For you I hated seeing Mackail-Smith's injury but it looks like Pigott has really stepped up for you proving you right for picking him over McQuoid. Sounds like you're gonna have a difficult decision to make when your injured striker gets back. 5th place isn't bad considering you're only 3 off the top. Oh, and Marccelino gave up coaching Finland because the international games were making him miss club games

I see what you're doing here. You are accusing me of posting inaccurate information in my update! And you are correct... Lol can't believe I missed his name :/ as for the Finland section, I will justify my error by adding that my career is about 2 years behind yours so you haven't left the job yet! Then again you probably didn't have the job yet to begin with either BUT, I felt it was good to add that on there to at least give the readers some hope since Newport have a good manager in charge because damn that team is struggling! What makes your career so much better is the fact that Newport are pretty much one of the worst teams in League 2 without you. Also, I know you've already made your decision but I agree with the general opinion here: Farfan = realistic and it'll give you room to improve other areas of the squad while Martial = unrealistic but will bring you success. Also unnecessary because you already have a quality goal scorer BUT if you dish out a lot of money you can sort of make it realistic by writing about how Martial was given too good of an offer to refuse and that's why he left United. I also can't believe you sold Thuram but I guess it has opened the door for your signings. Go get your Italian keeper!

      The Roster

      Spoiler

Georgiy Tigiev suffered a Torn Calf Muscle in training and the initial assessment from the medical department is that he will be out for about 8 weeks. Diego will step into the starting lineup in the meantime.

      Starting XI (4-1-2-1-2)

      Maisonnial (70)

      Cools (73)/Mabiala (72)/Alonso (80)/Diego (72)

      Sow (73)

      Çağlayan (77) --------------- Biseswar (76)

      Türüç (79)

      Peñaranda (75) ------- Stojiljković (75)

      ______________________________

      League Match 10
      Kayserispor - Antalyaspor (2-1)
      Etame 24'
      Peñaranda 52' (Sow)
      Ponce 89' (Biseswar)

Ezequiel Ponce picked a great time to re-unite with the back of the net to help us get a hard-earned victory against an inspired opponent.

Euro League - Group Match 4
      Kayserispor - SC Braga (2-0)
      Peñaranda 20' (Stojiljković)
      Peñaranda 41' (Stojiljković)

      Diego 86'

Nikola Stojiljković served a pair of assists towards Adalberto Peñaranda twice in the first half to once again lead the push against his former team. The Portuguese club simply never created much of a threat.

      League Match 11
      Kasimpaşa - Kayserispor (1-2)
      Ndiaye 34'
      Gümüş 45+' (Stojiljković)
      Stojiljković 84' (Biseswar)

Late goals for the win never get old and we did it in back-to-back league games so we're feeling really good about ourselves. Stojiljković capped a really good two-game stretch having a hand in all four goals scored.

      League Match 12
      Sivasspor - Kayserispor (2-2)
      Çağlayan 23' (Peñaranda)
      Kurtuluş 29'
      Peñaranda 69' (pen)
      Kaş 80'

The first installment of this rivalry game this season ended in a draw after we once again were played very tough by a bottom-dwelling team. We lost possession (44%) and each team fired 7 shots (4 on target for us, 5 for Sivasspor).

Euro League - Group Match 4
      Kayserispor - Tottenham (2-2)
      Dembélé 18'
      Alli 64'
      Peñaranda 67' (pen)
      Peñaranda 83' (Türüç)

This was a big game for us. Losing meant going down to second place in the group and going into the last game of the group stage not having clinched a spot into the next round. Instead we keep a good grip on 1st place AND clinch a spot into the Round of 32. We stayed patient and took the Spurs' best shot and were able to respond led by Peñaranda who is having a hell of a first half of the season.

Review: We went undefeated, clinched a spot into the next round of the Euro League with a good grasp on 1st place in the group, and maintained our position in the league standings. It doesn't get much better than that. These seasons are a grind and especially with a roster such as ours (with limited depth) so it's good to see continue to do well during the grind. There's added value to it that we had such a good month despite Tigiev's loss because although Diego has the same rating he doesn't have the same impact that Tigiev has, although I have to give credit to the Brazilian fullback for performing a lot better this time around than earlier in the season. Upfront I continue to really enjoy how Peñaranda and Stojiljković compliment each other, I especially enjoy the Serbian's game who doesn't need to score to make his presence felt in every game (and I'm not just talking about the assists). He's arguably our most consistent player each time out and should Mabiala be moved he'd be next in line for the captain's armband.

