    Neville brings in new assistant

Since the retirement of Roy Hodgson after Euro 2016 the English national team has been under the stewardship of former Manchester United and England fullback Gary Neville. Hodgson's assistant took over the role after a rather unsuccessful tenure in charge of Spanish side Valencia, in which he was sacked merely four months after taking the job.

He has had a better time of it with the national team however, guiding them to the top of their World Cup qualifying group with eight games played ahead of Portugal on goal difference. They have already both secured a place in next year's tournament, with Poland seven points behind the two European giants. But England's problem has never been in getting to major tournaments but rather underperforming on the big stage. The signs are promising that this England side can improve on previous performances and progress to possibly the semi finals in Russia.

There has been a slight reshuffle in Neville's coaching staff, his brother Phil leaving to take on the manager's job at Everton after Roberto Martinez' dismissal last week. Phil's replacement is a somewhat surprising one, Cardiff City manager Keano Sixteen. Keano led Cardiff to promotion in 2015-16 and then a respectable sixth placed finish in 2016-17. This season hasn't gotten off to the greatest of starts for the Irishman but Gary Neville obviously feels that he can add something a little bit different to the England setup and has brought him on board in time for the final two qualifiers against Portugal and Switzerland.

    SQUAD

    Joe Hart 83 Manchester City

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Hey guys. Sorry for not posting anything in months. School has me so busy, and I also got bored of FIFA for a while, and when I did play, I preferred online. I also got FM16 during that time. However, I am back, and going to be doing a career with Liverpool (again). However, I am very busy with school so it probably won't be very frequent.

Jamie, don't ever apologize for life happening. If it makes you happy to play an update then do it, if it's not something you have time for because life keeps you so busy that's not actually a bad thing.

10, congrats on winning the BPL! Hell of a race! I've got the champagne right here. Actually congrats on the local trebble, I know that's not easy to do.

Yanks, I thought your acquisitions in the winter window were outstanding but it kills me that your squad hasn't been able to perform well consistently. Now depending on how Everton and West Ham do on those games in hand you may find yourself out of the top 5 with just 7 games left. I hope you can get hot in the end and battle them off.

Simp, Bilbao is looking like it's shaping out good, I'm a fan of the Pardo transfer for sure. Nice job beating Barca for the SuperCopa and you seem to have a manageable group in Europa League!

I'll get to the rest of you guys later, it's a lot to comment on!

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

BREAKING NEWS: Brentford have today appointed new manager Maxi Evans. The news broke on Sky Sports News HQ after Dean Smith had to step down to personal reasons. Maxi has been coaching in the youth set up and the club directors were impressed by his work. He will take charge of training tomorrow morning. He gave his first press conference this afternoon.

Q: How does it feel to move from the youth team to the first team?
A: It's going to be a big step up, I know that for sure. I already know a few of the players because I coached them and I know what their game is. This is a massive opportunity for me. I will give it my all and hopefully impress.
Q: How do you think you will do in the championship and will you make any signings
A: I think we can do very well. We certainly have the squad to compete in this division it's just a matter of if we can do it on the pitch. I am really looking forward to what this season will bring. I will have a look at the squad and see where we need to strengthen and who knows. Maybe we will bring some players in?
Q: Do you think you can take this club to them Premier League
A: Listen, there's no doubt I believe this squad and club can go very far. Let's just get through our pre-season and see where the season takes us. Thank you very much.

Maxi will be taking his squad on a pre-season tournament. More to follow.

Our first Basque derby of the season ended in a very bitter and undeserved 1-0 loss. Three penalties were called in our favour in the match but Sociedad's Geronimo Rulli saved every single one of them. Additionally, the third penalty was called due to Iñaki Williams' goal-scoring shot apparently touching the arm of a Sociedad defender. We have only ourselves to blame for not scoring a single penalty, though. Very disappointing.

            My Thoughts

Form - We started the season off with ups and downs. August and September consisted of close wins, two huge draws against Barcelona and Real Madrid and a very bitter loss against Sociedad where we missed three freaking penalties. Those penalties are something I won't forget any time soon. October started well with a hammering of Belenenses in the Europa League and with two league wins after that but the last two games of the month and the first game of November were painful as we failed to score a single goal against bottom of the table sides. Then we improved and went on a ten-game winning streak which came to an end right before Christmas as Celta Vigo beat us. Speaking of Celta, we are facing them in the Copa del Rey round of 16.

