Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
We Try. We Fail. We Win.
May 2019
Semi Final
TSG Hoffenheim 0 - 3 Hertha BSC
Esswein 105', 117', Stocker 108'
And we are through to the final in Berlin! The first two halves of this semi final encounter were very evenly matched with both teams having some chances to go ahead. Late into the second half we substituted Alexander Esswein onto the pitch, and the pacy winger turned the balance of the game in our favour single-handedly. First, in the last minutes of the first half of extra time, he broke free in the attacking third, outmuscled a Hoffenheim defender, and then shot the ball into the bottom right corner of the net with his left foot. Just a few minutes into the second half of extra time the 'Essi show' continued: Esswein had the ball on the left flank, while Valentin Stocker was making a run down the middle. Esswein then played an over-the-top ball to Stocker, who then had an easy job putting the ball past the Hoffenheim keeper. Ten minutes later this tandem stroke again, when Stocker played the ball to Esswein from a corner. Esswein then ran the edge of the D and fired a powerful strike into the top right corner of the net. What a game from our #7! We will face Köln in the final.
FC Schalke 04 0 - 1 Hertha BSC
Duda 27'
This was a superior defensive performance from the boys from Berlin as Schalke didn't manage to take a single shot in the entire game. The only goal of the game came in the 27th minute when Ondrej Duda shot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
Tomas Lang (LM, 77 ovr, 18y, pot. to be special) made his debut in this game.
Bayern München 0 - 0 Hertha BSC
Quite an anticlimactic and pointless game, to be honest. Both sets of defenders played very well.
Hertha BSC 1 - 0 Borussia Dortmund
Ibisevic 45' pen
This was another pointless match-up between two top four sides. Vedad Ibisevic got us the winning goal with yet another penalty.
1. FC Köln 0 - 2 Hertha BSC
Weiser 45', Ibisevic 77' pen
It's always nice to conclude the season on a high note, especially when our retiring captain gets to score a goal in his last ever Bundesliga match. Also, this league match against Köln was good preparation for the cup final against them.
Final
1. FC Köln 0 - 3 Hertha BSC
Ibisevic 39', 75', Kalou 56'
We did it, we won the cup! More importantly, Hertha BSC have won their first relevant trophy since 2003! Additionally, this was an amazing way for Vedad Ibisevic and Salomon Kalou to finish their wonderful footballing careers. Ibisevic scored the winning goal in the 39th minute with a header which bounced off the keeper's hand into his foot and from there into the bar and finally over the line. Ten minutes into the second half Kalou finished a counter attack neatly, and twenty minutes later Ibisevic got his brace with yet another header. Köln were powerless against us, and we raised the DFB Pokal trophy in front of the packed Olympiastadion!

My Thoughts
League - A very good second-place finish saw an improvement of one spot from last season. Finishing only five points away from the league winners is a very good achievement, and I'm very proud of the team.
Cup - We won the cup! What else can I say? Even though (I think) every cup game we played leading up to the final was decided in extra time, we showed great character to win those matches.
Champions League - It was slightly disappointing to get eliminated by Roma, who scored in the 85th+ minute, but we still put up a good fight against them. More importantly, we managed to beat European powerhouses Manchester United in the process, so that's something to be proud of. Better luck next season.
Player Performances - Vedad Ibisevic netted 15 league goals, getting the golden boot (or the German equivalent, the Torjägerkannone) for his efforts, but only 6 of those 15 goals were scored in open play. In other words, Ibisevic scored 9 league goals from the penalty spot. Not that impressive, eh? However, I'm still very grateful for what our skipper did for the team, and Hertha BSC wish him a pleasant retirement.
Mitchell Weiser had yet another good - but inconsistent - season on our right flank, assisting 8 goals in the league and reaching a double digit figure in all competitions. The 25-year-old needs to be more consistent, though, as most of his good games came in short bursts.
Niklas Stark did a very good job in replacing the departed John Anthony Brooks. The young central defender is a certain starter next season.
