My exhausted squad just got a massive result in the midst of this scheduling bug. Liverpool dominated possession, but their chances were for the most part long range and right at SZCZ:

Well, I go from "we might not retain him" in December to Copa del Rey champions in May! We're also on a 15 game unbeaten streak headed into the final three games and fighting for potential CL qualification.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
FM never ceases to amaze me. In a save with Almeria and I put a rotated squad in against Barcelona expecting defeat and get a 2-1 win. I recently beat Real Madrid as well. Granada is in 1st place as of now. Currently sitting mid table in January hoping I can make a push for an Europa League spot.
Also, if you're controlling a non English team with EU spots open or want to grab some youth players, I would highly recommend scouting the US heavily. I've found a lot of gems in the American youth academies and brought in Jamison Olave & Jhon Kennedy Hurtado on free transfers to strengthen my backline along with Rosales, his crossing is wonderful if you have a quality target man. My U19 squad which is pretty much all MLS/US academy players is completely dominating as well with a few guys that look like they will transition to senior squad in due time.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Got all set up with 14 tonight. Started with Hearts. For those unfamiliar, they start in administration and a -15 hole. Management is selling off and loaning players, and there is nothing I can do about it. This ought to be fun. After drawing 1-1 in our first match, we lost at home 0-1 to our local hated rivals, Hibernian. Gonna be a looonnnnnggg season.
EDIT: Just checking out Liverpool. Suarez FK attribute is only 14? That's too low.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 11-12-2013, 01:39 AM.Comment

This is a minor improvement, but I'm really loving the fact that the myriad of match info screens I have open become transparent when the action moves beneath them in the 3D match engine. It makes it much easier to watch the action without feeling like too much is blocked.Comment

Got a favorable quarterfinal draw, so I should be through to the semis no problem. Brighton are in the relegation zone.
Naturally if I lose people can point back to this post for me having been too arrogant.Attached FilesLast edited by rsnomar05; 11-14-2013, 03:20 AM.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
I just got hit hard with injuries. Podolski out for 5 months, Walcott out for 3 months, Mertesacker out for 2-3 months, Arteta out for 1.5 months, and my new striker signing Vietto out for 1.5 - 2 months.
To make matters worse, Giroud has gone 10 matches without scoring or netting an assist. I've warned him that I'm going to have to drop him if he doesn't improve, but his two backups (Podolski and Vietto) are both out, so that means The Greatest Striker That Ever Lived (Bendtner) might actually see meaningful minutes.
With some tough games coming up, quite a few losses might be in the cards.Comment

Edit: And then I went on a five match losing streak, leaking goals through the middle as you would expect a team to do with one fit CB and nobody of quality in the reserves. The board threatened to fire me, and they asked me to tell them why they shouldn't terminate my contract. I told them I had been wrecked by injuries, hoping they would be sympathetic. Nope, they told me injuries were a part of football and my excuse wasn't good enough. Apparently having 5 starters and some backups out injured for an average of 2 months a pop isn't unusual enough. I would love to hear the board's definition of extenuating circumstances.
Anyway, I had to promise them I'd win the next match, and they informed me if I didn't I was canned. I am now managing for my life.Last edited by rsnomar05; 11-15-2013, 07:23 AM.Comment

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
This is ridiculous. After being told I had to win my next match or be fired, I called a team meeting, successfully motivated 3 players (woo-hoo!) and then went on a four match winning streak. Feeling like I was finally turning a corner, I lost Ozil and Cazorla in the same match to month long injuries. My squad must be made of glass.
On a more positive note, I finished second in my CL group, so at least I'm in the knockout stages. Problem is, I'm sitting 8th in the league with 7 starters injured and may need to win the CL if I'm going to play in it next year. Not the first season at Arsenal I was hoping for.
Edit: And to make matters worse, I just drew Chelsea in the FA Cup 3rd Round instead of the myriad of CH and L1 teams. FM is just trolling me right now.Last edited by rsnomar05; 11-17-2013, 03:46 AM.Comment

I got drawn in a Champions League group with Inter, Bayern and Zenit. FML. I managed a 3-1 home win vs Zenit. If I can beat one of the two giants at home, and take two away draws, I'll be happy.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
So I think to myself, Self, The Supercopa de Espana isn't that important, and the two matches against a clearly better Real Madrid are only days apart from La Liga matches vs Zaragoza and At. Madrid. What I'm just going to do is rest my starters, I need league points, not semi-meaningless trophies, it'd be nice but I want consistency in the league.
WELP.
They're only injury before the match was Luka Modric, Higuain got injured during the match.
I never expected a 3-0 victory from my reserve squad.
And now going to Bernabeu I figured I was due for a heavy loss, I was hoping for 1 goal, just to make it a mountain for Madrid to climb(though with their quality, it'd not be a difficult mountain) Alas, my goal was never meant to be...
Nor was their comeback, quite spectacular for a team of 9 reserves each time (Gunnarson/Ronnow in game 1, Luna/Ronnow in game 2 were the starters) Absolutely shocking to me.Last edited by Suntan Superman; 11-17-2013, 10:33 AM.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***
Another season another title, this time very comfortably, winning 19 out of 22 games and drawing the other 3. I can't see me leaving Hong Kong in the near future. I've been applying for jobs and only got one interview in the Scottish Championship so I still have hope.
On another note, there's actually some pretty handy youngsters coming through the youth system at Kitchee. For example, I gave a 14 year old GK his debut, not just out of age but he's better than my starting GK! I'd be shocked if he isn't in the Hong Kong squad by his 19th birthday, only the current starter for the National Team is better.Comment
