Re: Any FM-related questions? Ask them here

Is there an easy way to 'delete' all the stuff that has been DL/added to the game (i.e. kits, badges, license fixes, etc.)?

Basically to 'start the game from scratch' without having to completely DL the game via Steam again?

    TIA gents.

Documents -> Sports Interactive -> Graphics should have about 90% of that stuff.

How many different tactics do you guys generally use? I found I was relying on pretty much only 1...

Also, how do you guys 'play'? I usually just sim between highlights--which makes it hard to 'see' how I'm doing in game. Only real feedback is from my assistant, or viewing in game stats. I have the sim going pretty quickly though--so hard to adjust on the fly.

Just curious how you guys play. Think I saw someone said they still roll in 2D (might've been footymanagertv on YT...).

        TIA!

I always setup at least two tactics. One full on attack, and one counter. Or if not a counter, a less attack minded, more defensive minded one. Usually in a similar formation to my main attacking one. But never the same formation.

I also play on 2D, I hate the 3D. It looks so goofy I can't stand it. I much prefer the dots. And I have it set to only show key moments on fast simulation.

I also do 3D, one click above normal speed with whatever highlight level is above key. Extended I believe it's called.

I tried 3D a few years ago but I'm glad I went back to the classic dots.

Alright, well here's what I've come up with. Nothing ground breaking by any means. Do you guys see any massive holes/issues with what I've set up?

I find myself enamored by trying to get those 'green circles' all the way full, regardless of my 'intent' with the tactics. I think this is a flaw of mine. So now, I've 'settled for less' and am attempting to train the players (individually) in roles that they aren't necessarily 100% suited for (albeit they are close). Is this the best approach, in you guys' opinion?

Ha, I did the same thing trying to put them only in positions where their circles were full green....now I only put them in positions where they will be effective.

It's not necessarily good to have a couple of the same position on the field, from what I've seen, because they both try to do the same thing and counteract each other.

Do you guys watch the entire games via "the dots"? It this even possible?

I just find it hard to know if what I am doing is working or not unless I see everything!

i generally have 3 tactics - my main tactic i use for the majority of games, a diff formation for if i have injury problems and need t otry something else, and then another similar to my normal tactic but slightly more defensive to try and hold on to narrow wins, or if im playing away from home

Just in case you didn't know. A ball-winning midfielder will move around the pitch more looking to win the ball than just a central midfielder on defend duty, who will stay more in position.

Just in case you had him in that role to defend against counter attacks, which could slice through that midfield if players are out of position

Don't get too enamored with filling the green circles, you need players in roles that 1. they are effective in and 2. that work together.

For instance, I use my AMR and AML with a role of Inside Forward - Support. Because they are cutting to the middle of the pitch, I need to add width to my attack. To accomplish this, I use wing backs set to attack. However, that leaves my back line exposed (I do employ a high line), so I use a DM set to halfback or as a deep lying playmaker with a defend duty to drop in between the two center backs, effectively making a back three. When my wing backs track back on defense, it really makes it a five man back line.

That's the beauty of the player roles. You may have a set formation, but then the roles can morph the default formation into something else entirely whether you are on the defense or on the attack.

I wish the player roles allowed you to remove one or two of the player-specific instructions associated with them. You can get around it by creating your own from one of the more generic roles, but it would be a lot more convenient.

First thing I do before every season is make sure I have player-specific instructions set for every player that can play in each position. Saves so much time not having to tweak every time you put a player in. Obviously, you still have to see if you want to make any slight changes when you put them in based on situation/what other players are on the pitch, but it's nice to have most of the work done.

Hopefully this isn't too stupid of a question, but how do I delete FM16 from my MAC (to free up space)?

I DL it through Steam, so I'm not sure where the file is actually located. If I just delete the Sports Interactive folder--will that do it?

Also, how big was the beta file? Anyone know?

                            Thanks guys

Just deleting the Sports Interactive folder will not delete the bulk of the memory that's being used.

To fully delete all the files, you need to go to:

                              / Users / (your username) / Library / Application Support / Steam / SteamApps / common

Then delete the Football Manager 2016 folder.
