    Transfers Out

    Sandro Wagner, Striker, 75 Ovr,
    €5,000,000 to FC Lorient

The 29-year-old striker spent only five months at the club, and during those five months he failed to hit the back of the net even once. Wagner was simply useless out on the pitch and we ran out of patience with him.

    Transfers In

    Davie Selke

73 Ovr, Striker, 22 Years Old, Germany

    €6,900,000

VfB Stuttgart were fast to replace their summer transfer flop Sandro Wagner as they announced the capture of German striker talent Davie Selke only two days after Wagner had been sold. The 22-year-old Selke made his debut for Werder Bremen in 2013, which was followed by some goals and a very controversial move to RB Leipzig in 2015. Selke helped Leipzig achieve promotion to the top tier of German football in 2016, but in the following season his side got relegated back to the second division. Now the strong and capable goalscorer is hoping to live up to his potential at surprise of the season Stuttgart, who are second in the Bundesliga.

    January 2018

    SC Freiburg 1 - 1 VfB Stuttgart
    Niederlechner 5'
    Dzsudzsák 73'

Our first game on Legendary could've ended better for us as we had several, or eight, good opportunities to score in the game. Niederlechner put the home side into the lead very early on with a powerful near-post strike. We managed to equalise with Balázs Dzsudzsák's curling effort twenty minutes before the fulltime whistle.

    VfB Stuttgart 2 - 1 Borussia Dortmund
    Wood 12', Dzsudzsák 51' pen
    Pato 30'

Second game on Legendary against a top team and boom - we beat them. Somehow Dortmund never really looked confident on the ball and I guess we just wanted the victory more than them. Bobby Wood's counter attack goal and Dzsudzsák's well taken penalty were enough to secure us the win.

    Bundesliga Table

    1. Bayern München, 45 pts
    2. VfB Stuttgart, 41 pts
    3. Hertha BSC, 33 pts
    4. Borussia Dortmund, 32 pts
    5. SC Freiburg, 32 pts
    6. VfL Wolfsburg, 30 pts
    ----------------------------------------
    16. Eintracht Frankfurt, 19 pts
    17. 1. FC Köln, 18 pts
    18. Hannover 96, 12 pts

    The Squad
    Spoiler
    Spoiler

    Starting XI

    My Thoughts

    Form -
Tieing with Freiburg was a slight upset but the win against BVB after that was great. I also adjusted some sliders in the CPU's favour after that win because, quite ironically, after turning the difficulty up the point gap between us and third-placed Hertha has grown instead of getting smaller.

Transfers - I was very happy when Lorient accepted our counter offer of 5M for Sandro Wagner because it meant that we were getting rid of him. He was completely useless for us, getting only a single assist in eight or nine appearances, and he spent the last couple of months rotting in the reserves.

With one striker gone I decided that it would be good to bring another striker in. We made several offers for Hoffenheim's Mark Uth, Frankfurt's Luc Castaignos and Haris Seferovic, and AZ Alkmaar's Vincent Janssen, but after some failed deals for one reason or another we decided that the young Selke would be the best option for us. He is well-suited for our target striker role and now I just hope that he lives up to expectations.

All of the three most expensive transfers of the window involved Bayern München. They signed Real Madrid's James Rodriguez for €115M (!), even though they have the likes of Mesut Özil and Mario Götze, and if that wasn't enough they went ahead and signed David Silva for €55M. Bayern also sold Robert Lewandowski to Chelsea for €76M, which makes me question their remaining fire power, although I think they still have Thomas Müller.

February - The first game of February is a very important (for me personally) game against Hertha BSC at the beautiful Olympiastadion away from home. After that we face our bogey team Hannover at home, which is then followed by a Europa League match against Saint-Etienne. After a trip to Augsburg we have the second leg of the Europa League fixture at home. We will get only a day of rest after the game against the French side before we play against Werder Bremen. The month is finished off with a game against a solid Schalke 04 side.

Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Simp, I love you for recognizing the ease of your success in your first season in the Bundesliga with Stuggart and wanting to do something about it. That's important because obviously you want the CM to be somewhat realistic. All that being said let's enjoy the magical run Stuggart is having this season and I think you deserve credit for putting together a really good roster and pulling the right strings at the right time. Case in point your handling of Wagner which differs on how Marccelino has handled Sebastian Vegas at Newport County and your approach seems to be working out a lot better. You then make another great move upgrading with Selke who could really battle Zwoliński for that starting spot next to Wood. Like cabee against Exeter I think we all look forward to your game against Hertha!