More of this in the next update which will be the squad review.
Next Season - First of all, Admir Mehmedi and Niklas Süle will join the squad as their current contracts are running out and we signed them on Bosman deals. However, we will also need to sign a replacement striker (I have my eyes on Davie Selke) for Ibisevic as Felix Platte is the only capable striker we have right now (Ademilson is not capable). I'm not looking to sign or sell anyone apart from the Brazilian attacker who flopped for us.
The board wants us to win the league which is something we might be able to do. It will take a lot of effort, but it's possible. Crazier things have happened in football before.

Season 4
The Mariners
October 2019
Europa League Group Stage
Grimsby Town 1 - 1 Valencia CF
GRI - Banton 45'
VAL - Cartabia 90'
MOTM: Banton
While Valencia won the possession battle, we had the majority of the clear cut chances. After a lively first half we ended it with some great build up play that ultimately led to Hourihane playing Banton down the left and he finished low across the goal to give us the lead. We continued to create chances in the second half, but our finishing seemed to suddenly leave us and we couldn't find a precious second goal. Then in the dying minutes Cartabia got on to the end of a grounded cross into the box and tapped it home for the equalizer in heartbreaking fashion.
Chelsea FC 0 - 1 Grimsby Town
GRI - Chambers 90'
MOTM: Bennett
We absolutely shut Chelsea down with our defense. They took just a single shot all game, and it wasn't even on target. On the other end though, Chelsea was giving us a tough time of our own though, but we did create several chances that were all swept away by Courtois. In the last minute of the match though, it was two of our original players who came up with us from League 2 that combined to get us the win. Bogle was able to flick the ball on to Chambers running in on the right and his low shot beat Courtois to the far post and he wheeled away in celebration.
Grimsby Town 1 - 2 Arsenal FC
GRI - Banton 48'
ARS - Benteke 2', Sanchez 10'
MOTM: Banton
We knew it wasn't going to last forever, and honestly it was a small miracle that we remained unbeaten for even this long. Arsenal dominated us almost literally from the first minute. Benteke got his head on the end of a cross and powered it past our keeper to give them the early lead. Sanchez then doubled that lead inside of 10 minutes with Benteke playing the ball to him unmarked inside of our box and he blasted it first time into the top corner. Our chances were few and far between, but we did manage to pull one back at the start of the second half when Amang played the ball on to Banton on the left and he beat the keeper on the near post. Despite our best efforts though we weren't able to get anything more and we were handed our first loss in this Premier League campaign.
Europa League Group Stage
Rio Ave 0 - 2 Grimsby Town
GRI - Banton 13', Vieira 39'
MOTM: Vieira
Finally we get a win in Europe this season. We outclassed Rio Ave easily in this one, and we did all of our damage in the first half. Banton scored first making a back post run and Al Kuwaykibi played him the ball and he fired it across to the far post. Vieira then added the second after making a nice run into the box and Hourihane found him in space and he took his time to place the ball across the keeper to double the lead. We held our defense together in the second half and the scoreline stayed the same all the way until the end.
Everton FC 0 - 2 Grimsby Town
GRI - Cole 29', Chambers 81'
MOTM: Cole
That was a great way to close out the month, especially after dropping our first game prior to this. Even more impressive was that it was with our 2nd team as well. It was our pace up front that really did them in though, and we exploited their back line time and time again. Cole started it off by just racing past everyone on the defense and as the keeper came out to challenge him he poke it past him and inside the far post. The second goal was a bit of luck as Reid sent a cross in and the keeper punched it away straight to Chambers and all he had to do was place it into the open net. Our defense was impressive once again and the 2 goals was more than enough to get the win for us.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
The September 2017 update is here.
Notts County has been playing steady for the most part but a few more draws have made us lose ground on Rotherham. After this suspect play, we are now third in league play.
