Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Big changes on the horizon in my Journeyman save!

Finished my 6th full season at Platanias in Greece.

Finished 3rd... Again.... As you can see, I actually spent most of the 1st half of the season in the title hunt, but then Olympiacos did Oymipiacos things and brought in reinforcements. They basically didn't lose for the second half of the year.

My Europa League campaign was pretty good this year! Got out of the group and won our first knockout round against Zenit! This was the first time I've gotten out of the group stage, so I was thrilled to win our first knockout round.

This season kind of made me come to a realization. I was really feeling good about my chances in the league, but Olympiacos (and PAOK, to some extent) having so much more spending power than me was discouraging. I just didn't feel like I had the resources to topple that Goliath. Our stadium was 3,500 capacity, so not too much room for growth.

I decided to actively start looking around for new jobs.

While I was doing this, I made a few transfer moves that I think were pretty shrewd. It was actually a really tough decision to look elsewhere. I had bought a couple new players who I thought would really improve the team, but at the end of the day, I think I need to move on.

At this point, I was looking for a job in one of the major nations (other than England, I am staying out of England for this save), and there was a few openings in Germany, Italy, and France that I applied for.

After a few interviews, I ended up at....

    U.C. Sampdoria!

Last season, Sampdoria finished 16th in Serie A, 5 points clear of relegation. There is clearly some work to do here, but the club has been in Serie A since 2012, and finished 8th just two seasons ago, so there is a solid foundation here. The training and youth facilities are also MUCH better than I had at Platanias.

I'm pretty proud of my time at Platanias, I took over in 2020, and feel like I have them established in the upper echelon of Greek teams. I was in the group stage of the Europa League 3 of the 5 (full) seasons I was there, which brought a lot of money into the club. And I feel like the roster I'm leaving is the best that I've ever had there. I really hope they're able to keep that success rolling.

Here is my career thus far:

Really looking forward to a new challenge in Italy. I've never managed there before, and it's a great opportunity to work my way up from nothing, to manage in one of the best leagues in the world!

Ohhh, just discovered an interesting wrinkle in my move to Sampdoria.

I actually have rivals now, which is fun.

Sampdoria and Genoa share a stadium, and are fierce rivals. I completely forgot that Genoa is where I sold my best player from Platanias. He was like 8 goals away from being the all time leading scorer in Platanias history, and was/is a club icon.

He forced his way out; he was going into the last year of his deal and refused to sign a new one. Really left a sour taste in my mouth that I had to offload him for about half of what he was worth.

And now I get to play him in the Della Lanterna Derby. I'll be looking to shut him down out of spite.

You know, I was going to quit my Amiens save, but then I had a tycoon takeover (my first ever).

Wiped out all my stadium expansion debt, invested $10M in facilities, and $100M in the first team.

Maybe I'll give it one more run at PSG.

Right lads, I'm looking for you to get stuck in on this guy, tackle him hard, press him all game, and if your studs come up, I'll fine you one weeks wages, and buy you dinner.

I’m in year 2 of my career...

Started at tranmere, that went poorly lol. I actually got fired and I was 8th in the league. Took over at Salford and have them in the battle for automatic promotion. We currently are on a 15 game unbeaten run (14 wins 1 cup draw). And 17 of 18 games unbeaten. Currently we sit 1st in the league, with 64 points (20-4-5 record). It’s an interesting team... not much squad depth, but a lot of quality. Injuries have been a big obstacle this season at Salford but luckily have managed to battle through them. The biggest issue is running the club and making profit. That’s just not been possible for us lol.

Clubs at that level generally aren't making a profit, so don't worry too much about that right now as long as you aren't overspending on wages.

<del>So I guess this is what happens when you're managing in a lower lower lower league and forgot to add "add players to playable teams" and you're the only team in the league with real players.</del> My tactic is the best, will get back to back to back promotions to Bundesliga

So I just helped promote a semi-pro team to the top level of Finnish football.

I haven't played in about two weeks. Been playing State of Decay 2 and Detroit Become Human. And a very limited amount of FIFA. But I hear FM calling me again. I think its time to start a new save.

I've never started a save with the intention of taking over a top flight club and staying with them, turning them into a dynasty. But I'm doing that now.

Loaded England, Spain, German, Italy and France. Holidayed until December, and this gem of a job was open.

Perfect job for me. Maybe a little easy to turn them into a dynasty, but I'll have fun at least.

I think to make this harder, I'm only going to sign players my scouts bring me. I wont manually scout anyone.

I don't think our current best 11 players is very balanced.

Finally lost my 1st league game, it took 79 games.

Both of my losses were in a cup competition to VSG Altglienicke. who I actually beat in the league this year.

Edit: and now my most painful loss

Pretty good finish for a club who was in 13th when I took over after 16 games. So many of our wins were come from behinds late in the game. We won 10 games out of the last 13 where we were down at the half.

Final day of the season us, Schalke and Leverkusen were on 60 points. Leipzig was on 59. We played and beat Schalke 2-1 at home. Huge game and win on the last day of the season.

Now I'm looking forward to rebuilding the squad for next season. I rarely play with big clubs. So looking at a transfer budget of 123M is crazy to me. Also half my team is wanted by PSG and Man U. So the summer might be a little nuts.

This has been the worst summer I've ever been through in FM and I'm not even out of June.

Most all my players are getting pissed because I'm rejecting bids. Making real issues in the locker room. Everyone opposes me now because I tried to hang on to Pulisic and the Greek defender Papas. Now I'm being low balled for everyone. And it keeps getting worse and worse. And everyone I try to sign, the club either asks for insane amounts of money because they know we have it, or the player demands insane wages the club wont let me offer them.

I really hate playing with big clubs.

Survey I got from SI about Football Manager/Video Gaming.

I never realized how much of this game I enjoy and why I spend an inordinate amount of time playing it.

In my 2018/19 season with Forest. Finished 10th last year...didn't have much of a transfer budget but I was able to get Borthwick-Jackson on loan from United, Cullen from West Ham, and Majetschak from Leipzig. Currently sitting in 1st on goal differential in the league, made a run to the League Cup quarterfinal, and am in a 5th round replay with Brighton. The winner gets Leeds or Barnsley in the quarterfinal, so I have a very real chance of making the semis, which is ridiculous.