Tex, I absolutely freaking love the new CM and the new style of your updates. Most importantly you seem to be feeling it which is what's necessary in order for you to stick with it. You had a really good start to the season and your risky approach with different formations paid off then (although I'm not sure how realistic the different formations are, I may need schooling on this). You also made subtle improvements to your squad that nobody will put on the headlines but that may help you achieve those high goals the club has set out for you. September looks like it was a bit more of a challenge for you but you're still in great position in the league plus I think if you just achieve direct promotion and not win the league the board will still be happy lol.

SMH, who knew Hagi would be this good a manager? He has Avellino on point, dismantling Serie A teams in the TIM Cup like it's child's play while staying above everyone else in Serie B. In all honesty anything but a double would be a let down at this point, although you're setting us up for a slip-up with your March update and you also didn't disclose who your opponent will be in the TIM Cup final (if it's a team like Juventus then expectations of a double are lowered a bit). I won't say in which one but I recently had a month very similar to your March in one of my CM's so I think I know how you feel. On the other hand, for you, your success up to this point has allowed you to remain in a leading position regardless of a so-so month.

Indi, did you really give us an update with a full season? That's abuse. You're yellow carded on my book. I will be honest, I didn't realize your update was that extensive so I had to sort of pick highlights but obviously it was a hell of a season comfortably winning the Championship and having an amazing run in the F.A. I want to comment on some players since you're probably analyzing your roster: I had the opportunity to get Oliver Burke on loan in the first couple of season at Newport and his pace alone is worth rostering. If you're able to develop him either through loans or training he could be valuable depth for you down the road. Antonio has always stood out to me in Moose's CM so it's no shock to see he's been such a stud for you and I'd definitely build around him for a couple of seasons, he's definitely BPL material especially for a recently-promoted side. I'm also not shocked Assombalonga came around for you because he's been an absolute pest to play against in the Newport CM and I think he too can be a valuable asset for you in this CM even if it's just off the bench. I look forward to seeing who you bring in.

cabee, that update on Exeter-Newcastle was very well done. I thought you did a great job of taking a game that was very emotional on a personal level AND on the pitch and brake it down as it developed. It was very enjoyable to read. The rest of your month was clouded by a poor showing against ManCity but overall you continue to be in great shape in the BPL. It's really a shame the board won't reward your performances so far with additional budget, I agree with you that it's total BS.

Moose, the second yellow on Noble was total BS, reminded me of the second yellow Marcelo Diaz got vs Argentina in the Copa America final. I was expecting you to still manage a way to get points out of that game which speaks to my expectations from your squad. You have me hooked on whether you won the CL group. Jumping back to the previous episode thank you for sharing Neymar's spectacular strike, that was insane. Is Rondon hurt or are you just more comfortable bringing him off the bench? Is there much of a gap between him and Masana?

Chico, from what I gathered Pigott has all but taken over at ST for Mackail Smith? Ballsy. It was a rough November and I wonder if your B-team's struggles will make you move Pigott back into that lineup. You'll feel better about your loss in the JPT when you check out one of my next updates, I guarantee that. Watch our for Mbokani in that COC quarter-final, he shows up deadly against smaller squads like ours.

Thanks to everyone who commented recently, I did see them all and I'm planning on either addressing the comments in an episode or I'll reply on here, and I'm also gonna make sure to comment on you guy's careers as well! I'm stuck in Dallas for 3 weeks and for some reason the TV will recognize my HDMI cable but it won't recognize it once it comes out of my Elgato, so I'm not sure how I'm going to record any new career videos :/

Anyways, Episode #75: OH MICHAIL ANTONIO!

The formations have actually been really fun to mess around with. It's been a blast trying to outsmart the other teams and take away their strengths while exploiting their weaknesses. I've been grabbing the other team's usual formations off of sofifa and I haven't run into any that have used a different on than what was listed on there.

It's risky switching it up so often since I don't exactly get to establish an identity, but I love that I get to use different types of players so often and actually create a game plan to either play up the middle or down the wings depending on what I'm up against. But that's kind of the identity I wanted to establish for myself with this one anyway. I wanted to be a tactical specialist and while some of the game plans have worked, some others have come back at us haha.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! I was hoping this new approach would be appealing to you guys.

Thanks to everyone for voting on my next (and probably final FIFA 16) CM. By a vote of 6-3-3, my new club will be.......