We also had another EFL match we saw pitted against West Brom. Boy this match had all the drama of a major English derby. The match was locked at 1 goal apiece for the majority of the match. Extra time had to be used which saw us score a goal in the 109th minute. Then it was hold onto to your tail for the last eleven. That's what Notts did holding on to the 2-1 lead for the victory.
So all in all September saw us also beat Fleetwood in Checktrade competition. So now the October update will coming on tomorrow. The lads have been fighting which is all I can ask of them.Currently playing: (In order of Most Time)

Arsenal Resign Captain
Koscielny Has Started All 17 Premier League Games
LONDON -- Arsenal, who currently sit atop the Premier League, have resigned their captain and French International Laurent Koscielny to a 1 year extension. Koscielny's contract was set to expire in June, so the Gunners are elated to have the contract negotiations signed, sealed and delivered prior to the extremely busy festive period, and looming January Transfer Window. Having just turned 31 in September, only 1 year has been added to the deal, signing him through June of 2018, making £140,000/week at The Emirates.
In lesser news, Arsenal have also resigned promising youngster, Ainsley Maitland-Miles to a 3 year extension. Maitland-Niles, just 19 has been in the Arsenal Academy since he was just 6 years old--and the Gunners are pleased to keep the home grown talent to see how he develops. He features mostly as a defensive midfielder, but also has seen limited action at right back.Arsenal | New York YankeesComment

The Exiles go into their third consecutive season in the BPL as a team that offers a lot of curiosity. Newport County is no longer a club that will sneak up on anyone as a surprise contender in the league but they are also far from being a prime pick to be league champions. That being said, Giovanni Marccelino's squad will get a taste of what is like to be one of the best teams in the league as the club's board reportedly expects them to at least replicate their positioning in the standings over the last couple of seasons. Marccelino welcomes the challenge of following up on back-to-back top-5 finishes in the league mostly because he would like to see his squad break into the top 4 teams in the league to qualify for next season's Champions League. Expectations also include The Exiles winning the UEL now that they return to the competition for a third consecutive time following back-to-back runs into the quarter finals, as well as a run into the quarter finals of the F.A. Cup. Luckily for Marccelino the increased expectations come with an increased budget. Newport County reportedly starts the season with a €26.5 million transfer budget and €130K wage budget, increases of €9.5 million and €50K respectively, certainly a more competitive budget considering the kind of money other BPL teams regularly throw around during transfer windows.
For pre-season this summer The Exiles accepted an invitation to participate in the European Continental Shield (ECS) taking place in Marccelino's homeland, Italy. Below is a look at how pre-season went:
SpoilerECS - Group Match 1
Newport County - Stade Rennais FC (2-2)
Potter 18' (Gordon)
Boga 33'
Gersbeck 63' (Embolo)
Saïd 69'
Boëtius 86'
This was an entertaining start to pre-season in which Marccelino started a mix of his A and B squads. The Exiles may have gotten lucky with the draw after failing to get an edge on either possession (44%) or shots (5 compared to 8 from the French club)
ECS - Group Match 2
Fiorentina - Newport County (2-4)
Pogba 11' (pen)
Rennella 45+2'
Rebić 51'
Pogba 56'
Moore 90+1' (Gersbeck)
Allen 90+3' (Embolo)
Luca Lezzerini saved penalty kicks from Ron Vlaar and Nicolas Gersbeck to help Fiorentina stay in this game but a couple of stoppage time goals from Newport County put the Italian goalkeeper's effort to waste. Newport County looked much better on attack in this game, firing off 14 shots (7 on target).
ECS - Group Match 3
Newport County - Olym. Lyon (5-0)
Embolo 6' (Ringdal Støvland)
Al Shahrani 9' (Potter)
Vlaar 20' (Potter)
Fox 55' (Ringdal Støvland)
Embolo 74'
Al Sharani 76'
What on paper looked to be the toughest match in the group stage for The Exiles turned out to be a laugher as Newport County scored early and often on Lyon's backup GK, Lucas Mocio. Clubs routinely give backup players a chance to show their worth in pre-season tournaments but Mocio failed big time as Marccelino's club clinched a spot into the semi finals and sent Lyon packing in the process.
