Just as I got towards December of my second season at Brighton, I made the wonderfully generous but poorly thought-out decision to loan my Xbox to my friend for his son's birthday party WITHOUT backing up my career mode saves. Needless to say, a bunch of kids destroyed my career mode for no other reason than sh*ts and giggles.

I'm now stuck between reviving the Brighton save from day 1 of the first season, or trying my hand at a career with Darmstadt in the Bundesliga. While I don't really mind starting over with Brighton as it gives me the chance to build for my newfound favourite formation, 4-1-4-1, from the beginning. But then Darmstadt also has a good squad given the budget and expectations, and maybe it'd be good for me to manage outside of England.

I can't believe some of you guys get so deep into your saves. I have been trying to get a career that lasts longer than a few seasons without any success. I was feeling really great with Brighton, winning the Championship and then sitting comfortably in 7th about 14 games into my first Premier League season. I'd made just two signings: Jordan Pickford to guard my net and Alessandro Florenzi to play wide right so that Vladimir Hernandez could do more damage from the middle.

All things said and done, I am leaning more towards Brighton. And knowing me, even if I choose not to use the Seagulls, I'll probably end up taking a different Championship side to the Premier League. There's just something about managing in continental Europe that doesn't have the same feel as taking charge of a club closer to home...

Our academy graduate is showing great potential, but he wouldn't get a lot of valuable playing time for us. We sent him out on loan to gain experience and become a better player.

Thomas Kraft, 76 ovr, 30 years old, GK, 1-year-loan to Sheffield Wednesday

Because of our new goalkeeper signing, Oliver Baumann, our former second-choice keeper Kraft is never going to play more than a handful of games for us. However, Kraft has been part of Hertha BSC since 2011 which is why I felt a bit bad about selling him. We will just keep loaning him out until he decides to retire, and that is when we will let him play his final match for us.

Ondrej Duda, 79 ovr, 23 years old, CAM, 1-year-loan to HSV

Wait, why would I loan out our best CAM and second-best player who is used in that position? Well, I'm too attached to our other CAM, Valentin Stocker, to sell him. Luckily Duda doesn't mind being loaned out and he has been growing steadily during his other loan periods, so this is a win-win situation for everyone.

Julian Schieber, 76 ovr, 29 years old, ST, €9.5M to Villarreal CF

I didn't want to sell Julian Schieber as I like him in real life, but the truth is that he hadn't been that effective for us. Furthermore, Villarreal were willing to match our counter offer of nearly twice Schieber's actual value. We made a good deal, and we wish Schieber all the best.

Instead of splashing the cash after selling Julian Schieber, we decided to buy smart. Unfortunately Vedad Ibisevic is going to retire at the end of the season, so we needed to get a younger replacement for him. We also needed a striker with a rating in the low/mid-70s so that he could be our third-choice striker without complaining too much.
We got two birds with one stone with the cheap purchase of Felix Platte. The Schalke academy graduate is still young, and he has the potential to become a good Bundesliga striker. Platte is both strong and tall, which makes him a capable target man.
Even if Platte doesn't work for us, we will just sell him for profit and sign someone like Davie Selke.

Interestingly enough, we didn't have a single match in the month of August, and this September-y game was our first game of the season. We continued from where we left off last season, and put in a dominant performance to beat Hoffenheim 4-1 in front of our fans. A player who also continued from where he left off last season was Vedad Ibisevic, last season's top scorer, who scored the opening goal of the game.

Hamburger SV 0 - 0 Hertha BSC

This was one of those games where both defences play well. Nothing else to add, really.

Manchester United 0 - 0 Hertha BSC

Our first Champions League game ever was at the Theatre of Dreams against (what used to be) one of the best teams in Europe. However, the match itself didn't end up being anything like a dream for us. United had the majority of chances, and when we finally got a great chance when Alexander Esswein broke free 1-on-1 in the 87th minute, his shot got saved. A point is still a point, though, and I'm proud of our performance.