I won't be starting the actual CM for a few weeks, but I plan to build a plan ahead of the first transfer window over that time. Really like the initial look of the squad and there is a ton of versatility, but could definitely use some pieces if I want to compete near the top of La Liga.

              Thuram 90' (pen)

              Keown 87'

Reading fans will have nightmares about Marcus Thuram for a while. The French striker repeated his hat trick from earlier in the season at Madejski Stadium to lead The Exiles to another victory against Reading this season. The visitors made a number of mistakes in this game and paid costly in each one of them, first letting Thuram chest a ball down inside the box of a corner kick to calmly open up the scoring late in the first half, then committing a hand ball inside their own box in the 60th minute, then Warner Hahn attempting a long clear out on the ground that was intercepted by Thuram and ran back for a 1-on-1 vs Hahn (won by Thuram), then Niall Keown committing a foul inside his own box on Thuram as the last man on defense. Ambrose then, recognizing his countryman was on the verge of the hat-trick, asked Thuram to take the ensuing PK which put the game to rest. Thuram finished with a near-perfect game rating of 9.8.

              Marcus Thuram just owns Reading.

              League Match 26
Newport County - Rotherham Utd (1-1)
              Smallwood 37'
              Ambrose 81' (Dall'Oglio)

The Exiles' season-long struggles against Rotherham Utd continued as Newport County was once again unable to dominate what on paper is an inferior opponent to earn just one point against a team in the relegation zone. After losing to Rotherham Utd earlier in the season and needing extra time to defeat them in the first round of the COC, Marccelino's squad just wasn't able to create many scoring opportunities (4 shots, 2 on goal) in this home game.
              _______________________________________________

As a result of Newport County's advancement in the F.A. Cup, their home game against Bolton originally scheduled for 1/26 was re-scheduled to 2/2.

              Thuram 17' (Ince)
              Gordon 23' (Thuram)

A snowy game limited the teams to a combined 5 shots on target but The Exiles were able to be efficient with their opportunities to get three points on the road. On what turned out to be his last game as an Exile, Marcus Thuram made a significant difference one last time scoring one goal and assisting on the other.

              F.A. Cup - 4th Round
              Colchester - Newport County (0-1)
              Gordon 18'
              Odubajo 61'

Clark Gordon made all the difference with a flawlessly-executed free kick in the 18th minute to give The Exiles the victory to advance in the cup. It wasn't the most promising exhibition on offense (4 shots, 3 on target) on Newport County's first game without Thuram but we won't jump to conclusions off of one game.

Marccelino's Dairy: overall it was another good month for us but in a tight race for direct promotion the points lost against Rotherham Utd could be haunting. I will miss Marcus, it was truly a pleasure to watch him grow in his two seasons with the club. It really wasn't our intent to part ways with him but the initial offers for him were coming a good bit above his value and his great form allowed us to negotiate a fee doubling his value which was just too good to pass up; plus, it allowed him to get a significant raise on his new deal with Bury which he deserved. With the way things played out this provides a great opportunity for Kjetil Ringdal Støvland to prove whether he's ready to step into that role so we'll give him first opportunity to show what he can do next to Ambrose. The youngster has put in a lot of work since being promoted in the summer of 2017 so with a starting spot available he definitely deserves the opportunity to show us what he has.

With the transfer window now past us we were able to retain some funds to put towards our academy. Our English scout, Adam Adeyemi (3* EXP/2* JUD), has been asked to scout locally; Our Finish scout, Kimmo Räsänen(3*/2*), was sent to Spain; and our Norwegian scout, Daniel Espejord (3*/2*), was sent to Brazil. All of them will be away scouting for 6 months. Our academy remains with a short roster that we hope to grow through these scouting trips.

CAM - Daniele Martella (60 OVR, 93-94 POT): Our unanimous top-prospect has recently turned 18-years old. Scouts believe his potential is higher than any of our prospects either in the academy or on the senior roster. As a result of that extra time is being spent with him to make sure he's developed at a rapid and efficient pace. He stands at 6'1" and 154lbs. He's likely to be promoted before the season ends as we try to avoid him becoming unhappy in the academy.

CDM - Doke Boëtius (63 OVR, 81-87): This 17-year old from Netherlands standing at 6'3" and 169lbs is our next top prospect at the position, joining a crowded group of youngsters at CDM (Dall'Oglio, Ichigawa, Kagome). He'll need to be patient and continue to work hard in the academy for his opportunity. He could become a loan candidate as soon as next season.