In academy news, we received the final reports from our scouts in Algeria, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia and we made several additions to our youth squad.

CB - Emre Karaer (65 OVR, 81-87 POT): 16-year old from Turkey who is Physically Strong and displays excellent aggression (84) to the ball. We're excited about his development and in no rush to promote him until we feel he's ready.
ST - Imtiyaz Ismail (51 OVR, 79-94)*: 15-year old from Algeria who our scouts project as one of the best striker prospects to ever be groomed by the club. What he lacks in technique (due to his age) he compliments with killer pace (79/74 acc/spd) for such a young player to go along with very good curve (74) on his shots.
Cemal Al-Jurr (38 OVR, 76-94)*: 17-year old from Algeria whom we scouted for several months. While he's extremely raw at the moment our scout remained convinced he has very good potential so we signed him as a long-term project.
LB - Mahmoud Al Farsi (50 OVR, 72-92): 16-year old from Saudi Arabia who's Physically Strong and shows good aggression. Depending on how he continues to grow he might be more of a CB prospect.
CM - Serdar Emir (53 OVR, 72-92): 16-year old from Turkey described as a Playmaker and showing good agility (75). We continue to evaluate where he fits best in a dimaond midfield.
CM - Uygar Mert Köse (51 OVR, 73-91)*: 15-year old from Turkey described as Technically Gifted and who is very agile (79). Shows a lot of promise at an early age.
RW - Shafiq Al Shahrani (50 OVR, 72-90): 16-year old from Algeria with an attacking mindset. We're hoping for development in his pace (71acc/69spd).
CAM - Hamzah Al Dalharni (47 OVR, 74-90): 17-year old from Algeria who's very raw but offers enticing potential. We'll have more details on him as we evaluate him further.
LW - Dragen Rennich (62 OVR, 77-83): This prospect from Croatia just turned 17 years old, growing 7 inches to 5'8" and adding 13 pounds to his frame to top out at 152lbs. He has good acceleration (79) and balance (75).
LW - Javier Fernandez (58 OVR, 77-83): 17-year old from Venezuela with good pace (79 acceleration, 70 speed) that will hopefully continue to grow. Good competition for Niarkhos and Rennich in the academy.
RW - Pavel Župan (57 OVR, 76-82): 17-year old from Serbia with good acceleration (73) and agility (73). He projects as more of a role player in the future.
LW - Dragutin Puhovski (52 OVR, 71-77): 16-year old from Serbia with good pace (74 speed, 71 acceleration) and balance (72). He's a bit behind in the picking order at this position in the academy at the moment but hopefully he can catch up quickly.
RB - Fabian Lopez (59 OVR, 73-79): 17-year old from Venezuela who needs a lot of development. Doesn't possess the desired pace for the position at this point in time but hopefully he'll develop that. We don't expect him to grow taller than his current 5'11" frame so a move inside won't be an option for him.
      * Recent addition

As I continue to work with the team looking forward to a Copa America in the upcoming summer, for these two games I filled the roster with players that are usually on the bubble or below it to get a better look at it. One player in particular made the most of this opportunity

      International Friendlies

      New Zealand - Venezuela (0-1)
      Falcon 63'

With a whole new set of players I expected a bit of a struggle but the squad actually performed fairly well, holding the Kiwis to just 5 shots (none on target) while we had 5 of our 8 shots on target. Luckily for us Juan Manuel Falcon was able to have a moment of brilliance in the 63rd minute to give us the victory, displaying his outstanding shot power to give us the victory.

      Bolivia - Venezuela (1-1)
      Falcon 80' (Navarrete)
      Pedriel 90+

We nearly repeated our performance from Oceania, again creating a good number of opportunities (10 shots, 6 on goal) while limiting the home offense to just 3 shots and breaking the deadlock in the 80th minute when a cross from Dorados academy-product Silvio Navarrete found Falcon for a header that should had given us the victory. But in stoppage time Bolivia's only shot on goal would get past our keeper to end the game in a draw.

