I love how when you go on those draw streaks, the headlines are "Tip Top Trenčín: undefeated in 10 matches!" to "Miserable Trenčín winless in 9 matches" right when you lose a game lol

What leagues do you guys load when starting an unemployed career? I'm playing on my MacBook mostly, so I can't afford to have everything loaded unfortunately or else the game will be really slow, but I want to give myself some variety. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah I got fired from Oviedo, and Celtic hired me.
His 17 goals in the CL seems crazy impressive, but you have to remember most of that is early qualifying rounds against really bad small clubs. But still. 17 CL (5 group stage goals) and 13 league goals already.

        So of course this happens...

...right before the last group stage game against Napoli, away. Where we have to win just to get third and go down to the EL. Thanks FM.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

So after selling players last season to help the books out, the goal this transfer period is not to sell anybody. We were able to accomplish that. The only notable departure was the release of striker Yannick Mamilonne. The 33-year-old had made 258 appearances for Amiens over the years and scored 88 goals in his career. Played a major role in getting us promoted to Ligue 1 the year prior, but found his playing time reduced substantially as the talent level of the squad increased. He ended up signing with Quevilly-Rouen in the fourth level of French football.

The first move of the transfer period was the signing of Metz central defender Dan-Axel Zagadou. The former PSG youth signed with Metz in 2019 and helped them get promoted to Ligue 1 in 2022. Metz was relegated last season and he was looking for a move. Was able to get him for $900k, with futures taking it up to a potential $1.3M. The 26-year-old is a very intelligent center back who should slot in nicely next to Jordan Lefort.

The next move was going back to the Metz well, bringing in midfielder Pierre Proust on a season-long loan, paying Metz $135k per month for the duration of the loan. Proust is a very versatile player, who can play midfield, left back, and center back.

            Other loans brought in are...

Right back Marvin Bosman (Ajax), midfielder Giomaria Brundu (Inter), midfielder Laert Gurma (Roma), and striker Vandinho (Sao Paulo). All of these players will see significant time for me this season.

Also put those American contacts to use and snapped up 20-year-old goalkeeper Samuel MacGregor from the St. Louis Lions. Instantly becomes the #2 keeper behind Hassen and could push the Frenchman for game time.

            Champions League

We entered the competition in the Best Placed Playoff, drawn against Roma. In game one, Roma struck first, but we equalized a minute later. Overall, the match was very lackluster as both sides struggled to get shots on target, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. The trip to Rome would see us open the scoring in the fourth minute, and the 726 Amiens fans who made the trip were dreaming of Champions League glory.

That dream turned into a nightmare as Roma turned up the heat in the second half, and three unanswered goals sent us packing out of the competition. It was a disappointing end, as I really thought we had a club that could make it to the group stages. Unfortunately, we got saddled with a tough draw.

That failure would see us dropped into the group stage of Europa Leauge. We were drawn into Group D with....

            Athletic Club
            Fenerbahce A.S.
            FCSB

            I'm down for this challenge.

Two things, I've changed my tactics, after many years of a fairly rigid attacking scheme at home, and a rigid defensive scheme on the road, we trained up three new tactics. I changed the training two years ago to match the tactics, and I figured it was time to implement something I had never really done before. We are now a high-intensity, full press, free-flowing attacking team. So far it's been quite the experiment. Our goals are coming from everywhere, and the ever-changing back line based on the other team has proven super effective.

We've come close a few times to a draw, but managed a goal in the waning minutes.

The second thing, does anyone else feel a bit of pride when International call-ups happen? When I started at Viborg we had what amounted to basically a 1/2 an international, now between all three teams we have 25 Internationals, including 7 full Danish Internationals, 6 Danish U21 Internationals, and 3 Danish U19 Internationals.

When I was in Belarus with Dnepr Mogilev, half of the international team was from my youth academy at one point, and my starting eleven. It was a great feeling. Knowing I developed them into great talents who were all under 23. However, being in Belarus isn't the same thing as a major country. But I still felt proud. That was probably one of my all time favorite saves too. I've actually been thinking about doing a save there again in FM18.

                    Basically all of them, lol

But for your situation you either go deep in very few nations if you start at the lowest rung. Or if you want more variety, make your manager more experienced with the right licences and only load the top league in more nations.

One nation that probably gets overlooked is China. If you're playing in the higher leagues, there is a bunch of talent over there that you don't want hiding behind the scenes.

Not only that, but they will usually sell you players for around their value instead of bidding you up because they're cash broke (just like IRL!).

Not quite sure how this happened. My league form is suffering because of the extra games...but my word...including a 5-0 victory over Athletic after I heavily rotated the squad for the final group stage match.

Drew Zenit in the first round of the knockout stages.

Has anyone had success in holding possession and also scoring more than one goal a game using three at the back? Trying to really commit to three central defenders in my new Rangers save, and while my defense has been absurdly solid, I don't hold possession as much as I'd like (especially against lesser opponents), and I'm not scoring often.

I'm going to try switching to more of a 5-3-2, as it seems I really need three in the midfield to help hold possession and win the midfield battle.

                              Yes.

I took Arsenal to 3rd in the league with a 3-6-1 formation.

Tried 5-3-1-1, went well for a few games, but still can't dominate possession like I want, although I am playing as Rangers. Sadly, lost 0-3 in my first Old Firm match—yikes.

Determined to stick with a back 3/5, as I've brought in players for it. Perhaps it's time to switch back to a 5-2-3 as that might help my attack.

I don't want to work. I just want to tinker with my tactics all day. Ahhhh.