In the Europa League we managed to do everything that was expected from us: top the group pretty easily with five wins and a draw. The board wants us to win the competition and that is highly possible if we continue to play well. Our opponent in the first knock-out round will be the Belgian side Club Brugge and we should be able to beat them.

Back to league play: we have went through a real rollercoaster during the first third of the season as we swifted from third to ninth and then up to fourth. Luckily our winning streak managed to lift us to fourth place which is the last place that qualifies for the Champions League. A four-point lead over fifth-placed Sevilla is good but I'm a bit worried that our extremely busy schedule will affect our performances in the league. We should have enough quality depth but a couple of injuries to key players would destroy the squad.

Players - Who did well and who did poorly during the first half of the season? As you can see from the scoresheets, our starting striker Aritz Aduriz has been on fire and he has been scoring in pretty much every game! The almost 35-year-old is enjoying the form of his life and he is the leading goal scorer of La Liga with seventeen strikes in seventeen matches! His finishing is just spectacular and the majority of his shots and headers tend to go in. Replacing him will be a huge challenge but he will continue playing for at least one more season.

Aymeric Laporte has been rock-solid in defence with all of the other defenders doing an alright-ish job. Mikel San Jose has performed very well and he has taken Ander Iturraspe's starting spot as our defensive midfielder. Beñat and Raul Garcia have been doing well. It gets a little bit trickier on the wings, though. Iker Muniain has been disappointing with horrendous finishing and just a couple of assists while Markel Susaeta needs to find consistency. Iñaki Williams started the season poorly but he's very close to becoming a regular starting thanks to his good performances in the past month or so. Now Williams has a chance to shine because he's starting games for us due to Raul Garcia's injury. Markel Susaeta has been moved to the CAM position while Williams and Muniain start on the wings while Garcia is gone.

The young midfielders of the team Ruben Pardo, Ager Aketxe and Ruiz de Galarreta have been getting a lot of playing time and all of them are improving. Furthermore, all three are doing a solid job.

Transfer window - The January transfer window is here and we have around €5,5M to spend. I doubt that we will make any major moves although we might sell a player or two for the right price. One or two players from the Athletic 'B' team might join the senior squad but I'm not certain about it. As a whole, I'm very happy with the squad and it doesn't need tweaking at the moment.

Youth academy - We have four players in the youth academy: two from France, one from Spain and one from Argentina (scout a future star). The players are:

            Baptiste Fadhloun (RB, 61 ovr, 15 y/o, 79-85 pot)
            Zacarias Abeledo (CAM, 57 ovr, 17 y/o, 75-89 pot)
            Juan Fernandez (RW, 63 ovr, 15 y/o, 75-81 pot)
            Matthieu Jeannot (ST, 55 ovr, 16 y/o, 79-85 pot)

Last but not least, I decided to accept an international management offer:

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

@metalhead - Very nice aquisitions in your Palermo save. You sold Vazquez and i understand why (you see the exact same in the transfer window i'm going to post soon :P ) based on the money. I'm anxious to see how Leeuw does in his stead. How are you planning to utilise Leeuw? Jorge Mere is a tremendous signing by the way! I could see him developing into an important player for you in the future.

Ural now and you're really performing well on all fronts! Third in the league and sailing through to the final of the Russian Cup. Kamara seems to be a gem of a player under your managment; (I apologise if you've mentioned before but...) what type of striker is he? A target man? A poacher?

@keano - First of all, great performance last season with your Cardiff squad! Although you had some great individual performances, I fully expect you to carry on this season and your transfers suggest you're looking to add some depth to the squad. I expect Denis Suarez to greatly improve your options in the final third and maybe to get your strikers scoring more. As I said briefly beforehand, Ruben and James are great players and I do hope they perform well enough to get some game time. If fifa 15's anything to go by, those two have bright futures ahead of them and i'm sure you'll be able to nuture that. Oh, and a special thumbs up by cabee for the Adama aquisition! That dude plays really well whenever i play as Aston Villa on 15!

Good luck for the rest of the season!