Vedad Ibisevic sprained his ankle and will be injured for 3 weeks.

Salomon Kalou put us ahead with a nice curling shot right after the half an hour mark, and John Anthony Brooks scored our second with a very powerful header from a corner. Köln were no match for us in this match.

Yet another game against Dortmund, and yet another draw. Julian Weigl put the yellow-and-blacks ahead with a powerful first-time shot which flew into the top right corner of the net, leaving our keeper with no chance of saving it. Our boys showed great character to back, though, and in the 61st minute our substitute Alexander Esswein put the ball past Roman Bürki in the BVB goal to finish off a beautiful solo run. Both teams had a couple of chances afterwards, but none of those chances made their way into the net. Just as always, a point against Dortmund is not bad.

Recently-promoted Bochum had gotten off to a very good start, and they were even leading the league for a couple of matchdays. However, they were no much for us and that was made clear in the opening minutes of the game. Mitchell Weiser raced past Bochum's left back, and played a low cross into the box where Vladimir Darida put it into the back of the net. Soon Salomon Kalou netted our second, and ten minutes into the second half Salif Sané got to a low cross inside the box to increase our lead to three. In the 75th minute Bochum's Ardemagni pulled one back, but it wasn't enough and we came out on top.

My Thoughts

League Form - We have started the season off in great fashion and we sit in third. That is exactly what I was hoping for. My only complaint is our 0-0 draw with Hamburger SV, but that was nothing serious, as we showed in the other games. However, it is still fairly early.

Champions League! - We are playing Champions League football! Our group could've been easier, though, and realistically every team out of Man Utd, Sporting, Sevilla, and us could progress into the next round. I want one of those teams to be us, of course.

Players - Mitchell Weiser has been in great form, assisting several goals. Ibisevic played well before his injury, and Kalou has stepped up with a couple of goals. Our defensive line has done a great job, and the CDMs have fínally started to defend a bit more (thanks, Cabee and Indi!). Rune Jarstein starts in goal in league games, while Oliver Baumann gets to play in cup competitions.

Now that the physical growth has been more or less fixed by EA, I couldn't wait to make this save! Back in 1995, Match Of The Day pundit Alan Hansen came out with one of the most infamous punditry quotes of all time: "You can't win anything with kids." and the bottom line of this to win the champions league with a team only from the youth academy. I have simmed two seasons in order to have a team full of youth academy players and the next post will get things started like any normal career.

Rules:
· Only youth academy players allowed
· Only 1 star youth scouts allowed until promotion to Premier League (may be subject to change)
· No transfers or loans In

Youth Scouting Rules:
· Can only scout within league country in 1st season (UK)

· Scout-able regions:
o League 2 Season 1 – UK only
o League 2 Season 2 – Northern Europe

o League 1 – All of the above including chosen region from the other three regions in Europe (Central, Southern or Rest of Europe) for each season in League 1, another European region can be added

o Championship Season 1 – All European regions can be scouted including either North America or Asia

Three season defining games:
27/08/16 - Wexford Youths vs Cheltenham Town – 2-0 win: Our first league win of the season came with the new formation of the 4-3-1-2 which saw two quick successive goals by Dempsey and Furlong in the 43rd and 45th minutes respectively and our first clean sheet included.

07/12/16 - Wexford Youths vs Charlton Athletic – 1-1 (5-4 PEN) win: We continued our run through the Checkatrade Trophy after an early goal by Chris Kenny lead us into penalties where we were clinical enough to advance through into the area final.

07/12/16 - Wexford Youths vs Newport County – 2-0 win: After a brutal amount of games in a small amount of time with a tiny team, the Youths start off the new year with a win that showed grit and determination to stay away from the relegation zone with goals by Jonny Bonner and youngster Vinny Quinlan to secure three crucial points. This particular win sparked what the fans called the ‘Quinlan Revelation’.