ECS - Semi Final
Newport County - Lazio (1-0)
Ringdal Støvland 45+2' (Moore)
Zouma 31'
Gordon 65'
Guerreiro 18' (dislocated shoulder, out for 8 weeks)
Kjetil Ringdal Støvland finally made an appearance in the scoring sheet that turned out to be timely as his goal was the only one in this game to book The Exiles into the ECS final. Perhaps the bigger news is Raphaël Guerreiro's injury which could keep him out of action until early September.
ECS - Final
Milan - Newport County (1-0)
De Sciglio 45'
Pogba 79' (broken toe, out for 2 months)
The Exiles lost twice, getting shouted out of the scoring sheet despite having 8 of their 11 shots on target to lose this game on Mattia De Sciglio's goal before the half, then losing last season's team MVP Paul Pogba to injury for a couple of months. Newport County will head into the season with half of their midfield sidelined with injury although luckily for them their skipper, Jefferson Farfán, should be ready to roll for the season opener after the broken toe injury he suffered this past May.

Transfer News- Niklas Süle (CB, 84 OVR) acquired from 1899 Hoffenheim for €30 million.
- Andrea De Girolamo (CAM, 74 OVR) loaned to Aston Villa on short-term.

League Match 1
Arsenal - Newport County (1-2)
Embolo 38' (Ringdal Støvland)
Gordon 57' (Moore)
Coquelin 79'
The Exiles played a very compact game and were very efficient on the attack to start off their season with a huge road win at the Emirates Stadium. Newport County only took 4 shots but they were all on target. Embolo opened up the scoring late in the first half following a cheeky backheel assist from Ringdal Støvland. Then in the 57th minute Bondz Moore, who did a great job filling in for Guerreiro, lobbed a perfect cross towards Clark Gordon who headed the ball into the net for what would be the game-winning goal. On defense Marccelino's squad flustered Arsenal's attack in Süle's debut.
Ringdal Støvland's backheel assist to Embolo for the opening score.

Transfer News- Jeff Cohen (LB, 66 OVR) loaned to Shrewsbury on short-term.

League Match 2
Newport County - Hull City (1-1)
Palacios 22'
Ringdal Støvland 90+1' (Farfán)
RS saved the day on The Exiles home opener, receiving a long grounded pass from a free kick near midfield then sealing off his defender to turn around and fire a powerful crossing shot, finally beating Bill Hamid. The former Exiles' goalkeeper was outstanding on this day collecting 7 saves, each seemingly more impressive than the previous one.
______________________________________
Transfer News- Gary Woods (CM, 71 OVR) sold to Norwich for €2.5 million.
- Eiichi Suzuki (GK, 71 OVR) sold to Derby County for €2.5 million.
______________________________________
League Match 3
Newcastle Utd - Newport County (1-1)
Fernandes 12'
Gordon 21' (Farfán)
Zouma 16' (broken rib, out for 3 months)
Injuries keep piling up for The Exiles. Marccelino's squad was only able to salvage a draw St. James' Park despite having the better performance and received worst news after the game when told the details of Kurt Zouma's injury. That makes three Newport County starters out with injury.
League Cup - Round 2
Newport County - Wolves (1-0)
Leya Iseka 54' (Gersbeck)
Giles 74'
Aaron Leya Iseka was nearly hand-delivered a goal by Gersbeck and that was enough to help The Exiles overcome an inaccurate shooting performance to move on in the League Cup. Newport County dominated the game with possession (54%) and 13 shots but they were only on target in 5 occasions.
Wolverhampton's Benik Afobe didn't have many scoring chances. This shot was on target but saved by Hayato Matsuki.