You got the England job? Nice! I'm so jealous! Did ya know that I've been waiting for that job throughout the whole of my Exeter City career and haven't been offered it once!? Brazil, Spain, France and Portugal are among the offers i've recieved but never the England job so good luck to you sir. If everything starts going wrong, you could always give the job to me? Nice write up about the Sky Sports discussion as well.

@TheYanks - Before I say anything results-wise, i must say: exquisite signings in the January transfer window! You seemed quite unlucky in the FA Cup by the way. It has been a real mixed bag for you for the past few months. Some great performances against the top clubs though. Bournemouth as kryptonite; I totally understand what you're getting at there! In my Exeter cm, when I was in the lower leagues, I could not for the life of me play well against Portsmouth...now it's Chelsea but I get where you're coming from.

The Leicester City game with 'We should give the fans refunds for the tickets this game was so boring.' underneath it made me laugh. Have you been fustrated by the lack of consistancy? Being 5th in the league is still a great achievment at this point but do you feel like you could have been higher in the table based on your performances?

@simppu - Overall, you've been pretty dominant with Hertha. The odd draw here and there and a unpredictable loss against Gladbach to end your winning streak. How do Aubameyang and Kalou compare to each other? They've both been banging in the goals for you! Has Kalou been affected much be his age as of yet?

Ruben Pardo is a great find! Great depth to the squad you have now too. You're team is looking pretty consistent throughout all of your competitions and the league with Aduriz perfroming really well for you so far. Is Aduriz more of an aerial prescense than anything else? I'm guessing for what the 34-year-old lacks in pace he makes up for in finishing? Good luck for the rest of the season!

@indi - Damn it, you knocked Exeter out of the FA cup!? How dare you! What a great signing in Sneijder. Scoring a hat-trick on his debut just shows what a great addition he is, even if they were all penalites; it's shame he acquired a season-ending injury. I'd have been so disheartened by such a big blow that has to the team and to Sneijder himself.

After seeing you beat Chelsea in the FA cup I was quite shocked to see the defeat against West Brom to then knock you out in the round after. Another reason for anger is the fact you missed out on the qualifying for the Champions League by only one point and I can understand any fustration on those fronts.

You got £36m for transfers!? Sweeeet! I just won the BPL and I only get £15.5m...not like i'm bitter or anything...

@vrabbit - Firstly, I very much like that free-kick by Salo for Newport! I'm thinking, in the position he's in, he's gonna try and bend it into the top right corner or maybe even fool the keeper with a shot to the top left based on the position but no! That free-kick is what I'd class as 'sneaky' by fooling everyone with a lower shot placed magnificently into the bottom corner. Very nicely done!

I also can't see you losing your position at the top of the table in all honesty and I really wish I had a youth academy as good as yours when I was in League 2!

                  @MorganMurray - The Bees!

@JHedges & moose - I WILL catch up with both of your careers soon!

As far as performances go, you are doing an amazing job in the league as you are even challenging for the title right now! Good routine win against Norwich in the lead and before that a very good win against Millwall! Also, I'm interested to see if the Lanzini counter offer is matched.
Absolutely, great suggestion by you Simp so he better live up to his billing! I'm really happy with our league performance, but like Leicester this year, we seem to have a great squad and in spite of a few recent injuries lately we've been able to run out our top squad all the time with no worries of Europe this year.

He's really stepping up for the Hammers! Brooks should be a solid signing on a Pre-Contract and has good potential. £20 million for Lanzini would be a good deal and allow you to invest more in the squad since you have Payet and Aldair for the CAM spots. Add in the sales of Mirallas and Wilson and you could have enough for Lacazette and a winger! Draxler or Berardi could be good additions there. I was looking at Ntep for Cardiff actually, as he does have some great stats. Big release clause on Paulo!
Thanks Keano! Aldair has been fantastic, he's been stepping up when a lot of the senior players (Lanzini, Mirallas) have been struggling. If they would bite on the Lanzini deal it would be more than fair, so the money influx like you said would be massive! Ntep looks phenomenal, plus he's in the last 6 months of his deal so maybe we can bring him in on the cheap!