With substantial growth and impressive training performances the 6 foot 3 16-year-old looks to be our leading centre back for many years.

Three season defining games:
22/08/17 - Wexford Youths vs Stoke City – 3-6 loss: Could have been the most exciting game for the Youths in the EFL cup where they met up against Stoke City. The Youths went 3-1 up through goals by Ewan Robinson, Jordan Smylie and an own goal by Muniesa just after the hour mark. Jordan Smylie’s goal was the pick of the lot after being fed the ball through the defence before turning inside onto his stronger left foot, getting away from his marker before curling a sweet ball into the far top corner. The Youths then went on to concede five goals from the 62nd to the 120th minutes which knocked them out of the cup but the result did not fully reflect the quality of the two teams in that match.

13/12/17 - Gillingham vs Wexford Youths – 2-1 loss: Gillingham’sFrank Nouble scored in the last minutes of the game in order to save both of the sides from extra time with a well executed chip over the Youths goalkeeper Lewis Clarke who put in an outstanding performance. Oliver Dunlop equalised just before the hour mark but it was not to be.

20/01/18 - Wexford Youths vs Wycombe – 2-1 win: Smylie gets both goals for the three points in a match where the Youths displayed determination after going one-nil down early to an Akinfenwa header.

Peter Kelly was unexpectedly forced onto the bench throughout the whole season as Lewis Clarke made 52 appearances with 13 clean sheets and 70 goals conceded. The English keeper has a bright future and if he continues his development, some big clubs might be interested in him.

Hahaha, yep! I tried to find a team that goes with the whole youth theme and I found Young Boys and Wexford Youths. Putting Young Boys into League 2 would have given me instant promotion objectives and I'd end up being fired once I had replaced all the team with academy players so I went with The Youths. Their kits are really nice as well!

5. Your attack must be versatile. There will be teams who invite pressure. There will also be teams who give you space to run into. And there will be teams who hound you the moment you touch the ball. Your attack needs to be versatile enough to handle any situation at any time against any opponent. A good mix of attack-minded midfielders, rapid wingers, and complete strikers should do the trick.

6. Have some lightning on the bench. When the opposition gets tired, they leave gaps that can be exploited by fresh legs. Having an attack-minded player with 85+ pace on the bench can prove useful after 70-75 minutes. They have the ability to turn losses into draws, draws into wins, and wins into blowouts. If the player in question can pass, dribble and shoot like a charm in addition to being fast as lightning, a lot of great things will happen.

7. Upgrade for quality over quantity. When adding to your squad in the transfer windows, don’t stockpile players or get more depth than is necessary. No team needs six full backs or five strikers of first-team quality. If you have money to spare and want to sign a prospect for the future, by all means do so. But if funds are tight, buy the best players you can only if they will improve on what you already have.

8. Play the market wisely. Some insane deals are lurking beneath the surface. You can get world-class prospects on loan for up to two years by paying nothing but wages. You can find the next Totti or Zidane untouched by the beautiful game, lying in the free agent pool, just waiting for someone to sign him. And if you’re smart, you can pick up some incredibly great players who are past their prime but still better than anyone on your team.

9. Pick your tactics and stay true. The worst thing in Career Mode is spending all summer building a 4-5-1 squad optimised for possession, only to decide after six games that you would rather play 4-4-2 and go counter-attacking. Use the preseason tournament to gauge what style of play you enjoy and works best for you. And once you make a decision, don’t let a few bad results force you to make an overhaul.

10. Learn the difference between a point gained and two lost. Managing a football club in Career Mode is a marathon, not a sprint. So is winning the league title. this is solid, only thing I might add is set the game on a difficulty that will challenge you in accordance to what your roster looks like, and sort on the same subject be realistic with your goals (i.e.: Villareal shouldn't be winning a treble on your first season)

There is one word on the horizon. Change. At the turn of the century, Schalke 04 were dining at the top table in German and European football without ever quite reaching the summit. Now, arguably Manchester United's greatest ever captain is back in the managerial hot seat in a strange move. After the heroics of the Irish national team at this summer's Euros, Keane has decided to branch out on his own once again. Late last night it is believed that the Irishman's representatives and the Schalke directors hashed out a deal for Keane to take over as manager. Fans are, understandably, dubious about the appointment but perhaps the fire and grit will take Die Knappen back to the top.

