Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Really enjoyed my time with the National Team, so I decided to apply for Ivory Coast and got the job. I'm in year 2017 so WC next year if I qualify

I got Palermo in the first knockout round in the Europa League, never heard of them so there's that. 5th or 6th year is when I get start to get bored in sport games, but it hasn't happened with this game. Maybe it's cause I have never finished 1st or 2nd, but this game is addicting. Probably going to spend all my summer playing this game

Well, lost my first leg 4-0.

So in the Online Save, Lyon prepped for their annual destruction of nomar by buying Nani, after setting up a transfer for Suarez a month before the window opened.

      Poor nomar.

Any tips on how to speed up the game besides computer maintenance?

Do you mean processing time when advancing days or during the actual match?

Both. Im thinking faster matches and no highlights would help.

My laptop has 2.5 gigs of ram and only a 1.87 ghz processor.

You're fine on the RAM. I'm assuming you're past Windows XP on this laptop, so recommended processing speed is 2.0 ghz - that's where you're running into your speed issues. Loading less leagues and a smaller database will help in the day-to-day processing. Going with 2d or commentary only mode and less highlights will help in match.

I've also read that FM does a lot of direct accessing of the HDD as opposed to using RAM, so if your HDD is slow, that can be a bottleneck. Do you defrag regularly?

Cleaned the disk and went to defrag and said it wasn't necessary. I got vista. I've had it since the fall of '08.

Up and running with Arsenal. Signing young English players. Got muamba for 6.5 million. Was going to sign jagielka until he wanted 205k per week.

Not gonna go into too too much detail here, but here's how my FM save is going.

I started with Almeria in the Spanish second division. I lost in the playoff the first year (even after a 7-0 aggregate win in the first round of the playoff!) but was able to gain promotion the second season after winning the league. I'm currently in the 2020/21 season. My team is mostly regens, with the only real players left on the roster being Spanish internationals Michel (naturalized in ~2018 or so), Gerard Deulofeu, and Kiko Femenia, and German national team starting GK and Almeria captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen. My star Argentinian AMC/R has missed pretty much the past season and a half, but he's still valued at around $26M. Spurs plucked my French AMC stud for $33M this past August, but my team has managed to stay afloat. I have 5 players valued over $20M and 3 CBs valued over $15M (perhaps a 3-6-1 is going to have to be created soon...). I run a 4-5-1 with 2 CDMs, an AMC, and two advanced wingers. I'm sitting in 3rd at the moment in La Liga and am in the first knockout round of the UCL matched up against Chelsea. I've yet to win the league, but have won the Copa del Rey on two occasions. Barring any major injuries, I think I'm going to make a run at the league this season, now that Barca is consistently finishing in 4th-5th.

Thought I'd post some screens. Sorry for the low-res screenshots...on my laptop not desktop.

EDIT: I haven't spent more than $11M USD on a player and that was for Benedini who I'd had on loan from Liverpool and thought he was gonna be a beast. He's turned out solid in his first season after the loan.

Next Tuesday's the big day: Arsenal vs. Lyon. I'll make sure to have plenty of alcohol handy in case both legs go the way they always do.

Absolutely falling apart without my injured $30M Brazilian ST. I've lost three of four in the league and am about to head to Stamford Bridge needing to overcome a 1-0 deficit in the UCL first knockout round. I've managed to stay afloat in the league, hovering at fourth at the moment, but easily could drop to sixth if other results don't go my way midweek. At least making it to the Finals in the Copa del Rey is a saving grace; I'm set to face Malaga for the third time in the Finals(!) during my tenure in charge.

                          EDIT:
Results held. Through 26 games, I'm sitting in 4th, but only 3 points separate me and 8th place (Sevilla, Valencia, Barca, At. Madrid in that order are behind me). I'm 7 points behind 3rd place Real Madrid. League order goes: Malaga (1), Betis (2), Real Madrid (3), Almeria (4). Wow.

Finished up what might be my final turn at managing a national team, as my France team was eliminated in the semis to Italy.

My team could never overcome losing my top 2 strikers just before the tournament.

Lost the opener to Slovakia 2-0. Beat Hungary 2-0. Drew the Dutch at 1. Thought I had been eliminated but luckily I forgot about the expansion of the tourney and got in on the best 3rd place team.

Beat the dutch 4-2 in 2nd round. Beat Russia 1-0 in quarters before losing to Italy.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.
