Starting XI: Mannone, Sagna, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Coquelin, Arteta, Cazorla, Walcott, Podolski, Giroud

Subs: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Santos, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arshavin, Chamakh

Walcott gets a start. I like that.

When you press and pressure Arteta in the midfield he can't handle it. Man U tore him a new one last week and Fulham is killing him again. You can argue if you want, but DM is a huge liability for this team.

And on cue, Arteta misses the PK.

Nobody on here has ever argued that it isn't.

This match has been a perfect summation of the season thus far.

Edit: really pleased with Giroud and Walcott today. Unfortunate we couldn't capitalize on the goals scored and, ahem, opportunities given.

We are really bad, and I don't see it getting any better. We just don't have the players anymore. Giroud, Podolski, Carzola, ect. are good but they are not RVP, Cesc, Nasri, ect.

If I force myself to look at the positives, I'll say that with time as this team plays together more and more, we at least should not rely as much on one player as we have in the past. We have two players up front who can score in Giroud and Podolski, and we have two creators in midfield. Also, something that occasionally resembles a decent defense. Occasionally...yeah.

We're not as good as we have been in recent years, but with so much parody, there is no reason why we still can not grab 4th and be moderately happy about that. And then be upset about it.

With all that said, there needs to be some improvements, and soon.

i dont see the problem in our midfield or attackers. at least they are scoring goals. the defense has not been playing well. is it really that hard to defend corners ?

wonder what we are going to do on the next transfer. i heard we are looking at fellaini but i doubt we spend that kind of money.

I think the opposite. I think your defense has been one of the best in the league so far. A few key mistakes have really hurt you guys like they do all clubs but your defense was the best at not conceding for a while and the table says your 11 goals is tied for 2nd best, not bad considering you played all of the big boys except for Spurs, mostly w/o your 1st choice keeper.

I think Arsenal's problem is/was that you didn't have a legit scorer up front but Giroud seems to be hitting his stride. You just need consistency from Gervinho, Theo, & Podolski out wide. All of them have been good & horrible at times, especially Gervinho.

Talent-wise you're still looking at 4th but Wenger is a much better manager than AVB. That alone should get you 4th.

I don't think the problem is the skill of the players. I think we have a team than can compete with anyone, but we make so many stupid, terrible mistakes that wind up costing us big. If you had told me we would score 3 against Fulham, I would have predicted a win, but when we decide to do things like not mark someone on a corner, we deserve to drop points.

i know you are looking it from just the epl perspective, but our last 5 games we have given up 12 goals compared scoring 14 goals in the same stretch this is with champions league and a cup game. too many of those goals came when we were ahead.

I think getting SZCZ back in there will help. He's not world class, but he's far better than Mannone. The fact that we don't have a veteran second choice keeper is a joke.

Jenkinson has signed a new five year deal.

                          Very nice.

I don't know what you guys think but I personally think he should play ahead of Sagna. He played really well and is a pretty good crosser of the ball.

I think Sagna should be on the left until Gibbs is back, and Jenkinson should be on the right.

Yeah, I'd much rather have Sagna on the left than Vermaelen. Really though, anyone but Santos.