@Cabee - First off, love the young academy approach, quite an intriguing one! What are the overalls looking for your players? As for Bochum, good two performances against Bayern, and I hope you beat Hoffenheim and advance to the finals!

That's primarily why I chose them as I wanted a fun team to use that was reasonably stroganoff already and had a strong emphasis on bringing youth through. I'm looking forward to seeing how Mever, Geis, Goretzka etc develop.

Živković is showing no signs of trouble adapting to our team and our attacking trio made all the difference in a solid win at De Grolsch Veste. It was Živković's shooting that opened up the scoring as his strong volley was off target but deflected off Bart Straalman's to go in. Veldwijk then increased his lead in the league's scoring race and Wesley Sneijder wrapped it up near the end on a counter attack off a nice through feed from Alessio Da Cruz.

Veldwijk's header in the 65th minute scored, going in at the GK's top-right corner.

Review: Let's break down all the transfers. Olaitan had been barking for a couple of months about lack of playing time and finally decided to request to be transferred. With Veldwijk and Børven so on point this season there just weren't a whole of minutes that I could give Olaitan. It was a shame because he had been a very serviceable scorer when called upon, although understandably that was probably also the same reason why he felt he needed more playing time. Whether he gets that at Heerenveen remains to be seen. Børven had been unbelievable for me in my season and a half here but I was going to need to upgrade from him at some point and his value was as high as it was ever going to be. I was able to get over twice his value on the deal and there were plenty of clubs interested in his services. The extra funds gave me the ammunition I needed to purchase Živković, someone I had targeted since my arrival at the club. He brings top speed to the attack and should be an excellent change of pace to Veldwijk who is more of an agile, lengthy guy. Živković has really fit in right away and I'm hopeful he'll make us really lethal. Obviously I also needed to bring in a backup striker and I was pleased to get Cornelius and look forward to seeing how he performs. At that point, with not enough money left to bring in any more impact players, I turned my attention to next season and feel like I reeled in two very good players in St. Juste and Acquah. St. Juste should improve our defense which has performed a lot better in the Eredivisie this season but hasn't been as solid in the CL. Acquah gives me options once Sneijder retires at the end of the season, which is important for me because Juanpi has yet to show consistent form at CAM. The last move was loaning out Drost, who was barely getting playing time as on occasional backup with the B-squad. Hopefully he'll see more minutes at N.E.C.

Performance wise it was a great start to the second half of the season with excellent performances by our main squad and a solid outing by our B-squad. We had to work harder than I thought we would need to against ADO but shook that off with a thorough beatdown of Ajax to pretty much put the current league champs out of contention for a repeat. We followed that with a hard-earned but strong win against De Graafschap and the draw against Willem in which Karlsson wrapped up a very good month, totaling 4 goals. He was probably one of the biggest reasons why I couldn't give Olaitan more playing time and I'm nearly convinced I'm going to try to acquire him permanently next summer.

LW - Roy Verrips (60 OVR, 82-88): 17-year old attacking winger from the Netherlands flashing pace (78acc/77spd) and agility (77). He checks in at 5'11" and 158lbs and is the top prospect in the academy. However, he could benefit from a stay in the academy until the summer.

CM - Vasco Granero (56 OVR, 81-87): 17-year old from Venezuela described as a playmaker who has more potential than we initially thought. He possesses good agility (78) although he needs to work hard in the academy to become useful for the senior roster.