RB - Willem Van Hout (52 OVR, 79-85): This 16-year old from Belgium is still very raw but exhibits good potential and coaches in the academy are trying to make sure he remains focused on working on developing his game. Doesn't possess the pace the team would like at the position but Marccelino is keeping more of an open mind when it comes to that after watching Nicolai Fernandes play.

All three of our shots on target turned into scores and our defense paired that up with a shoutout to give us a comfortable victory against a team in the lower half of the table. New team captain, Nikola Stojiljković, provided the highlight of the game in the 65th minute:

After missing three weeks in December with a sprained knee it'll now be a sprained ankle that keeps Dion Cools sidelined and it'll be up to Andres Tello, the Colombian loanee from Juventus, to fill in the void.

                  Sow 87' (Ponce)

                  Ponce 82'

The winning streak is real after a third consecutive win by three goals dating back to our 5-2 defeat of Beşiktaş at the end of January. Bruno Mezenga's own goal just two minutes after Tolga Ünlü had cut the deficit to one all but sealed the deal for us. In light of Ponce's assist is worth noting he's looked much better as the season has gone on as opposed to earlier in the season where you couldn't even tell he was subbing in regularly.

                  League Match 22

Ponce 19' (Bruised shoulder, out 5 days)

With the first leg of the match-up with Napoli in four days I chose to play our B-squad and they didn't miss a beat pushing our winning streak to four with another +3 goal victory. Ponce continued his great form with a couple of scores even after suffering a bruised shoulder early in the game that will keep him off the bench for the upcoming game against Napoli, while Allen also continued to make a case for more playing time.

                  Jorginho 72'
Biseswar 58' (Bruised shoulder, out 5 days)

I mentioned during the most recent transfer window update how we had listened to offers for Deniz Türüç because we aren't as dependable on him for scoring anymore but in a big game he stepped up huge for us, shocking the majority of those present at Stadio San Paolo in the third minute then assisting the men in front of him a couple of times to lead us to a big time victory on the road that put us in very good position to move to the Round of 16. I was bothered by Jorginho's goal because I felt we left our guard down but hopefully it won't make much of a difference. Napoli edged us in possession (54%) and shots (10, 6 on target) but were surgical with our chances scoring with all three of the shots we took.

Kalidou Koulibaly can't stop Peñaranda from scoring Kayserispor's second goal in the 13th minute.

                  Peñaranda 50' (Çağlayan)
                  Uçan 65'

Unfortunately our unbeaten streak dating back to late October came to an end against a Fenerbahçe that is trying to make yet another late run for the league title. We created a few scoring opportunities (6 shots, 3 on goal) but just weren't able to score more than once.

Review: I really have nothing else to say about the Euro League right now. I'll welcome any questions, I guess. Our focus now needs to turn to the league where we have managed to get to the top of the table and with no other competitions on the calendar we have no excuses to not lift the Süper Lig Trophy at season's end. I think this team has proven it can bag with top European competition so a spot in Champions League next season wouldn't be an oddity. That's really all I have to say right now.

                  The Academy

ST - Imtiyaz Ismail (55 OVR, 81-94): This Algerian prospect recently turned 16 and is cementing his status as the best prospect in our academy, perhaps the best striker prospect to ever be groomed by the club. What he lacks in technique (due to his age) he compliments with killer pace (81/74 acc/spd) for such a young player to go along with very good curve (76) on his shots.
CM - Uygar Mert Köse (53 OVR, 80-86): 15-year old from Turkey described as Technically Gifted and who is very agile (79). Shows a lot of promise at an early age.
RW - Shafiq Al Shahrani (53 OVR, 80-86): 16-year old from Algeria with an attacking mindset. We're hoping for development in his pace (71acc/69spd).
Cemal Al-Jurr (45 OVR, 75-89): 17-year old from Algeria who we scouted for several months. While he's extremely raw at the moment our scout remained convinced he has very good potential and he's been showing quick progress. He has decent pace (78/70 spd/acc) for a youngster.
CM - Serdar Emir (55 OVR, 77-85): 16-year old from Turkey described as a Playmaker and showing good agility (76). We continue to evaluate where he fits best in a diamond midfield.
LB - Mahmoud Al Farsi (53 OVR, 76-84): 16-year old from Saudi Arabia who's Physically Strong and shows good aggression. Depending on how he continues to grow he might be more of a CB prospect (76 aggression).
LW - Dragen Rennich (63 OVR, 77-83): This prospect from Croatia just turned 17 years old, growing 7 inches to 5'8" and adding 13 pounds to his frame to top out at 152lbs. He has good acceleration (79) and balance (75) as well as good bend on the ball (78 curve).
LW - Javier Fernandez (60 OVR, 77-83): Now an 18-year old from Venezuela with good pace (79 acceleration, 70 speed) that will hopefully continue to grow. Good competition for Niarkhos and Rennich in the academy.
RW - Pavel Župan (59 OVR, 76-82): Now an 18-year old from Serbia with good acceleration (73) and agility (73). He projects as more of a role player in the future.
CAM - Hamzah Al Dalharni (49 OVR, 75-81): This Algerian prospect, now 18 years old, remains raw and his potential is now rated lower than we initially had it at. We're still hoping he'll develop into an useful player for the club.
LW - Dragutin Puhovski (55 OVR, 71-77): This prospect from Serbia recently turned 17, growing to 5'9" and 161lbs. He has good pace (74 speed, 71 acceleration) and balance (72). He's a bit behind in the picking order at this position in the academy at the moment but hopefully he can catch up quickly.