Falcon was easily the best player for La Vinotinto for reasons far beyond his scoring and I will find a way to include him in on the roster for the next games with the main squad.

      December/January Schedule
      12/3: vs Akhisarspor
      12/8: at Başakşehir
12/13: at Partick Thistle (Euro League)
      12/16: vs Osmanlıspor
      12/23: at Gaziantepspor
      12/30th: vs Trabzonspor
      1/6: at Rizespor
      1/26: vs Beşiktaş JK

      That's all for this one

@vrabbit: congrats on clinching the knockout stage of Europa! Looks like you had a really tight group. Not surprised to see Spurs come out with you though.

@chico: nice little month, despite the JPT loss. You're not giving up very many goals these days.

@southernmetalhead: speaking of not giving up many goals! Sweet 3-0 win over Roma...that had to feel good.

                Starting XI (4-4-2 Diamond Wide)

                Martinez (C, 71)

                Odubajo (72)/Luan (75)/Blackett (70)/B-Williams (75)

                Ince (75)

                Giles (71) ------------------ B. Moore (73)

                Gordon (76)

                Ambrose (77) ------- Thuram (71)

                ___________________________________

                League Match 20
Birmingham City - Newport County (1-2)
                Cotteril 33'
                Ince 35' (Gordon)
                Ambrose 53' (Thuram)

The Exiles received a good challenge from the home team but they weathered the punches and came away with a solid road victory. Right after going down 0-1 Newport responded with this feed from Gordon to Ince:

                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rLDyS9mPveU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It's such a luxury to have a defensive midfielder who can strike it from outside like that. The French duo upfront would hook up early in the second half to give Marccelino's squad the lead and the subsequent 3 points.

                League Match 21
Newport County - Charlton Ath (1-0)
                Binnom-Williams 3'

Fans who failed to arrive to Rodney Parade on time missed out on this:

                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ojISon_RYvI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That was off an early free kick taken from the right wing by Gordon. Replays confirmed the ball bounced inside the goal in its entirety. The Exiles would go on to create a number of opportunities thereafter (8 shots, 6 on target) but B-Will's goal would be the only one of the day as Newport collected its second win in a row.

                League Match 22
                Bolton - Newport County (1-2)
                Trotter 36'
                Thuram 45+' (B. Moore)
                Ambrose 60' (pen)

The Exiles got themselves a winning streak by once again earning a come-from-behind win on the road. Bondz Moore found Thuram on a nice feed right before the half to even up the game going into the break and Ambrose earned a penalty kick by making his presence felt inside Bolton's box to then score what would be the game-winner.

                League Match 23
Newport County - Sheffield Wed (1-1)
                Matias 57'
                Giles 65' (Ambrose)
Gordon 27' (Sprained knee, out 3 weeks)

The Exiles' attack came fast and furious throughout this game but the visitors stepped up to the challenge with a fine defensive performance to steal a point at Rodney Parade. Below is an illustration of the type of defense on display on this date by Sheffield Wednesday ...

Lewis McGugan saves his team at the goal line early on.

                League Match 24
                Newport County - Bournemouth (1-1)
                Ambrose 35' (pen)
                Arter 41' (pen)

It was PK city at Rodney Parade as a total of four shots from the penalty strike were called by the referee but Ambrose had a PK saved by Ryan Allsop in the second half after the league's leading scorer decided to switch the location from his earlier shot and later in the second half Marcus Thuram got a chance to give The Exiles the three points on another PK but his shot went high above the cross bar. To add more controversy to the game, the PK called for the visitors was a phantom call in the eyes of many viewers but Newport certainly had plenty of opportunities to go ahead (9 shots, 5 on target) after holding Bournemouth to just 2 shots (both on goal).