League Match 4
Newport County - Burnley (2-1)
Moore 21' (Boëtius)
Farfán 45+3' (pen)
Grimes 84'
Ince 10' (broken elbow, out for 2 months)
That isn't a typo: The Exiles are now down to their third-choice defensive midfielder after Rohan Ince broke his elbow just four weeks into the season, this after a Paul Pogba broken toe in the final game of the pre-season. That third-choice CDM, academy-graduate Doke Boëtius, stepped up with an assist shortly after entering the game and generally played well to help The Exiles get their second win of the season after back-to-back draws in the BPL.
______________________________________
Transfer News- Tom Maguire (CB, 66 OVR) loaned to Middlesbrough on short-term.
______________________________________
Analysis: The Exiles made it through the beginning of the season undefeated and are just four points behind league-leading Tottenham, who don't appear to have dropped form after a dominant year last season. That Newport County has been able to remain competitive is just amazing considering the number of significant injuries their roster has suffered. Marccelino has worked magic as he adjusts to every injury but one has to wonder how long he'll be able to continue to avoid defeat. Guerreiro will be due back the second week of September, not a moment too soon for Exiles' fans. Next month will also bring the start of the Euro League where Newport County will be joined by Lech Poznań, FC Krasnodar, and SK Sturm Graz.
Süle, The Exiles' only acquisition this summer, has not had an easy time adjusting to his new team/league. Newport County's main squad was unable to secure a clean sheet in August, although that doesn't fall entirely on Süle's performances. The German is an outstanding defender and an incredible acquisition by the club who is likely to find his niche sooner than later. The only downside of his arrival was that it significantly limited the club's budget for the remaining of the transfer window, in which Marccelino and the board did a good of job of selling a few players no longer on the team's short and long term plans as well as finding more playing opportunities for a number of their academy graduates. Süle's arrival had one more effect on the roster as it likely nixed a reported deal between Newport County and Torino that would had sent Clark Gordon and an undisclosed fee to Italy in an exchange for Daniele Baselli, a report that only increases rumors that The Exiles may be trying to turn the page on the exciting prospect as the CAM of the future.
The Academy
(listed by their ranking in it)
RM - Tobias Perez (63 OVR, 88-94 POT): This 17-year old from France has turned out to be a great find. Scouts unanimously agree he has potential to be special and he is now the top prospect in the academy. He possesses outstanding pace (78acc/73spd) for his age to go with excellent balance (73) and curve (75) on the ball.
ST - Billel Cissé (58 OVR, 86-92): This 17-year old striker from France Standing at 5'9" and 147lbs is officially the next top prospect for the club at this position. Cissé's top attribute is his pace (73 acc, 71 spd) which should come in handy for his size. The club is working on developing his striker skills.
CDM - Pierre Tägtström (57 OVR, 79-93): 16-year old from Sweden who is next in a great lineup of defensive midfielders developed by the club since Marccelino's arrival. Described as physically strong, Tägtström's exciting potential is undeniable and he displays excellent aggressiveness (86) towards the ball. At his age and with the club's depth at the position he should be able to spend time developing in the academy without any rush.
LW - Andre Domingues (57 OVR, 77-83): 16-year old from Portugal who is starting to lose the rawness of his game and slow creeping towards his great potential. His top attribute continues to be his pace (75acc/70spd), although his agility (72) and balance (71) are also notable.
CDM - Andy Tandia (51 OVR, 75-81): Yet another defensive midfielder prospect, this 17-year old prospect from France currently projects as more of a future backup for the club.
* Recent addition
Prized prospect, Marcos Andrade (LW, 70 OVR), has finally been promoted to the senior roster. His promotion comes at a bad time for Jack Giles who has seen his playing time decline over the last season and currently is being used in the role Andrade is most likely to compete for right away: backup wide midfielder on the left.
