Never made it to the Olympics. After Spain won the Euros, Pep resigned and Spain offered me the job a week before Olympics started. Took the job and now running Spain and Real. Should be an interesting season.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Reached the month of March and I might be in trouble for league.
5 points back of Arsenal.
Also around the FIFA CLUB WC, I decided to switch my formation that I had for over 20 seasons. We give up more goals, but we score way more as well.
I needed the change so I could get my best players out there. I have 3 world class CB that I hated to always rotate in and outComment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Finished my 3rd year in the BPL, 6th overall, with Millwall.
5th: 63pts 17W/12D/9L +16 GD
1st thru 4th was Man U, Ars, Spurs, Man C. Man city was 20pts ahead so the top 4 pretty much ran away with it.
We won the FA Cup, 2nd year in a row, 1-0 over Spurs, so we're back in the Europa League.
Won the Community Shield 2-0 over Man U to start the new season.
I brought in some youth, 18 yro Jesper Larsen (CM) 8.75M fee, 19 yro Fernando Jose (WB) 2.9M fee, and 23 yro Alex Chamberlain (W) 2.8M fee. I had been scouting the Ox for the past two years as he's been transfer and loan listed.
Before the season started Arsenal offered the Ox for 3.5M and I countered for 2.5M. Settled for 2.8M. Well my first game was against Arsenal at the Emirates. My side included Jese (1.3M fee 3rd yr), Carl Jenkinson (2.0M fee 4th yr) and of course the Ox. All ex-Gunners.
Jese and Carl started with the Ox on the bench. In the 20', Neymar scored for the Gunners so I'm thinking it could be a long day. It stayed 1-0 until half but Jenkinson got injured so I substituted him at half. In the 52' Coulibaly scored on a brillant pass from Jese to draw us even. I brought the Ox on in the 75'. We went into extra time tied and in the 93' the Ox put in a brillant cross that found Coulibaly for his 2nd and game winning goal!
The ex-Gunners came back to haunt Mourinho, who's been in charge for 13 months.Last edited by jesmith29; 08-30-2012, 01:23 AM.'Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I'm in the 2nd year of my tenure with Racing de Santander. First year was a success as we finished 7th in the league, clinching a spot in the Europa League.
Highlights from last year included winning at the Mestalla and securing a draw with Valencia in the home fixture. We also took a point from Real Madrid in a 1-1 draw at a stadium but lost 2-1 at the Bernabue on a late goal from Kaka. My keeper ran out of the box to clear a through ball, but instead of waiting for the ball to get in the box to headed it back in play right to Kaka. We lost the games against Barcelona with a combined score of 11-2.
The new season has kicked off and we're sitting pretty in the 8th spot with 7 points out 12.
Spoiler
We drew FC Bayern, Young Boys, and Sint-Truiden in the Europa League.
Spoiler
EDIT: ... five league games later I am canned.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
In my 7th season with Millwall and the board expand the Den for the 2nd time. It was originally at 19,750 (I believe) and now can seat 39,726.
In my 3rd year in the EPL, we currently sit in 6th with 19pts and a record of 5W 4D 1L. Scored 13, conceeded 4, for +9.
I sent S. Coulibaly on loan last season, he played like crap the season before, and it apparently helped his attitude. He's scored 6 in the EPL and 7 in all compititions.
My transfer of the Ox has paid dividends, as he has 6 asst's.
We are still in the League, FA, and Europa cups.'Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.'-Bill ShanklyComment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Finally got around to moving along a bit in my Liverpool save. I had the first game of the knock stage against Zenit. Went 3-0 Up at home before they clawed it back to 3-2. Still happy to have that going into the second leg though.
Also have the Carling Cup Final against Norwich and a 5th Round FA Cup against West Ham before that second leg. It's a busy February/March for my Reds.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Closing in on my second year as Real manager... I held the 1st spot all year (currently in February), had a 5 point advantage over Barca after a 3-1 victory, dropped a point behind after a 5-5 tie against Getafe and a 2-0 loss to Valencia. That 5-5 tie was a total morale killer, especially since we were up 4-1 at one point. Fortunately we finally bounced back and beat Granada 5-2 and Barca lost and now back to 2 points up.
On the CL side of things got leg 2 against Bayern. First game was 0-0 in Munich so this will be difficult. Of course though I win the group and get the most difficult team though.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Lyon has now failed to qualify for the CL 2 seasons in a row in my career save (I'm still at RM). The curse is dead and never returning. Although I did draw them in my CL group in the online save. But that was probably the FM Gods toying with me one last time.Comment

Beat West Ham 2-0 in 5th round of the FA Cup to advance. Who do I draw you ask? The only other Premier side left Chelsea.
Fielded a young squad midweek against 2nd placed United in the league and lost 0-2. Have the Carling Cup final this weekend and since I'm sitting in 5th think its best to concentrate on silverware and the Champions league knockout games coming up.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Well I played the Carling Cup Final. I was Happy With The result:
I couldn't believe it went that way. My boys played inspired. The Board said they were happy, but not to get too carried away as there are much bigger competitions to win. I won the FA Cup last year, the Carling Cup this year, and I qualified for the Champions League and made it through group stages and am still in the knockout stages. I have a feeling like my board will never be happy.Comment