Dybala for 90 would happen with PSG, but you should be safe with Inter. Expect them to discontinue their interest.
He has really come out of nowhere! You can't train sprint speed, so his is still high 50s-low 60s, but technically he is absolutely sublime so when I surround him with three pacey talents he really can just thread the needle with the ball and let them run onto it. If I can sell Lanzini for that it would be great, and with Dybala that is exactly what I'm worried about! I'm hoping we don't see the likes of PSG after him because then we could see a battle to hang onto him.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE REPLIES!!! It means a ton, and I'm so sorry that I haven't been more active in responding to your careers but I'm on the road quite a lot for work nowadays so time is in much shorter supply than it used to be. Clausura 2017 - Game 11
                        Veracruz - Dorados (0-3)
                        Calero 34' (Velazquez)
                        Soriano 60' (Calero)
                        Lacerda 79' (Calero)

I have no reasonable explanation for how the B-squad has been performing as well as it did in this game. I guess the best way to explain it is Calero's score in the first half allowed us to play the counter-attack game in the second half and we made Veracruz pay. Still, props also to the defense for the clean sheet, especially considering the home team took 10 shots (half of them on target).

Copa LatAm - Group Match 4
                        Dorados - Colo Colo (0-0)

I'm thankful that we won our first three matches in group play because I expect more challenging games like this one going forward. The Chilean club frustrated us all night long on our own turf and as a result we were only able to shoot it once on target but luckily our defense was up to the task to help us escape with a point and continue to grow our lead at the top of the table.

                        Clausura 2017 - Game 12
                        Dorados - Toluca (1-1)
                        Uribe 32'
                        Acosta 49' (pen)

Maybe I should had kept running out the B-squad in the league. As a result of our excellent performances in Copa LatAm I decided to flip the scrips for this week and play the main guys in league competition but Toluca, always a tough opponent, gave us a run for our money in this game as our offense struggled to score despite a good number of opportunities (9 shots, 4 on target).

Copa LatAm - Group Match 5
                        Dorados - Independiente (0-3)
                        Vera 4'
                        Mancuello 21'
                        Vera 52'

Yup, that definitely back-fired. The B-squad was completely over-matched and the early deficit did us no favors. We remain on top of the table with one game left to play but have yet clinch a spot in quarter-finals so the next game will be a must-win. This is also marked the end of our undefeated run in this second half of the season.

                        Clausura 2017 - Game 13
                        Monterrey - Dorados (1-0)
                        Chara 55'

Well there were multiple levels of frustration after this game. There is losing, then there's losing for the first time all season in league play, then there's losing to the only team ahead of us in the standings, and finally there's losing by one goal scored by one of our key players last season (who was on loan with us then). It's a short stretch but we really need to turn this around before it becomes a bigger issue.

Copa LatAm - Group Match 6
                        Independiente Medellin - Dorados (1-2)
                        Yu Hanchao 10'
                        Estupiñan 12' (Delgado)
                        Barreca 31' (Estupiñan)

Barreca 55' (Sprained knee, out 4 weeks)

This is exactly how we need it to respond, especially on the road with so much on the line. I just loved the fight in the team to immediately react after being down 0-1 and quickly get ahead in the scoreboard then battle till the end to preserve the win. Unfortunately Barreca's injury will sting a little and Lorran will need to step up big time for the next few weeks.

                        Copa LatAm - Stats
                        Spoiler

Review: we started out good, keeping our form from the first couple of months rolling, but we've hit a rough patch in between. Luckily our excellent start allows us to remain in very good position in the league and finishing 1st in our group in Copa LatAm is very good news allowing us to avoid Deportivo Cali (who in my opinion have a solid squad, especially on offense). Unfortunately it looks like if we can get past Queretaro (it's nice to have an opponent I'm familiar with) we might run into Boca Juniors who are a juggernaut so I might be rooting for Santos Laguna a little bit (even if they beat us in the finals of the latest Apertura). Chilean clubs performed horribly in this tournament, none of them making it past the group stage. Oh, and it's annoying that the quarter-finals don't start until May around the same time the league playoffs will start, which will put us back on 2 games/week.

Our new acquisitions have been performing well for us but it's hard to given them a fair evaluation given that we've been having to play the B-squad so often (with 2 games/week on several consecutive weeks), although the performance of the B-squad has definitely been good news.

