedly easy game against a League One side. It turned out to be quite the opposite with the home side netting within five minutes. Vincenti headed in a corner past Blanco, out jumping two defenders to meet the delivery. We proceeded to squander numerous chances throughout the game culminating with Iheanacho missing a last minute penalty. The striker stuck his attempt off the crossbar and gave Rochdale a replay.

                FL Championship: Match 26

                Hull City 2-3 Cardiff City
                79' 90+4' Clucas
                41' Iheanacho, 85' Ince, 90' Macheda

                MotM: Sam Clucas (HUL)

A Pilkington cross with four minutes left in the half for Iheanacho gave us a lead going into the break. Poor defending allowed Clucas an equalizer but a sweet strike from Ince gave us a goal advantage going into the final five minutes. With Hull pressing for another equalizer they left space at the back for us to exploit. A corner was cleared as far as Ameobi and he played a long ball over the top for Macheda. He held off Dawson before smashing past McGregor for the insurance goal. Clucas would peg back a goal after some more lazy defending but we earned an important three points.

                January 13, Cardiff City Stadium
                FA Cup: Round 3 Replay

Cardiff City 1-1 Rochdale (4-3 PENS)
                40' (Pen) Ameobi
                51' McDermott

                MotM: Josh Lillis (ROC)

Jonathan Williams made his debut in a dominant performance from us. We started well with Macheda hitting bar with header and Williams forcing fine save fron Lillis also with a header. We took the lead through an Ameobi penalty before McDermott equalized with an excellent side bicycle kick. Thanks to Lillis we couldn't score again and penalties were needed. Blanco made two excellent saves in that shootout to send us through to face Championship rivals QPR in the next round.

                January 16, Cardiff City Stadium
                FL Championship: Match 27

                Cardiff City 2-1 Fulham
                56' Ince, 69' (Pen) Whittingham
                90' Pringle

                MotM: Rohan Ince (CAR)

Iheanacho chipped the ball over the defence into Ince who held off two defenders before slotting the ball home for the opener. Iheanacho was then tackled late winning a penalty which Whittingham coolly converted giving us a two goal cushion. Pringle pulled one back in the last minute with a very scrappy goal.

                January 24, Loftus Road
                FA Cup: Round 4

                QPR 0-0 Cardiff City

                MotM: Rob Green (QPR)

It was a tale of two goalkeepers being in top form with Green making nine saves and Blanco making a further five. Probably the best chance fell to Williams late on after he dispossessed the defender but former England No.1 Green was there to make the save. There was a first start for Vokes and we sustained early injuries to Noone and Amartey. Both were injured within the first 20 minutes.

                January 30, Madejski Stadium

                Reading 1-1 Cardiff City
                66' Sá
                23' Ince

                MotM: Rohan Ince (CAR)

Rohan Ince pounced on a deflected shot to score past a helpless Al-Habsi as he was unable to adjust his positioning in time to deal with it. Orlando Sá leveled the scoring for the home side after they split us open on the counter attack. Sá with a rocket of a shot into the top corner to finish the move off.

We have managed to break into the top six on goal difference and are only a point behind both Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday. A six point gap to QPR in first means that it's not impossible to go for the title but staying in the playoff positions is definitely our aim.

February starts off with an outrageous two games in two days. It's absolutely ridiculous! Our only real test aside from QPR is Middlesbrough as both MK Dons and Rotherham are in the lower half of the table and Forest have capitulated this month, sliding down to 11th from the playoffs. We cannot underestimate anyone however and tight scheduling means we may drop points we shouldn't.

Thanks for Reading! Please let me know what you think of the signings and whether you think they are realistic or not. (I know IRL Alli wouldn't leave on loan but based on his ingame Ovr I think he would.)

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

"Indi, give me a buzz ASAP. Something big has happened."

This is one of those times when I think Luke might just be in over his head. All I asked for was a little peace and quiet before beginning my first season as the manager of Brighton & Hove Albion. Yet even on this fishing trip, there was no way my agent was going to let me have a minute's rest. Fine, I might as well call him.

"I swear to you, Luke. Someone better have died."

                  "Yeah. Tony Bloom."

                  F*ck me.

"Wouldn't happen to be the same Tony Bloom who owns the football club I work for, would it?"

                  "Owned."

                  "Right. How?"

"Night out with a few mates. They were coming out of a pub. Tony crossed the street to get his car and got hit by a bloke pissed out of his mind and behind the wheel of an S class. Died on the spot."

                  "Bloody hell. When's the funeral?"

"There isn't one. Tony wrote in his will that he wanted to be cremated and his ashes scattered in the sea by the Promenade. Nobody but his wife and kids are allowed near the remains."

"Well, if that's what the bloke wanted. Listen, I'm packing up and heading back to the city. We'll raise a glass to Tony, but then we need to figure out what's going to happen with my career."

"Yeah, that's the other reason I called. Tony left notes on the future of the club in his will. That was updated about a week after you signed. Mate, he was really fond of you. Thought the world of you and that you'd be the one to take this club forward in ways only he could imagine. There's a lot to talk about before the will gets read tomorrow."

"Right. See you in a couple of hours."

Tony Bloom's dead. Bugger, of all the people to have gone in such a sad way, why'd it have to be the fella who showed more faith in me than anyone else ever has?