                League Match 25
Newport County - Leeds United (1-1)
                Doukara 6'
                Ringdal Støvland 72' (Feddal)

The Exiles' B-squad earned a very valuable point on the road against The Whites to keep Leeds United below them in the standings. Youngster promise Kjetil Ringdal Støvland stepped up big time for Newport County, continuing to build up on a series of strong performances he's had so far this season (the few times he's been called upon, mostly with the B-squad). Another aspect of note is Marccelino finally gave academy-product Hayato Matsuki the role as the B-squad's starting goalkeeper and the 6'7", 196lbs youngster from Japan responded with a strong game (8.4 rating).

                ...
                T5. Martinez (Newport County) - 5

Marccelino's Dairy: Three draws to close out the month isn't ideal but we managed to go undefeated heading into the winter transfer window which is a positive for us as we fortify our third place in the standings. While we have made up a good chunk of ground on QPR a lot of that had to do with them going winless over the same stretch and unfortunately for us Burnley did not go into such funk, actually increasing their lead over us. Nevertheless, at the midway point we have established ourselves as a contender in the league which is pretty remarkable considering the road we've been in. This upcoming transfer window could be very important for all of the teams fighting for promotion as any acquisition or sale could have a big impact on the race. Our budget remains a glass ceiling for us so we'll to get creative during the window but there are definitely some moves I'll like to make if the opportunities arise.

With that in mind I decided to promote Andrea De Girolamo from the academy. I believe he's ready to, at worst, contribute with the C-squad but mostly I'm hopeful he'll get a loan opportunity for the rest of the season on a team that will provide him with plenty of playing time. He's showing great potential and his secondary position is at CF so he's an emergency option there although he needs to develop that part of his game further. Depending on what our budget looks like after the transfer window we'll probably send all three of our scouts out in search of young talent but for now the youth squad remains made of these guys:

CAM - Daniele Martella (59 OVR, 93-94 POT): Having concluded their evaluations our scouts unanimously believe this 17-year old from Italy has elite potential. As a result of that extra time is being spent with this youngster to make sure he's developed at a rapid and efficient pace. He stands at 6'1" and 154lbs.

CDM - Doke Boëtius (62 OVR, 81-87): This 17-year old from Netherlands standing at 6'3" and 169lbs is our next top prospect at the position, joining a crowded group of youngsters at CDM (Dall'Oglio, Ichigawa, Kagome). He'll need to be patient and continue to work hard in the academy for his opportunity. He could become a loan candidate as soon as next season.

RB - Willem Van Hout (51 OVR, 79-85): This 16-year old from Belgium is still very raw but exhibits good potential and coaches in the academy are trying to make sure he remains focused on working on developing his game. Doesn't possess the pace the team would like at the position but Marccelino is keeping more of an open mind when it comes to that after watching Nicolai Fernandes play.

Luckily yes! Although it makes my run in the Coupe much more difficult. I saw you asked earlier which round I was in and currently it is the round of 16 I'm pretty sure.

No forfeits haha, although I played a match where I had maybe only 1 more player I could have moved into my active squad which means I was cutting it pretty close. And yeah the sliders I use do increase injury frequency, but the severity is really low which means that seeing 4 ACL tears and a MCL tear is just insane and highly improbable. Maybe my style of play is just reckless!

                            Winter Transfer Window Update

OUT: Marko Simić (CB, 66 OVR), sold to Sivasspor for $425K. Abdulaziz Demircan (GK, 70 OVR), sold to Konyaspor for $1.2 million. Argus Gianakos (CAM, 71 OVR), loaned on short-term to Aston Villa. Selim Özçal (CB, 66 OVR), loaned on short-term to Osmanlıspor.

IN: Rafael Romo (GK, 68 OVR), acquired from Udinese for $650K. Alan Henrique Ferreira B. Soares (CB, 72 OVR), acquired from CD Nacional for $1.2 million. Abdou-Aziz Thiam (CDM, 72 OVR), acquired on short-term loan from AS Monaco.

                            Transfer Window Recap

We weren't going to have a big acquisition unless we somehow netted some funds so I apologize for the lack of excitement. Touching first on the moves we did make, Simić was an older CB declining so fast the guys coming out of the academy were quickly surpassing him, so we were just happy to move him even if it was to our rival. I had mentioned in previous updates that Demircan had requested to be transferred after losing his job to Maisonnial so that move shouldn't have been much of a surprise. I had also mentioned dating back to the end of last season that I wanted to move on from Mabiala and I finally did. After that loaning three of our academy-products also doesn't need much explanation, I mostly try to make sure they go to a team where they'll get playing time (after deciding whether or not they're needed on our roster).