As far as the academy is concerned, our scout in Brazil is finally done with his 9-month trip while our scouts in Mexico and Argentina continue to report back from their 6-month trip. Here's our youth squad as of now:

                        - Julio Moyano (CM, 59 OVR, 80-86 POT): 16-year old from Venezuela standing at just 5'2", 132lbs but we expect some growth out of him both physical and skill-wise. He shows flashes of being a playmaker and most recently we've started to work with him as a defender since he might fit the mold of a CDM once he's fully grown.
                        - Mario Santana (LB, 53 OVR, 78-94)*: This 15-year old from Argentina instantly becomes one of our highest-rated prospects and he also plays at a position of need for the club. He already possesses outstanding physical skills for his age including slightly above average speed that could still develop.
                        - Diogo Rios (CM, 56 OVR, 77-91): 17-year old Brazilian described as technically gifted has nice balance and ball control. Will compete with Porter at this position.
                        - Jimmy Porter (CM, 55 OVR, 77-83): Our only remaining American prospect in the academy recently turned 16 years old, growing to 5'0" (from 4'9") and 124lbs (from 119). He needs to continue to work hard in the academy for now and we're excited to watch him compete against Rios.
                        - Jose Henriques (RM, 53 OVR, 73-93)*: The most recent addition to the academy is this youngster from Brazil already showing a lot of skill and promise at just 15 years old. Could be a playmaker sooner than later.
                        - Jose Ramirez (LM, 52 OVR, 71-94)*: I've been stressing to our scout in Mexico that it's important for me that we find local talent so I was elated to get a chance to sign this 17-year old Mexican with killer speed and I can't wait for out staff to develop his game.
                        - Gonzalo Miguel (CDM, 48 OVR, 66-84): 15-year old from Argentina needs a lot of development and our staff may have overestimated his potential. Regardless, he should grow well from his current frame of 5'1",145lbs and could be a contributor for the club.
                        - Silvio Navarrete (RW, 56 OVR, 73-79): This 18-year old Venezuelan has shown some flashes for us but needs to continue to develop his game for now.
                        - Martim Nogueira (CM, 51 OVR, 75-81): This Brazilian prospect only joined the academy earlier this season but recently turned 18 years old. He projects as more of a role player early in his career.
                        - Camilo Paulino (CDM, 45 OVR, 72-86): 17-year old from Brazil described as a playmaker. May be a late bloomer but Speas spoke highly of him in his report.
                        - Alfonzo Izquierdo (LB, 47 OVR, 73-87): 18-year old from Brazil has solid strength/speed for his age but needs to develop as a defender in order to be serviceable to the club.
                        * Recent addition.

And last but not least ...

                        2018 WC Qualifiers - Match 13
                        Venezuela - Ecuador (2-2)
                        Caicedo 8'
                        Del Valle 42' (pen)
                        Juanpi 45+' (S. Rondon)

                        Montero 57'

In desperate need of points we lost two valuable ones at home against an Ecuador squad determined to make our life hell. It was a 90-minute grind and even though all 7 of our shots were on target we weren't able to score more as Alexander Dominguez kept making save after save for Ecuador. This may come back to haunt us BIG TIME.

                        2018 WC Qualifiers - Match 14
                        Venezuela - Chile (3-1)
                        Rincon 26' (S. Rondon)
                        Aranguiz 55'
                        Juanpi 57' (Del Valle)
                        Martinez 71'

Juanpi is making me look like a genius since I inserted him into the Starting XI in the last game and we were able to avenge our loss in Chile late last year thanks in part to an off night by Chilean shooters. We made the most out of our opportunities, putting 6 of our 7 shots on target while Chile had 13 shots but only 3 on target. At this stage in the qualifiers getting the three points is all that matters so everyone in Venezuela was happy afterwards.

Just 4 games left, first against Bolivia and Paraguay and then against Argentina and Brazil. We have to get the next 6 points or we'll be in trouble

And that's all for this update, next one will be the End of the Season update and (SPOILER) you're gonna wanna read that one

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Moose - Great to see that you accepted the Brooks deal to bring him in the summer! My only concern is that after all the hype he won't do well for you which would be a real shame. Anyhow, good job against Stoke to get a very dramatic win with a man down! Personally I will have to agree with the referee about the sending off, though. Tomkins flew into the tackle from behind, completely taking his man out. Luckily it didn't cost you two points, though.

