Re: PES 2018 Full Game Impressions

I have to say, after playing the demo and reading the reviews here I won't be purchasing this unless something changes with a patch or someone finds a way to improve things via tactics. I had a tremendous time with the Beta albeit you couldn't play the CPU so I couldn't get a feel of that. Nonetheless I was sold on a first day buy at that point.

The demo changed that for me though. It was just so wide open that the game just didn't feel like what the core foundation of PES normally is. That along with the perfect passing and no fouls is just not going to cut it for me, especially when the commentary and presentation is so boring IMO. It's just hard to play PES if the gameplay isn't up to par.

I know this is an impressions thread and I haven't played the game so I shouldn't say much, but I'm really disappointed. I was so excited for this game and it was all for not. Hopefully a patch will fix some of these things. I love supporting a second game but I won't do it if it's not up to the standards we expect.

One question I do want to ask, is online fun? I'm not an online player but I had a really good time with that on the beta so maybe when this is knocked down in price it's worth a buy to play that part of the game.

Submitted a request for a refund from Steam. Logged into Steam, it shows my gameplay time right at 2 hours but the refund request page shows my gameplay time at 3 hours. Have to wait now to see if they accept the refund request.

Yes online is fun actually it might just be my preferred way to play this year which is not ever the usual for me. Playing online and offline almost feels like night and day at times.

Makes me sad that it seems like there is little silver lining for single players this year. I spent 2008 COD type hours on ML in 2017 --- I'll miss that.

However, my online experience so far has been excellent and I'm looking forward to spending the year taking on everyone as Spurs and trying to go as far as possible. That and co-op with some friends should give this came plenty of legs for me.

I was just coming here to say the same thing. I get both Fifa and PES every year and usually I play Fifa online and PES offline but that might change this year. Right now it looks like I will spend most of my time in My Club and online.

Re: PES 2018 Full Game Impressions

I do feel defeated. After a solid 2017 game, my hopes were high for 18, especially with all the positive feedback from the community events. I think it is time to question just what the community for PES is now as it is certainly leaning toward the Ultimate team/online crowd. Some like me are stuck on nostalgia and need to adjust. It was my mistake to listen and pre-order blindly as I had stopped doing that with games over the last few years, but anticipation got the best of me this time.
Granted my time was short and it is certainly bias from my negative experience with the PC version, but from the 3 hours I played, it seemed the game went backwards from the demo version slightly. Just way too much space given by the AI with the sidelines open to exploit at will and even defenders running away from their marks at times. Pass accuracy is just 90%+ by cpu and ping pong at times. Defenders in the box go braindead when balls are crossed and there is still a small delay in switching players. Not even going to mention fouls and ref logic......
I have to wonder if much of this was by design. Whatever the case, I will still send my feedback in to the PES team and hope others will as well. Luckily I got a refund for it. I had taken the week off expecting to be playing this, but now I sit playing the FIFA demo and one I had written off completely before this happened. Maybe silver lining as it looks promising and will certainly be less work on me to get my MLS fix, but I am not going to leap again till I try the full game on Origin Access. I have no loyalty to either series as I switch from time to time and can certainly sit a year out if neither fill the void.

I wish I could sit out a year but I can't since Soccer is my favorite sport. The last few years I have ended up getting both games and playing which ever one I feel is better.

I'm just glad I was able to get a refund from Steam. Looking at many of the positive reviews on Steam is laughable. No mention of how the gameplay in the midfield is total trash and so many comments on how graphics look sweet with no mention of gameplay. Konami must be laughing.

I just wish FIFA were available on Steam because I'm not totally sold on it either.

Re: PES 2018 Full Game Impressions

Well, let me take a shot at this as a person who does not play online and plays on the PS4.

I played much more of the FIFA demo than I did of the PES demo because I just enjoyed it more.

I was certain I would not buy PES this year but I read a review on the site God is a geek so I figured I would give it a try. Basically, I was just ready to buy a new game anyway

I've played about seven games so far three of them coming in the form of a World Cup Tournament where I couldn't even get out of my own group. I play on professional, If That Matters to anybody.

I absolutely love this game. I find it so much better than last year's version and I love the fact that the CPU players make mistakes, sometimes make bad decisions, and cannot necessarily dribble circles around you even if they are a superstar.

I play as England (until I get a good us option file of course) and I faced Brazil in my third group match of the World Cup Tournament. I needed a win but the best I could do is come out with a 2-2 draw and so I was bounced out. But that's not the story because it's kind of irrelevant.

The story is that Brazil's stars did play like stars but also made mistakes which I love to see, and that included errant passes. I paid a lot of attention to Neymar because I wanted to see if he would dribble past my guys on every possession and while he was phenomenal there were four or five occasions where I was able to dispossess him with Cahill who is a very good Center back.

I am seeing from the CPU about two fouls per game and that is indeed a disappointment. I think once I get better at dribbling and making special moves I will be able to draw maybe two or three more fouls per game. Of course, I could be wrong about that but I've seen a few instances where turning my player in a different direction at the very last minute has bought me a foul.

Of course I can't comment on what FIFA will offer. I did love their demo and did not like the PES demo..

But, I could not be happier with this game outside of the fouls issue.

There are many things I still need to determine. I want to know if the CPU changes tactics and changes formation and I haven't looked into that yet. And I also want to see if man-marking works.

One thing I will tell you though, is that the CPU will definitely shoot from outside the box. I was playing against Barcelona and Bousquets hit a screamer right over the bar and he was literally outside the box at the top of the circle

This is sad times for PES if this is the case lol. Servers aren't their strong suit, and in due time you will get a ton of the usual competitive online players who will spam whatever exploits in the game improve their win/loss.

I've been enjoying it so far. Granted I haven't played in a few years so everything is seemingly new to me, but I think it plays pretty well. And this comes from a couple of days of playing the FIFA 18 demo as well. IMO both games have serious problems with passing accuracy.

I think PES will improve if we can get some option files that better mirror teams and how they play. I have come across CPU play where they press and close down in the midfield, but that seems to not be the norm. I've also seen the evo-web review where the reviewer shows how tepid the backs are in closing down on the wings. It can be pretty bad at times.

On the bright side. I came home and the PC online is fixed! And I did the myClub spins for the preorder and I scored pretty well. Mostly gold ball guys who aren't big name but solid, BUT - my last two spins: Obama-yang (Thats how *I* spell it) and Messi. SCORE?

I'm especially excited about Obama-yang because when he scores I can say "Thanks Obama-Yang!"

This is a key part of it. You will draw the majority of the fouls against you by making a move and forcing the CPU to mistime the tackle. It's still not enough, tho.

There's a good youtube guy I found last week named "PESEP" who does some decent video explaining PES, and if you search you'll see he has one for 17 where he talks about the real usable tricks and feints that most players can do. I highly recommend it.

I should note I was playing on manual shooting and PA1 and I have tweaked both teams tactics, 20 min match. Oh and to answer your question slthree, the CPU does man mark and change tactics I have seen this a few times.

Konami was very sneaky this year not showing the % of passes completed knowing that no one is going to do the math lol.

While Option Files get sorted out and Konami looks into some of the issues I've been enjoying Co-Op a lot. Yeah you run across the occasional stacked MyClub team but so far the connection has been solid my random teammates have been pretty fun to play with.

We need to some get some clan action going this year.

That's great to hear. I haven't experienced the CPU changing tactics or formation yet so you make me hopeful. It's been years since I've seen it.