                    The Sky Blues

                    October 2015

A late defensive collapse was a tough way to end the month, but we played well that game and should have done better. We look forward now and hope to turn it around against Burton Albion. They use a deep lying 4-1-4-1 with a massive gap between the midfield and the lone forward. We shift our two holding midfielders up and our attacking midfielder back slightly to make them flat across the middle in a 4-5-1 since our back line should be able to deal with the lone striker. We want to use the extra man in the midfield to overwhelm them and beat them at their own attempt to control that area. We keep the personnel the same and we go again.

                    Coventry City 1 - 0 Burton Albion
                    COV - Taylor 36'
                    MOTM: Taylor

It worked beautifully. We dominated possession, 59% to be exact. We took them out of their sorts and they never gave us a scare at any point. Our breakthrough came in the first half with Joe Cole chipping a ball perfectly over the back line to the left side where Taylor was running in and used his stronger left foot to fire it into the top corner. The only disappointment was that we didn't get more, but who am I to complain about 3 points and a clean sheet?

Up next, Wigan away. This won't be easy. They are top of the table and play a 4-3-3 which is a formation we have yet to see in this campaign. We decide to go bold and shake things up. With their 3 forwards looking to cause problems I shift to 2 holding midfielders, place two wingers outside, and bring in a second striker rather than using a CAM. Their formation leaves huge gaps on the outside between the wingers and the full backs and I plan to use that to my advantage. Gadzhev would have been an ideal partner for Vincelot, but he's away on international duty but that's no worry, we have the in form Andy Rose to fill in. Also, despite his lack of pace, we throw Cole out on the wing since he has been fantastic as a playmaker the past few games and we don't want to leave that ability on the bench.

                    Wigan Athletic 2 - 3 Coventry City
                    WIG - Parodi 13', Davies 75'
                    COV - Henderson 8', Vincelot 45', Armstrong 80'
                    MOTM: Henderson

And it's the space in the wings that leads to us finding the opener when Armstrong got the ball out wide and attacked the box setting up Henderson in front of goal. The joy didn't last long though when Cole gave the ball away in our own third and Parodi's shot was deflected by Taylor pushing it around the keeper. Still we didn't let that throw us off, we pressed on. Using the wings again we drew a foul out on the left and Joe Cole's free kick was headed down by Vincelot into the left side of the goal and we were back on top with our game plan working to perfection! Wigan weren't done though, they caught us on the counter as we have been prone to give up and a cross resulted in an unstoppable header from Davies for an equalizer. Still, we fight on and it is Henderson earning his selection as man of the match who pressed the back line and tackled the ball away inside their own box and he quickly passed it to Armstrong for the winner. Top of the table once again, and we proved that we might just have the quality to take this all the way this year. I know we haven't even reached Christmas yet, but we are feeling great.

We're flying high and it's on to Swindon Town in front of our home crowd. They play with a 4-4-2 narrow diamond and we return to our preferred 4-1-4-1 formation in order to temper their numbers in the midfield while keeping our wingers in play to exploit their lack of width. Armstrong keeps his place up front, and Jones returns to the line up to take the right wing spot with Murphy taking his customary place on the left. Our usual midfield three of Cole, Rose, and Vincelot stay in place and we shake things up on the back line bringing in Stokes, Martin, and Phillips with only Stephens keeping his spot after last game. Swindon is no good at sitting at 24th, and we have a game plan that should open them up. A loss is unacceptable in this one.