September Schedule
9/4: at Austria (WC Qualifying)
9/8: vs Turkey (WC Qualifying)
9/11: at Manchester City
9/16: vs FC Krasnodar (Euro League)
9/18: vs Norwich
9/21: vs Blackburn Rovers (League Cup)
9/25: at Leicester City
9/30: at SK Sturm Graz (Euro League)
Marccelino will have a busy month in September, first trying to complete an improbable run in WC Qualifying with Hungary, then trying to lead an injury-ridden Exiles' squad through three different competitions.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Notts County 2017 Update
The month of September rolled in and league play has become kind of brutal. The squad is lumbering through matches. We took only a couple of victories and have started a run of draws. This run of draws have placed us third in the league.
In EPL Cup action things did not fair any better there either. We put in a rather lackluster effort angainst Brentford that saw us fall 1-0. We could not get one goal into the net. So that ended our run in EPL another season another exit in the EPL Cup.
We will see how November treats us, but we need a turn around soon. On a side note the YA saw some rather nice additions. We have a couple of gems that are 15 years old that will bring some excitement in our future. We are going to take our time developing these two players. We also have one holdover left from last season and a nice 16 year old LM that has only recently joined the YA that is a 60 already. Bring on November the squad will ing to turn things around.Currently playing: (In order of Most Time)

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Previous post was October update.
Now for the November 2017 update.
November was a difficult month in league play. We went through a period of five straight draws. This almost put us fourth in the league. Towards the end of the month we made some lineup adjustments that will show us a spark.
We also lost in the EPL play to Brentford 1-0, the team just could not get a goal.Currently playing: (In order of Most Time)

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Notts County December 2017 update.
This month we started turning the corner. The lineup adjustments paid off as Sheppard went on a scoring tear. Getting a hat trick in league play. We started winning matches, to put us back into second. Then came Rotherham, this match was huge trying to gain ground on them. This match saw get a 1-0 lead only to blow it near the end, giving us a draw and not making up any ground on them. As the month ended in league play we are 10 points behind Rotherham.
We started FA Cup action this month against Wycombe, and boy I thought we were going to have an early exit, Sheppard and reserve ST Cowan brought us out helping us to move on in FA Cup action.
In squad news we lost one of our rotating CM to a broken tailbone gone for four months. Sheppard is now saying he is homesick and wants to leave in January transfer window and the board has imputed as well. So we will see how this drama will play out. Even though we earned promotion last season and lost in semis of FA Cup and are second in league this season, monetary goals may get me sacked this season as my rating is a 68. So time will tell how this goes.Currently playing: (In order of Most Time)

Season 4
The Mariners
November 2019
Grimsby Town 3 - 0 Bournemouth
GRI - Amang 44', Cole 72', Banton 88' (PEN)
MOTM: Osadebe
I honestly expected Bournemouth to put up more of a fight than this, but they managed just a single shot the entire night and it wasn't even on target. On the other end we created plenty of chances, and executed well on those. Our first came at the end of the first half with Al Kuwaykibi taking the ball out wide and then playing it to Amang running into the box and he powered his shot into the top left corner. Cole came on as a substitute and added the second getting the ball on the right from Osadebe and he slotted it low to the far post. As if to add insult to injury, Cook took out Banton in the box conceding a penalty and giving us another chance to extend the lead further. Banton sent the keeper the wrong way and he scored easily from the spot.
Europa League Group Stage
Valencia CF 0 - 1 Grimsby Town
GRI - Banton 82'
MOTM: Banton
This was an unbelievably close game, and it was a great result to come out with the win. We traded blows throughout the entire match, and in the closing minutes we were able to grab the winner in stunning fashion. Cole played a great ball to put Banton through on the left and he powered his shot past the keeper for the deciding goal. The only downside here was losing Al Kuwaykibi and Osadebe both to injury. Hopefully they won't be lasting problems.
