Re: PES 2018 Full Game Impressions

I could not stay away. I purchased again and had idea how to fix my PC issue. Apparently this is one of those games that has issues with extreme overclocks for Skylake or multi-thread chips. I lowered mine and game plays fine now with no crashing. Game still makes me mad as it is so close to being great. The lack of fouls/ref awareness is huge. No point in updating the FK system as it rarely gets used. My biggest complaint is the defense with defenders running away from their marks or just letting anyone in the box roam freely. Fix those issues and we would be in business.

I love dribbling and game speed this year and the game looks excellent on PC. Online play has also been great for 2v2. This is an A rated game playing at a C level at this point. Frustrating!

Re: PES 2018 Full Game Impressions

I finally got some time to play this whole weekend. As I've mentioned before, I haven't played any soccer game for a few years so everything is pretty new to me.

I only played two modes so far: myClub and some co-op online. I love Master League, but I'm kinda apprehensive to get into it as I've read nothing but bad things about the AI and the transfer market. I have read some that using Challenge mode seems to fix a lot of the problems, but that's unconfirmed.

myClub: I love the idea of building a team that you can play either against the CPU or online. Getting a a good scout and turning that into a good player you can use to help improve your squad is a lot of fun.

I basically spent the entire weekend trying to win the CPU Champions League, which is three games against progressively more difficult teams with the CPU playing on higher difficulties each game. After 4 times of winning the first two games only to be beaten in the final, I finally played a PSG team to a 0-0 draw. The game was full of great saves and heartbreaking balls off the post. I managed to win on PK's in a shootout that had me pumping my fist after my goalie would save to keep me in it, and then making a final save to win it. It was pretty amazing, and what can make sports gaming so much fun.

But myClub does have it's problems. For starters, the preorder bonuses given out ruin the mode IMO. Everyone has superstars on their teams already. I played someone the day after the PC launch who had almost the entire Barca team already. What's the fun in that? For me, and them? The mode is supposed to be about building up your club, but when you are just given star players right away and then can go out and pay for the rest, then something's wrong there.

And the Auction house makes no sense. For starters, it's not really an auction, you can't take scouts you don't need and auction them off. That right there makes you wonder how the designers at Konami think. But then, add the auctions take 24 hours for opening bids, then 5 mins for a second round is just plain dumb. I know, you can place a max bid for the final round, but it's just all so clunky, it's like it was conceived by someone who had a vague notion of what an auction is because a child explained it to them.

Online Co-op: Is great. I've played a number of games and it's been overall smooth and a ton of fun. I've been lucky to have a couple good teammates so far, and it's really rewarding to build up and turn a couple good moves into a score. And it's satisfying as hell to beat the Barca/Inter/Real people who can't play their way out of a paper bag. It's definitely something I'm looking forward to playing more of, and it seems to be pretty popular. We've never had to wait more than a minute to find a game.

There's a couple modes I've looked at so far. You can use your myClub team to play, or just pick a team. The myClub seems interesting, as it chooses players from all of your teammate's teams to make up the squad. It then uses your manager and tactics, so you have to take that into consideration. But, it also burns your players contracts, so you need to be aware of that as well. On the bright side, I've read you can export your myClub team to be used in the normal Co-op mode, so that could be interesting as well.

Overall, I'm enjoying PES 18 so far. Sure, it's got the glaring problems that others have mentioned, but I'm not sure they are nearly as bad as being made out. Take the midfield space. Yeah, the AI gives too much space, but I've also played many games where they simply don't. The PSG final I mention above, they closed me down all over the field to point that I was forced to pass the ball around the back to find spaces. And then those spaces quickly closed down. I can only guess right now what causes teams to do this. It might be they are setup to press, or it might be a Fluid Formation setting, I can't say. But I do know it's there and can see the midfield space being something that's possible to improve.

It really does feel that way. I really hope Konami is listening and finds a way to patch up some of the glaring issues with the game. Because it just feels like there's something really great there waiting to come out.

Re: PES 2018 Full Game Impressions

Been playing BAL the last few days and something about it has been bothering me a great deal. I'm playing as an RWF and whenever I get the ball, I notice that I'm immediately closed down by a central player and not the opposition wide player. I've also noticed my teammate AI does the same; my central players constantly closing players down out wide.

The consequence of this is absolutely no central cover and space that allows players to make one pass right to the striker which only leads to more end to end football.

I'm curious if this is something that can be remedied with the ingame tactics.

As far as BAL is concerned, I'm a place where I feel like professional is too easy (my AI teammates are dominant while the opposition AI is toothless much of the time) and top player is too hard (teammate AI is too inept defensively to deal with the better opposition AI).

Grab a video of you can.

BAL used to be my favorite mode until they stopped caring about it. I always played on Superstar or Top Player just so my AI teammates played better.

Passing's versatility allows you to produce some beautiful football: play with Barcelona and you can actually play like Barcelona--but it also means you can lump it to the big man up top or play it wide and get crosses in if a particular match or situation demands it.

The Champions League is licensed, but the magic of reaching it with your favorite team is killed if, rather than playing as Manchester United, you're actually controlling Man Red--playing in black.

What reason would they both need to close me down? Especially when the LB isn't out of position.

Here's 2 clips from a friendly against France. I'm playing RMF.

In this first clip, you see both Kante and Pogba closing me down out on the right wing. The LB Digne isn't even looking in my direction. Look how much space it leaves for my closest teammate, Alli, could've run into.

In this clip, it's only Kante closing me down. Even after I've gotten past Kante and I'm sprinting in the direction of the LB Digne, he makes no attempt to engage me. In fact he runs away from me. Initially I thought maybe the LB was apprehensive given my RB Walker's overlapping run, but as you can see he's not following Walker. He's following the CF Kane.

I wonder if it has to do with peripheral vision of the players being narrow because it kind of seems that way. Pogba and Kante don't seem to "see" eachother or Kurzawa . Personally, I haven't noticed stuff like that in my game so I can't say for sure if its happened to me or not . The first clip seems more likely to happen in a real game than the second one, I can't understand why Kurzawa would track into the box and not stand his ground and allowing the centre back to cover the striker

Good clips, much easier for me to understand when I see the videos. Yeah it's just odd defending and at times it seems like defenders run to spots instead of reacting to the situation at hand. In that first clip Kurzawa would almost always step up. The LCB (can't remember who it was) has Kane's run covered. Either Baka or Kante would close down from the side using the touchline as another defender and one would hang back cutting off the release option. Just poor defending by the AI.

I think if you go back and look at replays you'll see a lot of this stuff but sometimes the action is so frantic and fast that it goes without notice.

I'm enjoying the game, but there are some frustrating things that keep happening. I don't know how frequently they patch their games, but I'm hoping they can sort out...

Player changing. Biggest issue. Fifa is so much smoother.

One touch passing. Sometimes they just won't pass the ball or take an extra touch for no reason.

Defenders seem a little stuck in the mud sometimes. Not sure if it's just how used to fifa I am or it's a legit issue.