                    Coventry City 3 - 0 Swindon Town
                    COV - Armstrong 23' (PEN), Vincelot 37', Rose 45'
                    MOTM: Vincelot

Just another day at the office. We did exactly what we should have and we crushed bottom of the league Swindon. Armstrong opened it with a penalty to make up for a shocking early miss and we rounded the first half out with Vincelot and Rose each added one of their own with Joe Cole setting up the latter to continue his good form as a creator for us. The second half was uneventful and we eventually just parked the bus to see out the match and walk away with the convincing win.

A win like that leaves everyone feeling good so off we go to Southend United. They are 4th in the table so they are no pushover, but we are confident, we are strong, we can win this. Southend play a 4-4-2 wide diamond so we try something new. A 3-5-2 that will shift to a 5-3-2 when they have possession. The strike partnership of Armstrong and Henderson is reunited, and we completely change up the wing play with Hunt and Lamieras both coming on to replace Murphy and Jones. The midfield three remains the same with Rose shifting deeper to play alongside Vincelot. The back three will be Taylor, Johnson, and Stephens. Our plan is to control the middle and take advantage of the gap left there as a result of the wide diamond.

                    Southend United 1 - 0 Coventry City
                    SOU - Hunt 42'
                    MOTM: Bentley

60% possession, 10 shots with 9 on target, this should have been a win. Instead, we were left sitting in the away dressing room wondering how we didn't put at least one into the net. And as if to rub our misfortune in, their one shot on target, a volley from outside the box off of a cleared corner, finds the upper 90 and we walk away with nothing. We dominate, and nothing. Nothing is more frustrating than games like this. Time to regroup and tell our strikers to try hitting it away from the keeper for a change. Also, Ruben Lamieras will miss the next month with a sprained knee.

Perhaps we tinkered too much last time, a 5-3-2 was clearly not our strong point. Even though we dominated the game, it just never felt right. To get the lads in the right mindset I tell them we go back to what we know best. Our 4-1-4-1 will be the formation of choice for this one. Murphy and Jones are back in on the wings, Maddison replace the tired legs of Joe Cole, and our back line reverts back to a normal look. The focus will be down the wings on this one and the players are thrilled to get back to our style.

                    Coventry City 1 - 2 Port Vale
                    COV - Armstrong 25'
                    PVL - Markovic 61', Leitch-Smith 69'
                    MOTM: Markovic

It starts out just as we hoped, Armstrong gets free on the right and puts us ahead. Then Port Vale are reduce to 10 men when Remie Streete is shown a straight red for taking Armstrong down in the box. We're about to be 2 up, things are grea... What? Armstrong sent the penalty wide. It's okay, still a goal lead with a man advantage. Then all hell breaks loose. Markovic finds himself unmarked in front of goal and he takes his chance easily. And just 8 minutes later another man is left open in front of goal and Leitch-Smith punishes us for our mistakes. We can't get anything and we fall, at home, against 10 men, having led at half. This one will go down as one of the more embarrassing losses on my resume. Two losses in a row now and we have to make sure that this doesn't become a habit.

Southend United, this time in the league cup. We dominated them last game, we blasted their goal, we controlled possession, and yet they walked away with a 1-0 win over us. We played a 3-5-2 against their wide diamond and that might have been a mistake. This time we choose a 4-3-2-1 which is really a lot like our preferred 4-1-4-1 but with the entire midfield shifted higher up the field. Vincelot at the base will be instructed to stay back and man mark to try to take their CAM out of the game. Cole and Rose stay in the midfield but further up and we will look to use their passing and creativity to exploit the gap in the middle of their formation. Our wingers stay the same, and the back line has two changes with Stephens coming on for the inexplicably terrible Ricketts and Phillips in on the left for a tired Lorentzson, but he will stay on the bench and may get a run later in the game.

Capital One Cup Round of 16
                    Coventry City 3 - 0 Southend United
                    COV - Cole 7, 58', Vincelot 23'
                    MOTM: Cole

That's more like it, that's how we should always play. In control from start to finish and we poured in the goals. Our continued faith in Joe Cole has paid dividends once again as he was superb in this one. He opened it with a sliding shot from the right and it wasn't long before Vincelot added a second from in front of goal after Phillips set him up well. Cole then bagged his brace in the second half with Phillips setting up another with a cross and Cole volleyed it on the far post to put the cherry on top of the night. This is how football is meant to be played.

