Still playing with FM08 (Old-school lol)

After 3 seasons with Benfica, where I won the League 3 times in a Row, and after winning the UEFA Cup, Man U, Real and Lyon came asking me to join. So I obviously joined Lyon. Benzema is stille here, which is awesome, and i'm trying to sign a coiple of defenders to make a run at the CL

Screw this game. I have one of the best teams in League 1 and the best I can do are draws and losses. Something is wrong with this POS game.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Patience is the key. I know the feeling...a couple of suggestions:

        1. Did you sign a ton of players? If so, they need time to gel and won't be at their best right away

        2. During the game, check your assistant manager feedback. They offer some tips. if they're saying stuff like Adebayor looked overconfident, you should adjust your team talks accordingly

        3. Check out the official forums. Go to the "good team and player guide" section. Find the thread of the team you play as and go there. Those threads are a great starting point for tactics, personnel, and stuff like that.

        4. Tactics, tactics, tactics....find out what's working and what's not. Don't constantly alter tactics. Stick to a style and tinker with it.

        5. Player Morale - typically, before a season, I set friendlies against crap teams...reason? I know I'll score a ton of goals and as a result, morale goes up. A team with good morale will win more often

        Hope these help

I didn't bring in many new first team guys, most of the people I got were youth prospects...and it's halfway through the season anyway, so they should've gelled by now. I only have 2 different tactics that I use, and neither work...they shouldn't really matter THAT much when Leeds is one of the top teams in League 1 by far.

I just don't get why they charge $40 for the game and don't even give you a chance to succeed.

I don't mean to be harsh, but it isn't the game's fault. If anything, for a bunch of people, this game is too easy. Just practice. Get used to the game. Read TT&F and then manage your team accordingly.

JJ- Two things I haven't seen mentioned.

              1. Training Schedules.
              2. Coaches.

To me these two things are always the first thing I set right when I start a save.

The right training and coaches can turn a team from a midtable squad to a top 4 side.

For training schedules, I always use Tugs.

For Coaches- depending on your budget and board limits, I try to get a coach who only specializes in 1 or 2 areas only.(One coach who's great a defending and one is great at attacking, instead of 2 that average at each).
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

So start a new game and see what happens

Miget's right - training and coaches are huge in this game.

So JJ, do this before you start:

                  1. Go to the football manager official forums. There's tons of info for you there to learn about the game

                  2. When you start the game, fire all your crappy coaches, scouts, and search for good ones. Again, the official forums have the necessary info to get you started

                  3. Download Tug's Training 2010 from the official forums. It's the only training you'll ever need

                    So did Brian Clough.

Turn that frown upside down and start a Nottingham Forrest save.

Just like real life, you will have ups and downs. I am going with same save, in 2014 currently.

                      Started in JAN. 2009 MLS:
Started in MLS with Sounders - 2 years - playoffs both years, no cups.
                      Argentina - Boca - 2 years - 3 league titles - 2 opening stages, 1 closing. 3 other cup wins.
EPL-Chelsea - 1st first year, got knocked out of FA cup, Europa League, and Carling cups. Finished year 6th on table. Was in top 2 for 1st half of season, and then went down hill from there. Picked up Chile National Team job at end of 2013, currently in group stage of World Cup 2014. 1st match 1-1 tie with Norway, got Ivory Coast and France next, tough group.

My point, this game is like real life, you have your ups and downs. To me it's a blast having challenges off and on in my career. side note, Team USA won first 2 group matches and has already qualified to get out of group play. pretty cool.