                  THE NEXT DAY...

"If everyone's gathered, I think we should begin. Linda, are you ready?"

                  "Yes, Nigel. We can start."

"Right. Ladies and gentlemen, as you know we are gathered here to hear the last will and testament of Anthony Grant Bloom. Each of you is in this room because Tony left some possession or instruction for you. As his attorney and executor of his estate, it is my job to ensure that these terms and directions are met to the satisfaction of Tony's next of kin."

"I, Anthony Grant Bloom, being of sound mind and body..."

                  SOME TIME LATER...

"To my close friend and chief executive Paul Barber, I leave the directorship of Brighton & Hove Albion, with trust and faith that he will put the interests of the club and its fans first, and guard it from those who would otherwise leverage the club for their personal gain."

"No disrespect, but why are we here Luke? This is going on forever and we haven't even been mentioned."

"Keep your voice down, Indi. Perk your ears up. Here we go."

"And to my beloved Brighton & Hove Albion itself, the one thing I loved as much as my dear wife Linda, for whom I hope and pray I have provided sufficient material care, I bequeath the sum of £50 million with the following instructions. First, this money must be used solely and exclusively for the purposes of strengthening the first team. Second, this money may be used only after the promotion that's eluded us for the past several years has been achieved. Third, this money must be used with Indi Blue as the manager of the club. I believe that he is the right man to lead this club forward, and should he be terminated from his position, this money is to be donated to the Great Ormond Street Hospital. Paul Barber is aware of my arrangement with Mr. Blue, the model of administration and management which is to continue in my absence, and the faith I have in this highly capable, intelligent and promising young man."

Is this really happening right now? Has Tony Bloom seriously left me £50 million to spend once I get Brighton into the Premier League?

"Mr. Blue, you'll be briefed further on this by Mr. Barber and Mrs. Bloom after the reading. Do you have any questions for me?"

                  "No, sir. None at all."

"Very well. To my childhood friend and confidante James Butler, I leave..."

                  AT DINNER THAT NIGHT...

"So that's the whole story, Indi. Linda will be in place as chairman of the club, and I'll serve as her executive director as well as her advisor. This will be enough to protect the club from any potential damage from within. And anyway, Tony has already made it clear that whatever funds he's left for the club will be donated should the ownership of the club change hands. See, he's set things up for his boys to take over when they're old enough. Until then, he's very clear that he wants Linda and myself at the helm and you in charge of footballing matters. It's going to be a long road, one of learning. For all of us. If you're not in for the long haul, maybe we should assess this plan and decide whether..."

"Paul, I'm in. There's no two ways about it. Tony wanted this. Linda wants it, so do you. And I want this more than anything else."

"So it's decided then? Indi Blue, manager of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club. Long-term."

                  "Sounds wonderful to me, Paul."

"And to me as well, gentlemen."

"Right, a toast is in order. To Tony Bloom, a man of vision and desire, of passion and commitment. Let us honour his life's work."

                  "To Tony."

                  "To Albion."

                  TO ALBION

I'm back home. It's time to go 15 seasons with Brighton. The first summer transfer window will be open. Deadwood out, and three or four players in. I will activate a financial takeover in the summer after promotion.

Remember the glory days of Bendtner & Buckley. Remember the industry of Bridcutt and the guile of Aranguiz. Remember the pride of achieving more than we ever dreamed. It's time to recreate that in a new story.

It's time to honour the legacy of Tony Bloom. Come on you Seagulls!

Nah jokes, how are you all doing? I haven't forgotten you. But bare with me.

I have been living abroad and working these past few months, with limited internet access. There is a good reason why I am working - I am moving to England next year! To Uni, Southampton to be exact!

When I get a new laptop, I will be all over these boards, but until then, I am a shadow. Take care.

                                Mallorca Player of the Month

GK Timon Wellenreuther, 68 Ovr, 19 years old, Germany

Timon Wellenreuther, a young goalkeeper on loan to Mallorca from Bundesliga side Schalke, continued his excellent season as he had another perfect month with 0 goals conceded in 3 matches (
Jesús Cabrero was in net for the lone goal against versus Mirandés). Wellenreuther has been a rock for Los Bermellones in the back as he has a staggering 14 clean sheets in 15 appearances. With Mallorca looking destined for promotion to Liga BBVA, it remains to be seen if Wellenreuther will make the jump with them to the Spanish top flight. The Balearic Islands club certainly hopes he will.

                                Manager's Thoughts
Another perfect month, but we had some scares with a 2-1 win at league strugglers Mirandés and a 1-0 escape of a solid Huesca side. From there though, we looked more like the Mallorca of old with a 3-0 thumping of Deportivo Alavés and a 2-0 triumph over Real Zaragoza. I don't want to get overconfident because quite a few of our 17 wins were close games, but with this defense and goalkeeping, I find it hard to believe that any Liga Adelante sides are going to be able to consistently break through against us.

*Copa del Rey - Round of 32

Our Liga Adelante schedule is not tough at all, with 10th place Numancia being our strongest test in league play. However, December gets interesting in the Copa del Rey as we have two legs against Liga BBVA side Getafe. Currently, Getafe sits in 17th place, so they are by no means a top club, but I'm excited to see how we fare against a first division side.