Up next we head to Blackpool who sit a respectable 8th, which in reality is only 3 pts off of the top of the table. That have put in a respectable string of performances taking 10 of 15 points so far this month and we don't take this one lightly. They run a flat 4-4-2 and we move to a 4-3-2-1 to neutralize their two strikers and also win the numbers battle in the middle at the same time. We will try to control possession in the middle and work our way up through the seams on the inside. Our wingers are told to cut inside to provide support to Armstrong as the lone striker. Joe Cole is exhausted from the sheer number of fixtures this month and he asks to be rested for this one, so Maddison gets a chance to prove himself after some poor early performances this season. We also give Rose a rest and bring in Gadzhev to pair with Vincelot as holding midfielders. We leave the back line the same after an impressive performance and Phillips in particular definitely earned himself an extended run in the starting XI.

                    Blackpool FC 1 - 4 Coventry City
                    BPL - Paterson 19'
                    COV - Murphy 15', Gadzhev 29', Armstrong 38', 90'
                    MOTM: Gadzhev

And we poured it on from the start. Murphy started it off with a goal after cutting in from out wide, but we had a bit of a scare when Paterson turned Johnson and easily beat the keeper. But it wasn't much longer before Gadzhev used a great ball roll to get around his defender in the box and slot it inside the right post to put us ahead again. After that it was smooth sailing and Armstrong added a first half goal and then bagged his brace in the last minute to seal a dominating victory. After their goal, they only registered two more shots all game with only one being on target. This is the way we should play every game, and hell with the expectations put on us by the board, it's how the expect us to play too.

                    Youth Academy

Our scout did infact manage to get himself out to some youth games and he sent us his first report which contained two players. One looked useless, but the other looks like a promising lad and we signed him up to become my first youth addition since taking over. Amari'i Seager is his name and he looks like his future will be in the center of defense. At 15 years old he will have plenty of time to develop in our academy as we really turn him into a true Coventry City player.

                    Amari'i Seager - 15 years old, England, CB, 56 OVR, 60-78 POT

Thanks a lot for the kind words. Looking forward to being sent off when I give you this season's update in one post without any spacing. As for the players, some really nice points you made. Oliver Burke is one for the future and will be going out on loan this season. Antonio is definitely the resident stud as you rightly pointed out, so he's going to be the focal point of this team. I feel he's earned the right to play in that coveted free role between midfield and attack. Obviously he can score and set them up, plus he's nifty in his dribbling and crossing. Assombalonga is a bit of a conundrum. He's not there yet in terms of delivering consistently as a starter, but he's way too good to be an impact substitute. The fact that I've decided to cash in on Veldwijk complicates things, because I can now bring him right into the first team if I wanted. It'd be unrealistic to sign a new striker when I've got one who knocked in 13 last season, and I'm leaning heavily towards realism for this save. One of the big reasons I'm not sure I want to bring Quaresma in.

Tex: Really nice work with Coventry. I like the new format and the fact that you're experimenting with formations. How is Armstrong up front as a lone striker? Simppu:
Great job with Stuttgart. Nice to see you bumping up the difficulty when it's obviously not matching with what a newly-promoted side would be achieving. You're still doing a great job. And some fantastic signings over there. Looks like you could be in with a shot at some sort of trophy very soon.

The rest of your month was clouded by a poor showing against ManCity but overall you continue to be in great shape in the BPL. It's really a shame the board won't reward your performances so far with additional budget, I agree with you that it's total BS.
Thanks! I tried to do something special with it and could only think about that sort of layout. I'm not even embaressed to say that I was jumping around out of my chair when I scored in the last minute! XD I asked the board for £5m and they downright rejected so i asked for an additional £3.5m and then they replied saying they'll give me £1.5m... It was bad enough having only a £50k wage budget (and £0 transfer budget) at the start of the year and now they only offer another small amount!

Thanks! Exeter's possibly one of the best teams in England but unfortunately, FIFA cannot handle their matches properly when they're playing a 3-4-2-1 with 'out of position' players.

Been thinking about what my FIFA 17 career will be (i know it might be a bit early, but hey!) and I reckon I'll be choosing Grimsby. I might go back to Exeter once again though. Any opinions?

                          Journey to the Top

                          March 2016

                          FA Cup Replay
                          Derby 0-2 Accrington
                          45' Morgan, 54' Kee

And the upsets continued today with a relatively convincing win against Championship side Derby County. Derby controlled much of the first half but just before the break Morgan struck to give us the lead. Winnard tackled Bent in our own half, gave it to Phillips and the playmaker sent Kee through who slipped the ball to his strike partner Morgan for the goal. It was a tidy finish across the keeper to top it all off. Kee doubled the margin with a wonderful effort. He received the ball just outside the D and proceeded to curl it around Carson from 20 yards. Coneely could then only see his long range shot hit the crossbar. Into the quarter finals we go!