CM - Miguel Varela (50 OVR, 81-87): 17-year old from Venezuela described as defensive minded. Despite his age he's still a very raw prospect, although his stamina (73) and agility (72) are noticeable. However, in our scouts' opinions his promise is undeniable, including his 6'2", 169lbs frame.

LB - Odisseas Ludwig (62 OVR, 80-86): 16-year old from Germany described as physically strong who possesses great potential according to the final assessment from our youth scouts. The jumping (79), strength (79), aggression (77), and pace (75spd/74acc) are noticeable and well advanced for his age so our youth scouts are working on developing his defensive game.

RW - Mauro Pröpper (59 OVR, 80-86): 16-year old from the Netherlands who is displaying very good agility (76) at a very young age to go with promising pace (73acc/67spd). Already labeled by our scouts as someone showing great potential.

RW - Rick El Makrini (58 OVR, 80-86): 16-year old from the Netherlands with notable pace (78spd/74acc) and balance (74) who shows a lot of promise early on.

CB - Agustin Benitez (58 OVR, 80-86): 15-year old from Venezuela showing a lot of promise. Described as physically strong, Benitez displays excellent aggression (79) and jumping (72) for his age.

GK - Olivier Ofori (60 OVR, 79-85): Our top goalkeeper prospect recently turned 17 years and the Belgian now stands at 6'5" and 165lbs, excellent for his position. He has been progressing well and steadily in the academy and if he can remain there for the rest of the season he could become our third GK as soon as next season.

CB - Rico Kehrer (64 OVR, 78-84): The 16-year old from Germany is part of a pipeline of centre backs from that country in our academy/roster. He currently stands at 5'5" and 152lbs and is considered physically strong. He's an aggressive (90) defender who has been developing steadily in the academy and is likely to be promoted within the next 6 months.

RM - Jens Schuermans (61 OVR, 76-82): 16-year old from Belgium described as a playmaker. He's only 4'11" and 123lbs at the moment but he's crazy agile (76) for someone his age. He flashes some nice potential.

CF - Gustavo Jimenez (47 OVR, 76-82): 17-year old from Venezuela signed to the squad in big part due to the position that he plays. He becomes the first striker/centre-forward to join the academy so he has that going for him, to go along with noticeable size (6'4", 176lbs), strength (79), speed (76), and jumping (76). He has the tools to be come a useful scorer for us in the future.

GK - Nill Oulare (60 OVR, 74-80): 16-year old from Belgium currently standing at 5'9" and 158lbs. He has been developing well in his time in the academy although he projects as more of backup GK since scouts have concluded he doesn't have starting potential.

I promoted Mohamed Mühren (RM, 61 OVR) with the hopes we could get him out on loan but instead he'll take over in the role Drost had had so far this season.

Roda shouldn't be to much of an issue although it will be our third consecutive road game before we get back home for a rivalry game that we have owned since my arrival here. Utrecht and Groningen are always complicated opponents and it won't be helpful to have a trip to Italy in between. It's time to start to show what we're really made of. Stay tuned!

Reading Football Club is delighted to announce that David Gill has today been appointed as Chief Executive with Jaap Stam as Director of Football. The club would like to thank their predecessors, Nigel Howe and Nick Hammond, for their many years of service.

Mr. Gill, a proud Berkshire native, was born and raised in Reading. A boyhood Royals fan, he comes to us with nearly 20 years of experience across multiple capacities at Manchester United.

"When I made the decision to leave Manchester United, it was to retire from a long yet rewarding career. But when the opportunity arose to join Reading and hopefully do something wonderful for the club I grew up supporting, I knew it was not something I could pass up," he said.

Mr. Stam is also a former Manchester United alumnus, having made over 100 appearances for the club, including the famous 1999 UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich that sealed English football's first continental treble.

"I look forward to working with Mr. Gill and the club to help Reading realise our dream of playing in the Premier League," said the former Netherlands defender with 67 caps to his name. "We want to be at the apex of the English game, and we have the infrastructure to do it."