Hull City 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
HUL - Meyler 13'
GRI - Cole 18'
MOTM: Livemore
A point from this felt like a good result considering we were fielding mostly second choice players because of fatigue. It was nice to see us fight back on the road after falling behind as well. Early on Livemore did a fantastic job to draw the defense into him and he played the ball over to Meyler for the quick finish past the keeper and they had the lead. But their lead didn't last long and Morris played Cole out wide and he used his pace to cut inside and then finished with a well placed shot on the near post to equalize. Hull probably had the majority of chances after that, but we held on to keep them from grabbing a winner and settled for the draw.
Grimsby Town 2 - 3 Manchester City
GRI - Hourihane 61', Al Kuwaykibi 88'
MCI - Cavaleiro 7', Bony 36', De Bruyne 64'
MOTM: Morris
We blew our chance here, but City were definitely the better team on the day. Cavaleiro struck early getting on the end of a deflected ball and he turned around his defender to slot it inside the near post. Bony then made us pay next after a clearance only made it to just outside the box and he hit it first time with a stunning shot into the top corner to double the lead. We then got a bit of luck drawing a foul and Hourihane stepped up to the ball and smashed an unbelievable free kick into the top left corner to pull one back. The come back was over before it started though when just minutes later De Bruyne tapped in a rebound off of a save to put the lead back to two. We got a consolation goal at the end with Morris getting down the right past his man and swinging a low ball in for Al Kuwaykibi to tap in on the back post.
Europa League Group Stage
Girondins 2 - 3 Grimsby Town
GIR - Gajic 7', Ounas 62'
GRI - Amang 24', Sacko 40', Hourihane 45'
MOTM: Hourihane
This was a huge win with us, Girondins, and Valencia all tied at the top of the group with 7 points. Getting a win was beyond important if we wanted to give ourselves a chance to advance to the knockouts. We fell behind early though with Gajic working his way into space to get the ball and fired it past our keeper into the top corner. But Amang found the equalizer after Banton played a great ball over the top and he took and even greater first touch to race in on goal and slot it past the keeper. It was Banton again pulling the strings, this time playing Sacko through on the right and his low shot found it's way into the back of the net. Banton continued his work as a maestro and played Hourihane through this time on the left and his shot went past the keeper to extend our lead even further. In the second half Ounas got some separation from his defender to get on the end of a cross and head it low under the reach of our keeper to pull one back and make us sweat out the rest of the game. We did hold on though and we set ourselves up nicely for a chance to advance with one game left in the group stages.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Hey guys I started as Swansea over the weekend to kickstart my love with career mode so it's purely for fun, no realism, no sliders etc. I'm just looking to sign future stars. So far I've signed Alban Lafont and Kasper Dolberg while a deal for Issa Diop is close. Vincent Koziello is on the radar as well.
I was also thinking of doing some form a player sponsorship to get everyone invloved again, similar to what Indi did at Parma. Would anyone be up for it?Comment

Season 4
The Mariners
December 2019
Stoke City 1 - 0 Grimsby Town
STK - Waring 26'
MOTM: Shaqiri
Stoke really asserted themselves over us and we came up lacking in this one. Stoke scored the winner early with Shaqiri crossing it in from the right and Waring rose up to head it past our keeper. On our end we missed chance after chance and our finishing was atrocious. We had a big chance at the end to save a point, but Bogle sent his shot off the post and once it was cleared the referee blew his whistle and all we could do was shake our heads.
Grimsby Town 2 - 0 Sunderland AFC
GRI - Hourihane 5', Cole 40'
MOTM: Cole
This was pretty much over in the first 5 minutes after Sanchez cut down Cole from behind as he shot and the referee showed him a straight red as a result. Hourihane then stepped up and easily slotted the penalty away to give us the lead on top of the man advantage. With the numbers advantage is was pretty straight forward after that and we added a second through Sacko sending a low ball in from the right for Cole to tap in and double the lead. Not much action happened after that and the scoreline stood at the final whistle.
