I know playing as a lower league side, you're not gonna get the same benefits as a big club. When a player complains, I ask what he wants and see what it takes to keep him. Sometimes, they'll ask for more money or that we qualify for promotion or a continental comp. If the player is one I want to keep, I'll make those promises. If not, tell em that you need to wait until an offer matches the valuation. Usually, they'll accept that and if no offer comes in, player will drop transfer request
Perceptor's suggestions are great, but just be careful not to promise something you know you can't deliver. Because breaking promises can affect the entire squad and turn them against you. So if a player says he wants to play in the next league up and you think you can achieve promotion, go ahead and make that promise. But if the player wants European football and you're in the Championship, avoid that promise. Unless you're Perceptor and your fairy tale Boro side just won the Capital One Cup.

Pfff, who needs sleep. There is football managing to be done. I don't care what time I work tomorrow. I just need to do this one extra thing.

Totally forgot to add that in Nomar. Make promises you know you can keep lol.

Are online leagues popular in FM? I come from OOTP where online leagues are everywhere but I imagine it would be a lot harder to do a FM league.

This is cool, my u18 manager, who also played 114 games for me became a manager. My Reserves manager also became a manager of lower league team before the season started, so my coaching tree is growing

Yes, because you all have to be online at the same time. It's like playing your own save except there's other people hitting 'Continue' and waiting. Me, rsnomar, Bezzey, and justblaze had one that got through about 4 seasons a few versions back. We'd play two nights a week. It was a minor miracle that we got through that many seasons. Trying to get everyone on at the same time is tough. It's a commitment.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Well, for the first time in the last 5 seasons, someone other than Chelsea has won the title.

Unfortunately, that team is not us.

United stumbled a couple times in the last 5, and we beat Liverpool at Anfield 1-0 with a Harry Kane 89th minute goal, in the penultimate game of the season. It felt like FM was allowing to have a magical season. But oh, FM giveth and FM taketh away.

We were sitting in first place, welcoming 2nd place Manchester United on the final day of the season. We were two points clear, so all we needed was a draw. A Vertonghen penalty put United up 1-0 early in the game, and before halftime Odegaard had a brilliant chance for us, he dribbled around a defender and placed a shot that hit the inside of the far post, it walked the goal line but did not go in. Then 3 minutes later, United score again.

                  We lost 2-0.

Pretty disappointing to not come away with the title, but there's a lot to be proud of after this season, and a lot to look forward to. Dele Alli and Martin Odegaard were fantastic, and they're both still so young. Kane had 21 EPL goals (after missing 6 weeks), was 2nd in the league in goals/minute, and he is still only 25.

Also a couple very exciting U21 prospects are away on loan, a couple of them will be ready to start breaking into my senior squad this upcoming season, I think. Looking forward to evaluating them over the summer and trying them out in some friendlies to see how they do.

I'm particularly proud of my team's defensive structure, so it was nice that we were the best defensive side in the league; 28 goals allowed in 38 matches.

In my post-season team meeting I told the players to enjoy their vacation and come back motivated because we're going to win the title next season. Most of them reacted positively but a few reacted negatively, saying "Are you sure? I think that's a little ambitious" ... Uh, yeah, I think we can win it. We came 2 goals away from winning it this year... lol

Yeah, it was a blast to play, but the time commitment was tough. Haggling with a real person over transfer fees was awesome, as was criticizing ImTellinTim at every opportunity in the press. But online saves will continue to be tough until there is a way to negate the amount of time you have to sit there waiting for everyone else to press continue (and the amount of time they have to sit there waiting for you).

It can be quite fun playing a lower league team:

It can also be quite fun knocking the number one team in the league out of a cup:

Nah, the real problem is when you're at work, and you're in a meeting and you start sketching out tactics during a meeting, and you have a breakthrough, smile to yourself, then participate in the meeting by calling your boss your Assistant Manager's name or your young starlets name.

Going for the domestic treble is alive and well:

Kalas is proving very valuable for me. I'm considering signing him long term in the summer.

                                Semi Final draw:

A winnable draw against Villa even though it's away, but if we can reach the final, anything can happen!

With the CoC one and the Championship all but sewn up, this would be the most epic way to cap off a dream season for me on any FM game