                          League Two
                          Accrington 1-1 Plymouth
                          24' Reid (Pen)
                          86' Obita

Plymouth got a very undeserved point thanks to an outrageous penalty decision from the referee. Reid took the spot kick well but there was no way it was a foul. A very special moment gave us our equalizer. Academy product Shaun Obita scored his first ever professional goal. Gornell grabbed another assist slipping the 16 year old in after we had switched to a 4-3-3 again.

                          League Two
                          Barnet 2-1 Accrington
                          43' McClean, 90' Nelson
                          71' Kee

Well that was a kick in the teeth. McClean scored a ridiculous near post header that Mooney should have saved and then Nelson capped off an absurd one touch passing move that none of our players could get near to, in the last minute...Kee gave us a slim chance after we switched to a 4-3-3 with inside forwards but we lost and slipped to 2nd.

                          League Two
                          Notts County 0-0 Accrington

In possibly a title deciding game we had to play our B team with a FA Cup match against Arsenal in two days. Notts sat two points above us in first and while we dominated that's how the table stayed after the game. Gornell had a good chance saved while McCartan wasted a great opportunity after having a goal ruled out for offside. Etheridge made a crucial save with 7 minutes left to play ensuring Notts didn't snatch a late, undeserved winner.

                          FA Cup Quarter Final
                          Arsenal 1-0 Accrington
                          84' Giroud

We gave it all we had but in the end it wasn't enough. Arsenal admittedly wasted many chances but a lot of credit has to go to Mooney in goal who earned man of the match with a defiant display. Substitute Giroud would prove to be the game decider. The Frenchman drifted between Kelly-Evans and Pearson before darting in front of our captain at the last second to meet Santi Cazorla's cross six minutes from time. Sometimes you have to stand up and say Giroud did everything right and that's why he's playing for Arsenal. The Gunners are joined in the last four by Chelsea, QPR and Aston Villa.

                          League Two
                          Accrington 1-0 Carlisle United
                          9' Pearson

Our skipper Pearson put us ahead when he smashed home the ball from six yards after it had been delivered off a corner just 10 minutes in. The majority of the decent chances then came before halftime, a combination of Mooney and Sowunmi blocking a rebound that was heading goalward in probably Carlisle's best attempt. Sowunmi then made a crucial block late in the game, not allowing the attacker to get a shot away after the ball broke free inside our penalty area.

                          League Two
                          Northampton 0-1 Accrington
                          45' McCartan

A Shay McCartan goal right on the cusp of halftime gave us a second consecutive 1-0 win. It could have been more had Adelakun's shot not hit the post late on. A 9th league goal from McCartan would have to do for us and it came courtesy of Mingoia's through ball. McCartan then smashed it across Clarke, leaving the Northampton number one with no chance.

                          League Two
                          Bristol Rovers 0-2 Accrington
                          5' (Pen), 72' Morgan

Bristol dominated the ball (60%-40%) but we, specifically Morgan, took our chances when they came. Morgan won and converted a penalty inside the opening minutes to set us off on the right foot. He then struck again on 72 minutes. His strike partner, Gornell, slid a perfect through ball to match an impeccably timed run to beat the Bristol back four before he curled the ball in off the left post. Notts' 2-2 draw with Oxford means we regain top spot on goal difference.

We started the month pretty well but then we hit a slump in the middle with some disappointing losses and draws. Going out of the FA Cup was hard but I'm proud of the squad and the supporters for getting to a quarter final and not being rolled over easily by a top four side in the Premiership. That result gave us the belief and confidence to close out March with three wins and clean sheets. That run at the end also meant that we regained top spot from Nots albeit on goal difference. It should be an interesting finish to the season with Portsmouth waiting in the long grass to take over should both ourselves and Notts slip up.

As always, Thanks for reading! Also I'll try to get some pics next time as it looks a bit bland.

He's done surprisingly really well. I usually prefer to have a target man if I use a loan forward, and Armstrong is certainly not that. But what I've done to adjust is that when he's up there by himself I instruct him to drift wide and I am able to get him running at the defense from the wings a lot usually with just 1 man to beat. It's been pretty effective so far. I haven't tried him as anything other than a striker at this point but maybe it's something I will make a note of since I'm always tinkering in this career mode anyway!