Europa League Group Stage
Grimsby Town 4 - 0 Rio Ave
GRI - Cole 6', Banton 26', 60', Vieira 34'
MOTM: Banton
This is the statement we wanted to make to wrap up the group stages. Finishing on top of our group is fantastic, and a win like this really proves that we deserve it. We got on the score sheet almost immediately with Sacko's shot getting saved straight to Cole for the tap in. Banton then got on the end of Gordon's cross to head in our second and double the lead. The next came from Vieira who dribbled around the defense to get his shot off back across the goal and into the bottom corner. Banton then wrapped it up with his second on the night after Sacko played him through on the left and he beat the keeper with a low shot.
Leicester City 1 - 3 Grimsby Town
LEI - Amartey 60'
GRI - Bogle 21' (PEN), Al Kuwaykibi 27', 77'
MOTM: Al Kuwaykibi
A big win in a battle of top 3 teams. Leicester were hot on our tails in the standings and we went into their stadium and showed them up. Our first came from the penalty spot and it was Bogle that tucked it away with a well placed shot. Al Kuwaykibi then added our second just minutes later after Kelly played him through and he finished low across the goal. Amartey then pulled one back after a great run into the box set him up for a tap in. But their hopes were cut short when some great ball movement led to Al Kuwaykibi getting in one on one with the keeper and he was never going to miss that and he bagged his second on the night.
Grimsby Town 2 - 0 Crystal Palace
GRI - Sacko 34' (PEN), Osadebe 57'
MOTM: Morris
This was a match up between the top 2 and Palace barely saw a glimpse of the ball throughout the entire game. We absolutely dominated them from start to finish. Our first came by way of a penalty after Bastos took down our man in the box and Sacko was on hand to convert the penalty. The next came from Morris playing Osadebe the ball to run around the defense and he slotted it low around the keeper to double the lead. Palace couldn't manage any type of threat afterwards and we cruised to the win to stay atop the table.
Middlesbrough 2 - 1 Grimsby Town
MID - Rhodes 20', De Sart 45'
GRI - Banton 90'
MOTM: Ramirez
A really poor first half set us up with too much of a mountain to climb in the second and we dropped the points in what was a winnable game. Rhodes started it off by using patience for our defender to commit one way before turning the other and then finishing on the near post. De Sart then took advantage of us not clearing the ball and he win it inside of our box and fired it right away into the back of the net to double the lead. We picked it up in the second half, but it was too little too late as we were only able to add one at the final whistle when Al Kuwaykibi played the ball in and Banton slid in to knock it home.
Grimsby Town 2 - 3 West Brom
GRI - Kelly 4', Morris 52'
WBA - Labadie 50', Rondon 69', Wright 83'
MOTM: Kelly
This was a massive disappointment, especially after we took the lead at 2 different points in this match. Kelly started it off with Al Kuwaykibi playing him down the right and he placed his shot well into the bottom left from just inside the edge of the box. The rest of the half went well, but it didn't take them long coming out of the break to take advantage of Labdie giving too much space and the shot ended up hitting off of him and into the back of the net. Their equalizer didn't last long and Kelly played a cross in for Morris to get up and head down between the keeper's legs and in. Our lead wasn't meant to be though and Rondon scored a header of their own to equalize it once again. They pretty much had us rattled at this point and their pressure paid off late when Wright ran right past his man to get on to the end of a low cross and all he had to do was tap it in and give West Brom the win.

***
Both Vedad Ibisevic and Salomon Kalou will retire now that the season is over. We have a replacement for Kalou on his way in Admir Mehmedi, who will join the team in a couple of months, while I'm planning to get rid of the useless Ademilson and sign Davie Selke to replace Ibisevic.
Valentin Stocker and Genki Haraguchi are two players, who I want to sell as both of them haven't lived up to expectations.
Youth academy graduate Tom Lang is growing a lot and he has the potential to become one of the best players in the world. However, I don't think he is ready to be a starter yet.
Last but not least, German star defender Niklas Süle will join the team in the summer for free. He will be a very good addition to our already-strong defence.
Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!