Cabee - Kalou wasn't affected by his age one bit. He didn't even go down by a single overall. He had kept all of his scoring and dribbling abilities and his speed right up until he retired after the season. As far as Aduriz goes, he is a nearly perfect goalscorer! He lacks pace and dribbling but his finishing on the groud and in the air is just outstanding! A lot of his shots just find their way into the back of the net. He is a real joy to use apart from penalties: he has missed four of five of them before February.

About your Exeter career: Damn, I can't believe that you won the title the way you did! Congratulations, man! Truly a spectacular way to retain the title! Great job winning the domestic double, too! I feel like a treble is coming next year.

Jamie - Great to hear about you again! Like Rabbit said, there is no need to apologise about life, it's much more important than FIFA. I absolutely get where you're coming from since I also have school work to do. It's also good that you are continuing to post again soon!

Keano - You brought in quite some attacking talent in the transfer window but I think you needed it. I'm excited to see how Denis Suarez does for you and the signing of Adama is a very interesting one, too. A very up and down month in the league but it's still very early to say anything. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do with England!

Morgan - I'm looking forward to your Brentford career!

Yanks - March was another up and down month for you but at least you managed to pick a couple of wins. Doumbia is still netting a good amount of goals for you and you are still in a very good position in the league. Good luck in the last two months!

Rabbit - Newport: You are quite dominant in the league and you are certainly getting automatically promoted to League 1. I'm glad about some youth players getting promoted and Salo and Bondz Moore have a bright future ahead. They could become club legends for you if they are still in the team when you play in European competitions! The Capital One Cup final defeat looked like a bitter one but reaching the final is a great achievement in itself.

Dorados: a rollercoaster of form in March, especially for the B squad. Luckily you managed to bounce back from the Monterrey defeat and that game in hand you have can prove to be very important as Santos Laguna, Tigres and America are very close in the standings. Queretaro should be a beateable opponent in the Copa LatAm but I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Also, great win over Chile to stay in the qualification zone! Hopefully you make it into the World Cup!

Indi - Sneijder looked incredible for you and he was certainly a big part of the top five finish in the league! Tough luck losing against Watford to miss on the Champions League spot but hey, that's football.

Tex - Stop being a tease and post something :P

That should be everything. Again, I'm very sorry if I missed someone!

Moose, I'll post some, uh, hopefully "constructive criticism" stuff first: I wasn't a fan of the change in narrative in your videos at all. The prior, highlight-like narrative of your videos was something I liked, but this "live-commentary" just wasn't doing it for me. I'm not sure if this was the first time you were doing it for some reason but it was a big change for me so I had to let you know. But back to your CM I'm not shocked the big guns are starting to throw some money at you for your studs although it does shock me they're not willing to pay up for Lanzini. That was a fun game against Stoke and I thought you got a bit lucky getting the win, especially down to 10 men, although I disagree with Simp on that being red-worthy. Obviously I'm a fan of the Brooks signing and he should be a stud for you for a few seasons.

Hedges, haven't had time to check your latest videos yet, I owe you.

Keano, damnit I missed out on being part of the PC. Hated to see your squad slip against West Ham but other than that a very good start. How do you feel about the board's expectations in Europa League? Especially after your struggles in Europa last season, I feel as if the expectations are too high (though I'm sure you'll be up for the challenge). Watch our for my boy Rincon when you play Genoa. Congrats on the England gig!!!

Indi, it's always nice to get to follow Sneijder in a CM, he's such a class player, and he got off to a BANGING start for you with a hat-trick! You know his injury bummed me. I apologize for my boy Rondon knocking you out of the F.A. (not really!), and it's a shame a couple of bad results in the end kept you from CL but you seem to have the right attitude about it. I look forward to those summer signings!

SMH, honestly I'm looking forward to that end of the season update on Ural, there's not much else to say. With Palermo, I thought the Mere acquisition was outstanding and I was surprised to see you sell Vazquez although de Leeuw and Avenatti should cushion that loss nicely and the money surely was nice.