Because Maisonnial has the GK gig on lock and has potential into the 80's I wanted to bring in a GK I was familiar with who would accept a backup role and Romo is just that. I actually gave Romo a couple of starts with Venezuela in the most recent friendlies against New Zealand and Bolivia as a way of scouting him. At CB I really wanted to go back to the negotiations I had with FC Schalke 04 in the summer for Kaan Ayaan but I wasn't able to put together the budget for it. I also looked into Marcelo, a 31-year old Brazilian CB from Hannover 96, but he kept hustling me for a wage increase using interest from Trabzonspor as leverage and I drew the line at $50K. He didn't accept so we moved on and he ended up signing with Trabzonspor for $60K. Alan Henrique, even if he's rated the same as Mabiala, is an upgrade for us and has a little room for improvement. CB is definitely a position I'll look at again in the summer as I look for the right partner for Alonso. I also want to move on from Samba Sow and with that in mind I took a flyer on Thiam to get a better look at him these last few months and decide whether he's the guy I want to target in the summer.

Of course this target window would had been a lot different if the big spenders in the league hadn't had baffling approaches to negotiating wages with Deniz Türüç. After realizing we're not as dependable on him to score this season and figuring out I could still have an effective midfield even with his departure, I listened to any offers that came in for Türüç. A good number of them came, but only Galatasaray ($25M), Trabzonspor ($23M), and Fenerbahçe ($25M) met our fee demands. However, all three of those clubs proceeded to only offer Türüç wages at $70K when we've been paying him $90K, and naturally he ended up rejecting all the offers. He understood it was business though, so there's no concern about ill feelings going forward.

And that's all for this update. Thanks for reading as always

Moose - Good to see that you were able to bounce back in amazing fashion against Liverpool after only scoring once in three games! Cresswell's goal was ridiculous. Solid win against Bournemouth, too. Tough luck losing to Barcelona, although that Neymar goal was unbelievable! How has your star-filled midfield performed this season in your opinion? To me it seems like the midfielders are doing a very good job.

Rabbit - Kayseri: Overall strong performances to sit comfortably in fourth and to top your Europa League group. That was after November, though, and I think you forgot to post the December update for Kayseri. Anyhow, I was a bit surprised that you didn't sell any big players this time although you did explain why that didn't happen. Alan Henrique looks like a solid back-up defender.

Newport: You had a good December right up until the last three games where you dropped quite a few points. Third is still a good position and I believe that you will be able to achieve promotion at the end of the season. It's hard to describe how amazing Ambrose has been for you! I'm looking forward to seeing whether you went for Martial or Farfan at the end.

Tex - And I thought I had injury problems with two players out for two months each haha. Man, you are kidding me right now. Nine injuries? I can't believe how poor your luck has been with those injuries. It's good to hear that you haven't had to forfeit any games, though.

Chico - Oh no, that Bradford loss must've felt so bad! Huge shame about those two goals right at the end. On the bright side you progressed in the FA Cup and you are still leading the league. Good to see that Pigott has been stepping up!

SMH - 3-0 against Roma? Bloody well done! You have a big lead at the top of the table and you are doing a marvellous job in the cup so everything is going perfectly right now!

So I've been starting to lose interest, not in FIFA, but in my careers. It was tough coming back after a while away and jumping back into the middle of my Sheffield career. I love the team, but it's hard to pick up and try to move forward building upon an old plan. I started Metz to counter the disinterest, but as always, I find myself tiring of non-English careers more quickly.

I've been considering firing off something fresh and taking a different approach to my updates than I have in the past. I've been tinkering around with a new career the past few days, but I'm not 100% sure if I will roll it out. I want to create a career that has more of a story to it rather than just the results and transfer listings my Sheffield and Metz updates are. Something might be out soon if I decide I like this idea and team I've been messing around with.
